Just find your spot under the dangling tinsel and disco ball and get ready to swap sweat with a stranger." - julia chen 1, patrick wong, lani conway, ricky rodriguez

15 SF Bars Where You Can Dance - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"We wish this place lived up to its name, but maybe that’s more of an us problem than a you problem. Nonetheless, Make-Out Room is a Mission standby for dancing surrounded by shimmering stars, tinsel dangling from the ceiling, and deer heads hanging on the dark green walls. The crowd runs local, while the music runs eclectic—a mix of indie pop, rock, salsa, reggaeton, and cover bands—you never know what kind of music you’re gonna run into at Make-Out Room, which is part of the experience." - ricky rodriguez

Maybe it was just the night when I went, but definitely nothing special about this spot. The bouncers were a bit nasty for no reason. $10 cover fee for whaaaaaaa? that’s why you’re empty They had 1 choice for sake, which was lukewarm and tasted horrible. Music was 11/10, bunch of weirdos present when I was there (perhaps I came too late). I will only come again if my friends force me to lol

Google
Fun little nightclub with retro vibes often featuring live music. When I went it was a 90’s night and we danced and sang the whole night away! The drinks are nothing really to write home about but the atmosphere is just so much fun it’s really a great place to go!

Google
If I could give this place an 11 for atmosphere I would. It's a solid bar with great cocktails and really great service. The bartenders there were amazing. It was crowded and they handled everything like champs. They had like three live bands playing and still didn't wink and I these guys were great. I would highly recommend going.

Christopher Santantasio

Google
I love this place. A welcoming, divey bar and venue that serves a diverse clientele. Drinks are reasonably priced. They have a great variety of beers on tap and a decent liquor selection. Don’t expect fancy cocktails, but you can get most classic cocktails here. Their rye old fashioned is always good. They do not serve food, but you can bring in outside food to enjoy during shows. There is a small stage in the back.

Google
It was Wednesday, and apparently they have karaoke. The bartender was super cool. And they had a beer I really like that a lot of places don't carry. They have a bunch of seating. There was only one stall in the ladies restroom.

Brian Bulkowski

Google
I only go for the live music, which is always good. Bartenders seem surly there but that's ok i am there for the music. No food. The sfmta parking lot is convenient if you can't find street parking but hella expensive

Google
Past week we went there and some friends was there waiting for us according to out fiends since they arrive there the security guys was very rude and they said they don't have any events and they have to pay to enter ,then me and my girls friend go to the place bar service was ok dj music was exelent good vibes and versatility of music , but, we go to second floor and spend less than 30 mins we don't like it upthere so we decide going back and security guys was very rude saying we have to pay again but in really rudness way ,one of our fiends said why we have to pay if we was there already everyone star arguing I told them I have tickets to go in there again and they call the cops that's was intolerant and excessive rude and discrimination terrible situation and terrible experience. Not recommended at least they change the racist security guys.

Google
All kinds of live music happening here including a monthly improvised music series that I try to attend. Nicely decorated fun place.

Yelp
Love the Makeout Room! Always always a good time here Just found out that they're the same owners of Latin American Club, so you'll often see the same staff at both locations. It has a handful of double seater booths and a few large, open booths in the back with tables and rolling office style chairs along the dance floor (definitely fits the vibe). We came on a random Tuesday to watch my friend spin, and it was great to see how spacious the place actually is. Plus the tunes were great!

Yelp
Came here for a show - "About Last Night" Storytelling Open Mic last week. Love these events. Some notes: -Parking is almost non-existent on a Friday night so plan ahead. -Venue itself was pretty cool with the ceiling ornaments and lighting, space is intimate, and already packed an hour before the show started. -There's only 1 stall in the tiny bathroom - Bar is cash-only (there's an ATM) - Limited seating- you best come early to be able to grab a coveted lounge-style seat in the front of the stage, booths on the side, or you'll be left standing throughout the show. I was slick and grabbed a barstool to face the stage. -There's a water jug with paper cups in case you get thirsty Show itself was hilarious and highly recommend it- just heed the above and you'll have a great time.

