How To Spend a Big Fat Weekend in Québec City | Bon Appétit

"A killer coffee shop by day and a chill cocktail bar by night, Maelstrøm is a certified overachiever. In the A.M. I opted for a cortado while browsing their selection of zines. At night, the lights dimmed, and the vibe was significantly less college café. I swapped my cortado for the Italiano, a low-ABV cocktail with Cynar, grapefruit juice, and tonic that I plan to recreate at home. You canandshould hit up Maelstrøm twice in one day." - ByRachel Karten

The Best Bars in Quebec City | Eater Montreal

"Complex and coffee-centric creations served in a beautiful red brick building with a cracking wooden floor. Decorated with an eccentric mix of wood furniture and a standing piano, there’s a vintage energy to Maelstrom, yet with a very modern and refreshing take on cocktails. It’s vegan-friendly on the food front, and has strong options for non-alcoholic drinks." - Allison Van Rassel

We stopped by Maelstrom during our visit to Quebec City and it quickly became our favorite restaurant in town. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and provided quick service. All the food was a hit. Each dish tasted so fresh and clean. Definitely recommend going if you’re in town or wanting to try a new place!

Every aspect of Maelstrøm was a welcome surprise — from the warm lighting and inspiring decor to the eclectic mix of Mediterranean and Quebecois cuisine to the charming staff eager to make the experience a memorable one. We visited 2 days back to back and cannot stop raving about it! Looking forward to visiting again in the near future!

I went here during the winter holiday season (2024) to enjoy some Christmas inspired drinks, which were very delicious. I had the mushrooms eggs Benedict, two of the run run reindeer, a chrismaspolitan, and the snowball old fashion. Very nice pop-up Christmas themed drinks 🍸.

Nice cozy place, minimal atmosphere and menu, but really nice delicious coffee and breakfast. Stuffs are nice and cool! Recommend!

Food tastes as amazing as it looks! We had a lovely brunch on the patio bistro. High quality, thoughtful dishes at affordable prices. The staff were very pleasant and friendly. Menu is a delight for a vegetarian like me without compromising flavour or satiating factor. We will certainly revisit during our stay in QC 😍

I was looking for a nearby coffee shop with small bites when I discovered this gem, and I'm beyond thrilled I did. The atmosphere, the service, and above all, the coffee and food were absolutely incredible.

Google
It was one of the best brunch I've had in all of Canada. Brunch ends at 3 pm. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was great. The coffee was below my expectations. I highly recommend the place👍🏻

Yelp
The food and drink were delicious and the space was so cozy, especially on a rainy day. The portions were quite small and the service is slow...

Yelp
Adorable brunch place right next to our airbnb. We went right at 11am and didn't have to wait. They have a great selection of food for breakfast and lots of coffee as well as alcoholic drinks.

Yelp
I found there a very warm welcome, cozy atmosphere and peace for my soul. It feel like an hostel for all types of minds. The food is awesome and very adorable for the high quality. I'll definitely make it a second home or spot to work.

Yelp
A beautiful cafe right by the Dorchester Parking. Loved the aesthetic decor of the cafe. We were lucky to get a spot the moment we walked in because I expect this establishment to be well occupied on a Saturday morning. The staff are very friendly, and were kind enough to communicate with us in English without any hesitation. We really enjoyed the Pan Cakes and the Shakshuka. Since we were in a rush to explore city my only regret is to have so little time to chill here. I highly recommend and would definitely return.

Yelp
***** I'm so happy to have chosen the Saint-Roch district for my stay in Quebec - everything is close, within walking distance. The airport and Île d'Orléans are only 15 minutes away by car and the rest of the region is within walking distance. A few minutes from me is Maelstrøm Saint-Roch, a cafe with cocktails and the most delicious food. I know - all the food I've eaten in Quebec is delicious but it's true. I walked in and was pleasantly greeted and seated at a table inside - they have a wonderful outdoor seating area as well. I ordered a Tomato, which was their refreshing take on a Bloody Cesar: mix of a bloody house caesar, spices of a bloody coffee, lime bourbon. I don't usually like bourbon but I sucked it down like a thirsty man in the desert. Fantastic. Lime was a good idea. For my breakfast, I ordered the flammekueche, a wonderful version of the Alsatian classic. The poached egg on it was perfect - I wanted to cry, it was so perfect, not even a joke. All of that in itself would have been a perfectly satisfying breakfast, but the shakshuka also caught my eye, so I ordered the shakshuka - with sardines, a first for me but not a last. The sardines went perfectly with the shakshuka - wow! Now that I was well drunk I decided to leave before I could embarrass myself even more and by the time I was about to pay - I saw some lovely pain au chocolat and well - I had one to take , bagless...and I went happily through the day with a mouthful of buttery, flaky pastry and a perfect amount of hot, melted chocolate...if you're in Quebec, the Maelstrøm Saint-Roch is a must visit and be careful because like a real maelstrom, you'll be sucked in by the warm service, great food, wonderful cocktails and fantastic ambience of this popular spot.

