2 New San Francisco Restaurants to Try This Weekend for Pizza and Chinese Food | Eater SF

"I learned that chef Brandon Jew has opened a second Mamahuhu as a counter-service outpost in Mill Valley, spinning off from his one-Michelin-star fine-dining restaurant Mister Jiu’s to pay homage to steam-tray standards; the menu leans on high-quality ingredients and classic Chinese techniques with dishes like sweet-and-sour chicken and beef and broccoli. The Mill Valley location occupies the former Mill Valley Beerworks space at 173 Throckmorton Avenue." - Lauren Saria

"Though still mired in the permitting process, Brandon Jew’s Mill Valley outpost is scheduled to open sometime this summer with a menu of Chinese-American classics from his childhood memories—kung pao chicken, broccoli and beef, imperial rolls—and even a playful sweet and sour ice cream sundae." - Christina Mueller

Chef Brandon Jew May Open A Second Mamahuhu Restaurant in Mill Valley | Eater SF

"A fast-casual, counter-service Chinese-American spot opened in January 2020 by Michelin-starred chef Brandon Jew (his flagship Mister Jui’s in Chinatown holds one Michelin star). It serves steam-table staples like sweet-and-sour chicken and beef and broccoli with a commitment to using high-quality ingredients. The Mamahuhu team says they’re 'very fond of Marin County' and Mill Valley after spending countless weekends biking, hiking, and hanging out there, and they hope to open a second Mill Valley location by September or October at 173 Throckmorton Avenue (in the former Mill Valley Beerworks space), marking Jew’s first foray outside San Francisco proper into the suburbs." - Lauren Saria

Found this place one evening while I was on vacation. Interesting name, I'm wondering if the owner even knows the meaning of the words. Anyway, food was decent. When my wife ordered her Ma Po To Fu, she was charged for the price of what we thought was for a combo but she only got the meal, no rice or veggies. My fried rice was pretty good. We went in and order first and waited for our food. So, when we paid, we were asked for tip and I thought to myself, this is a self served restaurant, why am I paying tip so I gave no tip. Then they gave us a number so they can bring our food to us. They also brought my wife's tea to her at the table. But then in the end, we brought our own dishes to a dish return station. So, we were quite confused with the service style they are providing.

I love coming to this Mill Valley gem. I love everything about it. The food is delicious and comforting. It’s got a great vibe. The people are friendly. On a recent visit I had the rice plate with ma po tofu with pork. Cucumber salad included. Yum

Google
Great food, fast service, bright clean atmosphere. We got the Pot Stickers, Honey Hawthorn, and the Tingly Spicy Pineapple Bun Chicken Sandwiches. The pot stickers seemed deep fried as opposed to steams or pan seared. They were super good and stuffed with lots of goodies. The peppers they came with ere ATOMIC. I was crying after 1 or 2 of them. The sandwiches were great. I think they use a tempura batter and maybe even a special oil to fry them in because they were super crunchy and good. The service was fast and they even spelt my name right even though there are 3 ways to do it. The place was clean and bright with lots of natural lighting from the front windows.

This photo / review below is the DUMBEST one I have ever seen. The food here is delicious, healthy and fast- the point of this restaurant. Brandon is a very busy, talented chef/ businessman so, no you may not see him here. 🙄 Come eat & enjoy!

Mamahuhu is soo so good! Nice to have authentic and organic chinese food after being in Arizona for 2 months! LOL Let’s get started with this delicious foodie binge after biking all the way from San Francisco! The Sweet & Sour Chicken House Special is crispy, tangy, and perfectly balanced—not too sweet, not too heavy. Paired with the Malted Milk Tea with boba, it’s a classic Hong Kong-style treat with a creamy, malty kick. The Mapo Tofu with Pork Rice Plate (double rice, no lotus root salad) is pure comfort food—spicy, savory, and exactly what you need after a long day. The Broccoli & Beef Rice Plate is another solid choice, especially with the Mandarin Duck drink—a bold mix of Ceylon tea, condensed milk, coffee, and boba that somehow just works. For starters, the Pork Poppers Potstickers are a must—crispy, juicy, and loaded with flavor, especially with that sweet and sour chili oil sauce. Shoutout to the amazing tall blonde waitress—so sweet and helpful! I made sure to tip extra ; ) She knew every ingredient and made sure my allergies weren’t an issue. Service and high quality ingreients take this cute little gem to the next level! Can’t wait to come back, and maybe this time take the ferry instead 😂😂😂

