Best Indian Restaurants in London | Eater London

"This smart two-floor Southall venue is all clean lines and glossy surfaces. It’s been around for four decades — opened by the then 16- and 17-year-old siblings, Sanjeev and Sanjay Anand, whose grandfather Bishan Das Anand founded the well-regarded Brilliant Hotel in Nairobi. Madhu’s was their father Jagdish Kumar’s nickname; and in the early days, their mother Krishna Kumari was the head chef. Kenyan influences abound in dishes such as yoghurt-marinated baby poussin, and tender lamb ribs laminated with chilli and lemon. Fresh coriander-flecked pakoras in fennel-flavoured yoghurt kadhi, slender aubergines on a stem with baby potatoes, and butter chicken made to an old family recipe are among the most popular dishes. Cauliflower with fenugreek leaves is as good as what might be found in a Punjabi home kitchen; and dal makhani quietly trumps flashier versions found elsewhere. Don’t miss Punjabi samosas made with beautifully flaky ‘khasta’ pastry." - Sejal Sukhadwala

Nice bright restaurant. Service was very good. Food was reasonable. The cost of bottled water was extortionate but it's like that at most restaurants wish someone would explain why so costly. A pleasant evening. Staff attentive. Pleasant local restaurant. Was not busy for a Friday. Nice experience.

Tasty food, good size portions, friendly staff, service was the best part. Anniversary ice cream cake was awesome. And to add, free parking available post 7pm. Accommodated special requests of receiving delivery of flowers. Thanks to Yatin.

We were welcomed with such good vibes from the manager who looked after us throughout our time. Our server, Priya, went above and beyond to cater to our needs and gave us the best time ever. We went on Fathers Day, and they even customised the dessert at no extra charge to have a Happy Father's Day decoration, which was amazing to see. For starters, we had Tandoori lamp chops, Hara bhara kebab, Mock chilly chicken. For main, we had Kadai paneer Mock murg makhani, Butter and Garlic Naan and Dessert we had Rasmalai. Our drinks looked awesome, and I highly recommend the Mango lassi, Virgin berry mojito, Pink guava, and Lychee colada. Overall, the food was great, and I'm definitely coming back to try more

Outstanding service from from beginning to end. Probably the best I have recieved anywhere. Very difficult to find a place that has great food and great service and this place was exceptional in both departments. Parking is tricky and you will probably end up having to park far away. Manager arshani was very polite and accommodating on our requests and dietary requirements despite initial inflexibility. Franco took care of us throughout the evening and he was friendly informative and very attentive. Everything you want and need from waiting staff. Even when he wasn't there his colleague would step in and was also great. The starts on the set menu are outstanding and the quality of some of the produce is excellent. The lamb choose are divine and prepped so well. The paneer was soft. Personally I proffered the starters over the mains. Lamb chops I'd give 9.0 out of 10. Just need to render the fat or trim little more if possible. Seekh kebabs had good flavour 8 out of 10. Chilli paneer 9 out of 10. Amazing flavours. Alloo tikki chaat had great flavour but could do with another crunch texture like onion and or sev. Salmon was cooked to perfection and lightly spiced. 9 out of 10. Chicken tikka was okay.7.5 out.of.10. The chutneys were brilliant. 10 The raita 10 for me. New concept of having carrot but worked so well. Could eat that on its own. The plain rice was amazing. Such a simple thing that was cooked to perfection. Could have happily eaten this on its own with raita. 10 ,amazing. Dhaal makhani was great 9 Paneer main again delicious .8 Chicken methi was okay. 7 Lamb curry was great. 8 Paratha and naan were great. 8 Dessert was lovely. Would give 9. Perhaps a sorbet or option of something a bit light at the end after eating such a rich feast. Appreciate the little dessert plate with happy anniversary writing. This was done without prompt. Very thoughtful and I appreciated the gesture. Overall I loved this place for the outstanding service and excellent food. I will definitely come back with friends and familly. Don't think I have ever tipped anyone so much in my life but my host deserved it. Well done guys a great evening from a well run establishment. Keep.up the great work! See you soon.

Amazing experience, office farewell party. The service was quick. Very special thank you to Franco Fernandes who was our server of the night. He knew exactly what we wanted. The food was great and all allergen and spice requests were taken care of. The cocktails were blended perfectly. An enjoyable evening. We would definitely come back again.

