The 2024 Eater DC Holiday Gift Guide | Eater DC

"The New York–born French bakery and cafe with D.C. locations unveiled a collection of aprons, tea towels, table runners, placemats, and napkins in partnership with Petite Plume; the Winter Wonderland toile print of snowy cabin vignettes and treat towers is printed on 100-percent cotton, and there’s a parent-and-child apron set for the littlest chefs. The collection can be found online and in the Georgetown store." - Adele Chapin

A Surge of New French Restaurants Floods the D.C. Market | Eater DC

"A NYC import with a Southern France–influenced, dreamy floral aesthetic, Maman opened a Georgetown cafe that emphasizes pastries and casual café fare—its nutty chocolate chip cookie even earned Oprah’s “Favorite Things” recognition—alongside weekend ratatouille, daily quiche, make-your-own omelettes, croissants, and pain au chocolat; a seasonal cherry blossom iced matcha latte was set to start March 21." - Tierney Plumb

French Cafe Maman Doubles Down on D.C. With Georgetown and Union Market Arrivals | Eater DC

"Set in Georgetown's historic buildings at 1353–1355 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Maman’s Georgetown outpost feels homey and warm, with multiple seating areas including a back courtyard and a street-facing “Study Room” that is exempt from the brand’s usual no-laptop policy because of its university-adjacent location. The Southern France–influenced cafe serves coffee, pastries (notably a nutty chocolate chip cookie made famous on Oprah’s “Favorite Things”), cocktails, and breakfast and lunch fare such as smoked salmon and avocado salads, turkey sandwiches with goat cheese and fig, croque “mamans,” and eggs ratatouille; weekday hours are 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and weekends 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. (kitchen closes at 4 p.m.). The store integrates local artists—selling items like local honey, croissant-covered dog bandanas, notebooks, and Washington Monument–illustrated mugs curated with the former Shop Made in DC—and will feature limited-edition to-go cups from local design contests (Michael Crossett’s screen-printed D.C. landmark designs will be sold out of this location). Georgetown’s space can host events (about 100 standing, 24 seated), and co-founder Elisa Marshall says its cozy warmth may be her favorite in terms of design." - Emily Wishingrad

Google
OK, let me start with the positive. It is arguably the most beautiful café by several miles in all of Washington DC. And that’s saying something because DC posts some really extraordinary spaces. The way they have decorated and arrange the seating and the sheer number of tables they have spread spread out in their enormous space and the impressive diversity of different vibes that they have achieved within one huge space is honestly nearly impossible to eclipse outside of maybe some top hotels. Secondly, other than the people who took my order who I would say are probably just really tired from serving so many people for so many hours (not that there was anything negative, but they just did not exude the level of excitement that the rest of the team who subsequently served us as well as the management who came by to see if we were doing OK had). But overall, the service was excellent. Despite being very busy, our server was constantly attentive to all detail details and chatting up every customer according to their energy and needs. So for these two foundational pillars of service if I could give them seven stars, I would. I was just very disappointed with all four of the pastries that I purchased. They looked absolutely beautiful. But don’t be fooled: they do not even come remotely close to real French pattisserie in their execution or in their flavour. The latte flavours are really cool and I ordered them half sweet yet. It was way too sweet and the espresso just was not strong enough to justify that level of sweetness.

Google
This place in Georgetown is spectacular. Not only the food is amazing, but the place is stunning and the staff is the most welcoming and kind you can find. Thanks Julian and Camilo for making us feel at home. We’ll definitely be always back!

Google
There's a vibe unparalleled inside! Its old world and cozy. The food is delightful! We had the Papa's Breakfast bowl and it was amazing! Highly recommend! The Belgian waffle is tasty, sweet and has a little crunch from the sugary crust. Drinks are tasty too, the Martha Stewart collab is a great mix of flavors!

