Mamacita’s Mexican Restaurant - Review - Fredericksburg - Austin - The Infatuation

"When in Rome, right? You’d be remiss not to get some Tex-Mex on your visit to Fredericksburg, and for a reliable option with a wide selection of margaritas, Mamacita’s Mexican Restaurant is the move. A Texas chain with locations in San Antonio and Kerrville, Mamacita’s delivers delicious, bountiful plates of enchiladas, chalupas, tacos, tamales, and fajitas. With a friendly atmosphere, spacious dining room, and on-site parking, Mamacita’s is great for larger groups, families, or folks looking for a little familiarity between brats and schnitzel." - Samantha Grasso

We enjoyed a pleasant dinner at Mamacitas. The service was very good. The food was served fast and hot. The queso Del Mar Flameado was exceptional; served with a dramatic flame at the table. All of our dishes were quite flavorful. I particularly liked their Verdes sauce on my chicken.

We enjoyed it. Over the past 10 years, we've always eaten at the Kerrville location. Since we're staying in Fredericksburg, we decided to try the local location. While this location is much smaller, the service and food was just as good. We started with Top Shelf Margaritas. They were decent though I'm not sure there was much Grand Marnier in it. She ordered a combination plate with a beef enchilada, a crispy beef taco, a beef tamale, beans and rice. I ordered the beef enchilada meal with beans and rice. We had the chili sauce on our meals. Of course, the green salsa for the chips was amazing. I'd say this was the only subtle food difference I noticed between this Fredericksburg location and the Kerrville location. Kerrville seemed to be a bit smoother. And while I prefer that, they are both real good. We'll be back next February!

It's been two years since I've been here, and nothing has changed. And I promise you I won't still wait this long ever again. Thanks for the ingredients to the crack sauce. A real dining pleasure thanks Walter.

Hubby and I had date night and Mamacita’s was incredible and our server Noe was top notch h!!! He was friendly, informative and on the ball!!!water and tea was constantly filled. They have a dip that is a strange color, but oh so good!!! I would say Noe should get 10 stars!!!

We came by Mamacita’s on a Sunday on the last week before school started. All of Fredricksburg was very busy and Mamacitas was no exception but we were seated very quickly. My daughter had worked as a server in several restaurants and she noticed right away how attentive and efficient all of the staff was. I ordered the Taco Salad but there was 5 people in our group and all of the food was excellent. Mr. Ledswing took care of us and he was outstanding. My wife is in an electric scooter and had no problem negotiating through the restaurant. I highly recommend you try Mamacita’s if you are visiting Fredricksburg!

Google
Best fajitas and tortillas ever. Fantastic Fajita plate with all the fixings. Service was good and they seated us pretty quick even though they were full. Food came out super fast and tasted fresh, the green chip dip is also excellent! 10/10 would come again. We need one of these in Fort Worth. The Boston sounding guy was a good server as well!

Google
We enjoyed the glass stained windows and the ambiance. The place is busy and the business seems to be doing well. The sauce for tortilla chips has room for improvements. The green sauce tastes good but a bit salty, and the salsa was bland. The strawberry margarita is overly sweet. The fajita needs lime for marinade and during serving to reduce the greasy flavors. Coconut shrimp was nice but felt greasy towards the fourth one. I would personally prefer lighter fried shrimps and consider using a bit of cornstarch and alcohol in the batter. The coconut shrimp sauce was super sweet as well. The Caesar salad was fresh, but the sauce was also a bit sweet.

The food and service was very good! Some of the best tortillas we've ever had!

Yelp
We had great service here--our waitress was super fast and accommodating. We were there a little late so the restaurant was a little quiet. Great prices and huge portions. The food was okay three of us were able to split the fajitas and the handmade tortillas were the best part!

