Madira Bar is an absolute gem in Point Breeze. The food is outstanding, with plenty of delicious vegan options to choose from. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot to relax. A special shoutout to the bartender, Lauren, who makes the experience even better with her friendly personality and top-notch service. Highly recommend!

Google
Super lowkey spot with great Indian food. Wasn’t packed and was casual vibe. Went with my mom and girlfriend we got veg samosas, garlic naan and lamb curry. Great drinks and super good game day deals for Phils and eagles drinks only $5 during phils games

Came here with my husband and a friend on a Tuesday. The ambience was pleasant. The food was tasty, and the prices were fair. I would definitely recommend.

Google
Good beer selection, food is mid. Lamb biryani was very tomatoey. Everyone was very trashed at 5pm, if that’s your vibe. Seemed understaffed at time.

Google
This place is awesome. The paneer tikka masala was delicious, and where else can you get Indian food and a flight of espresso martinis? $3 sangria during Phillies games?! Am definitely going here regularly.

Google
Good food, great prices and well designed on the inside. We stopped by for dinner on a Saturday and enjoyed everything we tried. The samosas are delicious, as well as the fries. We tried a few different chicken options and the portion sizes are great - we took home left overs when we normally don't. They have a good beer selection on tap and I was able to enjoy Downeast on tap as well. Overall great prices for everything. We only had one small hiccup - it was awkward when we arrived and didn't know how it worked (apparently you just sit down) so we weren't really greeted. From there the service was fine and prompt.

Google
I love this place and come weekly. The food and cocktails are fantastic and they have a great draft list too. Service is always great (Gia is the best!) and prices are very reasonable. So happy to have this spot back in the neighborhood, and definitely recommend! Cheesesteak, curry fries, and samosas are some of my faves.

Google
Great place with amazing cocktails. They have great Indian chai flavors martinis. A bit on sweeter side but must try. The bartenders very friendly and had a good time. Modern simple sleek interior! I think this is my new fav cocktail bar. A great addition to city specially to the area!

Yelp
I don't have enough words to describe how much I love this place. Came here specifically for the espresso martini flights and was blown away by the flavors and quality. And an added bonus the food was phenomenal! Will definitely be coming back very soon.

Yelp
Stopped by a nice neighborhood bar : Madira Bar & Grill. There were about 5 people inside upon my arrival. Our bartender/waitress was really nice and helpful. I ordered the tikka chicken roll (mild) and the Chicken Tikka Biryani (mild). The chicken Tikka Biryani still had some kick to it although it was "mild". I also ordered two cocktails. Everything was really good! I hope this place is not always slow and gets business because the food and drinks are good , the staff is awesome , and it is super cute and clean inside! Also a nice size bar area with ample seating.

Yelp
Corner Indian restaurant with a long bar and lots of TV screens. Chill place to have dinner, drinks, and watch hockey. I ordered the Baingan Bharta, which is a vegan eggplant dish. You can customize the spice level, medium was spicy but not uncomfortable. It's the best Indian eggplant I've ever had, spiced and smoky and gingery. We also tried the cheese naan and chicken samosas which were excellent. My partner enjoyed his goat curry as well. Service was good as it wasn't too busy but we did have to wait 30 min for our food. Would return for sure. Underrated and deserves more than 4.2 stars! - Pay in cash to save 4% - The kitchen may close earlier depending on the pace so call ahead

Yelp
I wanted to keep this place a secret because of how great of an experience I had here. I came here on a Tuesday and it was quiet. Angel, our server, was extremely kind and attentive. The couple of appetizers we had were fantastic. I can't wait to return and try more of their food. The drinks were great too! Angel so awesome, we closed the bar down with her! Glad I found this place so close to home.

Yelp
Delicious food, great cocktails, awesome specialty beers that are tough to find which was pretty cool. Bartenders super friendly and welcoming. Decor was beautiful. Overall great experience.

Yelp
I've been to this restaurant twice and had strange and disappointing experiences both times. Adequate food but truly some of the worst cocktails I've ever had. Watery and weak. The service is stilted and feels untrained.