Yelp
i came here with some friends for one of our friend's gigs on a sunday evening. it was quite cold and windy, typical for january in sf, and we unfortunately had to wait outside in the cold for a few minutes while the crew setup for the first set. we arrived exactly on time, so were disappointed in not being able to enter the club, where we could seek shelter from the cold and wind. once inside, we each paid $10 cover charge. some of us ordered drinks, but there was no menu, so no food service. there were several tables scattered in the back, so we grabbed 2, since we were a party of 6 (later 7). i was happy that my friend's band went on first, since it was already a bit late, esp for a sunday evening. the acoustics were pretty good, and lighting was also decent, since i didn't have any problems seeing each band member from the back. the restrooms, right behind where we were seated, were quite narrow and small, but i was grateful i never had to wait to use the facilities! parking was not too bad on sunday evening, and we were able to get free parking on the street.

Yelp
If the word vibe was to be described as a place this is it. Inside looks tacky yet also weirdly cute. I came here with a group on a Saturday around midnight and it was packed. There is a $10 cover fee in cash. I think it was Cumbia, 00's songs, and some techno-esque music playing most of the time. I still can't accurately describe the ambiance of this place. It feels like there is some intention on a super random mix of music which makes the place seem alt. or jaded hipster energy. It probably is simply just bad millennial era music taste and nothing more. It felt nostalgic, like I was reliving a high school dance. There is a full bar in here, but cash only. There is a Wells Fargo ATM right across the street. There are cans sold individually as well as reasonably priced cocktails at the bar. I got a Moscow mule and an IPA for less than $20, but that's one drink worth elsewhere in San Francisco and so I would say this place is wallet friendly. If you're looking to find something unique to do near midnight with friends in this area, this venue would be a good option.

Yelp
I understand it is normal to tip at the bar.. but because I didn't tip for an outrageously expensive "large margarita" the bartender (tall, larger man with a mustache) was extremely rude to me. I'm not obligated to do anything, also not to mention that I just couldn't afford a tip at the time. I normally would've been happy to tip because I've worked in the food industry and I understand, but this bartender was extremely rude, telling me that it's "normal for people to tip the bartender, and if I can't tip I shouldn't be drinking at a bar." I was appalled and offended. I'm sorry I don't make enough money to tip you at the moment, but telling me that was inconsiderate as fuck.

Yelp
True classic. Always a good time. Unbeatable vibes. Go there with a date, or find a cutie sitting at the bar. Only a short 2 block walk down Mission street from 24th St BART.

Yelp
My friends' friends dragged us here the other weekend. We were just enjoying the night in SF and they suggested we go here. Cover charge is $10 and it's cash only. There's a Wells Fargo ATM across the street if you need it. Make Out Room feels like you're in the Hippie Era lol. It kind of feels like you're at a Berkeley College party back in the 60s or 70s haha. We danced for a short while but my friends weren't really feeling the vibe there that night so we left quickly.

Yelp
ha- I started this review on July 7th of this year and I remember why. Makeout Room is a great spot in theory, sure. The space itself is nice, the vibe could be just right. hypothetically. Granted, I'm not here as much as I used to be back in 2015-2017 but whatever. I came in this summer and was charged a $20 cover for music that was not advertised. Meaning that I paid $20 for hiphop/r+b/latin and got indie slow sad music. should I have stood outside and listened for a bit? probably. I got drunk and asked the bartender why the DJ was not playing said hiphop and they said that there's 2 hrs left of him playing but I had been there for 2 hours already and I heard Kate Bush 3x.
google avatar

Nilay P.

Yelp
This place is fine, very hipster-divey which SF seems to love. They had a cover. A friend's wallet got stolen. From her purse. Have never heard of this happening before to anyone at a bar in the US ‍

Yelp
Love the dance floor and love how much space is this bar has but the men that "dj" on the weekends are assholes! Literally recommended one song and they told me to stop being a "control freak" and pushed me off the stage! I almost fell!!! The music here is soooo terrible I highly recommend mothership on mission than this bar that has shit music and shit dj's. Seriously how are you going to play STRICTLY oldies when you have an entirely full dance floor of mainly 20-30 yr olds that not dancing to a single song you play. Get better dj's for real this is my last resort bar to go to. Bartenders are super awesome but the DJs have got to go.

Delaney H.

