The 15 Best Restaurants At The Original Farmers Market At Third & Fairfax

"Open since 1917, Magee’s isn’t just the original Farmer’s Market restaurant, it’s one of the oldest eating establishments in the entire city. As the story goes, Blanche Magee figured all the farmers dropping off produce at 3rd and Fairfax would want some lunch, so she filled a basket with corned beef and other personal favorites and started selling. Fast forward a century and this LA institution is still going strong and selling the same famous corned beef. You can get it in a sandwich with rye bread and spicy mustard, but we actually prefer it as a plate instead. That way you can experience the perfectly-balanced brininess all on its own - and get two sides of your choice as well." - brant cox

Open since 1917 I would say that Maggie‘s is the most famous deli at the Farmers Market. It’s right in the center so it can get quite busy, but we were lucky enough to be first in line for our Saturday lunch. You order at the counter and then grab your food at the carving station. They don’t offer inside seating so it will have to be at one of the many tables strewn about the Farmers Market. Everything that we ordered was made pretty quickly but pricing is a bit more expensive than some other places close by, but you really do get a great quality sandwich in return. Parking at the Farmers Market is probably the hardest part, not so much in that they have limited spaces but after 90 minutes parking can get pretty expensive per hour. Just be mindful of time and if you plan to be out in less than 90 minutes, parking is free. Being my first visit, I wanted to try their most famous sandwich which is the Corned Beef Reuben. I recently dined at Art’s Deli up in the valley and got the same sandwich and preferred this Maggie’s version a lot more. The meat is very juicy and the bread was perfectly toasty and overall the portion size was fair. Itt just had some great flavors. There are a few other places in town that I like even more, but it was a great version and I would happily order it again. I would definitely recommend to any sandwich or deli fan or to anyone who is visiting the Farmers Market and looking for a great food option.

Wow! Really great Pastrami. I had the Pastrami Sandwich (Reuben) and a Coca Kola Lite. If you ask they also let you try the meat before and I wasn’t sure to go for the corned beef or the Pastrami. Trying them helped me a lot. The Reuben is super loaded also with Kraut. Afterwards I would have preferred for another sandwich type as the meat alone was awesome enough. No need for anything but cheese and mustard 👌

It's an awesome place to eat with delicious food! The corned beef looked really good, but I went with the All-American hot dog instead, and it was delicious! The potato salad was tasty, too. It was a perfect lunch. I'm very happy. Highly recommend!

Google
I had the Reuben sandwich, which consists of corned beef, toasted rye bread, sauerkraut, melted swiss cheese, thousand island sauce, and homemade mustard. The corned beef was perfectly seasoned and bouncy soft. The right amount of dressings added to compliment the meat flavour. The sauerkraut gave a light crunch in every bites to balance the texture of the meat. This sandwich is a must try if you visit the market.

My parents brought me to farmers market since I was four years old. I’m 62 now I no longer live in Los Angeles, but visit at least four times a year as my family and friends are still here. The one place I always make a point to visit is Magee’s Kitchen at the Farmers Market.. My order never changes. I order a French dip sandwich with horseradish and a side of mashed potatoes with gravy, of course. It makes me feel like home. Always delicious and satisfying. Do yourself a favor and walk upstairs to a table by the windows where you can watch the people down below. It makes lunch even more satisfying. Not sure I would return to farmers market if McGee‘s weren’t there. I look forward to my next visit already.

During my visit to the Los Angeles Farmers Market, I stopped by Magee’s Kitchen, and it quickly became a highlight of my trip. This place is a true L.A. institution, and for good reason—they’ve been serving up classic deli fare for over 100 years, and it shows in the quality of their food. I had The Norm, and wow, what a sandwich! It’s a perfectly piled Pastrami on Rye, topped with creamy coleslaw, Swiss cheese, and just the right amount of Thousand Island dressing. The pastrami was tender, smoky, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious, with just the right amount of fat for that classic deli flavor. The coleslaw added a crisp, refreshing crunch, and the tangy dressing brought it all together beautifully. The rye bread held up perfectly, with a slight chew and a toasty finish that made each bite satisfying. The location inside the historic Farmers Market is unbeatable. There’s something nostalgic about grabbing a sandwich from Magee’s while soaking in the vintage charm of the market. The staff were friendly and welcoming, making you feel like part of the family. If you’re a fan of old-school deli sandwiches, Magee’s Kitchen is a must. It’s one of those places that’s stood the test of time for a reason. I’ll definitely be back to try more, but for now, The Norm has my heart!