Google
The food was really tasty and interesting. Their fries and spicy chicken sandwich were unique and flavorful. The chow mein was rich and delicious. The art here is vibrant and playful; the overall intersection of vibes is strange, but in a good way. I'd recommend this place to somebody who wants to eat somewhere interesting and not quite like any other Chinese restaurant. It counts as a "local hidden gem" in my book. Also the people who work here were nice :)

Google
Part of a perfect Sunday for us in Mill Valley! Played at the creek with my kids at Old Mill Park and popped in here for a delish meal. Portions were great, extra points for the beer on tap, service was super friendly and loved the kiddie corner! Now we just need them to open a location in Berkeley!! :)

Google
Love this place - fast and spicy, with a twist on traditional favorites and unique dishes up and down the menu. My faves are the Lazi chicken (spicy - finally!) and the pineapple bun tingly spicy. Recommend the Jade fried rice with everything. Also dishes for those not wanting peppers - try the honey hawthorn sandwich or sweet and sour chicken!

Yelp
Moving up to Mill Valley, I knew that I was sacrificing having delicious Asian food at my fingertips. Well my opinion on that certainly changed today. I ordered their super savory pineapple bun chicken sandwich and their lazi chicken... absolutely knocked my socks off. If I was an ASMR food vlogger, I would use Mamahuhu's chicken to help me get views because the CRONCHHH was incredible. The food was deliciously seasoned and the lazi chicken was ACTUALLY super spicy (I ordered it that way). I'm so happy that I don't have to cross the bridge every time I'm craving Szechuan flavors. I mean Panda Express is bomb, I'm not gonna even pretend that it's not, but this stuff was LEGIT. I'm so happy!

Yelp
Honestly we love Mamahuhu. We've been ordering takeout since we lived in the city, so when we discovered it was nearby when we moved, we were jazzed. Same quality and amazing food! Decided to eat there the other night, and we will absolutely be doing that again. The crispy sweet and sour cauliflower, cashew chicken and surprising mala cucumber rounded out the Jade fried rice, which is a fave. Cute vibe, nice staff.

Yelp
Absolutely enjoyed my mapo tofu and mushrooms! Ordering was simple on the kiosk and the food came out in no time. I was pleasantly surprised by the taste. The flavor and chili oil were out of this world. Would absolutely go back!

Yelp
Always been a big fan of Mamahuhu - get it for delivery many times a month. It's def the best Chinese in Marin. Recently they seemed to have changed their rice plates. Now instead of coming with wok fried veggies on the side, it comes with cold sesame cucumbers (see pic). While I'm sure these are tasty, what it results in is lukewarm flacid veggies after being delivered in a box of hot food. This side went straight to the trash - it was gross. To management - please reconsider this change to the rice plate (at least for delivery). You had such a good model going - why break it with a nonsensical switch?

Yelp
Such a wonderful, kid-friendly restaurant! From the moment we walked in, the clean space and warm, cozy aesthetic made us feel comfortable right away. The staff were incredibly helpful -- our server took the time to guide us through the popular dishes and also pointed out the kids' menu, which made ordering so easy. Since we were first-timers, the server even checked in on us to see how our experience was going, which we really appreciated. My little ones loved the thoughtful touch of a reading nook and a small table with chairs just for kids. It kept them entertained while we waited for our food. And the food -- delicious! Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Another big plus was how organized and sustainable the cleanup process is. After eating, customers are guided to sort everything into three recyclable options. It's simple, smart, and shows the restaurant really cares about the environment. We had a great time here as a family and would definitely love to visit again!