Google
What an incredible hidden gem! My friend and I originally planned to go to Yellow, but the line was too long — so we randomly walked into Maman… and oh my gosh, what a wonderful surprise! This place is truly a treasure! Their bakery is phenomenal and beautifully crafted — very French-style, delicate, and full of flavor. We tried their seasonal Pumpkin Spice cake, which was moist, perfectly spiced, and absolutely delicious. We also ordered the Pumpkin Spice Latte, smooth and rich — such a perfect seasonal pairing! We stayed for brunch afterward. I ordered the house-made smoked salmon croissant — buttery, fresh, and incredibly tasty — while my friend had The Harvest Bowl, and she really enjoyed it. Their brunch menu is wonderfully extensive — from protein-packed sandwiches and bowls to fresh salads — there’s truly something for everyone. A perfect spot for a satisfying weekend brunch! The café has both indoor and outdoor seating: • Indoor: adorable French-inspired décor — stylish, cozy, and thoughtfully designed. • Outdoor: around 6–7 tables along the street. Lovely for sunny days, though slightly noisy with passing cars — but still a great vibe if you enjoy fresh air and people-watching. Service was warm and friendly, which made everything even better. We came here by accident, but we will definitely return on purpose next time! Delicious food, amazing pastries, charming atmosphere — highly recommend for a weekend brunch in DC! 💙✨

Google
adorable. wait time for 2 was quick. seasonal coffee was vanilla honey butter latte and it was hands down the best coffee i’ve ever had. very busy so prepare to wait but definitely worth it. a bit loud inside but that’s bc it has a steady stream of people waiting to eat there. dixon was our server and he was excellent!!

Andrea L.

Google
Can I just say that I love how our server Noemi actually took her time and chatted with us, that alone made lunch so meaningful. She was patient in my figuring out what I wanted and provided recommendations. The food and pastries are hands down the best and the matcha here is fire I loved it!

li S.

Google
Really aesthetic cafe! Definitely would recommend coming with friends or having a little dine in with family. Since it is at DC, the prices for the food are more expensive, but they are good. The place was pretty packed and had to wait for a few minutes to be seated.

Yelp
This location is super cute. The line was out the door but moved quickly. The coffee was good. I would visit again.

Yelp
Coffee Shop No. 463 Maman Georgetown, DC January 24, 2025 Maman might be my favorite cafe in the DMV area; in regard to ambience and setting. I didn't get to stay as long as I would have liked, but just a few minutes in the cafe and you can tell it set apart from other places. The lighting is bright and feels natural. The decor is spectacular reminding me of a cottage. The detail in the shop keeps you wanting to explore and look around. Catching my eye were the blue white china/dishes the food and drinks were served on. Maman's espresso maker and their disposable coffee cups were wrapped in a pattern similar to the dishes. The pictures hung made the cafe feel homey and cozy. The light fixtures over the purchasing counter were very unique. I think they were meant to look like wasp nests, but please correct me if I am wrong. The service was fabulous. The young lady taking my order was very friendly and helpful when I couldn't decide on a cookie to go with my cortado. The lady making the espresso drinks at the back counter was very impressive. She was whipping out drinks like a pro. The cortado was delicious. I will definitely be returning to this shop for more than a coffee drink. The menu and the food carried out from the kitchen looked fabulous. Enjoying life one cortado at a time!

Yelp
It's was decent. The vibe was nice but the food is very mediocre. My friends iced matcha was horrible and wasn't properly made (clumps of matcha throughout the drink). My latte was decent but not worth the price IMO. There are better and cheaper coffee places near by. This is the type of place I recommend for a quick study break but wouldn't recommend planning on sitting down and eating here with how busy it gets. My friends both had sandwiches with their drinks and both seemed to be pretty good. Recommend getting some sort of sandwich and maybe an iced latte or coffee for an enjoyable meal.

Yelp
Went here on a Saturday morning for brunch. Parking was difficult. Found a spot few blocks away. It was busy but it took only less than 5 minutes to get seated. Tried black coffee and Andrea's everything croissant & salmon sandwich which was a toasted croissant with smoked salmon, cucumber, pickled onions, and lemon whipped cream cheese. It's okay. I think nothing special. Pistachio chocolate croissant was heavenly. The contrasting creamy filling inside and the crunch from the pistachio outside made it very, very good. Yummy. Closer to lunch time, the place and the staff became busier. Nobody checked in on us and we even had to get their attention just to check out.

