Here Are the Hottest New Restaurants in the East Bay, June 2024

"East Bay dwellers looking for a French treat on this side of the bridge can now head to Danville bakery Maison Benoit, which opened in early January. The space is led by a head baker from Paris and a pastry chef from Bordeaux, so expect expertly-made croissants, pain Suisse, caneles, tarts, and more. The lineup also includes baguettes, sandwiches, and quiches, which go nicely with a cup of coffee." - Dianne de Guzman

The Best Bakeries in the East Bay | Eater SF

"Maison Benoit made a splash in Danville for its French bakery offerings, courtesy of a head baker and pastry chef who both hail from France. The baguettes are a favorite, but so are the sweet offerings, such as an almond pain au chocolat — yes, you read that correctly — and slices of mille-feuille. Maison Benoit is also the place to get traditional French cakes, such as a whole Paris-Brest or Saint Honore, perfect for spoiling someone on a special occasion." - Dianne de Guzman

Great croissants, breads and pastries. Probably the best I had in US so far. Very happy with the existence of this place. The guy that takes order could be little nicer .. it’s not Paris amigo. Edit 7/18/2025 Unfortunately the quality dropped. Service is rude, cortado absolutely awful - just a lazy approach of throwing some milk on two shots. Tried kouign Amman - nothing like the one in Breton, very bad, barely possible to bite it. Stick to the croissants which are still really good! I will be back as I am glad this place exists, but staff needs some training as they treat it like a highschool playground.

I’ve been living in Danville for 3 years and only found this hidden gem last week. After my trip to France last year I was sad coming back to the U.S. since I missed French pastries. What an unexpected happiness it was when I found this spot! It’s exactly as delicious as in France, the staff are beyond nice and the ambience is lovely.

Google
I came to try a few pastries and what they had available on my list were the Chocolate Almond Croissant and a Canele. Both were good and not too sweet! I would like to return and try other pastries and breads. Recommend! They do speak French here!

Busy bakery both customer and counter support. The line moves along well. The croissants are superb!! Flaky, crispness and buttery all in one.

It was my first time visiting, and I had a wonderful experience! The bakery is charming, with a cozy atmosphere that’s perfect for spending time with friends. We ordered a variety of items, including dessert, coffee, hot chocolate, a veggie quiche, and a breakfast plate. The food was delicious, and the quality exceeded expectations. Everything was prepared quickly, which was a nice surprise. The outdoor dining area is an added bonus, allowing for a relaxed and pleasant experience, especially on a nice day. Overall, it’s a great spot to enjoy good food, great company, and a welcoming environment. I’ll definitely be back!

Busting little cafe with cute decor. Highly recommend the quiches, caneles, and croissants. Quiches are hearty and the salmon one had a lot of fish. The caneles and kouign amanns both have satisfyingly crunchy bottoms and soft delicate insides. Sandwiches are mostly bread but the ingredients are high quality and yummy. Coffee and matcha are fine but not exceptional. Come early because the croissants tend to sell out!

Google
The food here is fantastic, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Same goes for the coffee menu. The staff are friendly, helpful, and fun to talk to. I’ve only been twice so far but my favorites have been the amazing challah bread (Fridays only), croissants, baguettes, and the banoffee pastry (sooo amazingly delicious). Every time I go back I try something new and I am thrilled every time!

I often head to Maison Benoit for informal business meetings. Outdoor seating area is great on a nice sunny morning. But the main attraction is the pastries. They are so good. I’ve tried many of them and never had something I haven’t liked. Also, their coffee is nice and strong. It can get really busy on weekends, but that’s a testament to their excellent food.

Yelp
Food was great! We had to wait a little longer than expected for our warm food but the servers were very nice. Recommend the ham cheese quiche

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. We drove up on a Thursday morning and got the parking space right in front. You know you're gonna have a good experience when that happens! So we step out of the car and the smell coming from all the windows that are thrown open is absolutely intoxicating. It smells like you're gonna have a great time! Once it inside, the cases are bursting with the most beautiful pastries, sandwiches, quiches, desserts and breads. We of course, had to order their famous butter croissant and was not disappointed at how delicious it tasted and so amazingly great we couldn't understand that! We also got a kouign amann which tasted in incredible. A Croque Monsieur sandwich that was huge and delicious and a sandwich with the fancy name that I can't remember, but it basically had pork in it and it was so yummy. We had a drip coffee as a decaf latte which was also hot and well. It was so fun sitting in the open window area facing the busy Danville Street. I absolutely love this place and highly recommend it.

