Malix

"This Polanco spot offers sidewalk tables, a bar area with a U-shaped counter, and seating at tables in a rear dining room where the kitchen is on display. Throughout, the room boasts a creamy color palette with latte lacquered tables, beige leather banquettes, and light wood- accented concrete walls.Malix's free-roaming menu incorporates Mexican cuisine as well as global influences in items like pâté with madeleines and pickles; a selection of local cheeses; and house-made Lao-style sausage. There is a respect for sustainable gastronomy, as the menu highlights a long list of local producers. The grilled duck breast is a worthwhile recommendation, presented with crisped skin, wedges of figs and beets, plated with a house mole, and accompanied by a stack of excellent tortillas." - Michelin Inspector

What To Do in Polanco, Mexico City: Our Guide | Condé Nast Traveler

"Malix holds down two storefronts with their doors thrown open to the street; one side, a small grocery for organic produce, jarred and tinned comestibles, and a display refrigerator full of hanging meat and charcuterie, the other a small circular bar with tall stools. Though the restaurant uses a Mayan word for street dog or “mutt,” the young, talented chef Alonso Madrigal carries quite a pedigree. Having cooked at Noma, Kaan, and Rosetta among others, he dexterously taps into Mexican roots and carefully sourced ingredients, turning out small plates with strong, earthy flavors and delicate plating. The dishes showcase prime local ingredients like heirloom beans, wild herbs, and mushrooms from the valleys surrounding Central Mexico. He makes a weekly trip to Ozumba, an open-air, Tuesday-only farmers market, the holy grail for Mexico City chefs." - Susannah Rigg, Scarlett Lindeman

Malix — Restaurant Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"What were your first impressions when you arrived?   Malix holds down two storefronts with their doors thrown open to the street; one side, a small grocery for organic produce, jarred and tinned comestibles and a display refrigerator full of hanging meat and charcuterie, the other a small circular bar with tall stools. A stylish, fresh newcomer to the well-heeled Polanco neighborhood. What’s the crowd like?   The upscale neighborhood draws a middle-aged moneyed crowd, tourists making the rounds at museums, and those there to shop at boutiques and high-end shopping malls. Daytime is tranquil, later evening draws couples sipping wine and chatting quietly, foodies in-the-know, and the occasional industry person who only shleps to Polanco for an errand or doctor's appointment. What should we be drinking?   Natural wine, small-batch spirits, an abbreviated list of cocktails. Most people are drinking wine or sipping mezcal. Fits the food. Main event: the food. Give us the lowdown—especially what not to miss.   Though the restaurant uses a Mayan word for street dog or "mutt", the young, talented chef Alonso Madrigal carries quite a pedigree. He makes a weekly trip to Ozumba, an open-air, Tuesday-only farmers market, the holy grail for Mexico City chefs. And how did the front-of-house folks treat you?   Madrigal has cultivated a strong team, knowledgable but not pushy. He often invites other collaborators, chefs, wine-makers and artists for coursed dinners and events. What’s the real-real on why we’re coming here?   Polanco is sort of a dead zone in terms of local transportation, cool restaurants, and evening atmosphere. It is known as a rich persons' playground, overpriced and snobby but necessary if you want to go to a museum. Malix is a welcome blip in the neighborhood, great for a casual lunch before a museum jaunt or after for elevated, interesting food with a thoughtful point-of-view from the chef." - Scarlett Lindeman

What a gem of a place! Ambience: this feels just like a small restaurant in the West Village in NYC. That alone has a massive appeal if you are looking for an intimate, neighborhood like kind of experience. Service: the staff was so attentive! Eric and Diego were super sweet. We kept talking in Spanish and English. They accommodated whatever language I was comfortable with. I didn’t felt rushed nor awkward, even though I was dining alone (gotta love business travel) Food: and then there’s the food… if you’re looking for traditional Mexican food this isn’t the place for you. This is an elevated experience. Definitely playing with the ingredientes, pushing the boundaries of possibilities. I enjoyed every single dish I had. They were all very well executed, well balanced flavors, very tasteful. Would definitely go back if ever in town!

A gem in Polanco - intimate and relaxing atmosphere with innovative food and great drinks! The flavors were exciting and unusual, there is a good amount of focus on fermentation techniques but well-balanced. Really wish we were in the city longer so that I could’ve come back to try more dishes. Loved the house-made sausage, fennel and peach salad, and grilled lettuce!

This was one of our top culinary experiences in CDMX. Quiet little street, quaint atmosphere, amazing service from Diego. We had a fantastic Mexican Sauvignon Blanc and a few small plates. The ceviche was so good that we ordered two. I can’t recommend enough and thank you, Diego, for being such a welcoming and fantastic host

Chef came by and explained every dish we ordered. Very professional and passionate about his work. Each dish was delicious, teasing different parts of the palate with tastes never experienced. Our waitress was very attentive. Kept switching out our used plates and cutlery with fresh clean ones after each plate. Great that she spoke Spanish and English. Wonderful dining experience! Thank you!

beautiful restaurant with incredibly tasty and creative food. the way that everything on one plate paired together allowed for you to have the perfect bite every time. their non-alcoholic drinks were the best I’ve ever had! everything was so fresh and they list where they get all their ingredients - we actually even saw the chef and his team haul fresh groceries into the restaurant! on top of all this, I am celiac and almost everything was gluten free…10/10 will certainly be back!