Yelp
Just returned from dinner at the newly reopened Madira Bar. I didn't live in the neighborhood during their original run, so I can't compare my experience to those days. That said, given how highly the Point Breeze Facebook group spoke of the bar's former years, I knew I had to check out Madira. I believe today was their first full day of being reopened, so they're still figuring things out, but our drinks and meal did not disappoint. My wife and I opted to share a few things, which included the Masala Fries, Tandoori Wings, Chana Amritsari, and Cheese Naan. Everything was excellent; the fries were super crispy and well seasoned, the wings were big, juicy and also well seasoned, the chana was absolutely delicious, and the cheese naan was hot, slightly crispy and perfectly cheesy. The staff and owner all made time to introduce themselves and were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. All of that, coupled with over 20 beers on tap, makes Madira a new go to spot for us. I was excited to hear about an Indian bar opening a short walk from me, that concept alone is a bit unique, but the excitement this neighborhood has shown the reopening of Madira makes me so happy. As we were leaving, another couple saw us exit the building and excitedly asked if Madira had reopened, they seemed so happy to hear that it had. The excitement Madira inspires speaks volumes. Personally, I'm excited to return and try more of the menu and their cocktails.

Yelp
Hidden gem! Service, food, drinks and ambience were all on point. Forgot to take pictures of food but everything was so good! Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Fantastic Indian food, really really good, some of the best I've ever had. The beer list is impressive, too, 24 beers on tap. The happy hour is great, and big giant TVs for watching the game. Really lucky to have this spot in our neighborhood. 4 stars because service here leaves something to be desired, hopefully they find a great bartender soon.

James G.

Yelp
Cozy date night spot with great cocktails. Friendly bartenders, which is getting harder to find nowadays in the city. I wasn't expecting much from the Indian food given that it seemed more like a bar with some snacks but the food was very very good.

Yelp
We've been to Madira a handful of times. Pretty chill spot, good draft selection. The food though! My husband is Indian, so he has high standards. We've ordered the lamb curry and chicken saag (spinach) so far, and both were delicious - seriously some of the best Indian food we've had in Philly. The masala fries are amazing too- so crispy, great spice mix, borderline addictive.

Yelp
Tasty and authentic Indian food, a super welcome change from your usual pub fare. The beer list is expansive and diverse especially for a neighborhood bar in a residential area. I am super excited that Madira is a short walk away for me and am looking forward to being a regular here!

Tara S.

Yelp
Amazing service and food. The drink menu has something for everyone, with fresh twists on classic cocktails and inspired by the flavors of their Indian food. It rotates by season or holidays so there is always something new to try!

Robert M.

Yelp
Somewhat excited about a "corner bar" restaurant that serves Indian food - not at a buffet - with a full, well-lit display of liquor and about 20 taps of draft beers. Unfortunately, I cannot give it more than one star due to the incredibly bad service. Arrived to a mostly full bar, but only two tables seated (out of about 10), and grabbed a seat at the bar. It was not crowded at all. Two servers, one bartender, or so it seemed. After about a 10-minute wait, a server finally asked me if I had been helped yet. I ordered a martini - nothing special right? After about another 5 minutes, the bottle of gin was finally removed from the shelf and placed on the bar. Meanwhile, the bartender was obviously looking up drink recipes on his phone. The guys next to me mentioned that their food order was very slow as well - I was intending to order some samosa and a biryani. After another 5 minuets of the bartender trying to figure out how to switch the cable channels - a request made by a couple after I had ordered my drink, I signaled to the server at the other end of the bar with a signal slitting my throat to cancel my drink - nothing had yet been poured into a shaker. I left , walked a few blocks, and had a martini within 2 minutes of sitting down at Grace Tavern.

Yelp
Unreal bar selected. Probably 30 beers on draft when we went in. The Somosas were great and music selection was 2007 throwbacks. We will be back!
google avatar

Jessi M.