Google
What a dud. We were shocked at the size of the small portions. The person making the sandwiches weighed the meat and took a small slice off so that it would exactly match the amount you were supposed to get. This is not what I expect for $27. With two bottles of water, our bill was over $60.

Google
Stopped into the Original Farmers Market on a tour break and had Magee's recommended. Was up for a good sandwich, and the French Dip caught my eye, even though the Reuben was tempting. The counter service was super friendly, and the gent who took my order noted it was his favorite. I thoroughly enjoyed it. With a decent portion of roast beef and balanced (not salty) Au jus, it was a filling meal. I didn't try their assortment of sides, but they looked tasty. At about $22 for a sandwich and soda, that's about what I'd expect in downtown Los Angeles. If checking out the market, I'd say give this place a try.

Yelp
damn was i surprised by this. when you think of delis that serve great pastrami, you got langers in la and you got katz in ny no doubt. but magee's one hundred percent deserves an honorable mention. something about a classic deli sandwich that just hits hard. the age old question is - does the bread or the meat make the sandwich? well how about both. we tried both their corned beef and their pastrami, both being amazingly delicious. on one sandwich you got the perfectly toasted bread, and on the other you got the perfect homey rye bread. service here is great, fast and friendly. just wish the patrons would reciprocate it back to the workers. kindness goes a long way everyone!

Yelp
The Reuben sandwich was pretty good, very flavorful but expensive for the amount of food you get. There was a line that took maybe 15 minutes to order, but overall service was pretty quick. There's lots of public seating outside. It can get super busy and crowded.
google avatar

Yelp
I'd had a Langer's pastrami and corned beef sandwich (best in the county in my book) just a day before I was there so my memory was fresh and I wanted to rate my comparison. They just ran out of corned beef which is what they are famous for so I settled for pastrami and even though I prepared myself for a disappointment, the pastrami actually tasted ok. Fat content, spices, and tenderness were good. The bread tasted a bit stale though. Not bad and 3.5 compared to Langer's being 5/5

Yelp
Est. 1934- started 1917 Magee's Kitchen opened as a food stand at the Grand Central Market in 1917, and then moved to the LA Farmers Market in 1934. Magee's became the first restaurant (permanent tenant) to open in the Original Farmer's Market. Blanche Magee paid $100 to bring electricity to the market and she was responsible for putting up tables and chairs , as well as bringing in the first public toilets to the market. Come to Magee's and get a taste of history. We had the Word-Famous Corned Beef Sandwich (introduced to the menu in the 1940's) and it did not disappoint. The meat was tender and packed with flavor, and the coleslaw was crisp and crunchy. The side of Mash & Gravy was fine, but nothing special. The staples here are the meats and the nuts. The service was very friendly and helpful and we were delighted to also see so many Mexican dishes available. It's amazing that Magee's Kitchen has lasted so long and we look forward to our next visit.

Yelp
This spot is located in the Original Farmer's Market. We came here on St. Patrick's Day, and it was a hugeeeeeee line! Took around 40ish minutes to get our food. We got the corned beef plate (comes with cabbage and potato balls) and the pastrami plate (with mac and cheese and creamed spinach as the sides). The corned beef was super tender, and was definitely the star of the lunch. They give you mustard and horseradish to add more flavor. The potato balls were super plain, so it was barely edible. The cabbage was solid. The pastrami had some tender pieces, but some pieces were dry. I overall enjoyed the Mac and cheese. It was thick, but maybe could have had a stronger cheese taste. The creamed spinach was tasty! Total for both dishes was around $48.

