Satay Malaysian Review - Hoboken - The Infatuation

"The menu at this spot off Washington includes a lot of mostly Chinese and Malaysian dishes, with the number-one star being the roti canai. It would take you at least a few months to go through their entire menu, but we recommend you start your journey with the spicy flat noodles, dumplings, and the aforementioned roti. Their charming indoor space is great for a quick weeknight meal, but we love this spot most for its reliable takeout." - Team Infatuation

The 14 Best Asian Restaurants Where Bellevue Meets Redmond | Eater Seattle

"Despite being a far cry from its heyday in the Chinatown-International District, when “grandma” made roti at the front window, but in its Redmond home Malay Satay still serves up satisfying food that isn’t commonly found around Seattle yet touches nostalgic points. Recommended dishes include the aforementioned roti canai, Malaysian laksa, mango chicken, Malaysian pork chops, and Belachan string beans." - Jay Friedman

Came with my dear friend and they have an amazing Malaysian food. The chef Veronica is the most nicest chef I met. I just wish their wait staffs could do a better service.

My wife and I recently had the pleasure of dining at Malay Satay Hut in Bellevue. Upon arrival, we requested the Halal menu, which was thoughtfully provided as a separate offering from the standard menu—a much-appreciated consideration for guests with specific dietary needs. For our meal, we ordered the Nasi Goreng—a fragrant and flavorful fried rice dish prepared with prawns and Halal chicken. It was exceptionally well-balanced and thoroughly enjoyable, easily the highlight of our meal. We also tried the Malay Satay. While the satay was prepared well, we found that the flavor profile and accompanying sauce didn’t quite align with our personal taste preferences, so we’ll refrain from offering a rating on that dish. The portion sizes were generous, providing more than enough for the two of us. We were pleasantly satisfied and even had enough to take home, which speaks to the value offered. Overall, our experience at Malay Satay Hut was positive, and we would not hesitate to recommend it to others seeking authentic Malaysian cuisine with Halal options available.

Loved the nasi lemak with rendang, the curry was rich and flavorful, with tender chunks of beef. Enjoyed the yam ring, was as good as those in Singapore.

I recently dined at Malay Satay Hut and had an excellent experience. The restaurant offers a wide variety of delicious food options that cater to all tastes. It's a fantastic place for family dining, with a welcoming atmosphere that makes it ideal for spending quality time with loved ones. The service was prompt and friendly, adding to the overall positive experience. I highly recommend Malay Satay Hut for anyone looking for great food and a family-friendly environment.

Google
Got laksa, lobak and nasi lemak with randang. Laksa is fine, lobak is a unique yuba wrapped pork roll deep fried fantastic. But the nasi lemak really fell short specific with the rice. The rice taste like plain white rice instead of coconut rice. Rendang is great, nice and tender and spiced well. Réunion has a better laksa and a much better nasi lemak but this place has a much more extensive menu. Mandarin speaking wait staff.

We ordered 2 dishes. The hainan chicken was just so-so. The stir-fries noodles was good.

🥘: 7/10. I came here with 2 friends after hiking and we are all exhausted and really hungry! We ordered the deep fried pork intestine, curry beef hot pot, Singapore rice noodle and Laksa! Super delicious and really love the beef brisket and the potato in the hotpot! Best I have ever had! I also think that it might be good to add some flavors to the Laksa to make it dmstand out more. 🧑🏻‍🍳: 9/10: Service is great, very friendly staff and all aunties are really attentive and very kind! They are all incredible and nice! Their service are making me feel like home! Super authentic and good impression ! 📍: 7/10: The restaurant is very nicely decorated with a lot of cultural paintings and bamboos! It's giving me a good impression of like I am in Malaysia! Also the paintings and the decors really made me feel like Malay! They also have a big parking lot, in a nice location and everything is clean!

