The Seattle Gay Bar Guide - Seattle - The Infatuation

"There’s only one LGBTQ+ bar in Seattle that has nacho cheese on tap, and that’s Madison Pub. Big ups for liquid cheese accessibility, but it’s also worth noting that the huge space has a pool table, lots of TVs, retired piñatas dangling from the ceiling, and pinball. Come for televised sports, beers, and an eternal lack of cover for any event." - aimee rizzo

Stopped by here on my vacation before heading out to meet a friend and I think I made the mistake of stopping by mid day on a week day. The bar was decently empty and the crowd seemed a little older (I'm in my mid 20's), I asked the bartender if they had a menu or something and he reminded me that this is a gay sports bar not a restaurant... Not particularly offensive but I was just curious if there were any specials or specialty drinks lol. Prices were not bad and there seemed to be a nice selection. Overall would love to stop by again and try for a better experience, it seems like a fun place to hangout.

Google
I had an incredibly disappointing experience here. The manager was extremely rude and lacked any sense of customer service — it honestly ruined the night. The prices are steep for what you get, and while the younger bartenders were kind and attentive, the two older gentlemen behind the bar were just as unpleasant as the manager. Their attitude made the whole place feel unwelcoming. Definitely not coming back, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone expecting respectful service.

Google
The Madison was a lucky find for our party of 8, on my youngest son's 21st birthday. We all had a blast and stayed for 3 or 4 hours. Shout out to Todd and the young kid behind the bar who made up drinks for us to test-drive, served bags of chips and treated all my kids and their entourage like old friends. Such a terrific atmosphere. We left at closing and everyone was sure happy with the good fortune we had in finding the Madison. A very cool place with great hosts.

Google
I was having a rough night. Unprompted and without me saying a word, both the patrons and bartenders treated me with the utmost kindness and welcomed me with (literal) open arms. Places like this are a reminder of the power and impact of our community. Places like this are a light in the dark of this life. Through even the “smallest” of gestures I was reminded that we can evolved into good things and that hope exists in random places - that night it was this pub.

went here with my 80 year old grandmother. her ID was a month expired and they wouldn’t serve her. she sadly died the next day. all she wanted was a rum and coke. Fly high granny. 🪽

update: 4/26/25: unfortunately the bartender Tony is not very nice. he will not allow people to have more than one drinks (ie. shot and a beer) even if you are grabbing a drink for a friend who has been checked by the bouncer. i have never been to a bar where they refuse the sale of additional alcohol - this is wild to me. he is NOT nice and does not make this feel like a safe space. i will not be back anytime soon. i love this space and it’s a regular part of my rotation of queer spaces!! however, the older bar tender (hat, glasses) is always incredibly rude to me and my friends…like, really rude. i guess not everyone is meant for customer service… good luck with your tips!

Even though it was jam packed for Pride; Mad Pud is always a wonderful time. A gem of a gay bar.

Google
GREAT SPORTS BAR WITH FRIENDLY CROWD AND BARTENDERS . POOL, DART AND PINBALL GAMES . NICE BAR SEATING

Yelp
Happy Holidays, Thank You and Your wonderful staff for making me feel welcome. I always have a wonderful time when drinking in your Bar.
google avatar

Yelp
A long time favorite bar of mine in Capitol Hill. The gay sports bar is a nice change from dimly lit spaces around the area. Food options have become more limited in the past years, so eat before you come.

Brent M.

Yelp
The bartenders are always pissed off...and share it with the clientelle. Quit your job if you don't like working in the service industry....
google avatar

Preston E.

Yelp
Nice people and good friends I love it here playing pool with my friends and new friends to and I like coming every Sunday because it's free pool every Sunday
google avatar

Yelp
I wondered in and was so pleasantly surprised to meet a great bartender and free Ms Pac-Man I will definitely go back when I have more time
google avatar

Tim W.

Yelp
Felt welcomed as hell!! Not from Seattle, this is the neighborhood bar...a good chill, moment with square footage.
google avatar

Sean B.

Yelp
I visited Seattle to see someone special, who really liked Madison Pub and suggested we pop in. I really liked the vibe, honestly reminded me of a (gay version of) my parents' bar back in Pennsylvania... the pinball machines, beer signs everywhere, pool table. It was familiar and new, and the bartenders were playful and friendly. Enjoyed it enough that we went back, like, four times in a long weekend. Definitely would return. Just friendly and laid-back. Kind of wish my hometown (LA) had a place with this energy.
google avatar

Yelp
Madison Pub is excellent, big, music, social, easy to approach bartenders who are gay and fast and responsive. Jeremy at the bar is a sexy sweetheart. Highly recommend Stumbled on here after HORRIBLE customer service at Pony. Just Saying #mascarafacedrawinggirlisbasicanfbeyondawful

Kat S.

