On the Grid : Maison Assouline

"The huge, old Hauser + Wirth gallery is now filled to the brim with books and curiosities. With a bar against the far-wall serving champagne, an in-house bespoke bookbinder, a stand selling vintage rarities of publishing and a remarkable collection of antiques and oddities — stepping into Maison Assouline has an air of visiting an eccentric collector’s drawing room rather than a publisher’s flagship store." - dn&co.

Such a great bookstore with elegant interior. Very nice place to go for coffee table books with excellent artwork. There is also a cafe / bar inside where you can sit for a drink in a luxurious and quiet setting. Seating is limited, so reservations are recommended. A great place to take a break from the hectic street outside.

A gem with a twist, we arrived and greeted by the kind lovely Felix. The surroundings are beautiful and there are so many things to see. The books, the candles. Felix took us to our table and recommended the cocktails. Which were both creative and full of flavour. Prices are higher, but they're worth the quality. A great team work here, and I would recommend a visit they go above and beyond in the care and service. Making your visit special

My friend fionce is from Paris. They came to London to visit me couple of months ago. They said ,They were passing towards Piccadilly from Green park side. They then recognised this place it was written in French. Then popped in and discovered that this was a nice cocktail bar with loads of travel books which seems a bit different concept to them. Then they gave it a go to try. They liked it.Then they took me there couple of months ago.I loved the place and concept. Then I got my guests from my country and wanted to take them here just for them to discover different place then usual ones. They loved it this place also. Basically,Every single snacks, cocktails they served and provide such a lovely concept was amazing experience for them as well as me. I highly recommend this place who is foodie and cocktail lover. You won’t be regret. Highly recommended

The greatest bartenders in the city! Such a wonderful hidden gem to come across and the bar itself is exceptional if you're a literacy nerd.

The place to go for coffee table books with immaculate artwork. The curation of books is absolutely beautiful with the selection offering an interesting array of collectible books. There is also a bar inside where you can sit for a drink in a luxurious and quiet setting.

Lovely atmosphere. Quickly served, and coffee well presented. But for me very expensive for a couple of cups of coffee and a small biscuit. Also added a service charge !

Meanwhile en route to the Royal Academy, we chanced upon Maison Assouline on Piccadilly. This temple of premium coffee table books looks as good as it feels! Their collection is as fine as it gets. Stunning. Gorgeous. Exquisite. All housed in this two level emporium designed to seduce. You’re invited to peruse and enjoy. The staff behind the counter was very welcoming. His greeting was warm and genuine. In the corner is Swans Bar….we did not venture in but it looked tasteful. The entire showroom was definitely well curated and those coffee table books are screaming to be bought!

The cocktail bar is fabulous! Surrounded by very cool books, tge bartender made one of the best Old Fashioned's I've had in London. Pricey, but worth it. Great selection of whiskey. And super friendly. We'll definitely come back!

Yelp
Ok, I want to give this place 6 stars!! I came across it accidently and the only reason we came here was because we happened to be walking by it on our way to someplace else and had a few minutes to kill... thank God we did! We ended up going back again the day before we left London because we loved it so much. Hard to explain... "Bookstore / Bar" but when I say SEXY VIBE, believe me! It is the perfect place for a date (especially if your date is an intellectual!) Have a cocktail and small plates, then walk around and bask in the FABULOUSNESS that is the bookstore!! We ended up buying 3 books. Not cheap (about $105 American and up) but soooo beautiful and great conversation starters as coffee table books!!

Yelp
This is a very cool bookstore and cocktail bar right on Piccadilly. The bar snacks are excellent too! We really enjoyed the Aviation Rosa and the Burnt Mandarin Negroni. The books are amazing and worth a good browse

Yelp
There aren't words... A delightful location with beautiful cocktails. Ask for Felix! He is a master at cocktail concoctions and he is exactly what you would hope for in such a special place!!

Yelp
It's an interesting setting and the staff are friendly. But, once you move beyond those points the value you are getting for what you pay is to the downside. I may return for a coffee. But, beyond that choice, the prices don't justify the quality of the food.

Yelp
Hmm interesting place that James Bond would probably frequent. One of the descriptions says "Objets d'curiosite" or something like that, and I think that puts it well. Large custom atlases, bound in plexiglass covers, artifacts from around the world... animal skin decoration... I don't know what to say except you're stepping into a unique world.

Yelp
Very pretty and £ bookstore. I never noticed the bar! That aside, they have an interesting selection. Worth checking out if in the area for drinks or to browse the books.

Yelp
Maison Assouline is located in an old bank located on Piccadilly. This is a flagship store for the book publisher Assouline. I was looking for a specific book published by Assouline which they did not carry in the store. The associate really was not interested in finding it for me. I found the book at Hatchards locates down the street. The store is unique and beautiful. The Swan Bar is small but gorgeous and is located on the main floor of the store. The service is moderately attentive and the champagne was served in a coupe glass (a big no-no...a sommelier will tell you it is the worst glass to serve champagne in for a litany of reasons. Wine connoisseurs will also state olives are too piquant for champagne and should instead be served with almonds, pistachios, cashews or something with cheese...who manages this bar?!) but it is a nice spot for a quick, peaceful break from the massive crowds of shoppers on Piccadilly. Service charge was included. www.assouline.com

Yelp
It's expensive -- £6 for a cup of tea. But I was looking for a quiet, elegant spot in c London to engage in some reading, and this was just the ticket. The music is jazzy, the cups are stunning, and I was treated honourably by the staff. It makes you feel important. Even the carpets make your feet feel like royalty.

Yelp
This place is *magic*. I almost, almost, don't want to share Maison Assouline with a larger audience. But I'm a generous type, so here goes: This is labeled as a 'bookshop' but it's really much much more than that. It's almost a lifestyle 'concept' store (I KNOW, I'M EYEROLLING FROM MY OWN TERMINOLOGY, TOO!) but without the pretension. Maison Assouline is the flagship location of the Parisian publisher. The space itself is, at street level, something you could easily pass by in the hustle bustle of Piccadilly Circus. But don't. Step inside and it opens up to a 2.5 level (the top level is small and attic-like) shop with displays of books and a cafe/bar on the main floor, and art pieces and knick-knacks artfully displayed throughout. The books are beautiful: big picture books that are so large and weighty they have their own 'Assouline'-branded stands. The space is perfectly perfumed. Soft music from an Iranian performer is piped through the room. Truly; every element is...to quote my friend..."spot...on". A special note for the bar, impressively stocked with wines, spirits, and *perfect* cocktails. There were roughly five signature cocktails on offer, and the manhattan was the best version I have ever tested. The daiquiri was nowhere close to the unappealing versions I've had in the past; which is to say, it was tart with grapefruit and lime, and only slightly sweetened with gomme syrup. 12GBP/per. Yelp note: watch the hours, here! Although there's a bar, it closes at 9pm. Reservations recommended.

Yelp
A bookstore, bar and interior design all in one. Love the multi use concept. Most unique bar I've step foot into yet. Definitely a must see if you're in the Piccadilly area...and they have cocktails when none of these other pubs do. Winning!!!!

Yelp
I was refused coffee and tea. They said it's cause a small place and they only serve hot drinks until 5:30. Must be North Korea or something because no BRITISH establishment would refuse tea!!
