For several years, Madhu's has won the Good Curry Guide's Best UK Restaurant award. It is deserved. I've been here dozens of times, have taken all my friends and family, and have never been disappointed.
It's a fancier place than most. Dimly lit, with tasteful wall mirrors. It has linen napkins, nice tables and plates and cutlery, and a good wine list. It's not cheap and quick; it's definitely upmarket Indian.
The food is exquisite. I still remember the first time we went. Even though I knew about the awards, nothing could have prepared me for the insanely delicious food I ate. My party all agreed it was the best Indian we'd ever had in the UK. Dahl, lamb, nann, pilau, fishoh god, we all ate so much. They have a lamb starter that we never fail to get.
I have to highlight the service here, too. I feel it's some of the best I've gotten in London. Very professional, but just friendly enough not to be uncomfortable and stiff.
They've got a big wine list; I tend to prefer beer with my Indian food, though.
They tend to put larger, noisier groups upstairs, keeping it more romantic downstairs.
Southall is full of amazing curry houses, but Madhu's deserves all the accolades it gets.
