Mai Thai Restaurant

Excellent! I highly recommend the Chicken Satay. It pairs so well with peanut sauce and the cucumbers and is DELICIOUS. The Pad Thai is yummy too, and so is the Basil Fried Rice although the basil isn’t as fragrant as other places (imo) but it was still good!! Yellow Curry tasted well too! The only downside was that the Tom Yum soup was a little salty.. but really really great customer service. Overall, really satisfied.

Best Austin local spot. Ran by a family this restaurant will hav e you thinking about it till the next time. I personally love the pineapple curry and cheese rolls. The pineapple curry has the perfect taste and spice every time. The Mai Thai noodles are also a classic as well as the red snapper. The red snapper heat and flavor is perfect. Honestly the best Thai around.

Neighborhood gem! Can't believe I haven't tried this place until this trip. I went in the middle of lunch rush but everyone there is super friendly. Looks like a family business. The food was so good and super reasonable. Highly recommended!!

A lovely little place for dinner. Our waitress was very attentive and answered all our questions about dietary needs. The food was delicious and was a great value; cooked fast too!

So good I went back for more! Pad Thai and Pad Kee Mao were a little on the sweet side but otherwise full of flavour and a generous portion size at a reasonable price ($16). Chilled vibe inside, friendly staff, TV plays some random feel-good video channel Bviral which was delightful to glance at.

We were in town for a work conference. We love Thai food and the reviews here were great. We were not disappointed. The flavor was great, the spice on point and the beer cold!! Great service as well.

Overall a good spot but service is currently lacking. They have a notice on the door they are short staffed but we wanted to try anyway. We ended up waiting a fair amount of time but are happy we did as the food was great! Still, if you’re in a hurry, you may want to consider somewhere else as of April 2024. As I mentioned, we all tried the egg rolls and a mix of food and we all enjoyed our dishes. We had Pad Pak, Mai Thai Noodles, and a peanut based dish I can’t remember the name of. I took a few pictures but unfortunately am realizing now they came out horrible. Oops!

Surprisingly better than expected. Pad ee siew was a reminiscent of beef kway teow. Great taste. Chicken fried rice was delicious too. Portion was on the bigger size by my asian standards. Would definitely come back for it.

6 pm on a Thursday and just 2 other tables occupied. The hostess greeted me warmly and quickly sat me. I went to my go-to favorite pineapple fried rice with Chicken ($17) and barely finished reading one news article by the time the food came out! The rice was very moist, as was the chicken. Getting the chicken right is highly unusual; usually it is dry at other places! This dish had a couple cherry tomatoes, which is also unusual. Not bad, but not preferred either. Too bad I live so far away-- this might be my most favorite pineapple fried rice ever! I will have to come back!

Best pad Thai in austin ! Their massaman curry is delicious too I love this place and so does my mom, we love coming here for our birthdays! Only issue is customer service since they usually seem understaffed unless you happen to catch them on a slow day.

I have gone to Mai Thai several times and always have a positive experience. The food is delicious with great portion sizes. The lemongrass noodles are my absolute favorite! Also, for a downtown location the prices are very reasonable. The food comes out promptly with very little hassle. If you come hungry, you will leave very satisfied! The decor isn't anything special but for high quality food I would definitely go!

Had a family dinner and the food was great and the staff was very professional. They were able to accommodate our large group.

Really remarkable restaurant. The pad se ew and pad Thai was pretty good. Even though there wasn't anything unique it was still delicious after having Tex mex food. In a decent location too very walkable from housing. Would go here again!

I took this to go so I really get the full experience however from what I saw the restaurant was quite cozy. I didn't have to wait long at all to get serviced. The wonton soup was 10/10 for sure. Probably one best I've ever had. I was surprised when I asked for crispy wonton that they didn't have any. Not sure if they didn't have any because they do it at all or they just were out. Now the chicken satay could have used a little more love. Though it was tender it was very bland to me. Nothing was special about it and the peanut sauce was very thick which I was not a fan of. I wouldn't scratch this off my list just because I didn't really try anything that was worth not coming back to when I'm in town.