Yelp
I had been here before on a previous trip to Fredericksburg, so I knew it would be a good place to seat a party of 6. My birthday dinner. The place was a zoo. The server was overwhelmed & actually forgot to bring our drinks. We had been at wineries all day, so that wasn't a tragedy. If I had not been in such a good mood from a phenomenal birthday weekend, this may have pissed me off. As I mentioned, service was pretty bad on this particular day. He was super apologetic & ended up giving my friends their bills and telling me " you don't get one bc I ruined your birthday". Very sweet, but not necessary. He did NOT ruin my birthday. It was still a good meal & great birthday even though we didn't get everything we ordered. My cheese enchiladas were delicious & the guacamole was a nice surprise - very tasty.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to dine in Fredericksburg. I always get the Pasion del Mar, and follow it up with flan. Neither ever disappoint. Service is always good, and atmosphere is warm and inviting.

Yelp
Great Mexican food and great service. Love eating here when coming to Fredricksburg. There is parking in the back when the front is full. The salsa is ok but the green sauce is excellent. The chips have a great texture and are light and crispy. The tortillas are homemade and come with every meal. You don't have to ask for them, they are hot and fresh. The softest tortillas you have ever had. The service is just as good. I got the chile relleno with queso, charro beans and rice. The chili was stuffed with ground beef. When made right this is an excellent dish, and this was made right. My wife got her go to, she does not venture out, beef fajitas for one. The fajitas were tender and flavorful, no cheap meat here. What sets this place apart, I am sure, is when you enter the establishment you will be greeted by the owner who oversees everything and he takes pride in his restaurant. This truly is a great experience, the food is plentiful and great all the way around. Their prices are good for the amount of food you get. The service bar is set high. The Mexican food restaurant bar is set high!

Yelp
This is such a good Mexican restaurant in Fredericksburg! It is located very close to, but not on the downtown strip. My friends and I were all blown away by the food, and we each ordered different dishes. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, and the host was very kind as well. I dubbed the green salsa radioactive because it was such an unnatural colour. However, the chips and salsa tasted great. I ordered the chicken enchiladas, and they were so good. The chicken was flavourful, and the sauce was creamy. I love how they gave so much guac too. There is parking in front of the restaurant, and prices are reasonable for Fredericksburg. I was so glad we chose to ate here instead of one of the tiny and overpriced (without restrooms too!) Mexican restaurants in downtown. The stained glass windows were so pretty.

Yelp
Went here to eat the waitress got my order wrong then picked up a plate from my groups party and tried to switch the food never offered to fix the food and ignored me multiple times and when I didn't eat the food, she just stared at me. My whole group wasn't shocked on what happened would not recommend this place was coming through as tourist. I think there's so many more better options to eat it.

Yelp
Beautiful place service to go out need to be improve when asking about ingredients for food allergies and food sensitivity. Just a suggestion. Thank you

Yelp
Service-Hostess is not so hospitable. She shows no emotion whatsoever. Watched her the entire time while we were in the restaurant and it was like a soulless entity. Not sure if she hated her job or what, but not how I'd want to be greeted. Waiter was nice, w a sprinkle of humor. The atmosphere was relaxing, the seating was a bit uncomfortable. We received our food and it was a fairly large portion and pretty good. I could only eat 2 quesadillas after loading up on chips and queso. I would return again.

Yelp
Had a mama it's margarita with upgrade of Cuervo Gold tequila 10.95 tasted like Margarita mix no tequila! Waitress said finish that one and you can try Patron it's better. No thanks. Food was bland no spices. 45.00 wasted. Home made tortillas best part of the meal. Not recommended.
google avatar

Andrea L.

Yelp
Recently visited Fredericksburg with family and we were looking for family friendly Mexican food. The service was attentive but the food was pretty awful. I haven't eaten a lot of tex-mex but almost everything was mediocre. The chips were odd and they served it with the most appalling green dip that was the color of a retro jello salad. I've never see anything like it and none of our party enjoyed it. My husband's margarita was weak and uninspiring. The only thing I could recommend would be the fajitas - the beef was steak and actually really good. The guacamole had no flavor at all and the rice and beans were tasteless. No one else was impressed by their meals.
google avatar

Chris J.

Yelp
I enjoy the food but I don't enjoy the sewage smell in the parking lot. I don't know if it is coming from Panda or Mammacita's but it is disgusting. Why we are smelling such odor makes no sense.
google avatar

Justin S.

Yelp
Service was good but food was low quality. Remember it being much better in the past.
google avatar

Todd T.