Absolutely superb! Best chilli paneer I have had in the UK. Nearly as good as South Indian Paneer (sorry to get political lol). Pavan is an absolute boss!

Yelp
Great restaurant and great service. We had no reservations, but they were packed..yet they took us in and opened up the upstairs seating. They had a server fully dedicated to us and I'm telling you he was awesome ..ask for Mehfil..best server. Food was super good. We were a party of 7 and must've ordered 20 items from the menu..which is reasonably priced by the way. The food was amazing and very authentic. Everything was made to order and was super hot. I have to let you know...the bread were great but the Lachcha Pronta was my favorite bread. The service was quick as well and we left fully satisfied. Drinks are also amazing ..the coconut drink is served straight in a baby coconut using the water from the coconut. Also had a Cobra Malabar Beer. kulfi dessert was excellent. If I could give this place 6 stars, I would.

Yelp
One of those unexpected spots that you don't know is going to be of such a quality when you're near an airport. The grilled section is particularly good including the prawns and the lamb chops. Can't go wrong with a biryani and a curry to finish the meal! Drinks are slightly light pours but that's very light criticism for an excellent place like this.

Yelp
Great food, great ambiance. We are from Chicago and happen to stumble into this resturant almost by accident and were truly amazed. Food was high quality and the service was very good. Bit on the pricey side in exchange of some very unique and flavorful dishes like Karela aloo, chili Paneer (Tofu), Pindi Cholla... It is also quite close to Heathrow, so if you are from out of town like us, you would enjoy some the best Indian food in London before flying out.

Yelp
One of the only REAL restaurants in the Southall area with proper waiting staff and full bar. They even have real tablecloths on the tables! Food is very good quality, it's definitely recommended and it's good to know that Madhu's also provides catering to wedding and big functions/events which I've attended over the years and everyone thoroughly raved about. The menu price is somewhat more than other restaurants in the area but not over-priced, after all, this is the only place I'd class as a real restaurant in the area. Toilets always cleans, staff very attentive and food always good, what more can you ask for?

Yelp
For several years, Madhu's has won the Good Curry Guide's Best UK Restaurant award. It is deserved. I've been here dozens of times, have taken all my friends and family, and have never been disappointed. It's a fancier place than most. Dimly lit, with tasteful wall mirrors. It has linen napkins, nice tables and plates and cutlery, and a good wine list. It's not cheap and quick; it's definitely upmarket Indian. The food is exquisite. I still remember the first time we went. Even though I knew about the awards, nothing could have prepared me for the insanely delicious food I ate. My party all agreed it was the best Indian we'd ever had in the UK. Dahl, lamb, nann, pilau, fishoh god, we all ate so much. They have a lamb starter that we never fail to get. I have to highlight the service here, too. I feel it's some of the best I've gotten in London. Very professional, but just friendly enough not to be uncomfortable and stiff. They've got a big wine list; I tend to prefer beer with my Indian food, though. They tend to put larger, noisier groups upstairs, keeping it more romantic downstairs. Southall is full of amazing curry houses, but Madhu's deserves all the accolades it gets.

Yelp
We ate here on our last evening in London or I would have been back again for sure. Without reservation, this is the best Indian food I have ever had anywhere (UK, USA, Europe). Having never been to Asia I can't say for certain if it's the best Indian food period, but I've never had anything close to this delicious. Our host the evening we had dinner here is a family friend I've known for over 30 years, born and raised outside London but a world traveler. This was Tony's pick for the best Indian in and around London, and he knows his food. Every dish we had from the lamb and chicken to the vegetarian dishes was superb; the curries were complex, warm, and delicious without being overly spicy. Also, if you've never been to this part of town, it's a real treat. I wish we had come earlier in the day to do some shopping, although I am not sure how much I could have smuggled back home in my suitcase (these days, not much gets through). This is a definite must on my list of places to return to when I come to visit friends and family. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Yelp
Madhus is my Favourite Indian Restaurant. I love it there and to the point I have a Loyalty card that gives me 20% off!!! Amazing there and this place has reliable good food. They have Tandoori Spare Ribs (LAMB) truly amazing as well as their fish dishes I love it. I do like the fact that they chill the beer in the freezer if asked. I tend to stick to there starters as I like to eat it tapas style. Ribs, Lamb Chops, Chicke, Fish and Paneer is so so good that I have to have everytime I am there. There food is Indian and Kenyan so you get all aspects of Indian catering from those that have also lived elsewhere in the world. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and for Southall prices it is pricey for London prices it is average and definetly affordable. Check it out :-)