Yelp
We have been wanting to try this place after visiting Mister Jiu's a few years ago. We came on a Saturday evening and it was not busy when we arrived, but it was by the time we left. We were greeted straight away and told we could order at the counter, or at the table. The service was very friendly and fast. We ordered several dishes via the QR menu at the table and it all came out within 10 minutes. Our favorites were the tomato garlic Chow Mien, Mapo Tofu and Mongolian Beef. (So much wok hei flavor in the beef!) We also got Cashew Chicken and Sweet and Sour Chicken which were both great. The restaurant itself is casual and has self serve plates and cups. It's very clean and welcoming. We enjoyed it and will definitely be back.

Yelp
After seeing a review on Check Please Bay Area, I bookmarked this. Being a lover of Chinese American food I knew I wanted to try the food offered here. I live in San Francisco where there's two outposts but Mill Valley was a 1/2 way meeting point for folks living in both the North Bay & the East Bay that we were dining with. This being a Saturday evening it took us 45 minutes getting there but going home took 20 minutes. My friends previously scoped out the place and said the booths would be tight for the six of us. There's an area in the back comfortable enough where we were able to scoot a couple of tables together which we did. Ordering process onsite - It's counter service. You can order using the QR code or at the counter. I ordered at the counter. Three house specials and paid. Then I was handed a plastic tent card. The other two couples we were with also ordered what they wanted to eat. House special ordered: * M.S.G. Chicken - very good. Rice coated flour used and deep fried. Great umami. * mapo tofu with pork - lots of fire. Hubby ate the majority of this dish. * tomato garlic tomato chow mein with curry - a different twist on a classic. Fat Shanghai type noodles used. And cherry tomatoes instead of steak tomatoes. * two draft beers - served in chill glasses. * boba tea sundae - I went back up to the counter to order after dinner. The boba tasted a little stale. But overall satisfactory. We didn't order jasmine rice for the two of us but the mapo tofu would have been great with rice. There were plenty of pick up orders and lots of foot traffic. Next time I'll try the outpost in the inner Richmond district in the City.

Yelp
First, I'd like to thank the service person in front as she was completely hustling to keep all the patrons happy with ordering /answering questions , bringing dishes out, and cleaning. Give her a raise as she was working hard. The food was the standard fare of American Chinese food. We got the sweet and sour chicken which had lots of bell peppers and onions and a few strips of pineapple. The chicken was non gristley and were large pieces, tossed in a bit of the sauce. The veg had only flavor of itself and no sauce. For me, it was missing any wok hei flavor and complexity. We love their cutlery and dishes and the tea though! This place seems very family friendly, having a few children's tables with activities, and if you're into that, great. For us, it was just a bit too loud with the children screaming. Overall 3.5 stars.

Yelp
W service - felt very welcomed right when we walked in and good recommendations were made! Unlike this pizza place by the lumbar W vibes - I love the kids seats in the back and outdoor seating if you want to enjoy some sun. W food - I will def come back to try the other sundae flavors. My one complaint would be the rice. It was the most non Asian white rice. I need the rice to be a little sticky. And maybe portions could be a little slightly bigger. W location. Easy to find parking. So close to the theater for a show we were going to after. W restaurant! See y'all next time!

Yelp
Quite surprised we found this delicious authentic tasting chinese restaurant in Mill Valley. We ordered a chicken sando, mapo tofu and a boba milk tea. The pineapple bun added a sweet taste to the chicken sando. The mapo tofu was true to its authentic taste, definitely got it with pork to bring out the flavors. And of course boba milk tea to top it off. The wait staff was super friendly, making sure we had everything we needed to have a great meal. The restaurant setting reminds me of a super casual classroom. Super relax and easy going. Overall, super impressed with the delicious flavors. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
After searching for a food spot in the Mill Valley area, we stopped by this spot and weren't disappointed. The food was amazing and authentic tasting. I'd recommend checking it out for lunch if you're looking for something a little different.