Needed an early dinner place and Mai Thai was close to our hotel so we decided to check it out! We were seated immediately and there were only 1 or 2 tables there. Restaurant was a decent size and cozy. I loved the art on the wall. Server was very attentive, despite all the calls he had to answer and orders that he hand over for pickup. Potions were decent. I ate about half and took the other half to go (which was perfect for my late night dinner later that night hehe). We ordered the Mai Thai noodles and Pad Thai as well as the chicken wing appetizers. All the dishes came out nice and hot. I really liked my Pad Thai but wish I had ordered it a bit spicy (not sure if that's an option). Seems like street parking only but it's downtown and a walkable area.

Also you can make reservations on phone ahead of time. Definitely a good choice for special day celebration.

I was staying in the downtown area for a conference and ordered some Pad Kee Mao with tofu for takeaway. It was just okay. The noodles were nicely cooked and the veggies (bell peppers, onions, broccoli) were fresh, but the dish lacked flavor. Pad kee mao is supposed to be at least moderately spicy, and the menu listed it with two out of three possible chili symbols, but I barely tasted any spiciness at all. The Thai iced tea tasted good, but it was extremely, extremely sweet- even for Thai iced tea. On the plus side, the service was very nice, and it only took me about 10 minutes to get my order. 2.5* rounded up

Great food! Service was fast and very friendly. They took my order for brown rice however had ran out/ didn't have any, so I received white rice instead. The spice level wasn't very high even though we asked for the spiciest level, which is the only reason I wouldn't give it a 5 star review. Ambience was very pleasant

Family owned restaurant, service and people are very sweet. Unfortunately the food price is too high for the quality. I ordered the vegan green curry fried rice, great flavor! But no veggies! Only comes with green beans and tofu. Very plain. But if that's your jam then this place is for you!

I think no matter where you live, you got to have a local Thai spot to hit those unique curry & noodle cravings. Luckily, Mai Thai is nearby and is able to satisfy them. I'll preface by saying that we have only ordered to-go from Mai Thai. I can't speak to the ambience or service, but I will say that our food is always ready when it's time for us to arrive. I'll also say that we have really only ordered our Thai favorites: Pad Thai and Yellow Curry. Sometimes we'll add a Thai tea or Thai coffee, and occasionally a Mango Sticky Rice for dessert. Mai Thai delivered on all these dishes. The Pad Thai has a good mix of ingredients and great flavor. The yellow curry has a very generous portion size and lasts us multiple meals. The curry does run thinner than some others I've tried, but personally I don't mind. It tastes delicious (especially if you pour it on the Pad Thai noodles mmmm...). Mai Thai is also very consistent. We must be ordering from here at least once a month. Never did we have a problem with late preparation, and the food has always been the same level of quality.

Found this hole-in-the-wall mom & pop Thai restaurant for lunch. The pad kee mao was really good- a perfect heat! A lot of Austin's decent Thai food seems to come from food trucks, so discovering Mai Thai felt like a win. The restaurant is near the convention center and was quite busy at noon. The service was fine, given they had only a few servers who were quite attentive.

Small little place, but very inviting, clean and modern. Staff was friendly. I ordered dumplings. They're pretty good. I especially like the small crunch you get inside them, makes it a little different than the norm. The sauce is really good too. I also order massamaun. It was very flavorful, the chicken it is flavored well, not too spicy. They give a decent amound of chicken in it also. Pad peanut sauce is okay. Im used to Pra Ram having a thicker peanut sauce consistency, almost like gravy on the veggies/stir fry. This was more like a soup or curry. Not bad, just different. Not as much of a peanut flavor as I was hoping though. They have a pretty decent wine list My only con, is the massauman was a tad bit too salty and i got 2 potatoes.

