The Best Ice Cream Shops in Houston, Texas | Eater Houston

"Known for its wild confections and wacky flavors piled high with candy, Magnolia’s Ice Cream & More is doing the most. First, choose your ice cream base (vanilla is an excellent blank canvas). Then, add your toppings of choice, such as fresh fruit for a healthier vibe, gummy worms and sour candy for a candy fix, or a thick drizzle of chamoy for a more complex flavor." - Brianna Griff

The 14 Best Ice Cream Shops In Houston

"The Greater East End location of Magnolias Ice Cream & More, a Mexican chuchería, stocks everything you need to indulge in a chamoy-doused-candy-fueled sugar rush of epic proportions. Want to throw some gushers on a banana split? No problem. Want a milkshake smothered in fruit syrup and sour candy? Done. Magnolia’s makes anything junk food and ice cream-related, possible. If you want to avoid throngs of elementary-aged children clamoring for tajin sour worms, we suggest going to Magnolia’s after school hours." - chelsea thomas, gianni greene

Magnolia’s Ice Cream & More - Review - Greater East End - Houston - The Infatuation

"Imagine being a kid in elementary school and every day you have a choice to walk across the street and into, what we imagine, is a child’s idea of unbridled paradise (and possibly a parent’s nightmare): an ice cream and candy shop. Such a place exists: the Mexican chuchería Magnolia’s Ice Cream & More Greater East End location, sitting right next to an elementary school. That’s some serious built-in clienteleI. Like other chucherías, Magnolia’s has shelves and shelves of chamoy-soaked gushers, hot chips, and gummy candy galore. You can also get ice cream by the scoop, or try something called “The Xtreme,” three scoops of tropical fruit ice cream with spicy chamoy, sour gummy candy, and strawberries. Sno-cones get the same treatment, like the Pickle-Dilly served with, what else, pickles, and a packet of Kool-Aid to sprinkle over top. The innovation continues: get hot chips with cheese poured straight into the bag or whole apples slathered in tajin. Two things are guaranteed when you visit Magnolia’s: a stomach ache that kind of comes with the hot chip and sugar territory, and you will max out whatever daily chamoy intake you have (we all have that, right?). Hit up Magnolia’s after class, or, if you aren’t a child, swing by on weekends until 9pm and take down something neon colored and drowning in candy on the patio. photo credit: Chelsea Thomas" - Chelsea Thomas

Google
This is the best place for some cool treats! The smoothies are so rich and delicious and don't get me started on the candy apples! It is always so hard to decide what to choose because everything is so amazingly delicious! A true gem in the Houston food scene.

I work with kids and we came here after a field trip to Lockwood Skating Palace. It was magnificent. They were so kind and efficient. I called ahead of time to let them know we were coming with a group of 40 kids and they did amazing. Can’t wait to see them again

Google
I love this place! I been coming here since they first opened, I was in high school at the time and now I'm 29. Time sure flies by! The owners are sisters from what i can remember and are the sweetest. It has changed so much inside, im happy to see they are doing good. If you find yourself in the hood in Magnolia, you have to come here. Especially if you are visiting Houston, come here for some delicious treats! I usually get a Magonada but I do a scoop of mango and a scoop of pineapple gelato with some strawberries on top and some chamoy gummy bears and chamoy watermelon candies. The loaded nachos are perfect to share since it's alot. They have alot of items to choose from the menu, you won't be disappointed. They have another location on 45 and Broadway.

Google
We had an ice cream craving and looked at what was in the area. So glad we found this place. The menu has a little of everything and I especially loved the Oreo sundae. Also really appreciated the selection of snacks and candy. Going to have to make this place a regular stop so we can try more of the menu!

Google
Magnolias Ice Cream & More is the perfect spot for a delicious treat! The mangonadas are absolutely delicious, and the Cherry Bomb is so yummy—it’s hard to pick a favorite! The Mustang Deluxe is also so yummy, and the elote is a great. I also love the Chomy Gushers. The staff is incredibly sweet and adds to the welcoming atmosphere. Definitely recommend stopping by for a yummy snack!

Yelp
I wanted a snack after day of shopping and decided to stop here. To my surprise this was more than just an ice cream shop. They have all the candy craving and snacks you could think of. From ice cream sundaes, to snow cones, fruit cocktails, candy apples, chamoy snacks, pickle snacks, nachos, and frito pie. They also have aqua frescas and beverages as well. If you are into sour items they have chamoy pickles and sour gummy bears in chamoy. I had the picoyada and it is a sour explosion in your mouth! So, if you are a sour fan I would try this first! I tried the nachos and they are also very delicious with so much cheese and jalapeño. The service was great and very patient at allowing you to choose what you like. You can choose between sitting inside or outside, but I would say to enjoy a cold ice cream outside for the vibe. I would also try their specialty snacks too. Your inner child will thank you for it. It is very laid back and perfect for relaxing to enjoy a sweet treat!