Yelp
The quality and variety of Maison Benoit's baked goods made me so happy. I wish I lived closer to get a baguette tradition every day. I experienced patient and attentive service, and was made to feel welcome. My only complaint would be that there isn't more room in the indoor and outdoor seating areas. But this also tells me that I am just one of many pleased customers.

Yelp
I'm glad I don't live near here or my health would be at risk.. The food here is gorgeous. I asked one of the employees to take a tart out of the case so I could take a picture of it and she told me she made it. It was stunning. I had a custard and hazelnut and chocolate pastry and it was sinful.

Yelp
They just won the best SF croissant, but before you become silly and take extraordinary efforts to come, let me save you. Their croissants are softer, less hefty. While crispy, it is not earth-shatteringly so. When bitten into, it gives off fragile flakes rather than crunchy shards. It has way less flavor development than that from the tops players. There are plenty of croissants I love over these. But they are cheaply priced @$3.75. I usually love cream puffs, so I am surprised that I am not into their Marquise given the raves. The pastry cream is thicker and less flavorful than I am used to. The worst thing I had here was the $14 Ham and Cheese Croissant (warmed). Even if it is priced normally @$7, I would prefer most sandwiches and Banh Mi over this... and Arsicault's Ham and Cheese Croissant is way better at half-price. The best thing I had here was the Almond Pain au chocolat (Almond Chocolate Croissant). The almond paste is not too sweet, nice and ooey. But do I like it enough to come again? No. I much prefer B. Patisserie's crave-worthy Chocolate Banana Croissant. I like that one completely cooled when the chocolate re-solidifies, so you are biting into the crunch of chocolate against oozing banana. The staff here is a big high-school hangout. If you order anything complicated, don't expect much. Expect much wait.

Yelp
Cute French bake shop with cute vibes! Came in to pick up a few baked goods to bring to a work meeting. My favorite out of all of them was the almond croissant by far. Lots of almond paste, flakey and sticky and oh so good. The regular croissant was also really good but pretty standard. I went in on a weekday morning so it wasn't packed!

Yelp
Probably the softest and most buttery croissants I've ever had - it's super flakey so it can get pretty messy. The croissants are reasonable price but a few of the other items were pricey, I.e. ham and cheese croissants. We got a few things to share - the garlic bread was just ok, it was bit tough and not super garlicky, would have been nice if it had butter too. The ham and cheese ROLL was decent, the outer layer was a bit tough but the center was very moist and soft. The American pie was great, it's pretty much a fruit tart. The chocolate croissants were really good, again, flakey, buttery and soft. Will need to come back and try other pastries but from what I tasted, the star of the show were the croissants.

Yelp
So sad because I left highly disappointed. I've been wanting to try their award winning croissants but unfortunately they were already sold out (around 11:15am) which I specifically came in for. Ended up getting the goat cheese and walnut roll, garlic bread, and pain au chocolat. They did not taste fresh like they've been sitting out for awhile. On top of that, service was not friendly. All the workers seemed like they did not want to be there. From the person who took my order down to the cashier. Not welcoming at all. I don't think I'll be back.

Yelp
Oh boy, this place is trouble. I can't stop by here without indulging in all the deliciousness. First time I visited was in January 2024. Place was packed, came back a couple more times July 2025, still super long lines on the weekends, during the week, not so bad. It looks like they won the "2025 Best Croissant S.F." award. Well deserved. They make their pastries in-house, in a cute little bakery on one side of the store surrounded by glass walls which allows you to see what's cookin', and smell the delicious buttery goodness. They have a nice variety of bistro sandwiches, pastries, desserts, coffees and teas. So far my favorite is the cafe eclair - oooh la la. Makes me feel like I'm back in Paris!

Yelp
Great coffee and pastries in downtown Danville This place offer good croissants, coffee and the service was amazing. The line was long but move fast. I got the chocolate croissant since they ran out of the regular one. Not the best that I had but met the standard. My friend got the brioche chocolate which was good. They warmed up the pastries which was amazing Again, I'm impressed with the service and love the vibe here. Definitely the must visit in Danville downtown

Yelp
Oh boy, this place is busy. It's also a 30 minute drive from my place but I will have to say it was worth it. I'm on a mission to find the best chocolate croissants in the Bay Area and these are a top contender so far. At least it's way better than the ones I got from forma 2 weeks ago. I was afraid of things selling out so I placed an order the night before. The website is super easy to navigate. When I got there around 11am there was a big line out the door. I walked in and asked someone where I could pick up and they brought me to a register where a nice young man got me my prepacked boxes of croissants. I got home and warmed it up just a touch and yum - it's flakey and soft without feeling too bready, just the way I like them. The chocolate croissant has just enough chocolate without it being too messy or overtaking the rest of the pastry. Prices are also fairly reasonable. There's cute little seating everywhere. Will definitely make the drive to restock my croissant stash on a weekly basis.