Yelp
Horrible place refused us service because I have a properly marked legitimate SERVICE DOG.
google avatar

Melissa T.

Yelp
This was a great sports bar! My friend chose it, I have no interest in sports. They had raffles and free corn dogs! Super nice service, fun vibes, easy going service, clean bathrooms!

Edgar R.

Yelp
It's a great place to come, the vibes are just chill and fun. Older Gay crowd. I love that. The only bad part is the only Black Bartender he is just not so nice. He is so extra by acting so tuff. Sir sit down! He can be rude at times. I experience this with some friends. Not personally but with other people.
google avatar

Mark S.

Yelp
Only my second night here, yet it feels like home. Great staff fantastic beer selection, a margarita better than none
google avatar

Nick C.

Yelp
This place is okay. Not the best or most fun gay bar in Seattle. There's a big crowd, but it seems very clicky.
google avatar

Matthew P.

Yelp
All the bartenders are complete gems, the pours are strong, and the establishment supports local gay sports teams. All around amazing place. Really appreciate this community staple
google avatar

Willie S.

Yelp
MadPub is one of my faves. Never any drama never anyone pretentious always a good time. Pool tables, dartboards, pulltabs. The same bartenders have been there for 1 million years and they are all super nice and pour great drinks. It's super chill different ages different sizes different races and everyone is treated great. I have been there on several occasions with female friends and there's never been an issue. If you like a no fuss sports bar, and aren't looking for the stand and model queens you find at some of the other spots on hill, this is the bar for you. I gave it four stars because I can't take my dog with me, lol. Otherwise it would be five.
google avatar

Kenmar B.

Yelp
Long wait for bartender who was more in tune with a group of friends seated near the bar. It was my privilege that he chose to finally help me. Unfriendly vibe, my 2nd drink was warm but I couldn't locate bartender as was in a hurry for a wedding.

Christopher W.

Yelp
The bartender was being racist towards my friend who is POC. The bartender kicked him out when he went up to order his first drinks of the night. When my friend asked why he was kicked out and all the bartender said was that he is annoying. No one else in our group had issues. This behavior should not be tolerated.

Julie N.

Yelp
Worst bartender. He was so rude for no apparent reason. The bar was not busy but he decided to treat me as if I was less than him. I will not be back.
google avatar

Jacob D.

Yelp
After a not so happy "happy hour" at the Cuff we patronized this bar. 7.00/cocktail but they weren't advertising it was happy hour either. Bartender was super friendly and it was much more low key than the Cuff.

Susan S.

Yelp
Mean bartender right when you walk in to the left (by the pull tabs). He clearly didn't like women in the bar. I mean, my friends and I are L in the LGBT but he was just rude and snarled at us. He was an older man, scowling face paid attention to the boys and laughed and smiled with them, but not so much me or my group. That's ok. Our money is good and there are other bars we can go to that will be welcoming. Not going back to Madison Pub. Ever.
google avatar

Kev H.

Yelp
We went to this bar around 5:30 pm ish, so as expected, it wasn't too crowded. My friends and I got to just sit down and enjoy our drinks and complementary peanuts. The music was just at the right level of loudness creating a nice relaxing atmosphere. There was also a jukebox so you could choose your own songs. The bartender was super nice and friendly. I'm not a big fan of bars, so I don't really know much about good bars versus bad ones, but I enjoyed this place.
google avatar

Teresa L.

Yelp
Doesn't allow dogs. Common. You're in Seattle... you need to accept dogs they said they would play the game I wanted to watch but this honestly drew the line because it's me and my dog or nothing

Keith B.

Yelp
I like the Madison Pub. In fact, I wish we had something similar in San Francisco or Oakland. First of all, it's pretty large and super chill. Music/noise isn't too loud, there is a pool table (or two), and lots of places to sit and enjoy your drink. It's a neighborhood-y place. I enjoyed my visit!