Yelp
Fun vibe if you are blacked out, but not great people. The DJ pushed me off the dance platform after his record skipped and blamed it on me. Ended our night on a sour note. Will not be returning anytime soon. No food offered.

Regi R.

Yelp
Doors open at 6:30 but didn't let anyone in till 7:10? Ok no biggie. But when the bartender comes outside to smoke and blows his smoke and literal f'in ash in your face? Disgusting but maybe it was an accident whatever. But getting screamed at by the same smelly poorly dressed bartender built like grumpy the dwarf because of a small can of Pineapple juice that the staff WATCHED YOU bring in because they're drinks were so disgusting but they were nearly 15$ so you feel obligated to drink that literal rat poison? Yeah not cool. Im literally hard of hearing and was sitting down due to being overstimulated by the noise (my choice to be there, loved the music!) when dude RUNS UP on me out of nowhere screaming "do you bring food to a restaurant???" And of course this FINE establishment deserves more respect, i should have used the liquid spilled all over the dance floor at all times as a chaser , my bad. Then this grown ass man felt the need to get in my face (im literally 5'2 , alone and tipsy) and accuse me of hiding a bottle that at this point I WISH I had. Even people around me asked if i was good after because mans was so aggressive over nothing. His staff ALSO had already given me free pineapple juice on top of him yelling at my other friends in a different situation unrelated to this (they changed they're mind about a drink boohoo.) Im in the service industry and hate complaining but wow this place was something else. Yikes.

Elena S.

Yelp
unfortunately your bouncer, the older white gentleman with glasses, acted extremely inappropriate with my friends. we all went out for some air and upon re-entry he physically grabbed my friend and held her and other girl in our group back (the only two brown non white indivisuals in the group) and did not let them enter. after patronizing them and accusing them of lying, and accusing them of sneaking in (they were both over 25), he would only believe them once our white friends vouched. He committed really egregious acts of racial profiling and inappropriate behavior.

Yelp
This is one of the most special places in San Francisco, period. Diverse Dj's and live bands, and amazing cool atmosphere. I am only writing this review to offset the negative feedback I'm seeing here which is clearly written by gentrifying techie douchebags. Sorry it's not an immaculate "lounge" where you can discuss your HR department and use an app to pay. Please move to San Jose and don't crowd this beautiful wonderful bar which caters to SF's actual culture.
google avatar

Noah W.

Yelp
I don't feel safe here... For many reasons. It's a filthy bar. But that's nothing compared to, what looks like, a major structural issue. I will be calling SFBD for commercial structural inspection. You guys need a carpenter ASAP

Yelp
Good venue near Bart. Location not too sketchy, but hard to find from Google Maps! The sign was kind-of low and not where my friend or I expected it to be. Cozy, intimate, well-decorated, this is a great place for a Tinder date or a girls' night out. They also have a clean bathroom (only one stall.) Service could be better, however. A bartender skipped over my friend who wanted a drink (maybe because she looks younger than 21?) and was not helpful. It was like he didn't care about her service! May be back just for the venue.
google avatar

Mariana H.

Yelp
overall it's a dive bar! poor service, but whatever you expect a dive bar to be, it's that! can't blame them for being a bar. just don't expect the service to be above and beyond.
google avatar

Yelp
I used to love this place on Saturday nights for cumbia but it seems they changed the kind of music being played. The dj on 6/4/22 was horrible. Couldn't get into any song because he would transition/mix songs in and out too quickly which made the music just seem like a bunch of scrambled noise.
google avatar

Denise C.

Yelp
Tonight I revisited the Makeout Room for one of the only Litquake events I decided to go to this year. It was a music journalist event with Joel Selvin and Sam Barry(Dave Barry's brother). The two writers are in the Rock Bottom Remainders with Amy Tan. The turnout was lowkey but enough. The bouncer was dbag that would get away from me. He kept "babysitting me" only to tell me to get shoes off the "effin" furniture. The furniture is crap and he sucks. I hope I don't run into that bouncer again at the Make Out Room. Here's to LitQuake 2019! It's over tomorrow.

Yelp
Amazingggg dancing place! Great vibes and happy times always! Love love love this bar!