Yelp
We came here after hearing about their victory at the SF Best Croissant competition. We've previously tried last year's winner Junipers and so were excited to try Maison Benoit. We had the Classic croissant, Parisian sandwich, a canele, apple tart, and the spinach quiche. The standouts were the croissant and the Parisian. The croissant was crispy and buttery without feeling heavy/greasy. The baguette for the Parisian was crunchy on the outside with a fantastic chew on the inside, one of the best Parisian sandwiches I have had in a long time. The price was also very reasonable as well. Service was a bit slow on a Tuesday morning. Big line despite it being a weekday, I can only imagine how much busier this place can be on the weekends. The hold up from what I can tell was at the ordering counter. I think the huge selection gives pause to just about everyone, so it takes some time to get orders in. The inside of the cafe was very cute and clean, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating available. Street parking only so get there early. Highly recommend checking out Maison Benoit!

Yelp
Arrived on a Saturday morning at 10:30am and waited ~35 min. Plenty of outdoor and indoor seating - extended menu of pastries, bread, sandwiches and drinks! Sadly only plain croissants available at the time. The plain croissant had nice layers and good flavor, i appreciated how all the pastries here are not overly buttery and greasy like most places. The texture is however not crunchy but soft and pillowy. The garlic bread was subpar, bread needed some toast and more flavor. The pecan cookie was delightful. The choquettes were eggy and nice even without filling - pairs well with coffee. The country loaf was nicely baked and had fluffy interior. Overall wouldn't quite go out of my way to come here but definitely still stop by if in the area!

Yelp
Let me tell you...it is as good as they say!!! Line was about 30 minutes wait. I felt I had to order a regular croissant to test how good it is. One of THE best croissants I've had. Perfect flake on the outside while moist on the inside. Slight sweetness from the butter. Sublime!!! I got to the front at 10:45am and they ran out of all the almond and almond chocolate croissants. So I got the regular and the chocolates for my boys. I also ordered the house made chai because I had to try. Didn't disappoint very spice forward, how I like it, and perfect sweetness.

Yelp
Ive never actually been inside, so I can't speak to the ambiance or service, but the pastries OMG bomb. I've tried the chocolate croissant, the chocolate & almond croissant, the almond croissant and apple pastry and each one delivered. The croissants are perfectly flaky and not overly sweet. My favorite is the chocolate & almond croissant. The almond paste is heavenly, and mixed with the chocolate it's superb. You honestly can't go wrong with anything here!
google avatar

Alyssa D.

Yelp
Was quite disappointed after waiting in line for about 15 minutes. The chocolate croissant with brownie inside was yummy, so was the chocolate almond croissant- but personally I don't think they should be called croissants, on account that they were missing the crucial flakiness of a croissant. They were more like sweet soft breads. The cannelés - you can tell from the picture that the two are different colors (inconsistent baking?). Neither of them had the crispy/crunchy/caramel-y crust a cannelé should have. They were soggy and kind of greasy. The shop was extremely busy and maybe that's why the staff weren't really friendly. It sure left something to be desired.

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Maison Benoit, and I can confidently say it's a hidden gem! From the moment I stepped inside, the warm, inviting aroma of freshly baked goods enveloped me, instantly making my mouth water. The selection here is incredible. They offer everything from buttery croissants and decadent chocolate eclairs to a variety of artisan breads and custom cakes. I decided to try their Pear Pastry and it was hands down the best I've ever tasted--light, flaky and bursting with fresh Pears. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, happily recommending their favorites and offering samples without hesitation. Their passion for baking truly shines through in the quality of their products. Plus, the cozy atmosphere and charming decor make this bakery a perfect spot to relax with a cup of coffee and a pastry. If you're in the area, I highly recommend stopping by Mason Benoit Whether you're looking for a quick treat or planning a special occasion, this bakery exceeds expectations every time. I can't wait to return and explore more of their delicious offerings!