Yelp
Magee's Kitchen is one of the stands at the Original Farmer's Market on 3rd and Fairfax. They're known for their beef, but specifically their corn beef sandwiches on rye. Recently I was in the area and decided to stop by to get some food. The service was efficient and I got my food pretty quickly considering how busy the Farmer's Market was at that time. If you're looking for ambiance, take your plate of food and head upstairs to the second floor and plant yourself at a table next to the window. The nice breeze hitting the trees right outside will be something special. Now for the food. Unfortunately, it was disappointing. I ordered the roast beef plate with a side of cream corn and mac & cheese. The mac & cheese was decent with good grade cheese. The cream corn was a little on the watery side for me, but at least seasoned well. The roast beef was well cooked at medium, but lacked absolutely any flavor. I don't know if they just forgot to season the meat while cooking, but I had to cover it up with the sides just to eat it as it was incredibly bland. That was a big disappointment. I also tried one of their hot dogs. I ordered the All-American. While the dog was nicely cooked, the relish was a little dry. While I understand that it's fresh relish, to call it the All-American, there's an expectation that comes alone with it and this just did not meet it. I expected a wetter relish and onions and what I got was very dry. Overall, I hate to say it, but it's not worth the premium paid to eat here. There are definitely better options if you're looking for protein, but it makes me sad because I really wanted to like it.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem at The Grove Farmer's Market in my opinion. The Pastrami is delicious and you get two sides with your plate. Everything is flavorful and you get what you pay for. I thought the pastrami was juicy, fresh and delicious and both of the slaws were delicious and refreshing.

Yelp
Is Horseradish important to you? It's a Big Deal to me. And, I want to tell you, this place makes the BEST horseradish I've ever purchased. It's truly outstanding. Way better than any I've ever bought in a grocery store. Equal to any I've had in a restaurant. As I was walking by the display case at Magee's I noticed these jars of horseradish. And I was struck by how much display space was afforded the product. Then I noticed there were two different kinds, the familiar looking white kind and a strange red version. I had to find out what was up with the red horseradish so I asked the guy behind the counter. He explained that the red had a little Beet Juice added to it. He told me it was popular in Jewish cuisine, that it paired well with gefilte fish. He continued on, sharing a bit of the company's history. I was surprised to learn that Magee's is over a 100 years old, and their Horseradish was their first product. Originally it was sold from a little cart on the street. Then, in 1917, when Grand Central Market was built, Magee's was one of the first tenants. After nearly 20 years at the Grand Central, Magee's moved here to the Original LA Farmer's Market in 1934 becoming the Market's first restaurant. I was so surprised to learn that this is the oldest restaurant here. I was kicking myself for having never eaten here before. I resolved to remedy that at my earliest possible opportunity. And I decided right then to buy a jar of their horseradish, the product their whole 100 plus years as a company was built on. So, tonight I tried that horseradish and WOW was I impressed. The stuff is pure freshly ground horseradish, no filler, no weird add ins. If it's not perfect, it definitely will do until perfect comes along. As my Grandpa used to say, that stuff will put hair on your chest! Mikey C says: Ooooo-weee, that's good horseradish!

Yelp
Way Over Priced! After Charging $27.50 for a Deli Lunch Plate, they would not give us an extra half a pickle with asking for an additional 50 cents for that half a pickle. A very petty gesture on there part. Very disappointing for us to be treated that way after spending so much for a lunch plate. How cheap and greedy the people who work there treat customers in the way, we now know what place at the Farmers to NEVER go to again and to never recommend it to any friends or family that come to L.A. for a visit. Shame on you McGee's. After going to McGee's since childhood with my parents, I feel they no longer deserve to have loyal customers such as my family and myself only to tell us that we cannot have a pickle slice unless we spend 50 cents more after sometimes spending close to $100.00 for 4 people to eat lunch A Very shortsighted gesture from your employee. Normally I give a $3-5 dollar tip. Today and in the future if we come back the tip will be ZERO. Such a negative, petty set of people who work there, they are not helping your decades long good reputation. A super negative experience there today!

Yelp
Excellent, quick service food served hot and fresh! The options were many and they were outstanding (we tried many!). The staff were friendly and helpful and the restaurant/stand was very clean with the food inspection score/certificate displayed and easily viewable. The vice was kitschy and cool and we will gladly come again!

Yelp
Tried Magees Kitchen for the first time back in late August. Tried the roast beef plate with mashed potatoes and creamed corn. Also asked for extra horseradish. Amazing. It was a great weather Friday and the place was getting packed at lunch time. Great to see people enjoying themselves. Magees also has great sandwiches. Also some of the dining tables have great views of the Hollywood Hills!