Yelp
Love this place. I was so happy when this place opened in Mill Valley to give this town something else to eat besides pizza and Italian. (There was once 4 Italian places within a block, now there are 2...Thank goodness for Mamahuhu!) I used to order from SF and bring it back to MV to eat I've tried almost everything on the menu. It's a great easy family meal. The kids menu is perfect for toddlers and kids. There's a cute kids table in the back if you're eating in. Takeout is fast and it's on pretty much every delivery service. I also love they have boba and it's within walking distance to where I live. I also love trying out their seasonal menu such as the fried fish sandwich. I have yet to visit them during a mahjong night and hope I can in the near future.

Yelp
Ordered the special salad , tasted good but ruined with too much dressing (for my taste). Went on a Sunday , young people working ... not very friendly service... bordering rude .

Yelp
Looking for a lunch spot in Mill Valley that's quick but doesn't miss on flavor and freshness? Mamahuhu is your spot! First time going here, this fast casual restaurant was highly recommended by people in the downtown shopping area. Upon entrance, Mamahuhu is clean, inviting, and vibrant with a pay-at-the-counter method/scan QR code at your table to order vibe. After seeing Mamahuhu highlighted on a Check, Please! Bay Area episode, I knew this spot was special. With two other locations in SF, this tucked away Mill Valley gem serves a healthier take on Chinese-American classics. We ordered the hot & sour soup, egg rolls, the crispy chicken sandwich (this is a must - served on a pineapple bun with black vinegar mayo, so amazing!), tomato garlic chow mein, and the Jade fried rice. All fried chicken is coated with rice flour, and you can taste the quality of ingredients from the tofu to the delicate kale used in the fried rice. All dishes were so light and delicious! Service was quick and friendly - if we had more time, would love to share a few more menu items like their crunchy cabbage salad, sweet & sour cauliflower, a soft serve sundae, or even a local brew (they do have beer, wine, and a kiddo menu!) Looking at their website, they also sell frozen potstickers made with a rice & oat flour wrapper. Looks equally as yummy to make at-home, can't wait to come back!

Yelp
I am adding to my review. They listened! We tried again and found that they started actually adding a realistic amount of protein again. Yeah! We love Mamahuhu, and will be going more regularly because they have created a fair value for the money now, and the food is very tasty and meaty now!
google avatar

Yelp
Best Chinese food in Marin! Definitely their sweet and sour chicken, broccoli beef, and chicken sandwich!

Tadena O.

Yelp
Their fried chicken sandwiches are still my go-to comfort food. Genius and really unique to make the sandwich with the sweet pineapple bun. Thank you for bringing good quality Chinese food to Mill Valley. Chef's kiss!

Yelp
Unlike the typical Chinese restaurant experience, Mamahuhu strikes me as a place where you'll not clutter your table with numerous shared dishes. If my 2-person lunch was any indication you'll share a couple forkfuls back and forth then settle in to enjoy "your" dish. My dish, in this case, was Tomato Garlic Chow Mein ($14) which, like the dish of my dining partner, arrived at the table as pretty as a wrapped gift; colorful, fresh, and bountiful, the presentation was lovely with enough variation in texture to keep the dish interesting. The Chicken & Broccoli Rice Plate ($15) was equally appealing if less colorful. Mamahuhu puts a little spin on classic Chinese fare in a way that I can't precisely identify. There were flavors present in both dishes which differ from the flavors I'm accustomed to and while enjoyable, they didn't leave me preferring these spins on the classics. A taste I definitely enjoyed though was the one of the sauce which accompanied the Egg Roll ($2). I added the leftovers to my Chow Mein and would've had even more had the sauce been self-serve. I'd not consider Mamahuhu a replacement for a classic Chinese meal but rather a place to get a moderately unique spin on a dish which may be your favorite elsewhere. (P.S. 5% Health Care Surcharge + 1% Zero Foodprint Surcharge + Sales Tax is automatically added to your bill and not reflected in the prices noted above).

