Google
My favorite malatang in manhattan. I used to go the one in Edison NJ a lot. They have the best quality of beef slices with the most affordable price compared to similar restaurants. The sauce bar is great too!

Food here is super yummy. This place is PACKED during rush hour as a testament to how good the food is. The music is lit, always has a fun mandopop mix on. Service could be better. Had to ask for a second spoon each time I went for 2 people sharing 1 meal , we clearly won't share 1 spoon.

Im so glad we came here. It Exceeded my expectations. You are so close to Mount Sinai hospital, Columbia University, Barnard College and the Cathedral of Saint John the divine. Its quick and affordable and delicious. You can eat vegetarian, paleo or any way you like. Wagu beef or pea shoots are plentiful. I got the dry hot pot extra spicy and the beef bone broth. Phenomenal. The Beijing yogurt delicious and taro tea good. 10 star service too.

I lost my purse at this place, and they kept it for me for a whole week.😭😭 The food is authentic and freshly made. Best pineapple beer I've ever had. It's even more addictive than bubble tea.

Google
The food, atmosphere, and service are all 5/5! I love going to malatown when i need something comforting and filling! The food here does just that, i often share it with someone because the portions are quite big. I've tried all of the soup bases and trust me, you can't go wrong with any of them! From mild-spicy, still so flavorful and the spice level is just enough for you to still enjoy the food.

Google
Just coming in to add yet another 5-star review! This place is AMAZING. Fast and healthy. It’s easy to make vegan, since you choose all the ingredients and there’s a vegan tomato broth. Free sauces/oils/hot pepper really completes the flavor. A huge bowl of hotpot usually is $18 or so and it always lasts me for two portions. Very nice helpful staff and there is WiFi and a restroom. Love this place so much!

Google
I come here often and generally like the place — it’s convenient and affordable. But recently, the food has clearly not been as fresh. I suspect you may have changed suppliers? I understand that smaller places often use standard local Chinese supermarket-grade ingredients, but lately the quality has been really disappointing.

Yelp
This store services delicious, mala food. Came on a weekday night before 6pm and there were multiple empty table available (note: we also came during the spring break week of Columbia University). This store allows you to pick out any ingredient you want and they cook it for you. The ingredients include various meat (including beef, lamb, squid, shrimps, etc), vegetables, noodles. The price ($15.99/lb of ingredients), ingredient quality, and various broths/cooking option (including soup vs stir fry) make this the most competitive mala place in Morningside, if not in Manhattan. My huge bowl of bone broth noodle soup came out to ~$17! I finished it all and can't wait to come back again.

Yelp
Fun way to have hot pot steeped in flavorful soup. You come in, grab an oversized bowl and drop protein, veggies, and some sort of carb like noodles. Then you weigh it and pay something around $16/lb. It's really easy to overestimate how much you'll eat. So get less than you think you'll want! Don't skip the sesame paste sauce! It's divine. Our favorite broths Mala Beef bone Tomato

Yelp
Came here for dinner and was surprised that the place was packed. Recently I've been obsessed with these build your own mama pot restaurants. I'm so glad this place opened up in UWS. I also think it's interesting that this is one of the only restaurants that also serve a dry mala pot, although I would say that the dry version of the pot seemed to just be the ingredients stir fried in a little amount of soupy sauce. I appreciate the wide variety of ingredients they have although the labeling could've been better. I will say that YGF Malatang in Union Square probably had more ingredient options compared to this one. The soup was also great, very rich and flavorful. My one small complaint is that the soup itself was pretty salty and you really didn't need more sauce to go with it. Overall, its a good fast eat and one that will satisfy your soup cravings.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my takeout from Mala town. There were a lot of ingredient options, I really liked the hot pot wide noodles and the variety of tofu they had. I had a dry pot and a hot pot and both were good. The medium spicy was a little too spicy for me so I'll have to go with mild next time. This will be a go to spot for me!

Yelp
The restaurant's layout makes every table feel well-placed. Properly, the workers demonstrate consistent friendliness. I trust this spot for a good meal. Each dish demonstrates quality through flavor and freshness. This restaurant welcomes your entire group.