Yelp
Yup I love this funky dive. We normally head down on Tuesday nights after Virgil's and sometimes Saturday. Okay, I have to be honest, when I first went to the club with friends, I was thinkin,"No way "! I would never be comfortable in this dive. A lot of single males hanging out front, if I may an alterative crowd to Valencia street. More of a homie skateboardie(it's a word now)vibe, which is not a bad thing. I just tend to like a mixture of folks, so I wasn't sure of the mindset. However once inside that's exactly what I got. Oh and by the way, I now know a lot of the guys and we're kindred spirits now. We hook up at different venues such as the Tenderloin Artist Crawl. The club depending on the night has different music and therefore the clientele varies slightly, however the main focus musically is of Latin origin. I'll stick to Tuesday nights, because that's what I know! The one down side for me is the music. Some DJ's play what they wanna play no matter how the crowd reacts, or doesn't. Get what I mean! Excuse me , you're playing for people to dance and not one person is doing so? So I have to minus one star, being that it can be hit or miss. For instance, one night was all slow 50's and 60's love songs, ALL NIGHT LONG. Boy, was that a difficult night to get through.. I found people were more in to strong Latin beats,70's up dance beats, funk; a bit of EDM. However, when the music is good, boy is it a party. Like a total love in. Not just dancing, but a celebration of life. Everyone dancing together, the type where you can just go on the floor alone and join others dancing. People ages ranged between early 20's-50's, in other words 99, ageless and definite Transcenders(raise above hate). It was definitely ALW,(all lifestyles welcome), which gives it, it's vibrant energy. People are there to have a good time, not hate and judge. It wasn't a meat market either. People dancing together no matter the sex or identify. It's actually great to see men dancing together with their homie and not trip(no biggy), just celebrating! Some people dress up for the night(on a date), most just come as they are. Many come with a 60's - 70's mod looks like Twiggy, the Monkeys, Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Janis;etc. Gonna have to say I've never paid much attention to the décor,(there is none),it's just what it is. Besides the people are what it's about. So full of energy and life, who's looking at walls. I always look around and say, "This is why I love San Francisco."

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night because my friend promised me they would play hip hop haha (not sure if she was misled...) Also I'm laughing because a bunch of the reviews on here say you come out making out with a stranger and they're not wrong.... Pros: - decent vibes. Fun little stage they let you get up on and dance on - Decently priced alc - walkable from the Bart station - crowd seems to be like young adult up to 40 - decent dance space Cons: - cash only for drinks - ONE WOMEN'S BATHROOM. LITERALLY ONE STALL - I tried not to be a princess about this but I feel like it should really not be okay for a bar to only have one bathroom (this didn't happen when I was here - but what if this toilet clogs? What if someone gets drunk and is throwing up in there? What if you run out of toilet paper??) I think me and 10 other basic Bs in line probs whined about this situation LOL. - A lot of the music was just house/EDM music that you can just bounce to but not really dance to. Not sure who was DJing that night. I still had a good time with my friends and met nice people, but I think if you DJ you have to throw in a top 40 every once in a while to keep people hyped.
google avatar

Amber C.

Yelp
This place really bodies San Francisco! Diverse crowd age-wise, lifestyle-wise, but all together for a somewhat retro good time. It is cash-only and sometimes the DJs are uncompromising, but the vibes are pretty unmatched. Come as acquaintances, leave as friends :)
google avatar

Yelp
Oh Make Out Room, how I love you. I've been to Make Out Room quite a few times since it is in my neighborhood. I love the decor, atmosphere, and all of the variety of music and DJs that they get to come out and play every night. There is a ton of seating both at the bar and booths and tables they have. My favorite music nights are definitely Soul Finger and dance parties! Some nights you come and it'll be dead but it is still awesome to be able to chill at the bar and listen to the vinyls spinning. Other nights you come and it is packed to the max and everyone is dancing! The crowd is definitely mixed and it is super fun. I've never really had a bad experience with a bartender, sure sometimes it is hard to get a drink because it is hella busy but they are always super nice and know how to make a stiff drink. Drinks are very reasonable and strong. It is cash only but they have an ATM inside so don't fret.
google avatar

Anna K.