Yelp
We have been waiting for Madira to reopen and we re thrilled it did!! The food, ambiance, and service is great. The tap list takes the award though!

Kerry S.

Yelp
I came to watch the Sixers game, and it was 80-plus degrees in the bar. When I asked the bartender about the AC, I was told the owner would not let them turn it on. For context, it is 83 degrees in Philly right now. I felt horrible for the staff working in these conditions.

Yelp
This is a good Indian restaurant! The chicken tikka masala was delicious. I look forward to trying more of their dishes. Great draft beer selection. Nice bartender, staff, setting. Definitely recommend!

Christian L.

Yelp
food is tasty service is good the staff is friendly, thank you Patrick and Elise last but not least, the restaurant has brand new fixtures, clean bathrooms, a sweet bar with electrical outlets and exposed brick walls make it a nice place to chill

Yelp
Updated review because this has become a regular spot for me and my husband. The beer selection is ridiculous. There really is nothing you can't find here. We love the mix-and-match sixpacks it's always fun to try something new without committing to buying six of them. The food is so good and such an interesting twist of flavors. Last night we went for the anniversary menu. It was just awesome. I got the sirloin kebob. It was a great combination of fresh and healthy with perfectly cooked steak. The flat bread is crazy good. My husband got the grilled cheese, which he gets almost every time because that pretzel bread is to die for. Always a friendly crowd. The pizza boy honey crisp was one of the best beers I've tasted on tap. However, they should've warned me it was 13% alcohol. Yikes. Good thing it was only a short walk home. I hope this place does well. It's a great gem in Point Breeze.

Yelp
Update: They changed their food menu. Is it nowhere near as good. The previous menu had awesome and unique bar food, like a tikka masala cheesesteak and a kabob sandwich. Now, the menu has mediocre wanna-be fancy options like strange spareribs and a weird take on a tikka masala entree. It is not an fitting menu for the place, and frankly not as tasty as the previous menu options. Very depressing. I strongly encourage them to bring back the old menu.

Yelp
Before moving to the neighborhood a coworker asked me to try this bar. She called it a "gem". I was reluctant on just parking near it. Walking up I had suspicions that my friend was leading me astray. The look outside reminded me very much of something familiar. The "el bar". What we got was something so much more. Let me say, the beer selection!! Sweet Jesus the beer. One of the better bottle selections in the city. And the tap list. I love it. Perfectly seasonal. Not 15 taps with 10 IPAs on. The food had me intrigued. I wasn't sure at first. I got the Mama's little Brussels burger. It's one of my new favorites. Although the patty had to be cooked well done due to the sausage blend, I finished it with more that satisfaction. It fulfilled a craving. It was what I wanted. A burger with sprouts on it! Didn't even know it was there. She was right. This is a gem. More people should know about this.

Yelp
2nd time I've been in this place. The first time was pretty okay, and didn't really warrant a comment, one way or the other. Tonight though... Come in shortly after 1am on my way home. There were plenty of people at the bar, but a few open seats at the far end. I took a seat and the bartender came over to me in a reasonable amount of time. I ordered a drink and he brought it. So far, so good. But as I neared the bottom of the glass and decided I'd like another, the bartender, without coming over to check on anyone at my side of the bar, leaves for a 20 minute smoke break. While I was bored and getting thirstier, I looked around and noticed that a guy I know had come in. I went over to say hi to him and he asked me how I was. I replied, "I'd be better if this place had a fuckin' bartender." and he said, "I know, right?!?" as he held up his empty glass. When the bartender finally came back in, the first patron he served ordered a shot. The bottle ran out near the end of the shot glass and the patron joked "Where's the rest of my shot?" and the bartender replied "It's in the tip of my penis, wanna suck it out?" and it was around this point that I realized that he was aggressively drunk while on duty. He went to fill the shot with a fresh bottle and ended up dumping about another shot's worth on the bar. Then, without even acknowledging anyone else at the bar, left to go to the front counter to ring up some random people buying take-out. By the time he got what I ordered, he also hands me the check, without asking if I was done or if I wanted a backup or anything, despite the fact that the reason I wasn't done yet was due to his 20 minutes of screwing around outside. This place is a last resort. If you can make it anywhere else, do it. The crowd has been pretty cool both times that I've been here, but not cool enough to make up for the shit service and drunk-ass bartender.

