Restaurant Bonnet

"Beñat Bonnet represents the third generation at the helm of this family-run restaurant, whose reputation is well established in the region. Local ingredients are celebrated in contemporary-style cuisine, with dishes such as Baigorry trout gravlax and braised veal with cep and chorizo viennoise sauce. For dessert, try the coconut finger sorbet, as crisp as it is refreshing!" - Michelin Inspector

We have been staying here in the hotel attached to the restaurant. Had hoped for very good food, a little disappointed. Very good service I will say, but the food didn’t hit the spot. My foie gras had little taste, the veal medallions were just about pink, spelt risotto rather bland, mushroom sauce was good though. The real disappointment was the dessert, we payed a supplement for it too. Pear soufflé, basically sweetened egg white, with a measure of pear eau de vie to pour in, yes it gave pear flavour, but I’ve eaten many a soufflé, that tasted far better. I will say the madeleine served with it was very good. Maybe because the restaurant was very busy, the cooking suffered!

We arrived and one of us had a fractured ankle from the walk. They found a wheelchair and made sure of the easiest access. The food is wonderful. Make sure you come with good appetite. Room comfortable and quiet in a rural village. Everyone courteous and friendly.

Great hotel to arrive at on second day of our walking holiday. It had been a very wet day and to have a room with a patio and shelter to spread out and dry our kit was great. Large comfortable bed and a very good shower.|The highlight was dinner. On our sixth night in France this was the best meal yet. It was a set menu for the people doing this trip but showed some real touches of class. Vegetable risotto to start, lovely barbecued pork on a cauliflower purée and a light chocolate dessert to finish. We were given a fabulous picnic with two lovely salads to see us on our way.|I would definitely go back if in the area and explore the menu.

Very nice and surprisingly large dining room with traditional decoration in this lovely old hotel. There is also a beautiful terrace with views which I'm sure would be superb on a sunny lunchtime (we visited in the evening). We took the 25EUR menu for 3 courses and a 50cl bottle of wine after a brief word from the waitress on the merits local options. As a couple we ordered different selections for each course to compare the dishes and... Updated: we visited again recently. The ambience and service are unchanged but pricing is up slightly, which is to be expected. However, while the flavours were still amazing the cuts of meat we received weren't up to the quality of the rest of the experience this time. Maybe just unlucky but this somewhat put a damper on an evening we were looking forward to.

We had an average room (No 16) with single beds. There was a fridge and safe. The bathroom had a bath with a handheld spray extension. The bedroom opened out to a slightly enclosed patio/garden area. There was a swimming pool with slightly difficult access. It was cold and not particularly clean. There was a seediness to the swimming pool area.||||The dining rooms and dining patio area looked impressive. At supper we had a fixed menu. My wife did not like the 1st course and was given an alternative. The food was excellent. We were brought 2 aperatifs which tasted of aniseed. After tasting we asked the waiter what they were. He realised he had given us drinks meant for another table. He took them away and gave them to the intended table. We had to stop him as we had already drunk some of the drink. He took them away again but did not return them to us!||||Breakfast was pleasant

A lovely situation in the higher part of Itxassou, right on the pelote court and with views to the hills and Pas de Roland. Our room was practical and nicely decorated with a small patio garden. The hotel has a nice dining room where we enjoyed dinner, breakfast and the view. The owners also provided an excellent and imaginative picnic. ||I'm rating 4 rather than 5 as the bathroom while perfectly clean and functional probably needs a light refurbishment to match the finish of the room.

Super comfy king bed, terrace, beautiful views, lovely people. A little expensive for me but included dinner and an amazing buffet breakfast and you can see from all the photos the food is delicious.

Overall a pleasant hotel in the main square of the town. The room we had was perfectly ok and had a small area for sitting out as well. The dinner was the best bit of our stay with really good food. Everything was clean and well organised.