Yelp
First of all, this place has a FANTASTIC name, and I'm lonely as hell (hello) so that's really saying something. Second of all, people really were making out here and I arrived fairly early, around 9 pm on a Saturday. Congratulations to all of you folks out there getting that lip. Anyway, I loved the atmosphere here and all of the attention to detail when it comes to decor, right down to the dresser onstage that serves as a turn table for whoever is in charge of music for the evening. The alcohol is pretty fairly priced here as well, though it is CASH ONLY which stresses me out a little bit, but that's no one's issue but my own. If you're in the area, definitely check this place out, because it's definitely unique. Thanks, bye!!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Went to a free jazz venue here and it was so sick. I love the lights, the disco ball, the seats, and simply lit vibe of the whole place. They do fee jazz concerts every month or so, and they're one of the few places to host such a thing in the city. The jazz was quality and you could sit right up next to the performers.
google avatar

Katie A.

Yelp
This bar has fuckin' strong drinks. 10 outta 10 would recommend if you're trying to get lit and sweat your night awa

Yelp
In a world where businesses come and go everyday, Make-Out Room feels like one of the fewer SF institutions hanging on. It was probably one of the first bars I visited after moving to SF several years ago and going there now it still feels basically the same (which is a good thing!) My favorite part of the bar is just the overall feel and look. From the decorations hanging from the ceiling to the seating along the wall, to the small dj area on the stage, it's welcoming and uniquely its own. Speaking of the dj area, I also appreciate the many weekday happy hour sets playing indiepop, britpop, glam, 60s, etc. Weekdays are already the best time to go here as weekends are insanely crowded (plight of the Mission), but the awesome dj sets make it even more worth while. Archive Fever, Cool as F**k, and Rock and Roll Workshop are all worth checking out. As for the drinks, I'm a beer person, and while I wouldn't say the selection is out of this world, the variety is decent and there's usually a couple very drinkable choices available. The one major downside, though, is that they only do cash. I get that there are a variety of reasons why a bar might go this route (and this does seem to be a thing for some of the older places in SF), but I don't ever carry cash so I have to go out of my way to get some out before going to MOR. Would absolutely end up spending more if I wasn't capped by however much I took out of the cash machine. Nonetheless, glad that there are still places in SF like Make-out Room, and hope their doors will stay open for many years to come.
google avatar

Myrhissa B.

Yelp
They started cleaning at 1:30 and didn't do last call. I have pictures of them just talking and joking around all the while they we were trying to get there attention.
google avatar

Kevin S.

Yelp
The Makeout Room is a fun bar. There's music and a dance floor. A beer will cost you between $6-$8. It definitely is a fun environment. Make sure to bring cash because it is cash only. The crowd at the makeout room is a mix of ages and people.

Shelby D.

Yelp
best dancing spot in sf! thank you to the bouncers for listening to women and making sure everyone is comfortable
google avatar

Ross S.

Yelp
I came here on a Saturday night for the first time and had a blast. If you are looking for a place to dance, the Make Out Room is one of the best places to check out in the mission. Although there is a cover, and this is a turn off, I still had a blast and recommend for anyone to come here with friends that are looking to dance the night away
google avatar

Galya T.

Yelp
Make Out Room has a fun atmosphere! Its a great spot to grab beer, dance or hang out and see one of their many events. I came here specifically to see a stand up comedy, One Night Stand. I think when there is an event you def have to pay for tickets. My friend got me tickets ahead of time incase they sell out. The event was lively and even audience volunteered to share their One Night Stand stories. I really enjoyed their decorations. A fun disco ball hanging from a top shined on people in the room. Sparkly confetti was hanging everywhere too. It really did remind me of 90s dance house. As a kid thats how i used to decorate my room or house whenever you were having a sleepover and wanted to dance. It def brought out a fun inner child out of me. Part of Make Out Room is reserved seating, so there is a lot of standing around because seating is limited.
google avatar

Miles D.

Yelp
Pros: The bald candor of the staff is breathtaking. Cons: If you leave something behind, they keep it and have a good laugh.
google avatar

Holly M.

Yelp
So first impressions of this place were great, really nice atmosphere and setting, live music and cool dance floor. But unfortunately 3 factors ruined the evening for me 1) The older looking bar man heard my non American accent and shouted down my ear about tipping when I had barely received my change back 2) They don't allow straws in drinks... First time I've heard this rule 3) One girls toilet, surely for the size of the venue that should be illegal
google avatar

M P.