Yelp
Had to do it. Tried the croissant and chocolate croissant based on all the recent reviews. Went on a weekday after lunch and there was no line and no crowd. Also meant the croissants weren't super fresh out of the oven, but the barista suggested I just reheat at a low temp back at home. Buttery goodness! I want to try them fresh out of the oven next time. Maybe just worth the line if they were that good reheated at home!
google avatar

Frances L.

Yelp
Beautiful pastries that taste as good as they look! I arrived on an early Monday morning and was greeted warmly. The pastry case was full of goodies. My favorites were the decadent Almond Pain au Chocolate and the Pain Suisse. I just loved the combination of chocolate and pastry cream in the Pain Suisse. It was so pretty inside. I'd love to come back and enjoy more pastries!
google avatar

Yelp
It's hard not to love this place. The place has a certain Je ne sais quoi! The plethora of pastries and desserts. Savory and sweet. All made with love and the perfect amount of French butter! I have tried numerous items and each one would be hard to say is better than the last. The croissants- flaky and buttery. The croc madame melts in your mouth. The eclairs. Macrons. Saint honore! It's like a little perfect day date in Paris if you close your eyes.
google avatar

Ruobin W.

Yelp
Pretty damn good croissants, pastries and sandwiches for a reasonable price. Your traditional croissants and pain au chocolats are in the $4-5 range and are solid! You get good crispy, soft, flaky layers of carb with a light buttery base flavor. Not too overpowering. The croque was so buttery and cheesy as well. I'm very surprised at the lemon meringue tart, though. The custard is well-formed but not thick and the meringue is so light, it floats off the tart if you bite it wrong. The flavors are so on point as well. It's a good reason to go to Danville, personally.
google avatar

Vivi T.

Yelp
I'm usually not the biggest fan of French pastries, but my friend wanted to try this café. We got the lemon meringue tart, the apple turnover, the custard and chocolate croissant, the chocolate eclair, and the Saint Honoré. It was super fun to try all of these pastries and they were, super tasty, really well crafted, and made with the best ingredients. It was super busy and there was a line out the door when we arrived, but it went relatively quickly. There is seating inside and outside and utensils, water... are all self service. Overall, I was super impressed by this bakery!

Yelp
What a dream come true for the East Bay at Maison Benoit in Danville. With a bustling business, this is most def. the downtown spot to grab something to-go or if lucky enough, be able to grab a spot indoor/outdoor to enjoy your pastries in the moment. Something unique on the menu I noticed on a recent visit was the Breakfast Board. For $12.50, the board comes with a Pain au chocolat, Croissant, and half a baguette served with butter, honey, and jam for you to truly choose your own breakfast adventure. Incredibly fun, picturesque, and great to split! Maison Benoit offers other delicious and traditional French pastries, breads, and omg, can't wait to come back and try the Croque Monsieur..that's one of my favorite things :) Looks like they also sell homemade ice cream and sorbet, and butter & tea from France. The story behind the owner of this spot and his incredibly hard-working Team from France is super cool, the bakery scent from all the deliciousness happening here could be bottled up, and the comfort in each bite felt here is just divine. If you've been, what did you try/what's your go-to bakery item?

Yelp
Tried the famous butter croissant! I liked it. The cafe was super cute too! Worth a visit if you like baked goods like me

Yelp
Finally got a chance to try this place. I had recently had Brunch nearby, but needed something sweet and maybe a coffee. It still had a line at 12:30 but it was a Sunday afternoon. I kept hearing groans from customers in line that they had already ran out of Baguettes. I kept it simple and ordered a Pain Suisse and a Milk and bitter pastry. I had also ordered a Curtado. It was a short wait because they were a lot of workers and they friendly and helpful. Pastry and Curtado were delish. Most definitely gonna come back and try more pastries and Breads. Coffee and time on the patio makes it a lazy day enjoying the summer weather.

Yelp
We came here this morning around 10:30 and there was no one else waiting in line for pastries. There was a medium assortment of pastries. We love custard and really enjoyed the Marquise. This French custard puff tasted very much like the Japanese Beard Papas that cost twice as much and not as good. It's a real steal for 2.50 each. Keep in mind that the puffs are not uniform size so some puffs are bigger than others for the same price. My husband wanted to try their vanilla bean custard flan. I was surprised how it did not taste eggy which I'm used to in a flan. Instead it tasted like solid ice cream. There was definitely a high ratio of cream to eggs in their flan. For $7.50, you get a huge slice that's enough for a whole meal. My husband and I shared one piece and we were really full especially after we ate the Marquise first. This bakery is much smaller than expected. The seating area is very crowded. I would recommend buying the pastry and taking it to go like we did today. We will definitely come back and have more!