Yelp
Cute place with so many selections of sweets. I came for the banana split because it was recommended. It wasn't a true banana split. It was pieces of banana with ice cream. It was good & they do give you a lot for the price. I'll definitely be back because I saw so many items I'd like to try.

Yelp
Great selection of treats in a bright, clean venue. That do some great combinations of ice cream and toppings. Check out the wall full of ideas. The Magnolia Supreme is a blast of fruit flavors, and the Texas Pecan Pie is a rich creamy treat. Prompt friendly service. Lots of great candies and other snacks too!

Yelp
I used to live in Magnolia so this brought back memories. This place is pretty cool, had all types of ice cream, chips with cheese and other stuff added to it and snow ones and candies with Chile. I choose pecan icecream and strawberry in a cup, my niece got Kool aid dilly and my sis had cherry icecream. She liked that it was so light, something like an icee. The lady there was welcoming and told us about what they sell. It's a nice spot. Definitely go again.

Yelp
Loved Magnolias! My husband brought me here and loved all the options! Wish I could have had time to try everything ! The space was very clean and at the time I went it was not very busy! I got a fresa raspa and it was really good ! Definitely will be going back!

Yelp
Just came for a quick date with my girls and the staff were very friendly and everything tasted really refreshing.

Yelp
There are signs posted to check prices on the menu before paying so there won't be any confusion. I did check the prices that's why I'm asking why was charged $.50 more than posted . The cashier had an attitude saying prices are changing but if u haven't changed them on the menu how can u charge me for what's not the menu price . Seems like the confusion is on her end not mine .

Yelp
Magnolias is one of the most unique ice cream shops in the city of Houston. Although the items sold are just as similar to other businesses alike magnolias is sure to stand out of the crowd. With a giant menu to choose from, the options are limitless. I enjoy "The grinch" every time I visit. The apple rose is a must try I usually take a few to go and share them with friends. You can eat Inside or outside there are nice clean restrooms inside. The dining area is very clean and organized. Highly recommend Magnolia's as a must try!

Ibette Vanessa G.

Yelp
I bought some nachos for me and my daughter and they were stale and they were dry too hardly no cheese at all . The lady that helped me out tied up the bag so I didn't check them when I was there so when I got home I was like what is this lots of chips and no cheese. Was not worth it I end up throwing away my nachos. They really need to add more cheese to their nachos. But the place was very clean n nice.

Yelp
One of my fave places for all the sweet stuff! My dad is even featured on their website, he might love Magnolia a tiny bit more than I do!!

Yelp
Ice, ice baby! This little gem was a pleasant surprise! Tucked in the middle of The historically Hispanic magnolia neighborhood this place was exactly what we were looking for after eating some yummy food at Ninfa's. When you roll up you can automatically tell that this is a well-maintained establishment, they have lovely outdoor seating, the windows are clean, and everything is well displayed. When you walk in, everything is immaculate. Compared to several different refresquerias, this one definitely is at the top of my list. 1. First of all I was very impressed on how clean this place was! 2. Not only did they have shaved ice, they had lots of drinking and eating options as well. 3. They also accepted credit cards, which is very convenient when you have Apple wallet and don't carry your purse around. All in all, I highly recommend trying this place out, the cleanliness alone is a big deal for me.

Yelp
Two friends and I came out to get some late night snacks after playing tennis. Upon arrival we all immediately liked the place. The atmosphere is super clean, employees are friendly and very helpful. I will definitely continue to come back for some more fruit and mangonadas.

Yelp
Literally luv the food here but service is horrible ,staff members giving attitudes every-time I come to This place .unfortunately last time I come to This place such a shame new staff should be require.

Yelp
Very proud of this establishment. To be from Denver harbor, and having a mother who grew up in magnolia, it makes me proud to be able to see what is typically sold on a bicycle, be in a mini bodega. I had their mangonada, and it brought back so many memories of my childhood. Haven't visited the bario since moving to LA, so glad I did.

Yelp
Looking for some good Spanish desserts!? Well this is the spot to stop at! Never heard of a pickle-dilly until coming here, a snow cone with koolaid, pickle juice and pickle pieces, had my mouth watering sitting here typing about it. Was tasty and different. The TX pecan pie dessert was very tasty and fulfilled my sweet tooth. Banana caramel sundae is very tasty and on the lighter side of the intense sweetness if you are looking for a subtle sweet dessert. Mangonada was so refreshing and tasty. Everything I was able to try did not disappoint! The staff and owner provided amazing service, which just made my experience that much better. Go ahead and stop by!!! You won't regret it. Yelp

Yelp
Beautiful remodel with lots more indoor seating; wonderful homemade ice cream, sundaes, and treats!
google avatar

Ilse R.