Yelp
Make Out Room is a hidden gem in SF's nightlife scene. If you like dancing and people who still DJ with vinyl, this is the spot for you! They have great underground DJs every night of the week, but if you aren't sure when to go I would recommend going on a night when Chulita Vinyl Club plays (one Thursday / month) and that way you won't go wrong with the music selection. The atmosphere is very non-pretentious and so so so fun - there is even a disco ball! They play music you won't here at other clubs / bars and the decor is very unique. The drink prices are about the same as other places in the area ($6-10), and most nights they don't have a cover charge. Check this place out!
google avatar

Natalye R.

Yelp
I've got to hand it to Jessica T. She's absolutely right that Make-Out Room is all about the right bands on the right nights. From the outside, it looks pretty dumpy, like the kind of place where you would absolutely not have a good time. Of couse, sometimes the best dive bars can turn out to be amazing, but this place just looks dead, particularly if you're showing up earlier. But a friend's band was playing, so we ventured in. Warm, welcoming, not too busy, tinsel and lights dangling from the ceiling, good drinks... The sound was OK, although the red light was a bit much (a photographer's bane), and we had a good time dancing during the show and hanging out after. I think I also tried watermelon beer here for the first time, in a can no less. Win.
google avatar

Nick O.

Yelp
This is the only place out of the bars my girlfriend and I went to where they could make a midori sour perfectly Ambience was chill and relaxing yay
google avatar

Rosemary V.

Yelp
Ambiance: We got there at 10 and the crowd was mostly older Caucasians, but as the night went on, it became more diverse in age and race. The place has a divey bar vibe and has a space in the middle to dance. Drinks were $7-12. Music: We came here looking for some Latin music. The DJ played mostly cumbia and one old merengue. He also played some salsa which I did not recognize. If you're looking for east coast Latin music, this is not the place for you, but I was happy to see what my Latinos in the west coast are into. I can't say many of the people there dance well but then again as long as you're having fun, who cares, right? My friends were not feeling it and wanted to leave but it was an interesting experience.

Yelp
The Make-Out Room is one of the few original bars left in SF. And when I say original, I'm not only referring to the fact that it's been an anchor business in the neighborhood since the mid-90's, but also that it continues to host a range of local talent - authors, bands and DJs - that have been a part of the community for some time. And with the closing of other local watering holes like the Attic, Pop's and Jack's, it increasingly serves as somewhat of a refuge for otherwise displaced artists, writers and creative types that don't necessarily have the income or inclination to frequent some of the city's newer, pricier, and more boutique establishments aimed at a very different, and more recently transplanted, audience. That said, you can catch some of the city's best up-and-coming bands during one of their frequent happy hour shows, and some of the city's best DJs on choice weeknights. Not to be missed are the Tuesday night Slow Jams party with Primo and Lucky (San Francisco's best oldies DJs), the Thursday night Web of Sound party with Jackie Sugarlumps (San Francisco's best 60's garage DJ) and the Friday night 2000's party Last Nite (some of San Francisco's best indie DJs.) Go for the happy hour, stay for the show. Leave a nice review as well. We don't have many real places left and this is one of them.

Yelp
I feel like at the end of the night, we're somehow always here or around this place. Things to know: Cash only bar, sometimes here is a $10 cover to get in on busy nights. Loud, small club/bar environment, you will not be having any deep conversations here. Think dance dive bar. Think grimy, dark, with dusty decorations hanging from the ceiling. Think cheap drinks. Think running into the owner as your arm is around some girl you've just met, shaking his hand and admiring his beard, as you compliment him on how dope his bar is. Think thinking to yourself that you won't drink anymore, and then having your drunkass friends handing you another redbull vodka and toasting to all the best times in life. Think drinking that last drink and knowing that you're blasted, and watching your friend pass out on the couch. Drinks are good - the dive bar drinks that is. Moscow Mule/Old Fashioned-esque drinks, not the Local Edition bougie drinks that you may be used to. if you're looking for a low key ratchet night (you ain't down to run into your boy's ex at bootie), then swing by here. Just pick up some benjamins from the bank before you step inside.