Yelp
Service very good. Good menu selections. Food...meh. I had carnitas. Draft beers were all domestic or Mexican. I would have liked more choices, especially in a German town. I would eat there again, but I wouldn't make it a point to do so.
google avatar

Elsa C.

Yelp
Parking lot in front of restaurant is small and tight but it's free. We entered and asked for a table in the corner. They bought us red and green sauce with chips. We ordered Queso Flameado which is served table side flaming cheese with seasoned chorizo sausage with flour tortillas. We split the Poquito De Todo, which is a choice of beef or cheese enchilada ( we got cheese). Along with a tamale topped with Chile con carne with melted cheese. It also has a crisp beef taco with lettuce, tomato and cheese. This plate includes beans, rice and guacamole with flour tortillas.! I had a margarita and husband had a beer. All was delicious and TOO much food.

Sterling T.

Yelp
The only positive quality was our waiter, Walter. Food smelled like pee and the chairs were ripped to shreds. At least the tortillas and chicken fried steak were house-made (not frozen). No drinks to-go which is absolutely ridiculous!

Jennie M.

Yelp
Awful service. We were rushed, felt like we were a burden and a little intimidated, the food was reheated frozen and if not, it was under cooked. The margarita was weak. The tortillas were good. Wish I could get a do over. Never again!
google avatar

Alison J.

Yelp
Waiter and everyone working there was very nice, however the food and drinks would make me not come back. The strawberry margarita I don't think had any alcohol in it, and the food was on par with Taco Bell quality. Nothing tasted bad, the quality was just lower than expected.
google avatar

Amy G.

Yelp
Would not go back. The waiter was waaay too chatty and familiar with our group of seven women--he behaved as though he were the main attraction. The green sauce is interesting, the salsa was too spicy for my taste, but the absolute worst thing was this: the spinach enchiladas were made with CANNED SPINACH. I truly could not believe it, as I've never had a spinach enchilada made with anything other than freshly steamed spinach. But there it was--the same dark, stringy blob that used to come out of a Del Monte can in the 1960s, stuck inside my enchiladas. Tried a few bites, just couldn't do it. Charro beans were good.
google avatar

Haley L.

Yelp
The only good thing about this place is their green sauce and that it comes in huge bowls lol. It's really yummy! But everything else was so bland and lackluster, despite visiting Fredericksburg regularly this felt like just a touristy restaurant meant to fill visitors tummies then send them on their way not caring if they come back, and we won't. Aside from the fact that the kids shrimp was obviously from bag of frozen pre-battered and texture was as if they were thrown in the microwave for too long, neither the adult entrees were enjoyable. Even the simple sides of rice and beans were left pretty untouched, and this was after a few hours trip from Houston. We were starving but that didn't help. Guacamole was runny and did not taste fresh, enchiladas were watery and greasy and lacked flavor. I was appalled that the Primo "Top Shelf" Margarita came out a very diluted mix that tasted like fake lime and slightly sweet water. I paid way too much for something that was comparable to an Applebees dollar-ita
google avatar

Daniella R.

Yelp
Good food and at a reasonable price. I loved that they were playing authentic Mexican music. The green salsa was a strange pistachio color. It was a little off to me since I had never seen salsa be that color. Haha despite the weird color, I really REALLY liked it. I ended up being the only one in the table eating it. It had a different taste from other salsas. It was delicious haha!!

Christopher G.

Yelp
DO NOT COME HERE, the service is really bad, the wait took over an hour and the place wasn't even full, we got all our food wrong, and gave us something we didn't even order , and instead of getting us the correct plate, the server refused and wanted to "win" the interaction, for the high price that you have to pay, absolutely not worth it‼
google avatar

Jason C.

Yelp
There is a lot of good about this place especially the service. You can tell management works hard to teach the entire staff how to ensure you have a great dining experience. Friendly, attentive, and quite fast service. Our group of ten was served with excellence. I'm not wild about the food here which is why the starred review isn't higher. Nothing regarding the food is poorly done, it's just not an attention grabber. Service is 5 Stars Flavor/Food is 3 Stars (but this is simply my opinion and wasn't shared by everyone at the table).
google avatar

Marvin M.