Yelp
I love the Mexican snacks there a lots of chamoy and fresh fruit. I would like their elotes where fresh instead can that's my I give four stars instead of five. Everything's is awesome.

Manuel G.

Yelp
Service was so horrible......the staff member argue with me about my order because they got it wrong. Also my fruit was not sweet at all. My cup or corn tasted old.

Martha G.

Yelp
The service was horrible. I came in with my family the lady on staff argue back when I told her I didn't want something on my order. She like well that how it comes. She said what you want your money back? I said no I want it made the way I order it. Didn't ask for the disrespectful attitude.

Johana A.

Yelp
Love this place, nothing but nice PEPOLE here maybe because Ik most of them. But the ice cream they have here is amazing definitely recommend this place if your looking for something sweet!!

Francisco C.

Yelp
That was a great little find for a HOT Summer Day. They made me a banana split that was really good. They did it right with all the fixings.
google avatar

Yelp
Read about Magnolias in an East End advertisement and sought it out. Wow wow wow. Husband and I were so impressed! The kindness, the selection, the taste! I got a lemon strawberry concoction with lemon Italian ice drenched in strawberries and strawberry topping. Spouse got a fresh fruit cup. Prices were just right. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Valeria V.

Yelp
Great ice cream and candy selection. Do absolutely clean and the young ladies that waited on us were the best. You definitely get your money's worth
google avatar

Patti R.

Yelp
My favorite place for either a ice cream or a snow cone. Or the occasional bomb pop in July.
google avatar

martha b.

Yelp
frito pie ,hot dogs ,nachos and all the sweet treats plus you can drink a Mexican Coke ! everything this place has is delicious
google avatar

Bev B.

Yelp
Have only had the ice cream. It was delicious. We enjoy having a choice for desserts in this neighbourhood. There are lots of other choices with fruit. They all looked great.
google avatar

Sheniqua W.

Yelp
First time and I will be back!! We were out doing our usual drive through Eado and wanted a sweet treat. Somehow he found Magnolias and I'm soooo grateful. They are a true gem in this community. Treats: WATERMELON SLUSHIE made from real watermelon it was sooooo refreshing!!! Strawberry Thingy I had was super good i could have used a little less strawberry syrup but man the combinations are beautiful and delicious. Go as soon as you can and Thank Me Later.
google avatar

Carmen B.

Yelp
This was our go to spot for any cravings. Our favorite thing on the menu was "conchitas." Our last stop here was extremely disappointing when they told us they no longer have "cueritos ." This is what stood the place out in our opinion from any other refresqueria. They've changed other items from their menu and it is simply no longer worth the drive.

Veronica V.

Yelp
Mangonada - great Magnolia supreme - great Conchitas - great Elote - great The grinch - great Melón ice cream - great Aguas frescas - amazing!!! Yeah, I've been there a few times.
google avatar

scott t.

Yelp
Best mangonada in houston! This place is in the middle of no where, but i would recommend the drive. I got the mangonada deluxe size medium. It comes with three scoops of ice cream. I got two scoops of mango ice cream and one scoop of lime. the size small is pretty small so i would recommend the medium cup. The mango ice cream is really good. The mango chunks were super sweet. $5.50 for the medium
google avatar

Christina H.

Yelp
Definitely a hidden gem in southeast, best place to get your not so mainstream treats!

Scam Likly S.

Yelp
I remember I was stroking my shit to the ice cream to how good it was and very creamy and so many stuff to get.
google avatar

Lucy T.

Yelp
Omg if you are looking for everything chamoy, mango, tamarind, you name it, come here lol!! They have so many different options. So many different homemade ice cream flavors. A great mango ice to go with your awesome mangonada! All sorts of candy treats and snacks like frito pie with which ever chip you want. Hot dogs and corn in a cup. Just all the Mexican snack and sweet goodies you will want to try. We love their chamoy/tajin covered apples. You can even buy just fruits and a good aqua fresca. I've been here when it's not to busy but also other times when there's a long line. Customer service is good and fast, be ready to order when you get to the front of the line. Want to grab a treat and chat, they have tables. Not the biggest spot but sufficient. Limited parking, but if it's busy just follow what the other cars are doing. This spot is located across and a school.

Julian A.

Yelp
I traveled THIRTY MINUTES to get to this place because the product is good, however the one employees has a very, VERY bad attitude and a HIGHLY recommend you find a better place because I will NEVER come back to this place again, in facts, I would rather eat A mango with ice than go to this place.
google avatar

Veronica F.

Yelp
The best and most tucked away place. Was actually searching for just some fresh fruit to eat at the time. Customer service was awesome couldn't ask for more. Thank you Magnolia's your awesome. Will go back and recommend it's great
google avatar

Guadalupe H.