Yelp
This place is crazy crowded for a Tuesday night at 11pm. Had no idea. After a terrific dinner and old co worker and I werent quite ready to head home yet so we got a drink here. Kentucky Mule and Mezcal to cap the night. Luckily we caught a booth but it was decently full and people were working the dance floor. the people are all over the place and it's interesting people watching for sure. Otherwise It's a decent bar with a kooky charm

Yelp
Great place for dancing, but it's basically always cumbia music and sometimes the guys here can get a little aggressive about making them dance with you. Otherwise, I recommend stopping by and having a fun night!

Yelp
Went here for Slow Jams on a Tuesday night. Fantastic selection of music that you rarely hear out and about. Dance floor eventually got pretty fun. My two complaints are that: * The Slow Jam vibe started too late... I understand if the DJ doesn't want to start their set at the advertised time, but could the bartender get us in the mood with a playlist from the genre we came here for? * The bass was turned up so high it sounded pretty bad until I got enough whiskey in me not to care. I was expecting a weeknight Slow Jam night to be a little mellower, but the muddled sound system made it hard to converse and hard to appreciate the quality of the musical selections. I'd still go back, though.

Yelp
That night it wasn't my overall ideal space, but that doesn't mean it's not cool. It was kind of an open mic deal going on...it was an authentic San Francisco experience, and that's what I set out to have. Hell, they were probably as shocked I was there as I was lol. But as in all situations, a good bar keep will always mellow it out for his customers if he's worth his salt, and Dave is definitely that. Next time I'll just take a look at what's going on before I stroll in lol. Still a good time...I was with the guy performing until he messed up a Rob Zombie song...sac religious! Lol

Yelp
We'd never been here just for drinks before -- the place is often used for events so that's why I've gone in the past. They have a list of mules that seem to be a house specialty -- I went for the one with bourbon this time. Bartender was friendly, fast, and talented. We'll be back.

Yelp
The Make-Out Room is my favorite bar in San Francisco's Mission District. I guest DJ once in awhile for Festival '68, and the sound is good, the night well-attended, and the vibe is just great. This bar hosts other great music nights and happy hours too, such as Rock and Roll Workshop. Good music, friendly and knowledgable bartenders, and no cover charge make this spot a great choice any night of the week. I really like the bar decor too...velvet paintings, chandeliers, and red walls provide an intimate, vintage atmosphere.

Yelp
Dear Make Out Room Bartender, That was the worst margarita I've ever had. It was also the most expensive margarita I've ever had ($18?!? Wow). What a terrible combo. Love the DJs though. Cool crowd. Too bad the bar can't quite measure up. Sincerely, A former customer

Yelp
This place is cool if your going to see a specific band or performer. Upon entrance at the door they charged an exorbitant $12 cover charge and only took cash at their bar. The spot feels like your typical mission dive bar, but with a stage and a little dance floor that was made by clearing out the chairs. Go for a band you follow, or if you like the mission hipster grunge scene then this place is for you for dam show. Cons: they packed this place pretty full, which was surprising because the cover was so much money! Also beers ranged from 6-8$ which isn't bad but considering the cover, you end up having to spend a lot of you want to drink at all.

Yelp
I have only been here twice and they have both been on Saturday nights. Apparently those nights are Latin night which is my favorite so you know I was into it. There was no line to get in, even tho it was around 11pm. There is a charge of $10, cash only. The first time I came here it was totally spontaneous. My friends and I wanted a place to drink so we just went in. We had no idea it turned into a dancing space. I enjoyed it so much that 2 weekends later I was back with my friend and my guy. The age range varies, there were people who are probably in their 30s, late 20s. Both times I've came I believe my group and I have probably been the youngest ones there (we're in our early 20s) but that did not matter. To me it seems as if there's not a lot of dirty dancing here, like grinding. My friends and I were probably the ones that we're getting a little too wild, but honestly everyone enjoys it. We're all just trying to have a good time. The only thing that was kind of annoying was someone threw a beer can up in the air and it hit me on my head and spilled on the girl next to me. I'm the type to be very passive so I let it go, but if I would of been kind of tipsy I would of gone off on them. Even with that I'd still recommend it if you're in the mood to dance to some reggeaton, Cumbia and just Latin music with a mix of Hip Hop.