Yelp
We drove 40 miles from the East Bay to check this place out. It is on a corner and easy to miss. The mapo tofu and sweet chicken were very tasty. With tip they came out to a about $41. They don't serve cola for some reason and I had to walk a couple of blocks to get a diet coke to satisfy my wife up. The cashier (on 03/03/24) kindly stopped by to check on us which prompted my wife to get up and order egg rolls. That employee should get four stars from management. She takes pride in her work. The egg rolls tasted ok but we're tiny and I expected more for almost $7 with surcharges. Check out those ridiculous taxes and fees on the receipt. You pay them extra to not leave a footprint and you pay a second bill for their employees healthcare. This information would be useful to know before you go there and maybe posted on the entrance door. Couldn't find it on there website. We would stop in again if we were in the area.
google avatar

Renee G.

Yelp
I love this fast Chinese food . Excellent quality - I just want them to bring back the dish with chicken breast and kale - I'm not a dark meat person!
google avatar

Charles D.

Yelp
Worst "Chinese" food I've had in 50 years. Tastes like something from a bad macrobiotic restaurant from back in the 70's.
google avatar

Crystal X.

Yelp
Despite the name Mamahuhu, which translates to "so-so" or "mediocre" in Chinese, they make pretty decent food. It's not your traditional Chinese fare or typical Americanized Chinese food - it's somewhere in between. I've tried their pork mapo tofu rice plate a couple of times and appreciate that they still include peppercorns. The sweet and sour pork is also a good option; it's nice and crispy. I would come back for a casual meal!

Yelp
YAY The Oatmilk banana boba magic soft serve ice cream is baaaack!! They were out if it for like 2 months. I nearly died.

Yelp
Mamahuhu is the casual chinese restaurant from same chef of Michelin starred Mr. Jiu! This location is our goto spot when we're driving back from Marin to SF and craving chinese food. I've tried: - (must try!) sweet & spicy chicken sandwich - mapo tofu w mushroom - kung pao chicken - sweet & sour cauliflower - wok'd veg My fav is the spicy chicken sandwich with a pineapple bun twist! They nail the flavors of all the classic chinese american dishes, loading each dish with fresh veggies and is reasonably priced for the portions. Also highly recommend getting the jasmine tea soda!! For dessert, we shared a boba soft serve which was a nice combo of banana oatmilk soft serve topped with yummy sesame crunch and chewy boba pearls.

Yelp
We make up reasons to go to Marin so we can eat at Mamahuhu in Mill Valley. It is one of our favorite restaurants. Our must-have dishes are the Tomato Garlic Chow Mein, the MSG Chicken, Honey Hawthorn Chicken Sandwich with a side of fries, and the Crunchy Cabbage Salad. The ingredients are extremely fresh, so flavorful, and downright delicious. The Jasmine rice is so fluffy and tasty. Everything is cooked to perfection. The prices are very reasonable for such high quality food. Make sure to save room for the Chop Suey sundaes. They are the perfect way to end the meal. There is one outside table in front that we like to eat at. Our main conversation at Mamahuhu consists of us saying, "OMG, this is so good!!!"

Yelp
2/5/25 Horrific food poisoning. Had the broccoli beef and egg roll plate. Hope I was the only unlucky one.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a bare bones dining spot at the edge of downtown Mill Valley. We enjoyed the Tofu with pork , the cashew chicken with fresh veggies, and the egg rolls all were delicious and freshly prepared. The small rice bowl was very small, no sweetener for the tea and napkins were scarce Maybe take out is a better choice.
google avatar

Yelp
Mill Valley Store Thoughtful, high concept restaurant with clean airy space and even a table for little kids in the back! Mamahuhu feels welcoming upon entry. Even more so, service is very friendly, helpful and just overall great. Jade fried rice bursts with flavors. Mushroom Mapotofu hits the spicy spot just right. Tomato garlic noodles taste chewy yummy. Sweet and sour chicken was crunchy crispy with green and red bell peppers. The soft serve dessert was a bit of a miss. The oak milk consistency and flavor was a bit too melty sweet. Still, this place is worth trying and we'll go to the other two in the city, too.
google avatar

Jonathan L.

