"No one should come to Malbec Market for a quick meal. This sandwich counter and hot food bar in Eagle Rock is more of a wine-with-lunch type of place, somewhere you want to linger for a bit with your Slack notifications on mute. On sit-down visits, we always get the pulpo con chorizo. This grilled octopus is charred on all sides and coated in a spicy, smoky chorizo ragu with lots of paprika. But if you're really in a hurry, the choripan on baguette with sharp provolone and vinegary chimichurri is our favorite grab-and-go option. " - Sylvio Martins
"Malbec is one of the few DineLA restaurants where take-out is an option. Lunch comes with three courses including a starter grilled Argentine sausage, skirt steak stewed pasta entree, and gelato for $25." - Mona Holmes
"Malbec Market is a sandwich counter and hot food bar in Eagle Rock that encourages people to sit down with a glass of wine instead of frantically running out the door with a chopped salad in hand. The choripan on baguette is our go-to sandwich with its sharp provolone and chimichurri sauce, but we’re also huge fans of their pulpo con chorizo. This grilled octopus comes tender and nicely charred with a smoky chorizo ragu coating the whole dish. The entraña al Malbec is also delicious, with a thick, agrodolce wine sauce slathered all over the skirt steak. This sauce won’t necessarily replace that lunchtime glass of red, but it’s close enough." - Sylvio Martins
"When stating requirements for a quality empanada, the dough to filling ratio is crucial. Pastry consistency runs a close second, and the crew at Eagle Rock’s Malbec Market gets them right. Malbec Market is a no-frills deli and that opened in 2016 on Colorado Boulevard. The menu maintains simple bites, with options that include tapas, and very respectable hot and cold sandwiches. But the victor is the spinach cheese empanada. Malbec’s empanadas are exactly what you hope for after taking a bite. The dough is firm, but not thick and doesn’t overwhelm the filling. The dough is lightly salted, and pieces of spinach and cheese are perfectly balanced. Two or three can easily make a perfect meal." - Crystal Coser