Yelp
I came here on a Sunday afternoon and the place was packed. Despite that, you are able to go in and order from the counter for things to go. I got the blueberry goat cheese scone which was absolutely fantastic. I also got a latte which was solid. This was a great place to stop and grab something to go, and they have a lot of different baked goods so I would go back and try those.

Yelp
Cute cafe for catching up with a friend, taking a shopping break, or remote work if you're not taking calls. Came here at the tail end of the heatwave during the summer. Decor feels like you're inside a rustic garden and great for photos. Plenty of seating especially in the back. Service is friendly and accommodating. We got some drinks (they even have cocktails!) and they tasted great. Will be one of my regular spots to relax after shopping in Georgetown!
google avatar

Yelp
The location was a bit cramped with so many people and the staff felt understaffed. There were several tables that needed to be cleaned before we could sit down. The atmosphere is cute though with country French. Ordered the new seaonsal drink centre st's whipped cinnamon honey cappuccino and a honey lavender latte. The cappacinno was a really sweet but the latte was just right. Also had a banana walnut bread that was super moist.
google avatar

Jo L.

Yelp
FOOD I tried Katie's chicken sandwich, and it was fantastic. The chicken was moist and flavorful, complemented perfectly by the basil aioli. The bread added a satisfying crunch that contrasted beautifully with the tender chicken. DRINKS Their pumpkin spice latte was creamy and brimming with flavor. It had just the right amount of pumpkin sauce without being overly sweet--a perfect fall classic! SERVICE The staff are kind and friendly. AMBIANCE The store may look small from the outside, but the interior is surprisingly spacious. It offers plenty of room to either catch up with friends or work comfortably, with seating options available both inside and outside. PARKING There are parking lots nearby, as well as street parking with metered, hourly, or daily options.
google avatar

Erica L.

Yelp
Solid and large coffee shop with French-ish sandwiches, salads, and pastries. I had the roast beef sandwich with arugula, tahini yoghurt, zaatar, mint, and pickled onion. Small amount of beef but flavors were balanced and the bread was toasted. I thought it was good but pricey. The croque madame was disappointing. Not griddled enough, egg came on the side so you have to input it yourself. It was just a pretty boring and cold ham and cheese sandwich.

Yelp
this was my first time at maman and i will 100% be coming back! i came at 1230pm on a sunday and it was crowded. luckily as a party of 1 i got a seat at a counter right away. my service was good and my food came within 10 min. they have lots of options on their menu and certainly something for everyone. at the very least, their pastry case will certainly not leave you hungry!!! my salad was tasty, my chai was hot fresh and delicious, and the seasonal pumpkin cube croissant was absolutely fabulous. it looked good AND tasted good. light, airy, fresh-feeling vibes. not a huge place but it's prime real estate in downtown georgetown. they have a couple tables outside too. i paid w/ inkind and got $10 off so that was a treat. i think things were averagely priced for an upscale cafe. already planning my next visit :)

Yelp
A classic Georgetown spot for brunch. I love the vibes here, it has tons of natural light and seating. The service here is quick and they are extremely kind. If you're coming on a weekend, keep in mind that it's regular brunch and you cannot work here. The nutty chocolate cookie is a must buy.
google avatar

Yelp
This bakery has so many varieties to choose from and a lot of seating area. All the staff were friendly and the foods and the drinks were so delicious! I tried Jasmin Mist tea this time and it has great jasmine flavored green tea. I'll try coffee drinks or some specialty drinks next time. The Maman's strawberry & cream beachball and the Catalina's veggie sandwich were awesome!!
google avatar

Yelp
Great pastries selection. Good coffee. Plenty of seating. Beautiful place. Must visit.