Yelp
Walked past this store and saw a photo of boba soft serve and I had to give it a try. I loved they it was made from oatmilk and had no dairy! The ice cream isn't as smooth as dairy soft serve but I loved the crunch that same with the sesame crackers on top. The boba was very fresh and cooked perfect. Took about 3 mins to make. I really liked it however it's a bit pricey for $7-8. Not sure if it is something I'd ever crave and come back for for that price point but it was good and if I was in the area, I'd consider getting it again. Also while waiting to get my ice cream, I saw them bring out other dishes which looked really good that I'd probably come back and try one day! Also lots of seating inside with great service.

Yelp
Went in for lunch today and had a great experience! The gentleman cashier was extremely kind and had such a great attitude. I ordered the cashew nut chicken and potstickers. They were very good. This is a modern take on Chinese food. It's not what you expect. The quality of ingredients you can tell are very high. I would 100% recommend giving this place a try. It's delightful.

Yelp
Mamahuhu brings a delicious fast casual Chinese dining option to Mill Valley! While exploring Mill Valley, my friend and I were glad to stumble upon Mamahuhu, Michelin starred Brandon Jew's more casual Chinese dining restaurant. Located on the outskirts of the downtown, this new location is easy to miss! As a fan of the original in the city, I would gladly take any good Asian food options opening up in North Bay. Just like the original, this location has typical Chinese fare like mapo tofu, kung pao chicken, and broccoli beef. However, what I have enjoyed the most is the fried chicken sandwich! Sweet and Spicy Chicken Sandwich (4.5/5) Nestled in between the slightly sweetened pineapple bun, there is the crispy chicken thigh balanced with the refreshing slaw. Unlike most other fried chicken sandwiches, this is super juicy that was super messy to eat with hands, but it was sooo good it didn't matter! Easily one of my favorite fried chicken sandwiches I have had recently! My only downside was that I wish there was more... As mentioned earlier, they do have other items including dessert! If I come back again, I will definitely have to make sure to order more and will update. In terms of service, we were the only customers at 12:00 PM on a Sunday so it was super fast. For parking, we parked near the library and walked over. Overall, Mamahuhu is worth checking out if you are looking for Chinese food in the area especially for the chicken sandwich!

Mike L.

Yelp
Super tasty and high quality! We come here every time we come to Mill Valley. Our go to is mapo tofu and tomato garlic chow mein. Kids plate is also a pleaser.

Yelp
Better than expected and lives up to all the hype. Press write ups are correct- elevated Chinese American food we all grew up with! Staff went the extra mile, setting us chill, clean, cozy. Price is great for value.

Yelp
we've been trying mamahuhu since it first opened in mill valley, and i think they've really stepped up their game. the food is consistently good (flavorful, not too greasy, filled with fresh veggies), the service is excellent, and whenever we are feeling tired after putting our kids to bed and want a quick ( under 20 minutes) filling option for food delivery that doesn't break the bank, mamahuhu checks the boxes. we recently decided to eat in the restaurant and loved loved loved it. i don't know why more families don't dine here. they have a great kids menu, a cute area in the back with kids tables/books/coloring, everything is so clean, and the service is awesome. for a town with too many overpriced "farm to table american bistro" options, mamahuhu is a welcome change of pace. we'll be back again soon!

Yelp
I've been here a few times and think that the food is excellent . It's consistently fresh and flavorful. The food comes out fast and the service is friendly.