Some of the food was pretty good, I just had a bad experience because the noodles I got came with about 3 pieces of bite sized meat and that's it. My noodles were also very oily and I didn't really like it. Besides that, they almost forgot to bring me my dish. On a happier note, the lamb and the chicken are great

Yelp
We first went to Malay Satay Hut way back when it was one location in Little Saigon decades ago. Loved it. Not big on atmosphere but definitely big on savory goodness. In between then I went to the Redmond location for lunch multiple times with friends and customers. Always enjoyable. The better half wanted something out of our normal routine and we hadn't been for a while and just realized there was a location in Bellevue. We ordered the Hainan chicken plate, roti with curry dip, tofu with vegetables curry and salted fish / chicken fried rice to go for enjoying at home. Yum. We had a chance to visit Kuala Lumpur years ago and loved the food there as it was this crazy good mashup of Chinese, Indian, Thai and other Asian styles. This was a fun way to recall that trip for sure.

Yelp
This place was my to go place for late dinner many years ago. Visited again at the new location and I noticed significant degradation in food quality and service. Ordered multiple dishes yesterday. It took a long time to get all the dishes. Food quality is mediocre at best. Fry noodle dishes lack the wok-hei, and Hainanese Chicken is no longer tender. Rice is hard and not flavorful. Ping pong guy, if you are still here, it's time to fix this place.

Yelp
Was craving Malaysian food after a trip to Malaysia but sadly left a bit disappointed. I ordered a curry noodle dish (forgot the name and having trouble finding it on the menu), but it basically had noodles, potatoes, and chicken tossed in a curry sauce. It also came with a bowl of some kind of soup. Overall I thought the flavor was pretty good, though it would've been nice to include more chicken in the dish. We also had some satay to share amongst our table, which was pretty good as well (but again, larger portion would be appreciated). Service is where my visit really fell short - we were left waiting for our food for what seemed like 30+ minutes. Staff wasn't that friendly either and did not come to check on us at all. Will maybe try coming during off hours next time as the long wait is what's deterring me from going back.

Yelp
I wouldn't recommend this place. Went there for lunch because I was craving Hainanese chicken rice and Laksa. There were only 4 tables including us and when we were ready to order, all 3 of the waitresses were standing behind the counter chit chatting and we had to really wave them down to get their attention. During our order, we wanted some roti and the waitress said we'll have to charge you $1 more because it has eggs and you know how expensive eggs are these days. Really? The cost of each menu items can just go up on a whim? Ok, fine a dollar more. With only 4 tables, it took a long time for our order to come out and the table who ordered after us got theirs order first, we almost wanted to walk out. The Hainanese chicken is pretty much just cold chopped chicken with rice and soup on the side and that was one of the last dishes to come out. The Laksa noodle soup was pretty good and flavorful but my Hainanese chicken rice was very disappointing. For $20, the chicken was all emaciated, pretty much just skin and bones. Just got a wing, the drumette and some of the rib parts. No breast meat and barely anything to eat so ended up with a plate of bones. The rice and soup was bland as well, definitely not worth the price they are charging.

Yelp
There was nothing special about this Malaysian restaurant. Everything was fine. The taste was average. Service was average. They took over Young's Cafe with minimal renovations. If you're looking for a Malaysian Singaporean quick fix, this may hit the spot, but it was nothing special to me.

Yelp
Super delicious food with an expansive menu! Highly recommend the oyster omelet and the roti as appetizers. Everything was cooked super well and we will definitely be back to try more! The service is very fast but it can be difficult getting the server's attention even if it is a quiet night due to the layout of the restaurant.

Yelp
Was quite excited about the new location. We used to love this restaurant when we were kids but about 8 years ago, the dishes changed. Maybe the chef changes? We found it in a new location. Supposedly, it got moved to the new location 2 months ago. Waitress was super nice. Interior was nice. We ordered a few dishes. Green beans with shrimp was okay. Chose yellow noodle with curry Laksa. This dish was quite disappointing. Lack of flavor and ingredients. There are quite a few pieces of tofu. Two pieces of shrimp and some fish balls.. Got roti Canai.. Roti was good but very small amount of curry sauce. Not a good ratio. The best dish was probably the beef satay skewered. Satay sauce was good! Not sure if I will come back. May try to give it another chance int he future for other dishes since I love Malaysian food.