Yelp
Born in New York City, Maman is the latest East Coast coffee shop and bakery taking D.C. by storm. (Examples- Boston's Tatte, New York City's Mah Ze Dahr, etc.) Now with several locations in the D.C. area, this location is as beautifully designed as any. It may look narrow, but it goes back deep with plenty of seating with outlets and wifi (password is "ilovemaman"). I enjoy their coffee drinks and their chai is nice. They have a large array of pastries and you really can't go wrong.
google avatar

Paolo D.

Yelp
My first time here and will not go back. They do say vegan options but what they mean is overnight oatmeal for $12! And it was very small. I don't know why they insist on saying they have vegan options. Just don't lie please. I think this place it's just a name. Food is less than average. Service is slow. I was with a group of colleagues who wanted to try this place. None of us (vegans and non-vegans) would go back.
google avatar

Yelp
Stumbled upon this cafe on our trip to DC. Very spacious and well maintained inside. Tons of options to pick from for baked goods and coffee/tea. The workers were friendly and service was super fast. All the drinks and baked goods were delicious. Highly recommend to check them out!
google avatar

Melissa P.

Yelp
I tried the most incredible pastries. The coffee was also had a rich flavor that felt velvety on the tongue. My only complaint is that I wish they sold larger bags of whole beans. The interior made you feel like you were in a beautiful French country home. Service was fast and coffee order came out quickly.
google avatar

Gabi Y.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my meal here! It was very delicious, fresh, and filling. The restaurant is very cute too and the service was good! Would come back here!
google avatar

Yelp
Service was awesome and I loved the peppermint matcha! The Mac and cheese croissant was delicious but a bit on the drier end. The cafe was decorated beautifully.
google avatar

Sara S.

Yelp
I LOVE THIS location of Maman. The inside is so ambient and cute, there is a clean blue aesthetic and the service is fast. If you choose to dine in, they serve everything on beautiful white and blue porcelain dishes. My favorite thing they have is the blueberry goat cheese scone. I get one every time I come. The matcha is also very tasty and I recommend enjoying their hot coffee selection at a table and savoring the environment. Go have a cute coffee moment for yourself!
google avatar

Linda O.

Yelp
Charming French bakery/cafe with attractive pastries that taste as good as they look. Not always an easy feat to pull off. I had my first "croissant-cake" offering here. It's a unique creation that I was skeptical about; just couldn't believe that a croissant, which is difficult enough to produce, could be baked into something else with success and still taste yummy, but Maman has done just that. I recommend the orange chocolate cheesecake croissant cube, it's pretty fab. Oprah Winfrey deems that one of Maman's cookies, the nutty chocolate chip, is among her "Favorite Things". I couldn't agree more: it's rich and wonderfully gooey. Coffee is fixed to order and excellent. This Georgetown spot is bright, botanical, and inviting. I enjoy both the food and ambiance found within. Bien joue!

Yelp
Very inspired dining nook in Georgetown. Cafe vibe with flair. Bkfst sandwiches we had were very good.

Yelp
Great food, excellent service, and a fantastic atmosphere! Our experience was enjoyable from start to finish, with attentive staff and delicious meals. The place is also beautifully designed and well-maintained. Definitely worth a visit!
google avatar

Yelp
Cute decor and ambiance. Tables for one or two works. Super happy to have the weekend ratatouille which was excellent for my day walking around the campus and neighborhood.
google avatar

Alexis R.

Yelp
A cute, cozy cafe with lots of seating and great staff! Had their quiche and a cappuccino here and they were both amazing! Even when this place is busy, seating usually quickly becomes available and the staff is quick to help you get seated! Also, they have lots of french pastries to choose from and a lovely menu for a slightly more substantial meal.
google avatar

Jennifer T.

Yelp
Super sure cafe with good coffee. I really enjoyed my time at the cafe, the decor is nice and the staff is great.
google avatar

Katie T.