Yelp
Great for a hot day good hot food they have good prices Just both for here for my coworker
google avatar

Javie M.

Yelp
Delicious treats and ice cream. But the raspados are too frozen. You have to wait till it melts to have the right consistency to enjoy it... tastes great after it thaws for like 5-10 minutes, and their straws suck... literally they get flat when you use it. Not a bad place not perfect but tasty
google avatar

Ryan R.

Yelp
Great ice cream, fruit, and awesome customer service as well. Even better because it's in my neighborhood!
google avatar

Richard J.

Yelp
I have to credit Houstonia Magazine for putting this gem on my radar, because otherwise I would have never found it. Tucked on the corner of a side street at the edge of the Magnolia Park neighborhood in the East End is Magnolia's Ice Cream & More, a neighborhood shop featuring a broad variety of desserts with a distinct Mexican twist. From raspas to chamoy specialties to ice cream to special creations like a "strawberry bomb," Magnolia's offers such a broad set of choices that you'll be planning your next visit while still deciding what to order. I decided to sample two water-based ice cream flavors - mango and one of their strawberry options (there were several) - with fresh sliced mango on top, and it was a truly satisfying treat for a warm summer night. The shop also features a variety of candy, so I grabbed a 5-oz. container of dried mango fruta chilosito from Alamo Candy Co. in San Antonio, and let me tell you those treats offer a 1-2 punch of sweetness and a chili kick that keeps me coming back for more. The service was super friendly and patient with me, and I just loved the chilled laid-back family-friendly vibe of the place. It's quite a drive for me to get there, but I'm definitely going to return for more!

Leslie P.

Yelp
They have so many options to choose from! I love the place, customer service! They are always so nice and friendly and open to give suggestions! Love taking the kids here after school!
google avatar

Francisco P.

Yelp
Pretty good menu. A lot of epic choices and flavors to choose from. The pickles with kool aid are so good. Get them if you like sour things. Chamoy gummy bears are also good. And I recommend the koolaid dilly

Daysy M.

Yelp
Great customer service, clean tables and restrooms, food was delicious! Fast service and even offers small table games to play.
google avatar

Precious U.

Yelp
Loko cup, I switched the rainbow belt for a strawberry one and had them put a splash of pickle juice with chopped pickle pieces on the bottom. It was amazing! I loved how soft the ice was. I also liked that it had good flavor throughout the cone. You never really hit an area that tasted like a block of ice. It was the perfect mix of sour, sweet, and spicy. And what surprised me most (I was not mad at it either) was as you used the spoon to eat the cone, you sometimes got a sweet gummy bear surprise which helped reinforce that sweet and Mexican chile candy type spice. I loved it. So much so I brought my brothers back the next day to try it out and they raved about it as well. It's definitely not your basic snow cone. Your mouth will love you for it!

James W.

Yelp
Love this place we ran across it online and wanted to try them out when we got there I was so amazed at how many things you could get

Dora H.

Yelp
Go here all the time with my friends usually always order the same thing the one time they get my order wrong i have my friend paying for me so im kind of just upset my friend got double charged for my order. I clearly mentioned to them that they got my order wrong and they proceeded to ask me if that was fine i didn't want to seem like that customer asking for a refund i just kept the order hoping they'd offer me some solution i ate there not for so long and didn't really want to finish a whole other ice cream so i asked the cashier if i could just exchange it for a bag of chips so i could've actually taken it with me and finished but she involved the store owner and he proceeded to tell me that he could not offer me no type of solution. Im pretty upset since i come here all the time drive like 25 minutes to go here everytime and we love it but it sucks that they couldn't have the empathy to understand my situation dont think the drive is worth anymore to support a business owner like that its giving mr crab vibes
google avatar

Arcides B.

Yelp
This location is okay but the bigger store is my favorite. Love it thanks everyone All this items are the best especially the difference candy and ice cream they have but I'm not into ice cream it's just me not the store. But the drinks are the best the mango one it's soon good. Hot Cheetos with queso/fresh cheese is so good. And the corn it's the best queso in the middle and fresh cheese on top is the best.
google avatar

Karen M.

Yelp
Dropped in looking for a snack between homes on the Houston weird homes tour. What an amazing treat. My spouse went with a traditional banana split, my friend tried a mango fresas and I tried some lemon lime sherbet. I loved all of the options to add chamoy and tajin to our cold treats. We all thoroughly enjoyed our sweet treats and could not get over the extensive selections available! Clearly this is a popular spot- in our 20 minutes there, the line was always long, but the staff kept it moving quickly. Totally worth it.

Chloe D.

Yelp
Super rude customer service. The lady with black hair and small eyes pretty slim was extremely rude and unprofessional and inpatient for a FIRST TIME CUSTOMER. WOULD NEVER GO BACK AGAIN.