Yelp
I'm not sure what Malaysian food is supposed to taste like, everything I've had before is always some sort of asian mixture. We got the indian bread, chicken satay, water spinach, and beef chow fun. I put the chicken in the bread and used both dipping sauces and so the bread was salty and the chicken was sweet but I actually think they went well together. The vegetable were standard but the chow fun was really oily even though it was good. But my friend said it was an unfair review because we didn't try any of their specialities like the hainanese chicken or the nasi lemak so I'll be back to try those and give an updated opinion.

Yelp
Their new location by the Lake Hill Library in Lake Hills Village seems smaller than their old location in Overlake Center Shopping mall. This place is always busy! They don't take reservations so prepare to wait. We've been to their new location twice now (two Saturdays in a row...it was that good! LOL). What we've had so far: BBQ Pompano Fish - whole fish, fried, topped with this very delicious sauce! Flavorful! It had head, but not overpowering. Highly recommend! Vegetarian Fried Rice - pleasantly surprised that this dish was flavorful. Signature Duck Egg Char Kway Teow - we were expecting either whole duck eggs or sliced duck eggs (hard boiled). This is a noodle dish (flat noodles) with some vegetables and scrambled duck eggs. This dish was a bit one note for me. It was good, but nothing to rave about. Oyster Omelet - definitely can see and taste the oysters. It was good and flavorful but I can only eat so much of it. Kang Kung Belachan - stir fried water spinach with shrimp paste. Tasty! Curry Laksa with yellow noodle - Rich coconut curry noodle soup with fish balls, fried tofu, shrimp, bean sprouts and hard boiled egg. Good dish, but I've had better curry laksa elsewhere. Winter Melon Longan Juice - it was good but too sweet for me. Durian Smoothie - I liked this smoothie better than the Winter Melon Longan Juice because it wasn't as sweet. But if you haven't had durian before, durian has an off-putting smell. The durian scent is not as strong in the smoothie though. Staff are friendly. Wait staff is a bit disorganized maybe because they are understaffed for how busy the place gets.

Yelp
Went for lunch here & tried out several dishes. The star of the restaurant is the Mee Siam noodles. Great flavor with shrimp & fried tofu. Don't miss it. Pineapple fried rice - below average. Yam pot, you will like it if you like taro. Wonton noodle soup was too plain. Green beans & shrimp was good. Overall, good but smaller portions on the noodle dishes. Nice interior. Good service.

Brenda S.

Yelp
The broth was as still as water, utterly lacking in flavor. It contained only two shrimp, a couple of pieces of tofu, 2 fishball and fish tofu cut in halves and half an overcooked egg. The portion felt minimal and uninspired, disappointing my expectations. The waitress, however, was prompt and courteous. Additionally, the newly opened restaurant maintained a clean and inviting atmosphere.

Yelp
Went to try their new location in Lake Hills for lunch. The new space is bright and clean, with contemporary feel. Menu appears to be the same maybe a couple new items .Taste good but portion seems to be smaller than before. Good service overall, don't mind coming back.

Yelp
So so so good! Every dish was absolutely fabulous. Flavors are delicious, portions are plentiful, service is spot-on and space is very updated and clean. Highly recommend this gem!

Yelp
I was surprised that this place was delicious. We ordered oyster pancake, kang kong, hainanese chicken, salted egg golden fried prawn, laksa, roti, salt and pepper pork chop, and pork intestines. The salted egg fried shrimp/prawn was very delicious. Super crispy! The roti was also great. The hainanese chicken was also good. They have a parking lot so it will be easy to park here. The waiters were very attentive. The place is good for family style sharing. Definitely, order some of these favorites above.

Yelp
The new location has HORRIBLE SERVICE, not welcoming of large parties with children. The food is also mediocre now. Which is unfortunate as I've been a fan since their International District days 25 years ago, and a regular patron of their Bellevue Overlake location. Maybe they have had an ownership change as well. We were a group of 4 families with children, 6 - 12 years old. We walked in 1 min late, were greeted 3 mins later. But the main person barked at us for being late. Then while were being seated, she told us our children were loud. The kids were excited to see each other but they were no louder than any normal children their age. They were definitely not shouting, chaotic or running around. So, we were baffled at what the problem was. They didn't give us enough menus (for the adults) and immediately started asking for what we're going to order. They were out of a lot of the dishes that we wanted to order, which wouldn't be an issue except for how they behaved with us when we were ordering. A little bit later, they again came and shushed the kids themselves! We go to restaurants together regularly and it has never been an issue, so that was completely uncalled for! They also didn't give us enough silverware and never filled up our water. I had to go get a water pitcher from another empty table. The bill included the service charge, which explains why they felt they can get away with such bad behavior. But we're lost at why they behaved like that with us. We will never be back and never recommend them to others.