Yelp
A solid 3+ stars! This was our first meal of the day and also at the farmers market. It was difficult to pick a place but I saw the man cutting the meats (which peaked my interest) and the line wasn't crazy long. I ended up ordering the Reuben with coleslaw. I requested some horseradish on the side. The corned beef was absolutely tender. Literally melted my mouth. It was good but could've used slightly more salt. The horseradish helped a lot. Either way, I really enjoyed this sandwich!

Yelp
Great French Dip with au jus that is just perfect with beef flavor and not salty like many places. Medium rare beef is tender and perfectly cooked. This is my go to meal at the Farmers Market. Staff very friendly and welcoming.

Yelp
Nothing like a fresh carved, warm turkey sandwich from Magees. Their turkey plate with mashed potatoes and gravy also exceptional. I love all they have to offer. Dine here weekly. The corned beef is the best in the world. French dip or just slices of roast beef .. yummy. All hand carved.

John F.

Yelp
I have lived in LA for 50 years. I have been to all the big time sandwich joints - Phillippe's, Langer's, etc. But Magee's is rightfully known by all of us who really live here as the best of the best. Magee's pastrami and corned beef are perfectly cooked and of the finest quality. The turkey is fresh roasted like your mom would make on Thanksgiving. The ham is delicious. The side dishes are perfect as well. There is a reason this restaurant has served Angelenos for decades and there is a reason all the true locals come to Magee's for the best roasts and sandwiches on earth. This is truly a piece of Los Angeles history that I urge everyone to support. You will become a regular - trust me.

Yelp
Tried their famous corned beef with their parsley potatoes and macaroni salad. The meal was good, Felt like there's just some flavor lacking a bit but overall worth a try
google avatar

Yelp
I LOVE corned beef so you know when I was at the market I had to get a corned beef reuben. It was DELICIOUS!! The corned beef, sauerkraut, and mustard were all in generous portions. But it is pretty small for the price ($22 after tax). If you have a larger appetite like me, expect to be grabbing one or two more things at the farmers market because you probably won't be full from just this reuben. Luckily trying foods is what farmers markets are all about after all :)
google avatar

Nathan G.

Yelp
Solid basic corned beef sandwich here. "The Original" is very straightforward, thick slices of corned beef on rye with mustard. "The Classic", ham and Swiss on rye, also hit the spot. Can't go wrong with either one. They have more elaborate sandwiches like Reubens too, but i always prefer the simpler versions myself. As for sides: mac and cheese is good (kids love it), but the thing to not miss is the creamed spinach - it was great and an unexpected treat. Anyplace open for more than 100 years is bound to be good at what they do, and Magee's is no exception.

Yelp
In the Grove's Farner's market. Good place for comfort food. Fast service. Clean. No frills. Prixey, bit it is LA...
google avatar

Yelp
The pastrami sandwich was great but it was a bit on the pricey side. I appreciated a good amount of choices on the menu and the quick service (granted there were only a few people ahead of me.)
google avatar

Cosmiclady L.

Yelp
From the pastrami sample, I was sold..so tender it.melts in your mouth. Like real NY style...The cream spinach is so good..glad I chose it for my side. They actually serve quarter cabbage as a side. Never get pastrami like this in Atlanta. I will remember this for a long time

Yelp
Quick lunch bite. Fast service. Got the Corn beef Rueben sandwich. it was pretty good, meat was good, freshly sliced on the spot. friendly staffs.

Yelp
Came to Magee's at the Original Farmers market and we're promptly served delicious food. We had a corned beef sandwich, a side of Mac n cheese, baked beans, and a slaw dog as well as a couple sodas. The cherry cream soda was to die for while the orange soda tasted like a starburst. The slaw dog was much bigger than expected and the mac n cheese was sooooo creamy and delicious. The Reuben was pricey at $19, but very well worth it. Would be nice if it came with a simple bag of chips at that price. The baked beans were just okay, they definitely were missing flavor and a bit bland. This is a food stall in the farmers market, so no table service. You order at the counter and then get your food and choose any table like a regular food court. The location is busy but the tables are clean and there are folks running around clearing and cleaning tables throughout the day. This is a great place for a first date or to get together with friends, with food for all people, but Magee's is particularly good.