Yelp
Saturday night, 9:30pm, it's dark and there's a handwritten sign on the door that says CLOSED, with no further information. Looks like the bar is cleared out. My conclusion: It is no longer.

Yelp
We live further south in Point Breeze, but finally checked out Madira as part of a Fishtown Beer Runners Thursday night run, and I'm so glad we did! It was clear that the big group of runners represented more people than they typically serve on a Thursday night, but the staff handled it well: everyone was friendly and helpful. The front part when you enter is a bottle shop, which has a solid selection and competitive prices. You then walk into the downstairs bar area with one or two tables and way more taps than I expected! The tap selection is huge (17, I think?), varied, and quality. Cider, IPA, sour, you got it. The upstairs is more charming than down, with wood floors, a smaller bar, plenty of tables, and windows to let light in. I don't think it's open all the time, but if it is when you're there, check it out. We also had a chance to try the food, and I have to say that I LOVE this take on Indian bar food. I had the samosa chaat, which I could probably eat every day, while my boyfriend had a vegetarian sandwich, served on what I think was a Sarcone's roll. Fries were $1.50 extra, and delicious as well. I can't wait to try more menu items. In conclusion, do yourself a favor and check this place out! Bonus: if you're not in the 'hood, there are 2 bike racks and 2 parking signs out front for your locking convenience.

Yelp
Madira's has recently undergone a transformation which means no more scary bullet-hole glass patrician thingy! Not only does the place look more enticing, they opened up the bottle shop so that you can walk straight through to the bar. They have lots of beers on draft and many more in bottles, so the selection is the best in the area. There's a fully stocked bar, so if beer is not your thing, no biggie. Happy hour is M-F from 5-7 and there's $2 off draft beers. I also noticed signs boasting specials during Phillies games. For the food, think Indian meets American bar food. A must-have are the curry fries - whoever thought of this idea is genius. My husband and I had the Latona sandwich, which is chicken, pickled onions and cheese. It hit the spot as far as bar food is concerned. For "dessert" you really can't go wrong with an adult root beer float. Staff is friendly and rumor is they are opening an upstairs which will boast a deck. Will definitely return!

Yelp
We love love this place. Rob is an amazing bartender. The owner is excellent. Beer selection is untouchable. Divey and fun as hell!!

Yelp
I stopped in Madira for the first time the night of Buckminster's opening. Seems like Madira got a lot of over-spillage from that and they weren't equipped whatsoever to have a full house that night. With one bartender and what seemed like one cook, the service was overwhelmed and slow. Regardless, the place itself needs some major investment. Poorly painted walls, and stacks of dirty dishes behind the bar don't add any charm. They do have a large selection of take-out beer, which seems to be the only thing this place has going for it. For food, I had a tandoor cheesesteak. It's definitely unique to this place and had an interesting flavor. It also came with fries, which seemed to be of the frozen/pre-cut/quickly fried variety.
google avatar

Matthew C.

Yelp
Great atmosphere to hang out and drink craft beer. You want it they have it. Prices are good. The chef came out and actually asked us if everything was ok. The grilled cheese on a pretzel roll was awesome.

Cameron P.