Amy C.

Yelp
Ambiance and service of this place was great. Updated look from the original Malay Satay Hut and the servers were very friendly. However, pricey dishes. The portion was on the smaller size. What you see in the menu doesn't quite match what you end up getting. It's like the pictures in the menu were enlarged. When we got what we ordered it was disappointing...first thought that came to my mind was "that's it?" Food matters to me more than the atmosphere...don't think I will be coming back. Wish they spent the money on providing tasty food and decent portion size than the design of the restaurant.

Yelp
Been going there since opening in China town . Love the place . The chicken satay is delicious.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place, I was super excited to have a local Malaysian restaurant. But 4 dishes and $74 later, I have to be honest. We ordered the vegetarian fried rice, Singapore noodles, vegetarian curry tofu pot, and chicken satay. The best dish of all of these, was the Singapore noodles. Chicken satay, well one of my chicken skewers was pink , so that was a damper. The other skewers were just okay in flavor and the peanut sauce that came with it was flavorless. The vegetarian curry, was again just okay, very thin curry. The vegetarian fried rice, bland , it tasted like regular white rice. I hate that this is a not stellar review but again , I'm doing my best to give honest feedback. Would I repeat my order, sadly no. Maybe my expectations were too high since I have been to Singapore and I have had these same dishes there, that very well could be. The restaurant inside is quite large and the staff are friendly. But for me it's all about the food.

Yelp
They used to be in Portland, OR, then moved to Redmond, Wa. Also one of the owners warned me that they would be moving again, but not too far away from their current location. I have dreamed about their roti canai for years and have never been able to find a replacement in Portland, or any other Malaysian restaurant I've been to. Even ordered a double order so there would be leftovers. The food arrived super fast, despite the restaurant being busy. The servers were gracious and efficient. The seafood tofu pot was loaded with all sorts of seafood and you definitely get your money's worth. I am definitely coming back the next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
As a born and raised Malaysian, I would recommend this place and reunion cafe over Kedai Makan any day. Like most restaurants, there are some dishes that shine and taste like home, and there's some I wouldn't recommend because of the ingredients we simply don't have here (like the prawn mee noodles, which is a Penang specialty and has too much belacan/shrimp paste here). I'd also recommend getting Malaysian dishes, vs typical dishes you can get from most Asian restaurants because it's probably going to be better elsewhere. -- hainan chicken rice -- Nasi lemak -- Cantonese style chowfun (you can also tell the staff to make it yingyong with half vermicelli noodles and half chowfun -- char kuey teow -- roti canai --rendangs -- curry laksa -- their curry dishes -- hokkien mee -- Buddhist yam pot I've never tried their typical Asian restaurant dishes like Singapore noodles (but I would not recommend as Singapore noodles, as it actually does not exist in Malaysia and Singapore, I believe it originated from hongkong). Basically, order the unfamiliar dishes (actual Malaysian dishes) and you'll be happily surprised. If you order more typical dishes that you see in Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese restaurants it might not live up to expectations, because it's not their specialty (it's probably on the menu to cater to more diners) and it's not Malaysian.

Yelp
I wanted to give this place a raving review because I remembered this place when it was in Seattle. I got the chicken plate which was meh. Taste is fine but there was barely any chicken meat and too many bones. Difficult to eat. Also over priced for broth and rice. Cost is about $20 plus tax. Order something else because I felt ripped off.

Yelp
Delicious dinner! Curry with roti (a fav), Spicy chicken with veg and cashews (great flavor, a little spicy, a little sweet), dry curry veg tofu (my personal fav, love the okra!), spicy prawns (completely addictive), and wide noodles (loved they served the chili sauce on the side so you could flavor to your desired level). Attentive service.

