The Best Vegan Restaurants in Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"Mamak Vegan Kitchen is owned by the same family behind popular Buford Highway Malaysian restaurant Mamak at Asian Square. The restaurant, located on Chamblee Tucker Road, includes a dedicated vegan and vegetarian menu of select Mamak dishes, like mee goreng noodles tossed with fried tofu, a vegan char kway teow, and spicy rendang made with Beyond Meat. There’s also a selection of vegan soups, such as coconut and the tamarind-based assam, as well as appetizers like fried curry potato pies and Beyond Meat satay skewers." - Beth McKibben

Absolutely delicious Malaysian food for a reasonable price. The flavors were authentic and similar to what I ate in Kuala Lumpur, and portion sizes were big too. We enjoyed the entrees a lot, and would recommend skipping the relatively small portioned appetizers if trying to stay within budget. Recommend the Lemak curry and beyond rendang!

The food is amazing!! The service is great! The atmosphere was peaceful. Can't wait to return. We had the veggie dumplings, tangerine chicken and Mongolian beef!

I come from Singapore and recently moved here so I was really elated to find food back from home pretty close to me, especially a vegan restaurant since we are vegetarians. Me and my husband dined here yesterday and we liked the food. We ordered olive fried rice (was really good and authentic), lemak curry and curry chicken. I would like to comment though that the restaurant kitchen should be more generous with the curry portion of the lemak curry and curry chicken, especially the lemak curry. There was so little curry amongst the huge cut vege. Since I dislike okra and brinjal and huge cut tomatoes, I really only ordered the dish for the gravy and the tofu, and while I get that not liking those vegetables is my problem, anyone who wants to eat it with the rice it is served with would definitely need more of that gravy. I was literally hunting for the gravy under those vegetables from the beginning of eating the dish, so that was a put off. The restaurant should be more mindful of how customers would eat it or enjoy the dish, especially since the price you are charging is not cheap. I also didn’t expect the tofu to be silken tofu, but it was nevertheless nice, just not what I’m used to with this dish. Also, the customer service could be better. No one came to us to take our order although they were standing right there at the cashier and waiting so I presumed we had to go to the cashier and order ourselves. I stood up and went to the cashier and was told they will come to me. Well then what were you waiting for? They were not busy or occupied at that time. Please take my review as constructive feedback, I really love this place and definitely will be back again. I just hope some of the above things can be improved.

We had the Lemak Curry (which comes with steamed rice) and it tasted great. And we also had the pineapple fried rice which was very good.

Its rare to find vegan restaurants especially of this quality. The food came out very quickly. I got the sesame chicken and chicken satay and thai ice tea. All of it was delicious and flavorful. Ive missed eating chicken satay since becoming a vegetarian and the texture on Mamak’s chicken was perfect as was the peanut sauce.

We've heard about Mamak Vegan for a while since we are also fans of Mamak at Asian Square. First impression is that this place is so cute! The modern decor and twinkling lights really brighten up the place. We ordered a few staples and a couple of interesting dishes. The tangerine chicken was a different spin on orange chicken. This was the favorite out of everything we ordered-- light sauce with a refreshing yet strong citrus profile. The shrimp lo mein had a good char but was a bit oily towards the bottom of the plate. The imitation shrimp had a bouncy texture. The black pepper beef had such a tasty peppery sauce that was enjoyed with rice. The spring rolls were average and were lacking in filling. The lotus peanut soup was unique with peanuts, lotus root, corn, and carrots (no visible dates). The menu is extensive for a vegan restaurant. Will definitely visit again to try the other dishes. Tip: Ask for the chili oil on the side. It has a great kick!

We’ve never had bad food here, but something is always off with the staff. They give off a weird vibe, like they’re better than their customers. At least that’s what I’ve experienced. My husband and I were both seated and a larger group of customers came in and the staff made us move so they could accommodate the larger group. We gave the restaurant another chance recently, but again, I got weird vibes from the staff. I won’t be going back. Not when there are tons of other great restaurants in the area with wonderful customer service.

Amazing food! I was very impressed by all of the dishes we tried. Came with a larger group, and we ordered a lot of dishes to share - roti naan, beyond satay, olive fried rice, braised tofu, lemak curry, sesame chicken, black pepper beef, beyond rendang. Everything was delicious!! As a non-vegetarian I was surprised by how good the texture of all the mock meats were, and each dish was so flavorful. Favorites were the beyond rendang and lemak curry, but you can't really go wrong with any dish! The soft tofu in the dishes were especially tasty. Each item was a good size to share with a few people and reasonably priced.
