‘Chopped’ Champion Chef Becky Brown Opens Malibu Barbie Cafe Pop-Up in Houston | Eater Houston

"An immersive, traveling pop-up created by Mattel in partnership with Bucketlisters channels 1970s Malibu beachside and has toured cities including New York, Chicago, Miami and Minneapolis’s Mall of America; it's currently staged at Junction HTX on Washington Avenue through mid-October. Chef Becky Brown — a Chopped winner who also competed on MasterChef — leads a bright, farm-to-table menu that mixes homemade and fresh ingredients to evoke an "endless summer" vibe: West Coast Wave salads with chickpea tahini (option to add grilled chicken), bright pink beet hummus with fresh pita, a vegan Cali‑flower bowl of roasted cauliflower, quinoa, scallions and tahini, and cheesy smash burgers with grilled onions and a secret sauce for a diner-esque feel. Brunch offerings include pink confetti pancakes topped with whipped cream and shimmering cinnamon-sugar, thick-cut maple bacon, and gooey grilled cheeses made with gruyère, cheddar and gouda plus fig jam and fresh fig. The bar program, overseen by Nyeri Stepanian, features flirty, fruity cocktails such as a Groovy Arnold Palmer (sweet tea vodka, peach, lemonade and mint) and beach mojitos (rum, St. Germain, lime and mint) with chef touches like dried dragon fruit. The pop-up pairs food with interactive attractions — face painters, a rollerskating rink and photo ops including a life-sized doll box, lifeguard chair and beachy backdrops — sells themed memorabilia, and offers $25 tickets (via the Bucketlisters app or website) that include a food and merchandise credit." - Brittany Britto Garley

A Barbie-themed Pop-Up Restaurant Is Coming to Houston | Eater Houston

"Opening Aug. 16 through mid-October at Junction HTX on Washington Avenue, this pop-up recreates a family-friendly Malibu 1970s–inspired Barbie world produced by the brand owner and Bucket Listers after successful runs in New York, Chicago, Miami, and Mall of America. MasterChef finalist Becky Brown has crafted a fast-casual menu of relaxed all-day and brunch fare—highlights include rainbow pancakes, melty grilled cheeses, pretty chia seed parfaits, pink dips, assorted desserts, and bright pink drinks—and tickets ($25) bought through the Bucket Listers app include a food and merchandise credit. Visitors can enjoy an on-site rollerskating rink (with $1 skate rentals, proceeds donated to Girls Inc.) and themed programming such as cupcake-decorating classes, paint parties, and 21-and-up skate nights." - Brittany Britto Garley

Please do not waste your money or your time here. It’s not going to be fun for your kids and you will spend over $200 on something that shouldn’t require a reservation. Poorly executed, cute idea. Food is not what is pictured online, very obviously frozen with condensation still present on the items. Drinks are severely overpriced at $15 for a mocktail which are dyed tonic water and not drinkable. Fruit cup pictured is $8, everything is tiny with a full portion cost. Skating rink is specifically for small kids and floors are textured. Cleanliness was non existent, with the bathrooms being horrible as pictured there were used sanitary pads and trash on the floor. While we were there is was not packed or overwhelmed the only reason for this condition is lack of staff or lack of caring. As others have said gratuity is automated so there’s not real reason for extra effort from staff but honestly it just seems needed because management knows no one would tip based on what’s happening in there. Total lack of fun all around so they may be burnt out. Which makes sense

I totally get some of the reviews because it’s not like this was the best thing ever. HOWEVER it was fun to check out, the food and drinks weren’t bad, staff is very friendly, and there are a bunch of cute photo opportunities! We went on a weekday so not sure if that made it nicer but it was clean and we got a lot of cute pictures so I can’t complain! Now for my standard comments. Interior is kept clean and seating is comfortable.

This is an honest review. This place is exactly what it advertises. Nothing more. This is a perfect place for Barbie lovers to take pictures & take selfies. From beginning to end. The experience was just a look at the decor place. The food & drinks are on the same level as McDonald's. Nothing fancy. But no one comes here for the food, they come for the Barbie experience & that is what this place gives you. That being said, the prices for everything are WAY overpriced for what you get. Drinks, food & the gift shop area are ridiculously priced for the quality. I'm not a fan of the automatic gratuity of 20% added, but I was made aware when I made my reservation. If anyone expects a rainbow lodge quality food at a place like this, they need to open their eyes to where they are. For what could make this place better. Lower the food/ drink prices all by $7-3. Rename to Malibu Barbie Snack Shack. Have the staff wear different, more Barbie bright vibrant color shirts rather than the faded pink/ white shirt. My personal experience was decent. Not bad at all other than just the reservation ticket price & others was too much.

I don't now why the people is sayin the the experience is bad ....... I was 3!days ago with my family and a the food was very good, the drinks delicious ...... the personal is very very nice ...... The square is very full I always imagine that for the same reason the food takes a little.but mi familia disfruto mucho la experiencia . I'm talking about my daughters ..... because for us adults I think there's not much to see.

My daughter and I were really excited about the Malibu Barbie experience. The decor inside was cute, and there were several stations with props for Instagram-worthy photos. However, when we arrived, the staff warned us that the second floor was hot, but we didn’t think much of it at the time. Once inside, we sat down to order food with the credit included in our tickets. My daughter ordered a spinach artichoke dip, a fruit cup, and a Coke. The Coke came in a very small cup, and for $5, you only get one refill, which felt overpriced. When the spinach artichoke dip arrived, my daughter took one bite and couldn’t eat it—it tasted off, like fish. We had to return it, and the waitress commented, “I don’t know what’s going on today, but everyone is returning the spinach artichoke dip. My apologies.” If so many people are returning it, why continue serving it? Next, we asked for the fruit cup, which never came until we reminded the server again. After 20 minutes, it finally arrived, but it looked old, and my daughter said it tasted stale. We decided to focus on enjoying the venue despite the disappointing food. However, the second floor was uncomfortably hot, and there were only a few pedestal fans to help with the heat. Overall, this experience wasn’t worth $25 per person. There weren’t enough photo props, the food was terrible, and the service was mediocre. I would not recommend spending your money here.

Although we had a reservation, we were seated 45 min late. They offered us a table outside under the promise of providing umbrellas to cover us from the sun, however they were broken and kept felling constantly. Our table was dirty, the menus they gave us were sticky. Finally, the waitress was not kind.

Came in today with my princess’s and we had so much fun! The food & drinks were really good. The atmosphere was a 10! Great job with the Barbie theme! 🩷

As others have stated, highly overpriced for what you get. Nothing was served on a plate as in photos posted by the venue. Plastic punch cups for our highly overpriced drinks. There were 7 of us so we paid $175 just to get in. With &10 each off ($70) we still paid almost $200 for very poor quality food. And that was sharing food! The kid working the souvenir stand was extremely rude. The venue was cute but we did expect more.