Yelp
Service was SLOWWW and HORRIBLE. We ordered nasi goreng, chicken satay, roti telur, and beef rendang. I he service was slow, we weren't attended to order until maybe after 15mins (and we weren't seated late too which, in a 5pm sunday only 2 tables were filled). Then the rice (nasi goreng) the came first (why?); then waited 20mins as the rice gets cold, of our satay and roti. THEN the beef came in later again. Overpriced of Total $80 for these underwhelming "Malaysian" dishes. Nasi goreng - almost $20 for maybe a cup and half or rice, not spicy and you couldn't taste the spices. Chicken satay- the sauce is not "peanuty" enough, too sweet Roti - not flaky enough, sauce is so so Beef rendang - bland - it's supposed to have a dozen of spices in there that you couldn't taste. The beef was not tender (tough!) and very dry. You couldnt taste the rendang spices like cardamom cinnamon cloves star anise tamarind coconut milk (!) or ginger or lemongrass like ... might just serve boiled tough beef! So for this underwhelming flavor and overpriced menu, it's a disgrace to Malaysian community. Will NEVER go back, and NOT RECOMMENDED.

Yelp
Food is really good. Quite spacious restaurant and a lot of menu choices. Ambience is ok, service is ok. Restaurant's interior is good.

Yelp
Stopped by today for lunch and ordered the Hainanese Chicken and Penang Char Kway Teow. Unfortunately, what I received was incredibly lackluster. The Char Kway Teow contained two small pieces of squid and three small shrimps. The overall taste profile of the dish was somehow... nothing, effectively making it an oily, tasteless plate of noodles, beansprout, and scrambled egg. I would not get this again, nor would I recommend this dish unless my description appeals to you for some reason. The Hainanese Chicken set was more enjoyable, but sadly came with a very small portion chicken and an even smaller amount of sambal and ginger scallion sauce. You're mostly paying for a bowl of rice. While I would normally give a place the benefit of doubt (maybe I picked the wrong items! etc), the overpriced (42$!!), underwhelming experience that I had makes it unlikely that I will return.

Yelp
I used to frequently dined at this place when it was located in the ID in Seattle. It was the first place where I've tried the Hainanese Chicken and Chicken rice. This place was a special place to me, filled with memories. Since they've relocated to Bellevue/Redmond, I always tend to forget about this place until our favorite burger spot, Dick's was super packed with their annual promotion, we opted out and head here instead. Not going lie, I was really excited to spend dinner with the hub here and get what I remember that was delicious. The ambiance was as how I remember it in the ID location. We ordered the Hainanese chicken and the Malaysian style pad thai, and it fell short for me. I was slightly disappointed as it wasn't as flavorful as I remember it used to be. It's almost as if something is missing. While the server was really kind for letting us know that there was a price increase on the chicken dish ahead of ordering but one of my pet peeves is when bringing out the dish, the fingers are touching the food aka the pad thai. So for that, I deducted a star.
google avatar

Monique N.

Yelp
This is a great neighborhood spot to grab some good food to go if the noise level is to loud for you. But if some loud loud social interaction is not a problem, then take a seat. I was so impressed with the one and only server they had. She seamlessly attended to all our needs. We shared the Thai Spice Pompano Fish with an a la cart order of white rice, and Roti Canai. The fish was savory with a lovely sauce. The fish was flaky, tender and and the taste was a good counterpoint to the sauce. The Roti bread was hot and yummy, and the sauce also had a great taste, but was a bit watery. We each had the Thai Ice Tea. Normally it's a to-die for drink for us, but it seemed it may have been pre made and it had a lackluster taste and texture. We ordered a fried rice to go for someone else as they had it before and loved it. No complaints when we got home.

Yelp
Service was super slow and food took forever to come out. Don't go with kids. Hainanese chicken was alright. Satay was chewy. Meh.
google avatar

Diana L.

Yelp
It was my first time trying this place, and now I know I've been missing out! The food was so good! We had the chicken satay, Indian bread, Hainanese chicken, pepper prawns, and a tamarind sauce fish. Everything had robust flavors and cooked perfectly. The service was speedy and everyone was very kind.

Brooke A.