Yelp
On a sunny Saturday morning, we came here to catch some munchies before going shopping with two teenage girls... When I saw a guy craving juicy slices from a roasted chunk of meat, I was sold. I ordered a French Dip sandwich, and it was delicious! The bread was soft and the meat was tender and juicy. The sauce wasn't greasy or over salted, everything was just right :)
google avatar

AD S.

Yelp
Got the Reuben and the macaroni and cheese. The sandwich was really good! Very juicy and they are generous with the meat on the sandwich. The reason for the 4 star was cause the macaroni and cheese was very bland and didn't have much flavor, also the price for just those two things was close to $30. Next time I'd probably just get the sandwich by itself cause it was really good.
google avatar

Sandra A.

Yelp
I got a reuben. It was fine. But for 25$ including gratuity and no sides or a drink.... Sandwich only, I expect it to be incredible. Service was also just fine. With a place that has a similar menu directly across the way and a lower price point you'd expect everything here to be better or at the very least worth the price.
google avatar

Jessica W.

Yelp
It is located at The Grove Farmer's Market. Decided to try the Reuben sandwich and shared this with my hubby. They weigh the meat so every sandwich is equal. For the price and the amount you get, it isn't worth it for $20 after tax. It is really pricey and we had better corned beef sandwich. There was literally 3 pieces of meat in there. Decent sandwich, but there are better ones out there for the price.
google avatar

Julia H.

Yelp
Located in The Original Farmer's Market, my bf & I were at shopping at The Grove and wanted a quick dinner. The owner was friendly and gave us an extra bit of pastrami to sample. I loved the pastrami, thought it was more tender and slightly more flavorful than the corned beef, so that'll be my go-to next time! The corned beef plate was also good though! You get a choice of two sides (hot/cold) and they carve the meet and weigh per plate. I also got the French Dip sandwich and enjoyed it too. Didn't get any pictures this time because we happened to be starving, lol. They validate parking for Farmer's Market parking lots only.
google avatar

Brittany S.

Yelp
I recently stopped by The Grove and had to stop by The Original Farmer's Market. It was very busy there and there are so many places to choose from , but luckily Yelp guided me here. This is a staple restaurant in the market with plenty of selection. All of their hot meats looked divine! I asked one of the workers what was popular and they pointed to their World Famous Corned Beef Sandwich which I knew I had to try. I got the plate version to save a few carbs.... Or rather save for the carbs I really wanted in the mashed potatoes! Haha. The Corned Beef was juicy and tender and did not "fatty" at all. Loved the pairing with the cabbage and the mashed potatoes but you can pick other sides. With tip, my total came to around $20. A little on the pricey side, but worth it. Love supporting places like this which are truly L.A. institutions for a reason. I would love to come back!

Yelp
Magee's Kitchen is located inside the Los Angeles Farmers Market, according to their website they're the original farmers market restaurant and have been open since 1934. My boyfriend and I went to the farmers market for lunch and were picking out snacks from different stands. I chose to get a Mac Daddy Hot Dog $8.50 which is a 1/4 lb. beef Nathan's hot dog topped with mac & cheese, bacon crumbles and ketchup. It tasted alright, the mac & cheese made it heavy for me so my boyfriend helped me finish it. Magee's offers many items on their menu including deli sandwiches, and plates like corned beef, turkey, roast beef, etc.