Mai Thai has some of the best Thai food I have ever had. My husband and I got the pad Thai and yellow curry, both with tofu and they were amazing. Especially the yellow curry! We also got the crispy spring rolls and fried tofu and both were great. We are both vegan and they were happy to accommodate. Lots of vegan options! Service was great. If we lived in Austin, we would frequent here.

Nice place. They did have a sign indicating it would be a wait due to short staff. I had the Mai Thai egg rolls. I forgot it said there was pork skin in the egg roll. Didn't like that but the rest of the egg roll was delicious. The Pad Thai was a little too wet for me but it had good flavor and the chicken breast was cut nicely. I really should have gotten glass noodles but I wanted to stay with something I was familiar with. It was a lot of food and of course I didn't even eat half of it.

This is hands-down my favorite place for green curry in Austin. Since I'm not a fan of parking downtown if I can help it, I'm so glad that I can get delivery through UberEats. My curry was overloaded with chicken, so they definitely don't skimp on the protein here. I personally could go for less protein and more vegetables, especially the eggplant. I asked for the brown rice option, which I believe is actually a type of black rice, speckled and with just the right amount of chewiness. I highly recommend both the Green Curry and the "Brown" Rice. I also ordered Tom Kha, the coconut soup with lemongrass, which was also delicious, and unlike most restaurants, they don't charge extra for choosing the shrimp option. A definite plus. I recommend ordering the large size as you will want leftovers later. Although I normally don't order egg rolls, I got the Mai Thai Egg Rolls, which are pork and vegetable. They were well-stuffed and nicely fried, and served as a great lunch the next day after a quick crisping in the oven. Don't miss out on this gem. Not only is their food excellent, but well-priced for the quality, especially for downtown, and they are open 7 days a week.

Service was fast and portions were big. Ordered a bunch of dishes and shared family style. Loved the Kao Soi! Tables were clean and orderly

We ordered lettuce wraps, chicken wings, dumplings, Thai tea and pad Thai with chicken and tofu. They forgot about the pad Thai and we tried several times to remind them but they appeared short staffed which negatively impacted the service. The ambiance was nice and cozy. I'd definitely give them another chance to see if our experience was a one off.

It was good. I had the pad Thai and it was Saucey but better than expected. Definitely would come back again to try other items. Good service and nice staff. They were prompt and helpful with questions and extra items like chopsticks and napkins or refills.

Found this amazing little hole in the wall. On my way to the convention center after having not eaten for almost 12 hours. You typically can't go wrong with Thai food and this place is exactly the same. Got the old standby chicken pad Thai and it did not disappoint. It's not very big, it's not very fancy, but the food came out, piping hot, fresh, and the portion was way more than one person needed. I've had the same dish at multiple restaurants, and I must say this is one of the best variationS!

I try to go to Mai Thai once or twice a month for lunch. It's really that good. They do a great job of getting the food out in a respectful amount of time. My favorite item on the menu is the lettuce wraps. These aren't your standard lettuce wraps, try them to see. The Tom yum, pad see, pad thai, chicken wings, papaya salad are all great as well. Enjoy your visit!

The sign posted says they have a staffing shortage, which was true, but the food was worth the wait. Pad Woon Sen with pork was flavorful, pork was juicy and tender and vegetables crisp. Staff was very helpful and friendly, despite being run ragged by a capacity dinner crowd. I recommend you be patient or order take out.

Upon arrival we're seated immediately, the place was busy, but not too busy. The server was polite and engaging. The food was decent, not the best I have had, but good enough. I had the Yellow Curry, did not care for the pineapple, but overall was tasty. I would eat here again.

Red Snapper and Pad Sew Ew. Great food. And great service. Everyone was on their own little worlds and it felt comfy. Casual feel. For what we both had and a couple beers and a glass of wine was about $50.

What an absolute gem! Consistent, fresh, tasty, and creative! The opposite of most of the garbage that's out today. Love it!