Yelp
This was tough as I was really excited to check this place out and try some of the menu items that others rave about. No such luck. The menu has been changed dramatically recently. It is now much, much smaller and all the favorites are now gone. Pretty disappointing. On a separate note, Stuart, the bartender was great, informative, personable and engaging. The draft list was strong and the bottle shop is fantastic and offers great prices. I was informed that the bottle shop is going away as they are expanding the bar. They are also building a roof deck. Not sure what timeline they are on for these renovations. Kinda bummed. Was really looking forward to loving this place. Hopefully they will revisit the menu issues.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
Madira would've gotten a higher rating a few months ago when the bottle shop prices were the best in the area. Now, they're actually on par with or more expensive than most the the Center City shops, though the selection is still excellent. Food is interesting and delicious. The pickled veggies platter is a good appetizer and the curry fries are dangerously delicious. The Chicken Tikka cheesesteak is also good, albeit a bit overpriced for what you get. Draft beer selection and quality are superb and the $2 off happy hour makes it much more affordable. Protip: be careful with the prices. I got overcharged on one item and when I asked about it the guy behind the bar claimed it was including tax. When I pointed out that food and beer tax is listed separately, he mumbled something and went away without doing anything. Next time I came, I made sure to point out the price listed on the menu. Note that certain choices for sides are also often a significant amount extra, but that's not made clear on the menu or when ordering. I'll be back for happy hour, but will be keeping a close eye on my tab.

Yelp
For a low key bar in the neighborhood, this place is great! They offer a unique Indian bar fusion cuisine which is so tasty and super cheap. Their fries are so good, definitely try the varieties. Their changing menu keeps it interesting, but they never disappoint! The chicken tikka masala cheesesteak is so funky and delicious - would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Maggie M.

Yelp
Awesome beer selection, unique (and delicious) Indian-inspired bar food. Location may throw you off, but the staff (shout out to Rob, the most personable bartender) and patrons rock.
google avatar

Charles D.

Yelp
A wonderful little beer and bottle bar in the heart of Point Breeze. There's always an excellent selection of beer on tap, lots more to choose from in bottles, and great eats to be had here. The Chicken Tikka cheese steak is outrageously good. Avoid the "lethal" wings if you actually value your taste buds
google avatar

Kayla G.

Yelp
I was so pleasantly surprised by how amazing the food is here! I have stopped by a few times for a drink because it's close to my house but never eaten here. My boyfriend and I had the most amazing dinner with eclectic food from all over. The chef sent out boiled peanuts on the house to start which I had never had before. So yummy! We ordered the Shepard pie samosas, short ribs, chicken tikka masala, and curry naan. We were beyond impressed with every dish. Madira is a destination for any non local of Point breeze for food from all over the world. I might come back a couple times a week
google avatar

Kim W.

Yelp
I like this place a lot, prices are fair and the food is always good. Definitely a locals bar, great draft list. Also the take out beer selection is awesome and they do 10% off mix six packs. If your in the area and want a few beers and good bar food, I'd definitely recommend it.
google avatar

Anthony M.

Yelp
Bartenders are awesome. Beer selection is awesome. Punk, metal, and hip-hop selection on the jukebox is awesome.

Jack D.

Yelp
Again this has been a tough call for me too as I loved the former menu. Adored the chicken kebab and was so excited to get another quesdira, their version of a quesadilla with naan, but visited this place over the weekend and was heartbroken. They gutted the menu to basic food, nothing spectacular and the item I did have had a weird chemical taste to it. I was raving about this place to my girlfriend and they even had so little vegetarian options we just decided to go somewhere else to eat. I'll be checking back in a month so hopefully they cleared up this issue.
google avatar

Eric M.

Yelp
The variety of the take out beer selection is incredible. I've never seen so many interesting beers in my life and you can mix and match! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and helpful in making selections. I haven't tried the food yet but I am looking forward to it.

Yelp
Admittedly came in here after Burg's was slammed packed on a thursday evening. It was a small group of us after a softball game and it was definitely our casual laid back scene that we were looking for. The front of the bar, was lined with different craft beers on the shelf and in a fridge to grab and go or mix and match. We sat down next to the bar and were promptly served. The bartender was very accommodating and went through the menu and drink specials with us. They had an array of amazing craft beers to the regular man's selection to a solid citywide (6$ Goose Is. 312 with Heaven Hill). The main menu featured a spin on Indian food with solid naan and chicken tikka masla. A slow burn with a heavy chickpea load. I have never tasted a more unique tikka dish. The pork Banh Mi was also very solid. Overall, I will be back to snag some beers to go and have a couple beers and chill to watch some sports.
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
Had a pretty weird experience here with some local off duty cops the first time I went, but I have gone several times since and really like this place. The owner is great and very pleasant to talk to and clearly excited about opening up a new restaurant/bar for the area. Decent selection of drafts and there is a bottle shop attached to the store. When I went last Friday they had a 10% special for mix a sixes. I really like the food here too. The samosas are awesome (both veggie and chicken, I preferred the veggie). Wings are big and meaty and have a crisp fry on the outside. I preferred the masala wings to the hot wings, but bother were good.Dollar off drafts during happy hour. Cool place, and it will get even cooler once the open the upstairs and the rumored outdoor seating area. Would recommend.
google avatar

