"Frédéric Doucet's restaurant is a creative and exciting new take on established ideas of terroir and tradition. The son of bistro owners, he was born into the business, and cut his teeth in the kitchens of the greatest chefs, from Pierre Orsi to Paul Bocuse via the prestigious La Maison Troisgros. Nestled in the heart of a village with pointed towers and old weathered roofs, the chef breaks it down for diners: nothing but the finest ingredients from Saône-et-Loire, beef, goat's cheese or snails, prepared by means of rigorously applied classic techniques that do not exclude flashes of inspiration. Take, for example, the frogs' legs glazed in wild garlic served with colours of the local meadows or the exceptional fillet of Charolais beef, matured and infused with Burgundy whisky. We had a wonderful night at Maison Doucet. The Chef is an artistic and culinary treasure! He also has an amazing team, especially the sommelier. Our best meal of the trip by far!!! We also loved the hotel. The staff were so helpful, especially the head of reception, Xiaoran. Charolles was a little bit out of the way for us but we are so glad we went. It is a small village with amazing people. We will be back!

The room was large and comfortable as was the bath. Bed very comfortable and there were great views. Indeed you felt at the home of Fredrick Doucet and family. The staff provided the best service I ever had at a lodging. 5 nights.

I have been going to this place for 27 years when it was owned by the parents of the present owner, their son. When the Bistrot opened it was very good but over the last few years there has been a steady decline in everything, I was there several nights ago and the service was not very attentive, which has been the situation for several previous visits. Perhaps the owner should be more involved in seeing that all is done correctly instead of just greeting the people at the tables. It was very disappointing when it was impossible to find someone to bring silver ware to the table after the food had been served. The same for the wine which just sat there and not poured. I have heard the same situation occurred with several other people who now will not return. These experiences travel by word of mouth.

We came to Maison Doucet In 2022 and wanted to come back. We thought it was very very good then, but now it is at another level. The cuisine is exceptional with seamless service. An interesting experience. The hotel is well appointed and its only downside is the rooms are spread over a couple of locations. If you are on the ground floor there is no problem with getting your luggage into the room. We were on the first floor and had our luggage delivered to the room. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Dinner is a set menu based on the local beef. Aperitifs are served in the garden before going through into dinner. My wife is allergic to molluscs, which we had notified, yet one of the courses was served with razor clam, which is a bivalve (mollusc)! Parking is arranged off site which is very helpful and the car is returned having been cleaned.

We visited Maison Doucet in May, and stayed overnight in the adjoining rooms. Frederic came to each table before the start of service to begin what was one of the best meals we have ever enjoyed. Each course was meticulous in preparation and presentation, with immense expertise visible on each plate, and carried through the entire meal. Wines were by the glass, chosen with equal skill by the sommelier. Each was a perfect match. A quick visit to the calm and efficient kitchen was a wonderful insight. Charolles is not on the general tourist trail, but Maison Doucet is a destination of its own.