Yelp
Best nachos I've ever eaten. Good food, good service! Everything was just perfect. Couldn't have asked for more. Next time we travel to Fredericksburg you can be sure that this will be one of our stops.
google avatar

Clayton B.

Yelp
The vegetarian options are NOT vegan or gf. Waitress said that they sauté everything in butter, and that the seasoning is not gluten free. So I was not able to eat anything. Person I was with ordered tacos, and they said their taco tasted spoiled. And some of the taco meat pieces were visibly undercooked red and pink.
google avatar

Preston L.

Yelp
Very delicious food, the bartender, owner, and waitress were very respectful. Their tortillas are fresh and food is absolutely to die for. All and all I'd give them 10 stars I'd I could. I will definitely be back!!

Yelp
I'm going to try and make this review short and sweet. The wait time for a party of 7 on a Saturday night was only about 6 minutes, so we were seated very quickly. Queso was good but I've had better, everything else tasted fine. The food overall literally was "just fine", nothing special. Service was a little awkward, we felt very rushed and the server attempted multiple times to take plates while we were still eating. And he overall just seemed like he was ready for everyone in the restaurant to leave even though we still had 2 hours until closing. Finally, a few hours after we left all 7 members of our party got incredibly sick. The atmosphere of the restaurant is lively and busy, but there's plenty of other places in Fredericksburg that won't keep you up with food poisoning.
google avatar

Scott B.

Yelp
This place is really busy for lunch and we barely beat the big rush and were seated immediately. Amazing chips and even more amazing complimentary green salsa (mix in a little red salsa). Enjoyed some freshly made flour tortillas for with their fabulous queso flameado. Great presentation when served! The manager was super friendly and our server was great. Small draft beer list, but no one's perfect.

India B.

Yelp
TO-GO ON POINT!!! Also super affordable. Their to go team is doing a really good job - the following I got for 18 bucks and a 1.50 tip //// tortilla soup with slices avocado and pico and the tortilla strips and chips on the side so when I get around to eating it they're crunchy // four tortillas // green sauce // red sauce // chips // two big chicken fajita tacos with all the fixins including a generous portion of quac, minus sour cream (which I had at home) on the side // and they put a piece of a cardboard box at the bottom of the bag and I tipped it over so many times and all my food and soup was fine ///// anyway, just loved it, and it was fast too

Yelp
Table of 8 for my 50th birthday lunch!! We were craving Mexican food, and this place did not disappoint! The salsa is delicious, so fresh! I have been craving it ever since! Homemade tortillas, fabulous queso, great lunch specials! I would definitely come back here next time we are in Fredericksburg!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a Fredericksburg staple! I've been here on all of my trips through town. It's a busy little spot, and parking can be difficult but it's worth the stop. As a party of 6 on a Saturday night, they got us in quickly, and the service was great! Our waitress got drinks, appetizers, and entrees out in no time. I ordered the cheese enchiladas and they were a good classic TexMex dish. My fiancé ordered the "burritos" which were more like enchiladas, so he wasn't a fan. The queso needed the salsa mixed into it for some kick, but otherwise it was yummy! And they have a green sour cream avocado dip that's a must try.
google avatar

Tracy R.

Yelp
This is not the Mamacita's that I remember. The hot sauce was more like tomato paste. I had the flautas and my friend had the Chimichanga. The chicken flauta was better than the ground beef. The ground beef had an unfamiliar and unpleasant taste. The charro beans and rice were average. The best thing we had were the two flour tortillas we had to ask for. Service was average. We had a side of queso and it was out of a can. The kind you get on nachos at a high school football game, I hope the one in Kerrville hasn't gone downhill too. We won't be back. We were so disappointed

Linda G.

Yelp
Good food, good service. I always take my visiting friends and relatives to dine here to get San Antonio style Mexican food.
google avatar

Steve O.

Yelp
Mamacita's was jammed when we were there; I can only assume these were all out-of-towners who didn't know any better because this was one of the worst meals I've ever experienced. I ordered a burrito smothered by a tomatillo sauce. The ground beef was bland (unseasoned) and the tomatillo sauce was bland as well. The waiter was a little brusque, too. The chips and salsa were OK as was the frozen margarita, but, overall, awful.
google avatar

K A.