Yelp
Came here for a family party, and we were all very impressed. The food was mostly excellent, and the staff were even obliging in sorting out food for last minute special dietary requirements. The service was perfect - polite and obliging. Particular highlights were the masala fish, the aubergines and potatoes, and the chaat. The dessert was also delicious. One small downside was that the long table was a little too small for buffet style eating.

Yelp
Dear Madhu's - I want to personally thank SahilBhai for all of his help and care. I am from the US, and I attended a wedding in London (Hilton Terminal 5 at the end of May for my friend Saumya), that was catered by Madhu's. I am still blown away by SahilBhai's amazing attention to detail and care. My husband and I are both vegan, and I also am gluten free due to Celiac's . SahilBhai ensured that my husband and I had a chance to enjoy all you delicious food at all the wedding events. He was able to help point out allergens in the ingredients for all the dishes, and he even had his chef prepare vegan gluten free (hing/asafetida-free) channa masala for us! In fact, at the reception he found and brought me vegan gluten free bread, and event gifted me the amazing coffee you use! He is incredible. I have never met such caring, attentive, compassionate, helpful leaders! Thank you so so so much for making our experience in London even better. If you are ever visiting the United States, we would love to meet you, SahilBhai. My friends who were getting married also said they loved the help of SahilBhai and Arjun! Thank you for everything, SahilBhai!

Yelp
We went back to Madhu's last Thursday with a small party - to celebrate a significant birthday. Just as good as before, if not better. The table groaned with innumerable freshly (and promptly) prepared starters, naans and rice. :D Wine and Cobra flowed. And the waiters were attentive at all times, even though the restaurant was really busy. A must try, if you haven't already! ;)

Yelp
The food here was really good and High standards. The thing that I really liked about this restraunt was the service and presentation. The only thing I would consider is the price as it was quite expensive but overall I really liked the experience that I received from this restaurant and would like to come here again. Plus the staff really nice.

Yelp
A very good meal was had by all in my party. We had a 7pm slot, so the place was empty, though filled up pretty quickly thereafter. The service is excellent. We were made to feel very welcome. They brought a jug of water and then refilled it without asking-a nice touch. The food was good, though perhaps not as mind blowing as I had hoped. The starters we had were the king prawn dish, which my son pronounced brilliant and the bel poori type starter which was brilliant and unusual in a north indian restaurant. Mains were a chicken and lamb dish. Both were good though I felt the lamb dish had too much ghee. They asked if we wanted our nan's buttered which no indian restaurant has done before. Again, a nice touch. Overall, a real gem on Southall and now they have parking at night which makes it a lot easier.

Yelp
like most other reviewers have commented this is a curry house not an Indian restaurant. In London its difficult to tell the difference - but these categories are poles apart. Curry originated in Birmingham - and Madhu's does it VERY well - but please don't call it the best Indian - this place doesn't server ANY Indian stuff :-)

Yelp
Without doubt one of the best no nonsense Curry houses in London. Food is great! The giant TV screens can be a bit annoying. Service was very good.

Yelp
In my opinion, this is the best Indian restaurant in Southall although a little pricey if you fancy loads of dishes. Go here with your partner if you fancy a special night out, or if you have a family celebration, or a business meal. There is some parking outside the front of the restaurant. It can get busy so book a table if coming especially, or from a distance, to avoid disappointment. The food is delicious; especially the starters and the breads, and the staff are extremely helpful and very smartly dressed.

Yelp
Madhu's is one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever been to. It sets itself apart from the run of the mill curry houses. The restaurant i set over two floors and is very weel decorated. The menu is extensive with great Jeera chicken and peshwari naans. Parking is a bit of a nightmare so best go there after 7.00/7.30 and check with the hostess that where you have parked is free of parking controls. Service is good but can be a bit of a hard sell sometimes depending on your waiter. I have been here a couple of times and will be coming back for more.

Yelp
Fantastic I just love the place, met my partner here so it is very special