Yelp
So many choices, so many goodies, SOOOOO HUNGRY!!! I don't know about Big Bro but I wanted to eat EVERYTHING! But I let him take the lead. Since their menu caught his eye soon as we walked in, decision was pretty much done. He immediately decided on the Katz Meow. I advised him that before jumping the gun on what he should have for lunch to at least go roam around the entire Farmer's Market first since something else might catch his eye. He gave in, and after a few minutes of looking at other eateries, he still had his heart set on this place. Their menu is quite inviting. With Big Bro's sammich, he took a side of cucumbers. I went for the New Yorker with a side of mac salad. Being it a semi-warm day, we opted for bottled waters (vs soda.) Both sandwiches were made to order with hand carved meat. They were also both cut in half, so Big Bro and I traded halfsies just to get a taste of each other's orders. They were similar (given the type of meats) but they were also different. I chose the NY'er because I love the combo of corned beef and pastrami. They were generous with the amount and tasting both meats in one bite was very pleasant. I loved it. Mac salad was a great palate cleanser. It was light and not too savory, so it combo'd well with the sammich. The Katz Meow (as the cashier described) is their biggest meat sandwich, also one of the popular ones. Like the New Yorker, they were generous with the amount of meat. It is a pastrami sandwich and that's exactly what I tasted. It was juicy and packed with flavor. Recommending! The cucumber side was nothing to call home about. Mediocre at best. FOOD: 4. SERVICE: 3. Very little interaction. VALUE: 3.5. PARKING: Private lot for a fee. OVERALL: 3.5. I would return should I have the taste for deli sandwiches next time I find myself around here.

Yelp
Two words: the grove. That's what you have to fight to get to this place. So just plan a trip to the grove to come here maybe lol. Anyway the turkey sandwich was delicious. Really liked how fresh the turkey was. Please drop the prices tho holy moly.

Yelp
We walked through all the restaurants and this place had a long line, so we were intrigued. It was hard to decide between the pastrami dip or the sandwiches that had both pastrami and corned beef, but I decided on the the Ruben on sourdough. The Ruben on sourdough was delicious! It had plenty of meat and the sourkraut complemented the sandwich perfectly. I ended up eating the whole thing with the picked too, of course! I also ordered one of their juices which was really good and not too sweet. Make sure you stop here if you're looking for good tasty food!

Yelp
Situated in the famous Los Angeles Farmers Market, Magee's Kitchen established in 1917, over a century years old. They've been in the business since the inception of the ORIGINAL FARMERS MARKET RESTAURANT. For a company to be around before the Great Depression, they are more than a restaurant. It's an iconic establishment. Fascinated by its history, I had to give it a try. What I ordered: PASTRAMI SANDWICH and a side of MACARONI SALAD - Rye bread, Hand-sliced Pastrami, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Pickles, Onions, and Spicy Mustard - What I loved most of this sandwich was that the carver selectively hands sliced each pastrami and even took the time to cut off any excess fat and dark areas. Spicy mustard was the sauce I asked to be added to the sandwich. I was a bit unimpressed by the mustard because it was not spicy, and it didn't have that horseradish kick to the nose feeling. I thought the pastrami texture was good, but overall the sandwich was generally something I could have made at home. It didn't taste special. The macaroni salad tasted fresh but nothing extraordinary as well. This restaurant is a bit of a toss because I did enjoy the meal. But at the same time, I had high expectations. For a restaurant to be around this long, this restaurant's best representation is the home cooking method.

Yelp
I've had their hot dogs a few times and always had a good experience! They're a good size, toppings are plentiful, and staff is nice/quick. I've always gotten the downtown dog- I should probably branch out next time but it's just always so good! They have sodas that are also fantastic! Highly recommend the cherry cream.

Yelp
So many selections here at The Original Farmer's Market, but we went with Magee's Kitchen. Sandwiches were made to order which is always nice to see. Our sandwich has juicy meat with the right amount of crunch from the rye bread. The sauerkraut made the bread a bit soggy, but hey what can you expect. We ordered our sandwich with a side of mac and cheese and it was just the best meal ever. Notes: None

Yelp
Great options for a quick meal or snack! I was walking around the grove and got a little hungry. After browsing the farmers market we figure this was a good option. The menu is very straight forward and they tell you exactly what is on each item. The staff weren't the friendliest I had to get her attention to order but she was fairly hasty with taking our order. There were many options but we ended up both getting the mac and cheese hot dog. It comes with bacon and ketchup on it. It was pretty tasty! A little confused that they didn't give a napkin or fork with it considering its a loaded dog and obviously was going to be messy. We had to ask for it and even though we had two hot dogs she just gave us one... weird. I took off one star for the blah service and because the mac and cheese seemed old like it had been sitting out for a few hours. It would have been much better fresh and cheesy. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here but if I am walking around the grove craving a hot dog, I might give it another go. Overall 7 out of 10.