Yelp
We came for Dinner. Atmosphere was nice. Service was amazing. We had the frozen margaritas and they were and 8/10! delicious. I had the Guisado Monterrey. Yummy. But, on the menu it doesn't state that it's sautéd with veggies. I like veggies BUT they were overwhelming in comparison to the chicken and cheese. Husband had the carne guisada & was good. Meat was tender but not authentic guisada sauce. Overall everything was great and we will definitely come back!

Yelp
. Great new building. . . . . By now, Y'all must know how a review beginning like that is going to go. . . . Nice waitstaff & maitre 'd. . . . . Good off-street parking, a bit shaded. . . . . Oh-no, downhill. Gonna CRASH ! Food looks nice but is a step-down from TV dinner "Mexican". If you seek Mexican food or Tex-Mex, go just about anywhere else ! If you just wanna sit in the A/C & sip cocktails while people-watching, this may be your place. Rick .

Yelp
OK spot for Mexican food in Fredericksburg's tourist district. Complimentary chips and salsa come with your meal. In addition to the standard red tomato-based variety, you'll also get an intriguing green dip that I think may include avocado (but it's not guacamole, nor did it taste like tomatillo). I ordered a couple of the premium margaritas (Primo and Patron) that each cost more than my meal but were pretty forgettable, served in uninspiring cafeteria-style glasses and tasting of bottled sours mix. House margaritas are probably a better value. I ordered the chile relleño, one of my favorite dishes. Bizarrely, it arrived at our table topped with slices of pale, overcooked green peppers. Who does that to chiles relleños? I immediately scraped them off and found a decent poblano pepper underneath, nicely breaded and generously stuffed with cheese (at my request - I believe they're stuffed with beef unless you order otherwise). Accompanying charro beans and rice were OK. If you've got a sweet tooth you'll probably love their dessert counter, featuring flan and cheesecake.
google avatar

Marci P.

Yelp
We stumbled across Mamacita's on our last visit to Fredericksburg and the frozen margaritas were SO GOOD. The regular frozen margarita was great, but the peach frozen margarita is definitely unique and delicious. Our sever Marc recommended the carnitas and they did not disappoint. They came out steaming hot and was super flavorful. I asked for some hot sauce and he brought not only the Tabasco (which I didn't end up using) but also the spicy salsa made in house. Absolutely delicious. Marc was also great at stopping by our table at the right times and asking if we wanted refills on our margaritas (yes). Overall, it was a fantastic visit and we cannot wait to go back the next time we are in town.

Yelp
WOW! Normally I am not a big fan of Mexican food but my oh my was my tummy so happy. The wait was about 20 for a table for four, but we could line up on our phones. Our waiter was super attentive, our water cups and chip bowl never neared empty. Speaking of chips these tortilla chips were DELICIOUS! They were so warm and crispy and the sauces that it came with paired so well. There was a tomato salsa and a green salsa - the green one is so creamy and flavorful I want to take a whole bucket of it home. I shared the shrimp fajitas with my sister - fair warning the portions are huge so prepare yourself. The shrimp was charred well and crunchy. The rice and beans were pretty good. The flour tortilla was so soft and moist, it was absolutely delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone passing through Fredericksburg!!
google avatar

Yelp
Great food and great service. We are staying in New Braunfels on vacation and decided to drive over to Fredericksburg for the day. Before we left we decided to have a late lunch/early dinner and we were glad we chose Mamacita's. We only waited about 5 minutes for a table and our waitress came very quickly after being seated. They gave us warm chips and two different kinds of salsa that were super tasty. Everyone ordered something different and when we got our food it was PIPING HOT!! We were impressed with everything. We even ordered a dozen of their flour tortillas to take back with us for breakfast burritos the next day.