Yelp
The breads are consistently amazing, 4 stars. Less impressive is the overall experience. Loud music, blowing fans and noisy patrons make shouting over the counter to the teen wait staff an exercise in frustration. On two visits items were missed or incorrectly handled. And the staff doesn't make it any easier by failing to explain anything or recap order details to check for errors. For your benefit I suggest two things, 1) tell them the number of things your going to order up front (our person ran away after each item dramatically slowing the order, making it harder to confirm the order was complete, and wasting a lot of time) and 2) ask them to recap the full order at checkout. Annoying for sure but the baked goods are very good.

Yelp
Best Bakery in the Bay Area easy... I have had Maison maybe once a month since they opened, if it was up to me I would have it once a week. The food is only second to an actual bakery in France. The service is exceptional and they even speak French. If you want to feel like you just landed in Paris and immerse yourself in the French way of life the grab a coffee and a breakfast box.

Yelp
Great French bakery located in the Downtown Danville area. They have a great variety/selection of pastries and breads. The vibe here is a hustle and bustle old world type bakery with a modern veneer. The people are very friendly here as well. Came here with my parents during the holidays to grab some light breakfast before doing a little holiday shopping. The line went out the door, but it honestly moves pretty fast - the service is efficient in addition to being friendly. We got some bread to go and some croissants/pastries and coffee to enjoy there. My mom got the Kouign-amann which was really well done. I got to tear off a piece of it to try. The croissants were butter and flakey. Just what you expect in a great croissant. The coffee was great as well. My parents are so enthusiastic bringing me to these French bakeries. Maybe it's a byproduct of coming from an era of French-colonized Vietnam (something I mentally-internally struggle with) or at least influences throughout their culture as they grew up, but I love going to these type of places with them. There's a good amount of street parking in the area and the area is very walkable.

Yelp
Donnez-moi all the carbs. I went halfsies on the breakfast board and every bite was better than the one before. The baguette and pain au chocolat were incredible. I took a challah loaf home which ended up being a wonderful buttery delight. To note: they have at least a dozen options in the pastry case to suit any of your carb needs from brioche to galettes. The cafe itself is so cute with lots of natural light and seating. It def gives European cafe vibes. They have more substantial offerings as well, like croques and a few toasts, so definitely a great spot to enjoy a leisurely breakfast. Overall, a gem. If I'm ever near Danville, you bet I'll be here for some treats.

Yelp
I've always wanted to try the Almond Pain au Chocolat and came here twice on Friday morning close to noon and they are always sold out!! Today (a Friday), i had a brunch date nearby but still wanted to see if they had any! I came around 10:30 and found they had a lot of Almond Pain au Chocolat! So I quickly ordered 1 to go before heading to my brunch date! The person who helped me seemed a bit pushy and kept asking "anything else? That's it!" The outside of the croissant had lots of chocolate chips and inside had lots of almond paste! I've never seen a croissant that's so loaded with ingredients! The outside of the croissant is very crispy. You can tell it's very fresh! But when I tasted the inside, I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't taste any almond flavor!! I thought it was because the chocolate was overpowering . so I tried to just taste the almond paste without the chocolate chip. But still, the paste had no strong almond flavor. I'm a chocolate lover but I still love my almond croissant to have almond flavor. So I was a bit disappointed and wish that the almond taste would be stronger than what they had. $7.50 for the croissant was a bit steep for me since I was not totally satisfied. But I think I would still come back and try other things in the future since it seems to be a nice cafe and I want to experience dining in. I ordered one and was excited to try it.

Yelp
Delicious French pastries, breads and savory dishes. The coffees are also well made. This place reminds me of Bouchon in Napa. Wonderful bakery smells and beautiful pastries displayed at the counter. Makes it hard to decide because you want everything! Lines are long but it moves fast. Order comes out timely. Short wait. Lots of seating inside and outside but If customers don't buss their own tables, you can't tell if there are open tables. I bussed a table for me to sit at - leaving my coat and hat while i walked away - then someone stole my table. She took my stuff off the chair and sat down! Rude! I ordered: Avocado Toast - loved the contrast of the seasoned / pickled red onions to the avocado mash. The toasty bread was perfect! Paris Brest - the first and last time I had a Paris Brest was in Paris. It was so delicious. I never thought I would ever have it again. Cappuccino with Oat Milk - well made and so creamy I walked around downtown with my friend and went back to Maison Benoit to buy more baked goods to take home: A traditional baguette Galette des Rois Pecan and Dulcey Chocolate Cookie Babka Brioche with chocolate and hazelnuts Definitely will be back.