Yelp
I write this review with a heavy heart. I'm relatively new to the Capitol Hill area. I've lived in the Puget Sound area my entire life. This is about a sports bar on Capitol Hill the Madison pub. It's a gay bar that has sports on TV screens. It is not a sports bar. I gave it a chance I held out hope but the final nail has been put into the coffin. I want to watch the Mariners game tonight. Well they were showing it on a few of the screens there was no sound. No one was watching. I could go to any bar except on Capitol Hill and I tried a whole bunch of them and have the room transfixed by the Mariners. Am I asking too much of a gay bar in Seattle? This whole thing about gays not being sports fans makes you crazy.
google avatar

Nathan M.

Yelp
I had a horrible experience here. I entered the private restroom while the door was open, only to have a bartender key open the door and tell me to "get the fuck out." He pointed at a small sign on the door and said "Don't you see? It says 'Ask a bartender for key.'" I replied by asking for the key. He cut me off and told me to leave, informing me he just "chewed out" someone before me for coming in without a key. I don't know how that was relevant to me. He then kicked out my party and that of the other person. It really seems like this person was power-tripping over a misunderstanding, and discriminating against customers for ... I'm not sure, desiring a little privacy? I really hope this bar has better training for its staff, especially for long-time customers, or it will lose them quickly.
google avatar

Joey H.

Yelp
Good drinks. Friendly staff. Lots of televisions for game tune-in. Diligently checking vaccine cards at the door.

Yelp
My main objective in Seattle was to see the Dodgers beat the Mariners. I had awesome tickets for Sunday's game and arrived the evening before, a night before my friends from Portland made it up. My AirB&B was in Capitol Hill and instead of spending too much money on a solo ticket, I had decided to put on my Dodger gear and spend too much on beer at a bar instead. It was awesome going to a gay bar actually showing the game. Dodgers lost but I had so much watching there and really enjoyed meeting some awesome guys too. One of them was even cute! An amazing drag queen even bought me a shot of tequila. Madison Pub is one of the chillest and friendliest bars I've ever had the pleasure of getting too drunk at. Will definitely make it a point to get back.
google avatar

Yelp
Last night I was there pumping money into the touch tunes jukebox, buying drinks, playing pool, and having a great time. I played a song by Marilyn Manson which was quickly skipped by one of the bartenders. Having paid for the song, and being a bit annoyed I walked over and asked why it was skipped and expressed my feelings that it was a douchey move, being that I paid for the song. This bartender then told me that "this isn't that kind of bar" and that he "would have refunded the song play if I didn't call it a douchey move". I won't go back. It's completely asinine that I spend my money only to have someone arbitrarily decide that my choice in music was inappropriate for the setting. "Fuck the pain away" by Peaches was completely acceptable and wasn't skipped but a song by Marilyn Manson "This is the New Shit" wasn't okay for Mad Pub? If you don't want your patrons to play music that they want to hear, don't put a touch tunes jukebox in the establishment.

Yelp
One of the few gay bars left in Seattle. Untouched by the mixed use commercial building transformation that is hitting Seattle. I really enjoy this bar. It is a sports bar that's considered like a neighborhood bar. The drinks are strong. "gay drink" strong. Always doubled always good. I couldn't even imagine what a double would be. Lol. Its interior is wood and filled with TVs and pinball machines, pool tables and darts. Pull tabs are played here and its always a pleasure seeing pull tabs and peanut shells thrown all over the ground. Great music, all types of people. It's not trendy or filled with pretentious people. It's not fetish laden or unwelcoming. There's never a cover charge. The service is always great. The bartenders all are nice and knows you by name. There's even a mister outside for hot days. I really enjoy coming here, specifically Sundays for darts! I sound like a alcoholic but really... Its a great bar!

Yelp
I love love LOVE coming to this bar whether it's for a football game on TV, a pool game with friends, or just hanging out on the weekends. My partner and I have been going to Mad Pub for nearly every Seahawks game from 2013 - 2015. We moved overseas for a few years but came back to Seattle last year and it felt like home again watching the games at Mad Pub. The service here is amazing. The bartenders and servers(?) are so friendly and always make you feel remembered / special. They host the BEST Seahawks games filled with FREE food ranging from popcorn, peanuts, nachos, corn dogs, steak sandwiches, sweet tea, and even cake! They give out lots of free tickets for raffles throughout the game and people can win t-shirts, hats, mugs, etc. I still remember when we won the Super Bowl, they literally filled the ceiling with balloons and released them in celebration. For each touchdown, they have a birthday bingo ball drawing which there are also prizes.. I think there is some sort of large jackpot cash prize that someone can win each season or something. It's a very friendly crowd. Every time we go, I can count on chatting with someone new and even making a friend or two. It's like gay Cheers... although everybody may not know your name, you still just feel included and comfortable even among strangers.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar with tons of friendly people. The staff was friendly and cool and the patrons were incredible. Pros: Drinks are cheap, bartenders are very attentive, the bar is large and roomy, the music was at the perfect volume where you can carry conversations with others Cons: None to think of

Yelp
Seattle LGBTQ sports bar. Great place to watch sports and not have to deal with toxic masculinity. Friendly staff, pool tables, darts and pinball machines.