A simple eat in set up is adorned by a combination of local artwork and Thai nicknacks. They have one tv and a wine shelf, but I saw some people having some fruity drinks, too. Your auditory senses may be overwhelmed and confused by the combo of radio and television with kitchen and patron chatter. My server was nice and efficient. I'd probably go back just for her if I'm in the area. One of my favorite foods is eggplant. Chinese eggplant in particular. They have it on the menu! I ordered it with no onions (allergy) but spicy and with chicken. It comes with rice. The rice was not Thai. It tasted like heavy basmati. That's not bad, it just isn't great. The chicken was ground, which was a little odd texturally. And it had peanuts- I think it was meant for the pad Thai. They don't have chili oil, so I got chili paste instead. Again, not bad, but it is not what I wanted or ordered. The dish was not spicy as much as vínigary. It's fine. It's near ACC. It's hot, quick, and you can sit inside or outside.

Wife and I tried this for the first time since we were craving Thai for the Lunar New Year 2022 (Year of the Tiger). Since we were ordering delivery on a busy night, and since my wife wanted Chu-Chi salmon, we went with Mai Thai, since many of the Thai restaurants that have salmon dishes, didn't offer it for delivery (strange). We saw the positive reviews and sounded like a great alternate Thai place to have versus our regular go to. Pad Thai wasn't bad and little better than some of my other go to places. Not spicy enough. We ordered shrimp for most of the plate meat options, since wife was craving shrimp. They did not disappoint. There was plenty of nice large shrimp in each dish. The wife's Chu-Chi salmon wasn't bad, but not as good as the other places. Sauce was more sweet than hot. We did enjoy the Mai Thai Red Snapper dish. Although it was deep fried, it was still tasty, but little too much grease. Same went with the Eggplant Delight. Dish was very tasty, not as spicy as we wanted, and could have used less oil. Would have liked to give the place 5 starts, since all the dishes were yummy, but two things brought it down a notch. 1.) All the dishes had more oil than we were used to in Thai dishes. My wife's comment was that it was too greasy. You could see the extra oil. 2.) Dishes that claimed to be spicy, really were not. When we asked for more spice, it never was there. Sometimes that is the fault of the delivery app, since this one you had to request it in comments, which restaurants often overlook from my past experiences. Otherwise, really decent place I recommend for anyone craving decent Thai food near the down town Austin area.

Went here for a quick thai food fix for takeout. Ordered a red curry with jasmine rice and a pad kee mao + thai iced teas. The curry was good, but had a lot of vegetables in it and the pad kee mao had a good flavoring, but oily. What really contributed to this positive experience was the staff. They were so kind about substitutions and adjustments to the dishes understanding our restrictions in what we could eat. Note that a lot of thai curries/noodles tend to have fish sauce or shrimp paste, so be sure to ask about that before placing your order if it is of concern. Would return to grab more thai eats and see the friendly staff again :)

Mai Thai was exactly what I needed on a cold and rainy afternoon. The food is super authentic, none of that fancy Americanized thai. Service was also very attentive. I was there on a work trip but if I lived there this would definitely become one of my go-to places!

Too salty for noodles and soups. The meat has no flavor in overall wouldn't recommend

After a jaunt on Rainey Street, we scootered over to Mai Thai to satisfy a Thai craving. They were on their last 30 min of being open, but we were warmly welcomed and taken care of quickly. There were several groups still dining in, but our food still came out in a good amount of time. To start, the Pad Thai is probably my favorite in Austin (haven't had a TON yet, but still very impressive). I generally like a little more sweet/thick sauce and this Pad Thai was perfect if that's your style. It was so good, but also a lot of food so I ended up taking some home afterword. My boyfriend got the Basil Fried Rice, and he also really liked it (cleaned his plate). The only note about this dish is that the smell reminded me a little of pizza (because of the basil, I guess?). He wants to try another kind of fried rice next time to compare. The only other comment was that I tired their Thai tea which was just ok. I generally like a more sugary flavor than what I had here. Overall, nice wait staff, great Pad Thai, and we will be back! Yum!