Patrycja M.

Yelp
Maison Benoit is hands down one of my favorite spots for pastries and coffee absolutely worth the wait, even if it means standing in line for an hour. Their quality never disappoints. The croissants are buttery perfection, and the coffee is always smooth and flavorful. My husband is obsessed with their croque, and I personally love their quiche so rich and satisfying. I had both spinach, feta & salmon. Both were amazing. That said, during our most recent visit, I was a bit let down by the avocado toast. The bread was unfortunately burned, and for the price, I expected something a little more thoughtful. Honestly, I feel like I could've made a better version at home. Maybe adding a poached or soft-boiled egg on top would elevate it, or just a little more attention to the toast itself. Still, this place is a gem, and I'll definitely keep coming back but I'd skip the avocado toast next time.

Yelp
I think they just celebrated their 1 year anniversary! This is actually my first time here in 2025! I was out sick. A few important updates: New menu items! (Go visit and be surprised) Service / checkout has improved! Remember the long lines? Well there is still a bit of a long line because of its popularity, but checkout experience got faster. No cash (unless you want to leave a cash tip). I recommend trying some of the imported cheese, pâté, meat cuts in the fridges. lastly and probably more importantly the workers are much more knowledgeable about their business ops and pastries. Most people that come here are locals in the tri-valley area... which in my experience we have a curiosity and debate how French this place really is. Well you can chat with the workers here. And most of them speak or are learning French. They even have an Asian guy that speaks perfect French. So I'll be back plenty to learn more about the French whole satisfying my taste buds and filling my gastronomy. Happy new year! 2025!

Yelp
I was so lucky to wonder in on a Monday morning with NO LINE OUT THE DOOR. This place has the yummiest Pan Au Chocolate....it's like being in Paris. The quiche is flavorful and pairs nicely with the side salad. This visit although quick with my extra hot latte and my Pan Au Chocolate hit the spot. The staff is attentive and always smiling even when the building is packed. There is plenty of patio seating outside when the weather permits and cozy couches and tables for two.

Yelp
Maison Benoit is a lovely French bakery that you can smell from streets away in the mornings - it really makes you want a bite! Upon walking closer, you're treated to a fun view through the glass windows and partially open kitchen where you can watch many pastry chefs doing their craft, rolling out dough, measuring eggs and flour, and creating the beautiful and precise selection of baked goods available for purchase. The selection of pastries is extensive and displayed prettily in the glass containers as you come to the counter (sometimes there's a wait in line, more so because it takes customers time to decide than because the staff are slow). Cute croissants, eclairs, fruit tartes, slices of cake, quiche slices, classic French sandwiches and the like greet you and you let the staff know which and how many you'd like, which they can put in a to-go box or on nice platters for dine-in. Beware that inventory does run out later in the day so morning is the best time to go if there are specific items you'd really like! Items are also priced kind of like a fancy brunch place such as $9 for a little lemon meringue tarte or around $7 for a chocolate almond croissant a la carte. Loaves of bread are also available. We got the Breakfast Board ($12.50 - a croissant, chocolate croissant, half baguette served with honey, jam, and butter) for a sampler of the classics and passed on the coffee/tea drinks available this time. Water and utensils are self-serve, and a good amount of varied indoor and outdoor seating options were available. We noticed extra Yule Log cakes available on discount after the holidays as we made our way outside to sit in the pleasant sun. Of the Breakfast Board, our favorite was the chocolate croissant. The chocolate bars in it had good depth of flavor, so cocoa-y and not too sweet. Best of all, the edge of the croissant was so incredibly flaky and crispy, making for a wonderful bite through all the layers of pastry. Our second favorite was the baguette, which we opted to enjoy with just butter (taking the cute jam and honey jars home!) It was really good whipped butter, which when generously spread on the chewy fresh bread made for yummy bites. The exterior of the loaf was crispy crust, and the inside softer and chewier - if anything we'd prefer the baguette just a tad softer overall but perhaps that's also because it was room temperature and not warm when we ate it. Finally, the croissant was fine but did not stand out as exceptional to us. It wasn't as crispy-flaky as the chocolate croissant, but it was impressively airy and easily gobbled up. It still did leave crumbs all over. I would have preferred it to have a bit more buttery or salt flavor. Overall, a fun and authentic-seeming bakery option in Downtown Danville with lots of fans! We thought that overall it was good but not exceptional - wouldn't mind coming back, especially as a place to enjoy a coffee and pastry with a friend, but also wouldn't be craving this place or driving from far out of town just to visit.

