Minimalist outpost for fresh & cured seafood small plates & sandwiches, plus craft beers.
"When you’re “meeting someone for a drink,” you often have very little idea how your night is going to play out. You could hit it off, or you could awkwardly talk about the weather and TikTok’s influence on the food scene for 45 minutes before someone makes up an excuse to leave. It’s stressful. Which is why you need a place that will mitigate that stress. Enter Maiden Lane, a bar that’s particularly good at just being a normal bar—with whitefish dip, lots of tinned seafood, and a sidewalk patio." - team infatuation
"There are dive bars, and there are cocktail bars. Sometimes, it's hard to find the in-between: a normal bar. Maiden Lane is one of these places. This spot—just north of Tompkins Square Park—is where you can get a beer/shot combo or a cocktail that won’t cost $22. The setting is nice without feeling overly fancy, and you could easily have a first date or a friend group hang here. Even better news? They serve a bunch of tinned fish that you can snack on." - bryan kim, kenny yang, neha talreja, will hartman
"Don’t take your date to a dive bar. You’re better than that. And even if you aren’t, at least try to hide this fact until the third or fourth date. Maiden Lane is a small, welcoming bar on a corner in Alphabet City, and it has some good seafood-oriented small plates. This is the sort of place where you can hang out for five minutes or five hours. So if you’re already talking about the weather by minute number four, you know what to do." - bryan kim, katherine lewin
"Maiden Lane might be the closest thing New Yorkers can find to a classic Southern European conserveria, but in its own very New York way. Directly across from Tompkins Square Park, the bustling corner is home to its own Tin Shop. The selection features a nice blend of reasonably priced European and North American tinned seafood products, from sardines to razor clams. Tins can be purchased to pop at home, in the park, or consumed at one of the bar’s sidewalk tables. Diners can also wash their seafood down with a $4 draft beer or $25 bottle of wine." - David Neimanis
"Maiden Lane is an Alphabet City bar that’s perfect for some casual day drinking. It’s friendly, there are plenty of windows, and they do a handful of seafood small plates. It feels like a real neighborhood spot, and we suggest you come here with friend or two early in the night." - Katherine Lewin