Yelp
The menu here is huge, and there is an abundance of vegan options, as well as lighter and more filling, and mild and spicy dishes. I'll to say, there is definitely something for everyone, but you will spend quite a while, browsing the menu if you're anything like me, and like to weigh your options before ordering. I wanted something light for lunch, so I ordered the mango tofu salad, and we got roti for the table. The mango in the salad was delicious and ripe. The sauce tasted like a typical chili sauce from the bottle, but nonetheless was great. Service was pretty fast, and our waitress was friendly. Others at the table tried noodle-based dishes, from the Malaysian pad Thai to various soups. It's impressive that with such a huge menu, everything comes out fresh and quickly. It's a great lunch option if want to go for something more than chipotle, but are still on a bit of a time crunch.

Yelp
They have some of the best curry. I am not a vegetarian, but I would go for their dry tofu curry again. It had the perfect balance of not sweet and not salty. We also had the beef satay skewers, which were perfectly seasoned. Also, the dry curry beef was delicious as well. The service was great. The wait staff was kind and attentive. The reason it gets 4 stars and not 5 is because the restrooms are not in the best condition. Since I am reviewing not just the food but the restaurant as a whole as well. A 4 star overall but 5 star for food and service. The resturant is very cute. But as I mentioned, the restroom cleanliness and smell need work.

Jocelyn S.

Yelp
The food has always been good! When my family comes from Texas to visit family in Washington, we all come to enjoy this restaurant's Malaysian food every time! Their yam pot, beef remdang, chicken satay , fried pork chop and kang kung are favorite repeats- we try a different dish each time with diff noodles, or fish dishes- always to our delight! We didn't check reg the power outage in town this week but luckily they opened just a little later than usual. The service staff was very attentive and the restaurant setting conducive to friendly gatherings. I would highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Mice. At least 3 of them. Mentioned it to the staff and they were totally nonchalant about it. 'Oh yes we know. Even then health inspectors know. They say there's nothing we can do about it and don't hold it against us' They then add a mandatory 18% service charge to our bill. Washrooms smell rotten too. Food is decent, mediocre or terrible depending on what you order. But really, to have nice running around the place and for the staff to be so blasé about it, is truly awful. I would advise you to avoid this place at all costs.

Yelp
Got there on a Tuesday around 7pm and the restaurants still had a few seatings left. However, it was obvious it was very short staffed as there were only two waitresses on the floor, and it took around 15 minutes until they came and greeted and seated us. I'm guessing the kitchen was understaffed as well since we had to wait longer than normal until our dishes were being brought out. The waitresses are still polite despite being overloaded. Parking was fairly simple in the plaza. Plenty of spots although it can fill up when it gets busy, but still, you'll most likely find a spot in less than a minute walk away. We ordered the Curry Beef Brisket in Pot, Hainanese Chicken, Roti Canai, Penang Chow Kueh Teow, Buddhist Yam Pot and two bowls of rice. I would say most of the dishes were done okay, nothing amazing or out of this world, but it was okay. The buddhist yam pot was interesting, might want to give it a try at least once :)

Yelp
Malay Satay Hut is a place you probably have driven by many times but always passed by. They are hidden in the plaza next to Seoul hot pot. If you are craving a variety of Asian food this is the place to go. This would also be good for a group meal as they have some big round tables on the side that offer some privacy. We recently got take out with the Hainan chicken, salt and pepper spare ribs, and pineapple fried rice with pork floss. The Hainan chicken comes with 3 different sauces one that is spicy, one ginger based that I like to slather on the chicken, and one that is soy based. The pineapple fried rice was flavorful plus the pork floss added a nice savory element to this dish. The spare ribs had all the Right spices, tender, and a little kick with the pepper added. I would go back to this place and like to try some other dishes.

Yelp
I got some delivery from this place, and though the food was tasty I felt it was a bit overpriced for what you get. Satay- nice lemongrass flavor, though the meat was a tad leaner than I prefer. Hainan chicken- the dipping sauces were authentic, though the actual chicken was a far cry from what I've had in Singapore. Bak Khu Teh- was pleasantly surprised they had this, and it was a fairly faithful recreation. The amount of meat was kind of disappointing though.