Yelp
Quality and taste of offerings is excellent. Very well done. One of the best in the Bay Area. Service is chaotic, confused, slow, and, on occasion, rude. Pricing is exhorbitant. Takeout orders are never on time (in my experience). Location and setting is very nice with indoor and outdoor seating.

Yelp
This is such a lovely place!! Super cute location and there's plenty of seating both inside and outside for whatever you prefer. They have so many delicious looking pastries that I just wanted them all. I got the pain suisse which I don't think I've had before, and we sat inside near the windows. It was so crispy with perfectly soft layers inside that had the classic pastry cream and chocolate pieces. The butteriness was perfect - not too overpowering but flavored the pastry really nicely. I was also eyeing the croissants but my stomach didn't have the capacity for it, so next time I'll have to try those! It's also so nice to just sit at and work or catch up with friends here. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Excellent pastries & savory sandwiches! Line is out the door but service/staff is very efficient and customer-service oriented! Plenty of indoor seating but outdoors is plenty, too.

Yelp
Great selection of French pastries and bakery items! We got several items here: feta and spinach quiche, a baguette, pain au chocolat, Kouign-Amann, mille feuille, and an apple turnover. Everything was delicious and of high quality. The place was very busy, but service was efficient and quick. The restaurant is small, so seating is fairly limited, but outdoor seating is also available. Overall, I would highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Just visited here the other day, and I can't wait to come back. We loved everything! It tasted so fresh! Place was clean enough. Helpful staff. It was cute and cozy. There's indoor and outdoor seating. Easy to find street parking. I think I heard their butter is imported from France! The pastry case was full of familiar things and items I personally don't see a lot of at bakeries here. So many options, there's something for everyone: sweet, savory, pastries, sandwiches, cakes, coffee. ORDER: Chocolate croissant Kougin Aman Pan Suisse Bayonne Sandwich Parisian Sandwich Iced vanilla latte with oat milk Black coffee My only issue is that the seating in some areas is too cramped and hard to get around, we were sat in the corner by the bookshelf and I'm a petite 5' gal, and felt it was a bit too cramped and not accessible for all. Even the area leading to the bathroom, not sure if someone in a wheelchair would be able to easy get around inside.

Yelp
This place is becoming one of my favorite bakeries in the East Bay. I love their croissants and baguettes. The line is long, but worth the wait. It's a great place to sit and enjoy the wonderful creations. Can't wait to try more out!

Yelp
I love this place. The pastries are delicious, and their sandwiches and bread are great, too. They even sell a gluten free bread that is yummy. The only two drawbacks are the daily line and the fact that you have to make a choice and can't eat everything.

Yelp
Went on Sunday morning. In line at 7:17am and received warmed up Croque Monsieur at 7:33am. Croissant sure was the best I have recently tried in San Francisco Bay Area! My friend and I also liked béchamel sauce in Croque Monsieur being creamy yet light at the same time. Room for improvement for service.