Yelp
I have been coming here for decades, and my now deceased mother was coming there since the 40's. The food is always fresh..the french dip beats the famous down places by a mile The midwest version of Mexican food is memories of my past This place is wonderful

Yelp
I try to support small independently owned businesses as much as I can. Unfortunately, this restaurant was a huge bust. I ordered their chicken enchilada plate (2 enchiladas with rice and beans) and was terribly disappointed. The food wasn't edible and I had to toss it in the trash after only a few bites. It was also overly priced. The enchilada sauce itself was unlike anything I've ever tasted and couldn't even be called enchilada sauce. The rice was horrendous: white rice (which seemed to have Veg-All mixed in) and had zero flavor. The beans were probably the best part about this dish and even that had zero flavor. I ordered one of their handcrafted colas which I also tossed out. I had high hopes but in the end I literally threw out a $20 meal.

Yelp
I'm a frequent guest to Farmer's Market and a fan of French Dip, familiar with the local haunts that have offered it around town for decades. I was starving and wanted to see how Magee's Kitchen shaped up, being an institution at Farmer's Market for over 100 years. I came on a weeknight, and there was only one person ahead of me so it was a short wait. The girl behind the counter was helpful and gave me a numbered ticket as I waited for my Dip to be made to order. To my surprise, Magee's only sells water, but in true Farmer's Market fashion, there are plenty of other stalls that sell drinks. My French Dip was good, but not my favorite compared to other 100+ year old Cafe options in town. Great pickle on the side though, and if I'm in the area and craving a French Dip, I could come back. Perhaps!

Yelp
In a sea of amazing food options... fresh donuts! Empanadas! Ice cream! Waffle espresso shots! Fresh pasta! Aaaaand I settled on this place... a basic diner/deli serving average food. Well, I wanted to stay low-carb today... I ate so much crap in DTLA the day before, just so I could use restrooms while on my walking tour that I needed to reset my body the rest of this trip. That said, my salad was not 'wow' nor memorable, but it was filling at a fair price. Warm, freshly sliced pastrami on top of basic greens... I opted for no dressing(actually they didn't offer one, and I was fine with that) as I knew the meat would be salty. It was a great decision; it was already so hot at 10am that dressing would have been too heavy. Overall, I can't see myself coming back here with so many other food stalls, but it fit my need that day and was super friendly on my wallet. Pros: - real plate - inexpensive - in a large food court with plenty of seating - fresh carved meats Cons: - none really. Everything was as expected

Yelp
We ordered the Downtown dog and it was a quick wait. The dog was okay. It wasn't super flavorful and needed more spice. It really was just a hot dog with onions and green peppers. You would really need ketchup and mustard.

Yelp
The pastrami here is the star of the show. Usually I just get 1/4 pound of pastrami to take home but last time I was here I saw the French dip and it looked so good I decided next time I was at the Farmers Market I would get one. 1/21/2024 I purchased the French dip and it was a huge mistake. First bite and I realize the roll is ice cold like it's just come out of the freezer. Since I had warm au jus to dunk it in, I figured I would overlook the icy bread. The meat and the au jus are bland, bland, bland and desperately need salt and seasoning to add flavor. The meat was tender enough but it was just one boring meal. I ate half and it pains me to throw away food (especially at $18 for a sandwich) but I didn't feel that anything I could do with the leftovers would jazz up this sad meal so I tossed my other half in the trash. Can't wait to go back to Philippe's to get a real tasty beef dip. Next time I'll stick to the 5 star pastrami.

Yelp
Best deli meats of anyone on the west side. Yum! Most of the sides were good too. But it's the thick cut sliced meats that are the main event. Lived around this place for almost 50 years but never knew this place existed. Trying to make up for lost time....

Yelp
As we approached Magee's Kitchen, I spied what looked like textbook, old school pastrami ready to be sliced on order. Little did I realize that looks could be deceiving for the sandwich that awaited me far exceeded my expectations. It was a remarkably hearty, well-seasoned pastrami the likes of which I have not found in over 20 years. If only the bread could match the legendary quality of the pastrami. But, overall, this was a 4-star- plus sandwich.v

Yelp
Got the original corn beef sandwich and it's delicious. I've been eating here since the 1990s and it stayed the same over the years with the quality.