Yelp
I'd highly recommend eating here since their to-go orders may get cold. It's serve yourself/make-your-own bowl here, and they charge by the pound; they'll make the soup and it bring it to you when it's ready (about 5-10min). Medium spicy for their beef broth has got some fair heat. Seats aren't always easy to come by, and the restaurant only has seats for about 20 people, so it can get crowded. It's very easy to over-order, so try to check all the offerings before you start loading your bowls. Mine was about 2lbs ($30) when I realized how much food I had (thankfully, it was about 2-3 meals worth, so I brought it home). Large takeout containers are $1, just FYI. If you're doing takeout, try to avoid cheaper ingredients that you could add yourself (e.g. ramen noodles) to save on cost and poundage, especially since the noodles will get soggy on the trip home anyway. Same mentality if you can't finish your meal and wanna take leftovers (as in eat the noodles first since they'll get soggy). Broth was delicious and the ingredients are fairly fresh and tasty. For myself, I shouldn't have added so many sausages, but I liked the filled fish balls and fish tofu. Anyway, I'd definitely go back!

Yelp
This place is quickly becoming one of my favorite. I love the ability to pick what ingredients we want by ourselves and choose a variety of seasoning and broth/dry option. Food was very good, spice level was not bad (I chose the max spicy and it has a punch but tolerable), it's perfect for cold nights. Prices are very reasonable, especially compare to their competitor. Also love that they have extra sauces and garnishes on the side. Service was also very quick. It can get crowded around dinner time and tables get snatched up quickly. I witnessed some verbal fighting about tables because it's first come first serve. I would suggest coming in earlier than 6pm to have a good chance for a table or get take out.

Yelp
So glad this place opened up in the neighborhood! They do single-serve hotpot. When you enter you can just grab a bowl and tongs and fill up your bowl with ingredients ($14.99 per pound), weigh your bowl by the register, and pick one of their soup bases and specify your spice level. My bowl ended up being around 1.1 pounds, and I got the mala dry hotpot (medium spice). Medium spice wasn't too spicy for me, and I really liked the dry pot! I also tried my friend's beef bone broth, which was really good and I'd definitely come back and get it next time.

Yelp
This is my first mala-tang experience, and the experience is fun! Their mala-tang is so delicious that I felt like I was introduced to a whole new world. As summer approaches, I strongly recommend getting their satay dry pot mix. It is a brothless satay sauce, packed with sweet and salty peanut flavor. A summer option for those who don't want to eat hotpot while wiping the sweat away. They also offer a variety of soup base, including their bestselling beef bone soup, tom yum soup and tomato soup. For the ingredients, I enjoyed the lucky bag -- it was stuffed with actual shrimp and shrimp paste. Their beef and pork are of high quality and they replace the meat with new batches regularly. You can even get abalone and mussels from the seafood section! We picked mild spicy for all the bowls, which was too mild for us and we will def go for medium next time. You can also add more spice later if it's not enough. Here are 4 easy steps to customize your own mala-tang: 1. Pick the hot pot ingredients, including meat, seafood, tofu, fishballs, veggies and noodles. 2. Weight your bowl. You are charged based on the weight ($14.99/lb). 3. Choose your broth and spice level. 4. Make your own sauce at the sauce bar. As a self-service casual spot, their staff are really friendly and helpful, and the environment is clean.

Yelp
I love eating hotpot regardless of the weather especially since there's either dry or soup hotpot! The staff was friendly and helpful. This is a great laidback spot for a hangout with friends! At Mala Town you can build your own hotpot by adding all the ingredients you want into a bowl which is weighed (with the bowl weight already deducted) and the price is calculated by $14.99/pound. our 2 bowls weighed 1.57lbs and 2.03lbs, and it was enough food for us! Then you can pick your soup base/ flavor. I got the mild spice bone broth soup and mild savory dry mix - both were delicious! They have your typical hotpot ingredients like fish balls, meats, noodles, veggies and also cute ones like money bags stuffed with meat and paw shaped fish balls! the beef bone broth was really good - umami! The dry hotpot (savory dry mix) was also fantastic, I loved it with the wide noodles! We got mild spice for both but the dry hotpot def had more heat which was fantastic.