Yelp
WHEN: Sat @12pm We were in the area to shop at MINT for gifts when we stumbled upon this gem. What caught my attention was the gorgeous logo sign on the window, which had me stop to look at the menu sign outside. Peeking through the window I liked what I saw--so simple yet it has this new modern feeling to it. Then when the door opened something smelled good! That's it, we now had lunch plans. PARKING: We always park near the library which isn't far and it's free! So you order at the counter, grab your number and sit down. I love their self serving station with all the cups, tap water, bowls, and utensils you need! You also have to bus your own dishes. I love their choice of cups and bowls by the way. I appreciate the large sleek booth seatings, and they have smaller tables too. I love the choice of art and furniture, and the minimal decor of plants and other little decors. SWEET & SPICY CHICKEN SANDWICH - $10 Crispy rice-battered chicken thigh, shredded cabbage and huhu sauce on their house made pineapple bun. What had me was that it was served on a pineapple bun--how fun! I love those! The chicken Patty itself was huge, and all the sauces were amazing. I appreciated how even though there are spicy flavors, it was mild enough where I can handle the amount of heat, which I noticed in the menu they don't label it was spicy. Since it was battered and fried with rice--I'm guessing rice paper? It had more of a chewier crunch. It's not my favorite but it's not a big deal. Everything else about sandwich was (although really messy) REALLY good! Love it!!! You can make this a combo for just $7 (worth $11 if it's actually the same portion) more you get the following: WEST LAKE NEEF SOUP - $6 Minced beef, egg white, silken tofu, chicken broth, cilantro. Although I don't think this pairs with the chicken sandwich, it's a damn solid soup on its own. There's plenty of both the minced need and tofu, and it's so good. It was rainy out so it hits the spot. Reminds me of egg drop soup but heartier. RED TEA COLA - $5 Wild Tree Yunnan Red Tea, organic cane sugar, ginger, stair anise, spices. Made in house! I don't drink soda but I saw how unique it sounded AND zigs made in house! If you look at their tap, the handles are terra cotta warriors! I thought that was neat. Oh yeah about the soda: it was simple, light tasting soda. I'm not really one to judge since I don't drink soda but it was worth trying out! I liked the star anise garnish. However, I was kinda surprised my drink wasn't served mostly to the top. The other thing that stood out to me on the menu was the dessert and I got: BOBA SOFT SERVE - $7 Banana oat-milk sort serve, Ceylon tea syrup, tapioca pearls, sesame crunch. OMG SO GOOD! There was a very generous amount of boba (tapioca petals) and they were all sweet and soft! I was afraid by sitting on soft serve it would get hard but it didn't. The soft serve itself was so good and the banana flavor was subtle and actually nice! Who knew? I actually appreciate the sesame crunch as a topping as it gave the dessert some crunch and a slight salty accent flavoring! I actually hated that sesame crunch "candy" as a kid. Get it, it's such a wonderful treat even ima rainy day! What's also cool is they have a playlist going on where if you like it, there's a small flyer with a QR code you can listen on your own via Spotify! Oh yeah I love their beading and overall look and design of your logo, menu, signs, and merch! You know what's interesting? When I'm here, I felt like I was somewhere not in Mill Valley, and I think it's a good thing. I appreciate everything about Mamahuhu and I look forward to coming back. Great food, great branding, great atmosphere, great music.

Yelp
Brandon Jew's second outpost of Mamahuhu has finally landed in Mill Valley, in the old Beerworks location. For those who want a casual, lighter and creative version of fast-food Americanized Chinese, Mamahuhu is a good option. I count myself firmly in that camp. Reading some of the recent Yelp reviews it looks pretty binary: some love it, and some don't. Personally, I'm a fan. The menu is simple and for fast casual food, the flavors are good. My favorites include the sweet and sour chicken, fish underwater with crisp sweet peas, jade rice with sausage, spicy mapo tofu, the egg roll with wood ear, and their cabbage salad with mandarin. Each dish was simple, but had a surprising sweet or umami element that enhanced the dish, from the candied nuts and tofu cracker in the cabbage salad, to the char on the pineapple in their sweet and sour chicken. One dish didn't work as well for us. While cauliflower is a favorite vegetable, their fried sweet and sour cauliflower was crisp on the outside, but soft and mushy on the inside. This location boasts a dessert menu, which includes soft serve. The black sesame banana cake with tapioca was unique & delicious. Can't wait to try the banana soft serve made with Oatley and served with boba.

Yelp
Sorry I cannot say much about their food because I fell in love with their eggplant tofu rice plate. I have been there more than once and it was always that same dish I get.

Yelp
Great Chinese-American style food , great atmosphere and exceptionally quick service are always a treat. The music is always on point and gets us grooving to the beat while we eat. Vegan options are always a plus. Chanel has always given us great suggestions when we wanted to try something new and she's always been 100% with the selections. I really appreciate the way the friendly staff always makes us feel welcomed like we are home. Always look forward to dining here whenever we are in the area.