Yelp
We went to Mamacita's around three on a Saturday. The front lot was full, but there was plenty of parking in the back of the building. There was a wait of about twenty minutes, but the host recommended getting a drink from the bar. The line at the bar went quick. It appeared to be a full bar, with five beers on tap and a cooler full of more options. They had QR codes posted in a few places for the bar menu, but we were just getting margaritas, so we didn't use it. The margaritas were decent and had a good pour, which was nice since we got a slightly more expensive tequila than their well brand. We were seated quicker than expected after receiving a text to let us know our table was ready. The service staff were all very nice and wore masks at all times. Our table was clean and the decor was pretty typical of a Tex-Mex restaurant. Each table gets complimentary chips and salsa, with a red and green salsa. The red salsa had a little bit of heat to it. The green salsa was delicious and almost tasted like a spinach and artichoke dip. My wife got beef enchiladas with the mamacita sauce and I got shrimp fajitas. Both were good portions, enough to fill us and take some home. The shrimp came with their tail on, which was kind of a pain, but they were some of the best shrimp fajitas I've ever had. The food and drink prices were reasonable. Two meals, two drinks, and tip cost us $55.
google avatar

Yitzhak O.

Yelp
The Beef Enchiladas were very good and the chips and salsa were tasty as well. No complaints about the food or service. They refilled my Ice tea without being asked and that's a big plus!!
google avatar

Courtney W.

Yelp
Busy Friday night dinner! We had to wait about 25 minutes before having a table for four people. But our waiter Jake was high energy and really great. The chips and salsa kind of stole the show! That green salsa is so delicious, it's cool and creamy and really nice if you mix it with the red salsa which is also tasty on its own. I got the chicken enchiladas with the Pollo jalapeño sauce with rice and Charro beans on the side. The enchiladas are hot and pretty good, a nice portion and while they are not the greatest enchiladas I have ever had, I was very satisfied and finished it all. Rice and Charro beans are pretty decent and we were all happy with our meal. It is also a pretty good value, my meal was about $15. They have plenty of parking available and it's a great location on Main Street.
google avatar

Curtis Z.

Yelp
I've been here several times and I'm never disappointed. It's a classic Mexican restaurant, good food and quick service at a reasonable price. On my most recent visit, we arrived around 7:30 on a Friday, it was busy and they said it would be a 15 minute wait. We were seated in about 5. The server was friendly and attentive. We got drinks and chips/salsa promptly, both of which were tasty. I had the chimichanga and my friend had the carnitas. Both of which were good, but what really stood out were the fresh homemade tortillas that you can see them making right in the restaurant. They were outstanding! Tortillas are a simple food, but when they are fresh it really makes a difference. They melt in your mouth. Will definitely be back again!

Tanya C.

Yelp
Always love making the stop at Mammacitas! Love the beef fajitas very tender. The guacamole sauce is really good! Large portions! Staff were very friendly! Loved the decor We will be back!

Madison C.

Yelp
If I could give this place zero stars I would. The service was horrible and the beef fajitas came out well well well done. If you're a fan of rubber and zero flavor, this place is for you.
google avatar

Marie M.

Yelp
Our first visit here! The food was delicious! Our favorites were the green salsa, red salsa, carne guisada and the cheese enchiladas. Also the flour tortillas were fluffy and made fresh. Mexican martini was ok. The ONLY downside was the manager - we had asked if there was a senior menu as we have senior family who can only eat very small portions. The server was very sweet and brought a Kids Menu out, but when we ordered, she told us the prices were different for seniors. So we just asked for more information. She sent the manager over and he was so rude, we couldn't believe it. He embarrassed us by saying loudly / so I hear you cannot afford to pay for dinner here! This is not McDonalds! We told him later that his rude behavior was uncalled for. All he had to say was no we don't offer a senior menu. I can give five stars for our food and server, zero stars for the manager on Saturday, June 8.

Yelp
A must stop Tex-mex location. Right off the bat, the manager is friendly and reaching out to our group. He was very engaging the entire time our table was being prepared. (Group of 10) Queso, chips + salsa were great. Everyone loved their food and with our group we had a variety. The bartender was helpful and joyfully accommodating when I ordered a drink that was my own making. Will definitely stop here again!

Tilton N.

Yelp
Usually this place is good. We give it a go and was very disappointed. Maybe I caught them on a off day, but the staff was awesome but the food was not fit for human consumption I will give it another go probably in a few months