Yelp
The service here is REALLY SLOW but it was next to our air bNb so we came frequently. We got drinks a few times, coffee a few times and I ordered their cheese scone once. I loved the scone! Cheese and herb flavor, served with marscapone cheese and an apple hash. It sounds weird, but it was interesting and savory and yummy.

Yelp
My partner and I took a trip to Quebec City recently and, as always, were on the hunt for the perfect coffee shop to try some delicious, high quality espresso while sitting in a cozy, warm ambiance. WE FOUND IT! Maelstrom Saint-Roch was perfect - Brick walls, wood tables, a mix of industrial with modern touches - the perfect place to get settled in for a good conversation, good book, and some damn good coffee/espresso. We've spent a lot of time and money in coffeeshops over the years and we always order an espresso, a latte and a hot coffee or cold brew. These give us a good idea of the quality a place has to offer - Maelstrom did not disappoint. The espresso was one of the best we've had in a long while - perfectly pulled, enjoyable to drink. Delicious. My latte was also expertly made with steamed milk fit for beautiful latte art. All served in ceramic mugs with saucers. They do offer free wifi which is great if you need to study or work here, but there were also people just chatting over a morning cup of coffee or reading the newspaper. They also have a cocktail bar that I believe gets going later in the day - we would have LOVED to come back to try some coffee cocktails, but we were short on time. Overall, Maelstrom deserve every good review they get - the staff was friendly, the product is very high quality and the atmosphere is well worth going out of your way for. If you're visiting from out of town and care about coffee - you need to stop by! If you're local and have easy access to this incredible coffee paradise - what are you waiting for?!

Yelp
Great coffee shop with several eatery options. First the coffee itself is perfect. Food it also good for the breakfast - they have omlet, poached eggs with salmon, French toast etc. Everything we ordered were fresh and tasty. The only problem is that not all the menu is available everyday, on Saturday it was there, but on Wednesday they had only croissants. Waiter were very nice and friendly, she also takes barista duties.

Yelp
I would have given it a zero review if it was an option. The worst service. They served us the wrong food and didn't let us sit earlier although they had enough room inside. The food was c

Yelp
One of those rare cafes that are even better in person than how they appear in photos. I had one day in Quebec City and came here both for coffee in the morning and for the bar at night. I really enjoyed both vibes. In the morning, there was a light breeze through the open windows, and a good (but not too busy) mix of individuals with laptops or books and groups seated for brunch. I ordered a latte (for here), which they served in a rustic/farm-chic cappuccino cup, and the shakshuka, which was well-priced for the portion. The bilingual baristas were friendly and checked in (sparingly) which was appreciated. I also enjoyed the chill music in the background and even looked up some of the songs to save to my playlists. At night, I sat at the bar and journaled alone; the lighting was dim and cocktails were served in cute glassware with reindeer/Christmas themes. I'll be thinking back to this cafe as it set the bar high for my search for the best coffee spots!

Yelp
Excellent cocktails, great vibe, friendly staff. Pascal made a well-done rum old fashioned and I had a delicious non-alcoholic herbal.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere and probably a good place to be. But we came here for the oatmeal breakfast advertised online. Sadly they only sell those in the weekend but that piece of information was not found online.

Yelp
I love a cocktail bar that doubles as a cafe. I was pretty impressed with the space. Lots of natural lights, good wooden tables great decorations. It makes you feel at peace and puts you at ease to hang out and grab either a coffee (in my opinion a tea) or a drink. Now the cocktails, a little above the average price point in Quebec city but I was very impressed with the cocktail ingredients. It seems whoever the cocktail artist behind the bar really put some thought into each and every drink. I appreciated that when we had our various drinks. My spicy margarita was good blend of kick and tequila. My friend got the what's up doc which is what I expected from a carrot based cocktail. It was a good blend of carrot and other flavor that made this cocktail a 5/5. The bartender was attentive and was always refilling our water. I wish this place existed in New York, I would be here all the time. We didn't get any of the coffee cocktails but it'll be motivation for me to return.

Yelp
Great local coffee spot. This doesn't have the feel of a tourist destination, rather, it's a glimpse into where hip people in Quebec City hang out. There are plenty of tables, and the coffee is excellent quality. It's a bit on the quieter side, so if you're looking for a scene you might want to go elsewhere. But if you're looking for a moment to regroup or perhaps put your nose in a book, this is a great joint.

Yelp
So good, please go here! My husband and I were in Quebec City for a few days and stumbled upon this place due to Yelp reviews. We were looking for a place with good coffee and breakfast. Jackpot on both. This was one of the best meals we ate the entire trip, and we ate a lot of good meals! The place has a lot of brick, old and scarred wooden tables, industrial lighting with a real hipster vibe. The one guy working the coffee station and taking orders was very friendly and very efficient. We got the Spanish omelette and the Avocado toast. Both were huge meals that looked like they came out of a very professional kitchen. The omelette was absolutely awesome and it came with fruit, salad and a baguette. The avocado toast had tomato bruschetta, balsamic drizzle and excellent bread. I had a latte and my husband the cold brew. All were awesome.