Yelp
BAY AREA BAKERY I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR I've been to different bakeries where some were good and others ok. I heard so much about Maison Benoit. One thing that intrigued me on going here was the owner/ baker is from France. Also another reason going to Maison Benoit was there are several bakers from France The first time I came here was the day before Presidents' Day. The line was really long. I wanted to eat here, but I was worried I would not get a seat. Because of the long line along with the hype of this eatery I wasn't sure If I would come back here again so I ordered a lot of items for myself. I ordered the croissant, almond chocolate croissant, salmon tartine and Parisian sandwich, which was the only take-out order. For coffee I ordered honey bear latte. Fish can be pricey however the portion of the salmon on the salmon tartine wasn't skimpy. I'll say this the smoked salmon tartine at Maison Benoit is better than any bagel and lox I ever had. The salmon melted like butter. Sometimes bagels can be dense, but the bread on the tartine was light yet crunchy. My second favorite item is the almond chocolate croissant. I've ordered an almond croissant or a chocolate croissant but never an almond chocolate croissant. At the Maison Benoit the almond chocolate croissant is tastier than any standalone almond croissant or chocolate croissant I've eaten. The combination of almond and chocolate provided a rich flavor. In addition that crust was crispy. The regular croissant was ok as it did have that flaky crusty with the buttery dough. What I love about the Parisian sandwich is the baguette, which was crunchy yet not hard. For beverage I ordered the honey bear latte was that was one of the special drinks of the day. I knew after my first visit I had to come to Maison Benoit again. The following Saturday I came back to Maison Benoit again. When I came here the first time I noticed the item Breakfast Board, which consists of croissant, baguette, pain au chocolate. After learning my lesson the first time of ordering too many items I ordered the Breakfast Board. The other item I ordered was the pain suisse. The baguette was crunchy on the outside yet soft inside. These two features consist of a proper baguette as too often the crust outside is too hard. The pain au chocolate as with the croissant was ok. The pain suisse stood out as this could be the best chocolate croissant I ever had. Instead of melted chocolate there are chocolate chips. Also the crust was flaky and crispy. For coffee I ordered the brown sugar latte. I was planning to come to Maison Benoit during St. Patrick's Day weekend as I saw a photo of a St. Patrick's-theme croissant, but I came back here the following weekend. I came here because of the eclair. Instead of the usual chocolate eclair I ordered the eclair cafe. Other items I ordered were the croque monsieur, which is a toasted ham and cheese sandwich, and chausson aux pommes, which is a French pastry filled with applesauce. From appearance the eclair cafe looks similar to a maple bar donut. When I took a bit of the eclair cafe it was better than any maple bar donut I ever ate. Besides the custard filling the icing on the eclair cafe was smoother than any maple icing I had on a donut. For the chausson aux pommes I liked how the crust was soft not flaky in order to hold the weight of the applesauce, which had slices of apple. The croque monsier was a perfect way to end a weekend brunch as the cheesy texture and savory ham made this dish filling. Nothing everything I ate at Maison Benoit was great, but every visit has either met or exceeded my expectations. After three visits to Maison Benoit I'm a huge fun of this bakery. I can't wait to come back again to try an item that surprises me.

Yelp
The croissant? Truly excellent--flaky, buttery, and five stars all the way. But sadly, the rest of our experience at Maison Benoit fell short--closer to 1.5 stars overall. Let's start with the space: no one was actively bussing tables, and with limited seating inside, this made it hard to find a clean or comfortable place to sit. One employee was using a bistro chair near the bathrooms to charge their phone. Several tables are placed in full view of trash cans and dirty bussing tubs, which really detracts from the dining atmosphere. The couches were visibly dirty and not functional for eating, and the table toward the back is awkwardly positioned next to the bathrooms. There's also a large table in the center of the room that eats up valuable space. You could significantly improve the layout by swapping the couches and large table for smaller bistro tables. For reference, Café Douce France in Palo Alto does this well: it's efficient, clean, and accommodates more guests without sacrificing comfort. Now for the coffee: my husband and I ordered two cappuccinos with almond milk. Both were lukewarm with a sour, bitter, and acrid flavor--truly unpleasant. The baristas don't seem to have proper training in pulling espresso or steaming milk. I'd strongly recommend visiting Piatti or similar cafes to observe how their teams prepare espresso drinks--there's a clear difference in quality and technique. If I were to return, it would be solely for the croissant or a pastry. But until the seating, service, and coffee are addressed, it's hard to recommend Maison Benoit as a full café experience.

Yelp
Maison Benoit has been in my Yelp bookmark for a long time. I finally got to visit on a weekday morning. Parking was easy given it was mid morning and on a weekday. However, there were only 2 to 3 spots left on the streets. Service was very good: it took me quite some time to order, as I was looking around and deciding. The lady was very very patient with me and waited for me. There was no line after me too. Ordered the Flan, Pain au chocolat, few Croissants, and the Éclair Chocolat. All taste really good: delicious yet not a tint of too sweetness. It was a very nice French Bakery, conveniently located. I love the outdoor seating area. The indoor seating area looked lovely too. Will definitely come again, sit down, and try their coffee.

Yelp
Wow, just wow, visiting my friend. She wasn't kidding when she said the best French bakery around. We walked from her house which was 2 miles and treated ourselves to a couple pastries and cappuccinos and before doing the 2 mile walk back. The next day we were hosting a brunch, so picked up a couple quiche, which were also delicious. Nice little coffee and pastry with indoor and outdoor seating.

Yelp
I travelled all the way from Los Angeles to try this patisserie. It did not disappoint! The croissant is truly deserving of the award that it won. The Saint Honeré was incredible. Unfortunately, I didn't realize how quickly they run out of popular items every day. Next time I'll have to get there before 9am. Also, I have to mention how wonderful the staff was and what a beautiful location they have in Danville. I'm eagerly looking forward to going back one day again!