Spike J.

Yelp
Rude bartender almost ruined the evening for us on Saturday evening, 10/22/22. A group of us was visiting from out of town and we walked in and put in our drink order with the bartender at the bar immediately to the left when you walk in - he's an older guy, maybe in his 60s? Anyway, we were polite, we hadn't had anything to drink yet as we were starting out the night and we were surprised at the bartender's response to us. He snarled at us, had a scowl on his face and had such a negative attitude about him that we didn't stay too long. I mean, I thought that Madison Pub was supposed to be about low attitude and everyone is welcome, right? I guess the uglier the staff, the more attitude they have in Seattle...no worries! My group and I moved over to Diesel where we got treated right and we stayed there all night - they got a HUGE tab out of us and we tipped generously in appreciation for their hosting a fantastic evening for us - now THAT is an awesome bartending crew there! Go to Diesel!

Yelp
So we here for my 21st birthday since my bf likes this place. It looks really bad and run-down on the outside and its near chop-suey which is always where people are getting arrested but I trusted him. It's not very big but it's definitely laid back and since it seems to mostly be frequented by an older group of gay guys I didn't worry about getting bothered. It was definitely a good place to just relax and hang out with friends and I'd recommend anyone going there.

H H.

Yelp
One of the best bars I've ever been to, they were so accommodating. I turned 22 today and they treated me like a QUEEN! I have had a horrible day and they were so kind. Please go to this bar! They care about their customers!
google avatar

Ryan N.

Yelp
I love playing darts here. They leave all the darts out in a beer pitcher with a separate cup full of extra tips. They also provide unlimited peanuts in their shell out which makes for a great snack and they still manage to keep the bar very clean. Bartenders are nice and prices are reasonable too.
google avatar

Robert C.

Yelp
What a great space! Lots of room to sit, mingle, play pool or darts. Friendliest bartenders that we found in Seattle.
google avatar

Kevin E.

Yelp
I come here way too often to play pool with friends. The crowd is fairly nice and pleasant most of the time. It's tucked away off Madison in a pale tan building, so you wouldn't really notice it if you were just walking or driving along the street. The good: - beer is cheap, mixed drinks are strong - staff is friendly and awesome - no cover! - pool felt & house cues are in decent shape - the crowd is generally pretty friendly - usually has football or soccer on the TVs - lots of stuff to do (pinball, free ms. pacman, golden tee, two pool tables, tv, chatting) - has a happy hour The bad: - gets really crowded on the weekends (like all bars in the area); sometimes has a line - they don't take American Express cards - the bathroom sometimes smells - apparently the food is bad, although I've never eaten it myself
google avatar

Yelp
This is a nice dive bar! It is very close to my apartment, only few minutes away. Awesome staff and friendly service!!!

Yelp
When I first start visiting Washington... and specifically Seattle - the choice of the gay bars are increasingly slim. You have Capitol Hill, but it felt like gay people didn't have a place to chill out. I'm sure they had places to hook-up, but where do gay people and theri friends chill out? Madison Pub. It's a great place, the scene gets interesting at times because Seattle gays aren't easily as typecasted as San Francisco gays. And I am not really into typecasting, but you can't really tell sometimes. Different shapes, haircuts and all that jazz. The drinks are lovely, they are strongest drinks I have had in Washington. And you can trust me on that, because my liver as of now... is still made of steel. And it's been through a lot. It wasn't until I got the stink-eye from a Seattle queen, my inner San Francisco diva (is a female version of a hustler, said Beyonce) felt right at home...
google avatar

Juan M.