Yelp
Great restaurants to have around granted south east asia (SEA) cuisine deficiency in the area. Some of poor review over authenticity and price are nonsense. Can't always expect 100% authentic food at low price, unless you're in SEA. Been there done that. It can probably be better, but for what it is, this is good enough for it to exist in area where it isn't so much a melting pot.

Yelp
Food is tasty but service is exceptionally bad and waiters are rude. In our case we had a reservation but they somehow missed it. Then they took a really long time to get food out. We checked in once asking how much longer the food was going to be, and the waiter gave us attitude for some reason saying "in America the tables that order first get food first and we weren't the first to order" (huh???!). Also the bathroom was not clean and out of paper. Food is good though. If you decide to go, I suggest the Yam veggie pot.

Yelp
Oftentimes, I find that some of the best Asian restaurants tend to only receive around three stars on Yelp and this one definitely falls into that category. The food here is insanely good and there were plenty of available tables on a Wednesday at 7PM. The parking in the plaza is super easy to find as well and I would highly recommend this underrated gem. Roti Canai (4.5/5): This appetizer is criminally simple and delicious. Pieces of flaky roti served with a light curry is just one of the best combinations in existence. Plus, it's a Malaysian classic, so if it's your first time trying Malaysian food, it's a lovely introduction. Buddhist Yam Pot (4.5/5): A classic chicken, shrimp, and vegetable stir fry served atop a bowl of perfectly crunchy fried taro. I'd never seen or eaten anything like it before, but it was absolutely delicious and didn't feel too heavy.

Yelp
I ordered Hainan chicken rice, oyster fried, bak kut teh and other very conventional dishes, so bad that I doubt life, can not understand why so many people recommend. The oyster fry is fishy and not crispy, the Hainanese chicken rice is huge and the small chicken is soft, the bak kut teh is thinner than what is scooped out of the canteen bowl, and they are not cheap at all

Yelp
This place hits the spot every time I'm craving Malaysian food. As someone who's lived in Malaysia for 10+ years, I can def say the food here tastes authentic. My group of 3 came here for dinner on a weeknight and we ordered roti canai, chicken satay, mee goreng, char kuay teow, and curry laksa. Honestly everything was 5/5 except the mee goreng. That was sweeter than we expected, but still flavorful. The portion sizes are pretty big and you will probably have a lot of leftovers esp. if you order appetizers... but the roti canai and satay were too good to pass up. The ambiance of the place is great too. Love the decor, reminded me of restaurants back in Malaysia. The only con of tonight was the service for me. Our food did take a little while to come out but it wasn't too bad. It also looked like there was only one server on the floor, which was probably why service was a little slow.

Yelp
Malay Satay Hut has such a big and delicious menu! I wanted to try everything but settled for the roti canai and mee goreng noodles. Both hit the spot for brunch! Service was quick and the food came out hot and sizzling. My noodles were super tasty and the portion was perfect for family style sharing. I can't wait to come back and try their nasi lemak and other noodle dishes! Malay Satay Hut definitely does their part to represent Malaysia through their ambiance, service and food!

Yelp
Please stay away and save your money for businesses that are more honest, respect their customers, and have actual standards! Inedible food that reeked and was likely sitting in the back for days without use. Brought it up to the service staff and they proceeded to ignore my concern and do nothing about it. I wasn't looking for a refund, but they didn't even acknowledge my problem, apologize, nor do anything to remediate the situation. Instead they gaslit me about how it's supposed to be like that without even taking a look for themselves. It's appalling how the customer is always wrong! (I don't mind being incorrect, but they immediately wanted to fight! lol)

Yelp
I was so disappointed when Malay Satay Hut's shop in Seattle closed after a fire ... so now I make the trek to Redmond to get the same food. I just love their food. My favorites are: 1) Belachan string beans with shrimp 2) Ginger chicken But there are all kinds of other good dishes: Mee Goreng, chicken satay, Malaysian fried rice, black pepper crab ... the list is long. Their on-line menu (a PDF) includes pictures of almost everything. I tend to stick with dishes they do well (Malaysian or from Singapore) and to avoid the less traditional dishes (beef pepper steak with onions). That may just be personal preference, but my inclination is to focus on things that are close to their roots.