Chelsey M.

Yelp
This bar is great! I live right around the corner and plan on visiting again. They have really good drink specials. I ordered the fries and samosas and both tasted good. I definitely recommend checking this place out if you're in the hood!
google avatar

Rose F.

Yelp
Don't let this hole in the wall style bar fool you. The beer selection and food are actually pretty good. I especially like the Indian flair that is added to more traditional dishes. For example: the I a tikka chicken cheesesteak that is a clash of American and Indian food in all the right ways.
google avatar

Sid S.

Yelp
Go here for delicious craft beer and Indian inspired bar food. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable. They also have an upstairs space that can be used for private parties!

Robert A.

Yelp
Madira's is the shining gem of Point Breeze! This bottle shop + bar combo has one of the greatest beer lists I've seen on this side of Broad Street with 18 TAPS! The prices were excellent: a PINT of Southern Tier's Pumpking for $7! I cannot talk up the beer and liquor selection enough, not to mention the food. Classics like cheesesteaks and wings grace the menu along with some Indian favorites. (The samosas and smoked cheddar saison fries were to die for!) This is definitely my new go-to spot! In addition, the Wednesday night bartender has an amazing coat.

Dan G.

Yelp
This place used to be great and now it is just absolutely terrible. We have been coming here for years and, while service has always been slow, there was always enough charm to keep us coming back. Tonight was the last straw, we went in to a packed bar with an obviously overwhelmed bartender, took nearly 15 minutes to place our order. Since it was packed we ordered our food to go. The menu has always changed, but as it stands this is a ridiculous ripoff. I got the chicken tikka for $10, which is a single skewer of chicken, with chickpeas in what tastes like thin campbells tomato soup - no spice, no body, and came with nothing - no naan, no rice. A friend got samosas - served dry, with no chutney. When I called to complain, the bartender put me on with someone who said his whole point of putting that dish on the menu was to make people buy a naan for an extra $3 (which is in no way how the menu read to me). For that price you can get MUCH better food in so many other places in philly and even in point breeze. They have a decent beer selection and prices that are fair - not astronomical but by no means cheap. The food has always changed but it used to be that you could find something good on it at a fair price - and that was actually spiced! This new menu is watered down, more expensive, and you get far less for it. I used to absolutely love this place and have to say after tonight's experience with the crappy decor, ages to wait for service, and gross, bland food, we won't be back.

Yelp
Refreshing remix to the sardine bar. This spot fewtures several hoppy beers and seasonal treats. Make your own six pack or get a tasty Indian cheeasesteak - yes- tikka masala cheesesteaks, samosas, wings etc. Its all so good. Awesome staff too.

Yelp
Madiras has a dive bar atmosphere especially as they continue to renovate. However, the food is good, the beer selection is great and the owner is very friendly. Hopefully they can stay afloat and last. They also have a great take out beer selection as well

Joe C.

Yelp
This was my first time at Madira's and it will not be my last. Went upstairs to the dining area and ran into a very lively and welcoming crowd at the bar. I opted for the Chicken Kabob and with my first bite it was like a party in my mouth and everyone was invited. . . and I am not talking about the normal crowd, this was the beautiful people kind of party. Even after a couple drinks and the food the bill was not bad at all. I will certainly be back to try some of the curry that everyone was saying is incredible.