Yelp
The food is so good. Loved the fried chicken dish, broccoli and beef, stirred fry veggies and rice. Whole family enjoyed the restaurant! Especially they have little table for young children to play with. My granddaughter just so happy played at the happy corner.

Yelp
I'm speechless. I ordered takeout, and wow--I've always avoided Chinese food because I could never find something I actually liked. But this? Mamahuhu completely changed my mind. The sweet & sour cauliflower was incredible--crispy on the outside, and then it just melted in your mouth in the best way. I didn't even know cauliflower could do that! The presentation was surprisingly pretty for takeout, and you could tell the flavors were thoughtfully crafted. I never thought I'd enjoy Chinese-American cuisine, but Mamahuhu turned that around for me. Thanks for the amazing experience! :) :D =) =D :-) :-D

Yelp
After our visit to Muir Woods, we had Mamahuhu pegged for our lunch stop. I was looking forward to checking out Mamahuhu, which was Mister Jiu's chef, Brandon Jew's, casual restaurant. With four locations, this was the only one outside of San Francisco. The menu consisted of house specialties which could be made in combos, a chicken sando, salads, fried rice and noodles, sides and desserts. You order at the counter, find a booth or table and your order will be brought to your table. Self-service water station is in the dining room. Sweet and Spicy Chicken Sando - sandwiched in between a housemade pineapple bun was a very crispy rice-battered chicken thigh topped with a sweet and spicy huhu sauce and shredded cabbage. This sandwich was very juicy so expect the juicy/sauce to be on your fingers/hands. But the chicken never got soggy and was crispy to the last bite. The sandwich was delicious and wished the sandwich was bigger. Sweet & Sour Chicken rice plate - the crispy rice-battered chicken with pineapple chunks, red and green bell peppers and onions in a honey and hawthorn sweet and sour sauce. The sauce was not the typical reddish hue and there was just enough to coat and not overwhelm. The side of stir fried vegetables was topped with preserved black beans, which was salty. The couple handling the ordering and delivering of the food to the table were friendly. Food came out fairly quickly. Dining room was bright, clean and modern. A good option for very good casual Chinese cuisine.

Yelp
Mamahuhu is our #1 takeout choice! The food is always delicious with slight twists on menu items depending on the season, and the service is always incredible. A great restaurant with a kind and inviting vibe!

Yelp
One my list of a while, and I finally got a chance to try. The honey hawthorne chicken sandwich with perfectly crispy thigh meat. The nice fresh cabbage and sweet and sour sauce all tied it in with the fluffy pineapple bun. The hot and sour soup wasn't too hot or sour, and had so much in it. I also tried their mango jasmine ice tea with boba added, which was not too sweet and was refreshing. The inside was spacious and clean. And their service was nice and friendly.

Yelp
Lives up to it's name, which translates to "so,so". or just average. The food is fresh and healthy enough. the price is right. It's just not very interesting, speaking of flavor. My friends paid $3.50 for a tea that was basically two or three dried flowers in a cup of hot water. Also it was fairly busy and there was one thin young woman server being extremely rushed but still being competent. I felt badly for her.

Yelp
Lots and lots of delicious. Always add that mala cucumber to titillate the palate. Textures, ingredients, and ~ideas~ are optimized to satisfy hungry travelers.

Yelp
Food amazing, service the cashier, server named chenel was very helpful, friendly and has such an excellent attitude. We had watched an episode of check please Bay area and found this spot to be a place we wanted to tryout for the first time. And we did. So happy we did. The menu is easy and exactly what the ingredients are is what the dishes are. Flavorful, great sauces and spices, they have these drinks that are sparkling and refreshing I had one that had jasmine and anise star. I'll post the menu and our dishes price was great for the amount of food we were served. Local organic ingredients as well. The manager of this location is super friendly and nice and we spoke with her regarding our first time being there she was happy to welcome us. We will be going back again I want to try their chicken sandwich yummy. Don't hesitate to try this spot you won't be disappointed at all.