My husband and I stopped here for dinner before a show. I have a gluten and dairy intolerance which can make it hard to eat out in general. I had looked at the Mai Thai menu before coming here to know I could enjoy a good Thai dinner. I ordered the green curry with a seafood combo and brown rice thai spicy. I love that brown rice was not your normal brown rice and it was served in the shape of a heart. My meal was good and flavorful. I did not find it spicy at all but my husband did. Note, I have been to Thailand before and made jungle curry in a cooking class with 40 Thai peppers and ate every last drop. So I know Thai food and I know spice. My husband ordered the duck curry with brown rice and regular spice. He thought he was good and it was the right amount of spice for him. Overall a decent Thai place downtown.

I came in for lunch and ordered chicken satay (a Thai staple) and a chicken stir fry. The Satay may have been the worse that Ive ever had. It came cold, thin and dry. It was a fairly busy lunch so impossible to get anyone to talk to about it. They were short staffed and paid no attention to me after taking my order and bringing the food to my table. The stir fry, although a bit overpriced for the quantity given) was average at best. Very disappointing! I'll look for another Thai restaurant for lunch in Austin the next time I'm in town.

We have unique tastes in Thai Food, and have a go to place when we are home in San Jose. Mai Thai was very good. It's a casual Thai place, we started with the Tom Yum soup which was super nice and tasty. Went on to the eggplant with chicken spicy (which was wonderfully spicy). An then the seafood prang puk. Overall very good food, fast service and nice environment. Good place when craving Thai food.

One of my go-to restaurants whenever I'm in town. I usually get the spring rolls with tofu, tom kha soup with tofu, and massamun curry with tofu, all delicious and quick.

Solid but unremarkable Thai food. The chicken Satay was lacking in flavor suggesting it was not properly marinated. I followed it with Beef Pad Kra Prao that was nicely done with right amount of heat. My wife had Chicken Pad Prik King that was really nice and liked that we could get brown rice. The setting is functional but basic.

Was on a work trip in Austin and this spot just happened to be close to the hotel. Great for dine-in or takeout and the food is spot on. I ordered the red curry with chicken and it was exactly what I was hoping for. The portion sizes are generous and they don't skimp on the spice - I asked for very spicy, and they definitely delivered. I'll definitely come back here next time I'm in town.

Will be back! We tried the Khao Soi, vegetarian egg rolls, and Tom Kha soup and the flavor of all were great. They even subbed out tofu for us in the chicken dish and it had great texture. The staff was super nice, although a little busy. We were driving south for Thai and now we're happy that we can get a great meal closer by! Update: I came back in and tried the Pad Kee Mao and subbed tofu. It was delicious and, and once again, the staff was super sweet.

I ordered the brown gravy stir fry dish and it was just okay. A typical asian oyster sauce and soy sauce "gravy". Service was quick and fast. Got seated right away. I think the food could have been better, but it was lack luster in my opinion. Nothing on the menu seemed unique or really authentic thai either. Just your typical thai restaurant. Not a bad thing, but if they had competition that tasted better nearby, I think this place wouldnt hit the mark.

Came to the downtown area straight from the airport, starving. Mai Thai did not disappoint. Portions are generous and tasty.

4.5 stars. i've tried lots of thai places in austin and many of them are not authentic or good. mai thai is a solid restaurant. their pad thai is really tasty. the egg rolls are delicious, i always get a double order. chicken satay is not bad, i just wish the chicken had a more grilled flavor. i would stay away from the crab fried rice, too fishy tasting. i need to try their curries next time :)

Solid Thai downtown! Their curries are the best, most consistent dish they offer. The green and massamaun curries are both delicious! The pad thai is a little hit or miss, sometimes it's great and other times just ok.

Ordered it off uber eats, and it was super good! Flavor of the dish was very good but the chicken was a bit dry. Also very hefty portions, definitely enough for two meals. Also got the thai tea and it was amazing! not too sweet and more herbal than most places make it. Definitely will be going to eat at the location one day!

Great fast tasty Thai food. Highly recommend this place. The green curry chicken and red pineapple curry chicken were excellent.