Yelp
This is my seattle gay bar of choice - and I usually don't choose gay bars! Being a gay - I have to support our community - which I do willingly - I just dont have that many gay friends. I am not gay, I just sleep with men. Well, one man at a time anyway. ugh the digression - anyway . . . . Its a fun place to go - no pretention no crap - just nice guys having fun with their friends. It has all the trappings of a good gay bar - pool table, juke box, strong drinks, strong drinks, eye candy, strong drinks, eye candy and strong drinks. Did I mention the bartender is cute? Ha They are all very nice and very attentive. I wink and a smile . . must be a gay bar haha

Yelp
I visited Seattle from Portland for the first time last weekend and I had a list of the usual stuff to do. Pikes Place, library, gum wall, Elysian Brewery, etc After Elysian we decided to go somewhere cheaper and we googled pub and found the Madison. The outside was very unassuming, I think there was just a leprechaun on the outside. We went inside after having our IDs checked and saw a roomy bar with pool tables, TVs, and some Irish stuff abound. It was Saturday around 8 so it was pretty empty. We got some stools away from the bar area and partook in the amazing deal of the night, imperial pints of Jubilale for $5! I was so excited about the deal I knocked back 4 of them in an hour then went to take a leak. When I left the bathroom I looked around, and to my shock, I realized I was at a gay bar. The bar was pretty full at this point with well chiseled men in tight fitting t-shirts. Now I've been to gay bars before, but none like this. Usually there are giveaways, rainbow flags, terrible dance music, a cover. This place had none of those things. I really thought i was just at an Irish sports bar. Anyway I had two more Jubilale's then decided it was time to continue the hopping. Good place, not gay, but would definitely go back.

Yelp
The entrance to Madison Pub is pretty unimpressive, and the guy with the headcounter clicker thing at the door made me leery of what kind of chaos might be inside, but I was pleasantly surprised. Apparently the clicker helps them keep it from getting too packed, so we easily found a bar to sidle up to, and the (trendy, goodlooking) bartenders and wait staff were quick to pour drinks and whisk away empty glasses. Prices were good; a pitcher of Manny's was cheaper than 3 glasses on their own, and they had plenty of specials listed on the board. Lots of games to play, from pinball to darts to pool and other random video games. If you're a lady, expect to be slightly outnumbered. Case in point: I went in search of the ladies room and found TWO mens rooms before I found the one little closet labeled "ladies." Inside of which there were two men. And no stall door. So it might be best to bring a buddy if you have one to stand guard. Glad to know this place exists!

Yelp
I enjoyed this place so much! This was the first "gay pub" I've ever seen (maybe I'm just missing them across the USA, but I haven't found one in the past 6 cities I've been in!). Basically it's just a place for guys to go, stand around, talk with friends and enjoy a drink. PLUS, they had Blue Moon on tap AND the orange to go with it! Good drink prices too. Now, the piece de resistance: the trifecta of nerd pinball machines! "Spider Man", "Family Guy", and "Lord of the Rings". I just about died and was tempted to ask someone how the hell I could go about purchasing my own Family Guy pinball machine (I'm watching volume 3 on my laptop as I write this). So, let's recap: cool pub, gay men, great pinball, awesome beers on tap, and no line (actually...I haven't even seen a line at a bar here yet...god help me if there ever is one).
google avatar

Katie S.

Yelp
My friend wanted to go someplace for a few drinks the celebrate his bday and we decided on Madison Pub. We hadn't read any of the Yelp reviews, just heard it could be good. The moment we walk in my friend realizes its a gay bar. We look around and decided to sit down and see what its like. The bartender was super friendly and whipped out a plastic princess crown for the birthday boy, which my friend sportingly wore the entire time we were there. Sadly he didn't get to keep it... The place seemed well lit, not too loud, and fairly clean. The patrons were friendly and the bar backs helpful when the bartender stepped away. Go Madison Pub. Get more princess crowns though...
google avatar

Saxon F.

Yelp
This is a pretty cool gay pub. Not filled with phalli or having loud dance music is the perfect change of pace from the stereotypical gays night out. They have pool and pinball and decently priced drinks. Each time I have been they have been very busy. Located close to cuff, diesel, and pony it is great for Both it's own trip to capital hill, or as a stop in between other bars
google avatar

Yelp
We were in Seattle from Atlanta for several days. Took about a 12 minute Uber ride from our downtown hotel on Sunday afternoon. It was about half full. Saddled up to bar and was happy when I saw 3 types of Rye whiskey. I thinks it's touted as a Sports bar but they were playing a movie. Nice crowd and better then Pony which was too crowded with Stand and Model crowd.

Yelp
A reasonably well-lighted bar, with pool, video games, and pinball (Spider Man, Family Guy, and LoTR). Not too much attitude or debauchery afoot when I have been there. Granted: I visit just for pinball. My name is John, and I have a pinball problem.