Yelp
Staff is very cheap! She refuse to offer you a second small cap for sauce if you order takeout. Yup, just a sauce‍

Yelp
What would you put in your bowl? The combinations are endless at Mala Town with so many different types of meat, fish and veggies all weighed by the pound! There are 5 different bases (Beef Bone Broth, Dry Hot Pot, Tom Yum Soup, Tomato Flavored Broth and Chicken Broth) to cook all of the fresh ingredients you pick out! You pick out your ingredients and everything is cooked in the back. Casual but nice place! Service was super fast! There is a sauce bar as well to further customize your hotpot bowl! Mala Town is a great option for easy and fast hot pot in NYC! Insta: @thehungrysw

Yelp
Mala Town is great for the price! If you don't eat a ton of food, the $15.99 per lb price isn't bad at all. I thought it was a great portion for $15! Lots of good options for vegetarians, meat eaters, etc.! The mild savory dry spice was still pretty spicy to me but I don't have a super high spice tolerance. Still great flavor! Definitely recommend to get your hotpot fix in Upper West Side!

Yelp
Yesterday, when I went to this restaurant, I was shocked by the rude behavior of the staff. When it was my turn to pick from the food shelf, the female staff member rudely ordered me to step aside so they could quickly prepare online platforms takeout orders. When I asked, "Aren't I also a customer?" the female staff member replied, "Fantuan takeout orders are time-limited, so I have to serve them first." This blatant discrimination against dine-in customers is absolutely ridiculous. On top of that, the other staff members had terrible attitudes as well--when answering questions, they wouldn't even turn their heads back or acknowledge you, making it clear they had no interest in helping.

Yelp
I eat here regularly and love their food. It can get quite crowded during peak hours, though. Please bring back your Tom Yum broth! It was amazing!

Yelp
Delicious and fast. I appreciated that you can grab your own ingredients so that you can customize how much of each item you want. We went on a weekday at 6 and they were already out of beef slices which I was looking forward to the most. But the rest of the ingredients were tasty anyway. Most people were getting soups and noodles but I opted for a side of rice. Will definitely try the noodles next time.

Yelp
Small restaurant without that much seating, but the atmosphere was nice and the food was delicious. My friends and I all opted for the dry pot option (as opposed to the various broth offerings) and I loaded my bowl up with a wide variety of ingredients - have a good mix of noodle options, seafood, vegetables, and meat. Would recommend and would go back.

Yelp
MalaTown never disappoints! The broth is super flavorful with just the right amount of numbing spice, and everything tastes so fresh. I always go for the beef tripe and lotus root--they soak up the broth perfectly. It's the kind of place that makes you sweat but in the best way. Definitely my go-to spot when I'm craving real Sichuan heat!

Yelp
This place is great. Only thing I wish for is a non spicy beef bone broth. Tasty nonetheless. They charge by the pound. What a great concept! Highly recommended.

Yelp
I want to start by saying this establishment is a very, very clean, hygienic, and organized and I love that. As far as the service goes, I think the customer service is pretty good. I'm not sure if we were just having a miscommunication but overall, I would say the service is good and nobody was intentionally rude. The food is super fresh and tasted really good. I wish the menu had a build your own spring roll option, but I definitely will be coming back here in recommend people try it

Yelp

Yelp
Every time we go to Mala Town it is delicious. I swear it's addicting! I get it twice a week. Service is curt and quick and ambiance is casual. It's tight in there, so I wouldn't recommend going during peak dinner hours!

Riley M.

Yelp
The food never disappoints. This place is built for efficiency. Even when it's packed, the wait is quick and the food is as amazing as always. The option to select exactly what and how much goes into your bowl is unique and adds to the experience as a whole. We come once a week and will continue to come many many ti

Yelp
No more long subways to Queens for hotpot. Best hangover soup ever! Fresh seafood and delicious broth. I recommend the Tomato.

Huang Y.

Yelp
The best mini hot pot in jersey city, strongly recommend to everyone living near. Very good Chinese food, authentic spicy food!

Stephen X.

Yelp
Great flavor and good portion food! Plenty selection of ingredients to choose from. The savory dry pot mix base is a must try.

Wilarut T.

Yelp
Very clean place, nice and close to subway. Easy to find this place I love it. Mala in NYC

Brianna T.

Yelp
If you're craving hot pot I would definitely recommend checking this place out! The place is efficient and it's fun that you can just take a bowl and put all the ingredients in that you want! They have a few soup bases to choose from, if you don't know which to get, you can't go wrong with the classic beef broth! It which was delicious! The ingredients seemed pretty fresh. The service was great! there were bunch of tables inside, it did the job.
