The 35 Best Restaurants in Porto, Portugal | Eater

"After browsing the colorful stalls of vegetables, meats, and live poultry at the charming and historic Matosinhos Market, head to Mafalda’s, where they offer a rotating weekday lunch menu tailored to a market-savvy clientele. There’s always soup — a beloved tradition in Porto — to warm you up before the daily specials, which range from pasta to chicken curry. For those looking for a lighter lunch, there are also hearty toasts, like smoked salmon with homemade cream cheese or hummus with sauteed mushrooms. Best for: Saturdays are all about brunch, with standout eggs, toasts, and pancakes." - Rafael Tonon

Incredible fusion and balance of flavors. You can have a “menu of the day” for ~13 euros which changes daily. The ingredients are fresh and high quality. I had a salad with tomato and watermelon that was one of the best bites I’ve had all summer. It seems a little bit off the path if you’re visiting Porto, but definitely worth the visit. Thanks for such an amazing experience!

Mafalda’s, tucked away inside Mercado de Matosinhos, is a charming spot with a welcoming vibe. Remember to place your order beforehand, as it’s a popular local favorite. The dishes are outstanding, featuring generous portions and thoughtfully selected ingredients that deliver authentic, delightful flavors. Though it might not be an absolute must-visit destination, if you’re in the area, it’s definitely worth a stop - you won’t regret it. I tried their veggie lasagna and instantly fell in love with it; the taste was simply exceptional. Mafalda’s offers a genuinely enjoyable dining experience that leaves you satisfied and eager to return.

Wow! The food was amazing and the quality of the fish added extra flavour, I really appreciated the explanation behind the weekly menu and the staff was overall great. Highly recommended

Amazing place for weekday lunch and Saturday brunch. To me, this is a pretty unique place. Changing the menu every day is a lot of work. I had a wine bar, and the charging menu even seasonally was a really headache. I would say most of the times combinations work. The only recommendation would be to dare more with seasoning and spices.

A different lunch menu with very tasty food and amazing dessert every day, and very nice people. The moqueca was great and the chocolate lava cake to die for. Highly recommended for a simple but filling and delicious lunch.

My wife and I have traveled a lot together in Portugal, so when we say that this is probably our favorite place for lunch here in this beautiful country, that might be saying something. Definitely stop by Mafalda's when you are in Porto - and more specifically in the characteristic harbor district of Matosinhos - you will really not regret it. Original recipes, not expensive at all, super healthy and very friendly: everything a person could want.

Place is located in the market. You can get a fixed day menu for the fixed price. Place full of locals it's refreshing to seat inside. Salad (mango with onions was strange but good) sandwiches was also good, Portuguese green soup we have tried in the multiple places and every time it had some differences, so cannot judge, it's very simple soup thought. Service is fine. Just maybe it was this exact day menu, but sandwiches is more snacks than a hot dish you would expect as a part of the main dish in the menu.

I love the concept of Mafalda's! They have a different lunch menu each day with a different brunch menu each Saturday (brunch is only served on the weekends). You choose from a soup & main, starter and main or a starter, soup and main. They offer a vegetarian or meat/fish dish for the main dish. The food is so tasty and really is great quality!! Although we were quite full we shared a dessert because their Banoffee pie has the BEST ginger crust that we have ever tasted! The service was exceptional - Mafalda's is proof that you can get top quality service and food in one place!!