Yelp
Maman is a solid 4 stars! Super cute café with a Parisian garden vibe. My husband and I waltzed in here on a Monday morning around 10:30 and the place was slammed. Thankfully, we found a table for 2 nestled just before you get to the coffee bar in the back. We ordered a decaf mocha, a flat white, a chocolate covered pretzel croissant (5/5 on this one), avocado toast and a cinnamon bun/roll. The coffees were delicious. The avocado toast was so-so and the cinnamon roll was dry as a bone. Would not get either of these items again. The service was also really great and despite it looking like you may have to bus your own tables here, the service staff came and cleared a few plates as we finished them. I thought that was a nice touch! One thing to note, this place doesn't really accommodate larger folks. (I am not speaking of myself, but to be aware of any and all walks of life is necessary in the restaurant business). The tables are VERY close together, so it really doesn't allow for much space around you. FYI. I would return and I know the items I would pick here. A delightful spot for a coffee and some conversation!
google avatar

Nicole R.

Yelp
I do love it here! The vibes are light and airy, and the upstairs is perfect for remote work (and you'll see a lot of us staring at our laptops up there!). Love the coffee, lattes are my favorite, basic but so good. They have tons of other more fun options too! Food is always . I love their turkey sandwhich with bacon, avocado, kale, and a red pepper sauce. It's toasted and perfectly creamy.
google avatar

Fernando M.

Yelp
The place is nice. Staff is super friendly, not only to us but I saw them having kind conversations with regulars. Food is good, we just stopped by for a quick snack and coffee, the little table next to the stairs where they sat us it's an odd spot tbh, but the experience was good overall.
google avatar

Gabriela R.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by the curried sweet potato soup. A little comforting hug in a bowl. I asked for a mocktail, and tbh I wasn't blown away. Maybe I should've stuck with coffee? Pastries were ok. I wanted my mouth to break from the goodness, but alas, this was not to be. It's cute, and def a popular spot in the hood. Service isn't great, gotta keep it real. I honestly think they are understaffed (servers), and this is not cool. So, they could provided more attentive service, but they are slammed, so they do the best they can.
google avatar

Yin Y.

Yelp
Had three different salads No cons :) Service was slow. Maybe b/c it's a Sunday noon, we (3 people) waited for 30 mins to be seated. Once you walk in, you will find the place is actually big (long row house) and it's quieter in the back.
google avatar

Heidi M.

Yelp
What an adorable coffee shop/bakery nestled in the Navy Yard! I was immediately taken with all the floral accents and the antique French decor of the space... tea party vibes! I came in to kill some time so I ordered a cappuccino and the curried egg salad tartine. Food and service were great. Surprisingly I found the place to be quiet, peaceful and not very loud. I would love to see a maman open in Tampa!
google avatar

Jocelyn G.

Yelp
Ordered the youki turkey club sandwich and it was pretty average. There was a thin layer of turkey in it and barely any kale. In the entire sandwich, there was one small, thin piece of kale that was eaten in one bite of the sandwich. I also didn't love the aioli it came with and the bacon was soggy. However their pastries did look really good which is what I think they're more known for.
google avatar

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
I loved the nutty chocolate chip cookie. I also loved the pineapple mango croissant. It was not too sweet and so flaky. We came on a saturday late morning and it was so crowded and busy. There may be a wait for a line during busy times but we just got takeout.
google avatar

Niranjana S.

Yelp
This place is so cute!! They have so many yummy pastries to pick from I couldn't decide. I ended up getting the orange chocolate cheesecake croissant cube which was a bit heavy but still delicious. The iced latte is a classic as well. There were a lot of people which made it kind of hard to sit and enjoy my pastry but eventually found some first come first serve seating outside.
google avatar

Stacy K.

Yelp
Food was great. Getting the order in and grabbing the check is a bit slow cause of how crowded it was inside.

Maria K.

Yelp
Pretty good food and drinks Nothing special, however, for its higher price Ambiance is aesthetic though

Yelp
Came on a Saturday afternoon and waited 5-10 min. We were seated at the community table (party of 3) which was fine. I had the crogel which was absolutely delicious. We also shared the famous nutty chocolate chip cookie but the entire bottom was burnt so I was pretty disappointed. I could tell it would've been delicious otherwise. My friend and I also ordered cookie granola lattes (a limited time collab with Purely Elizabeth). This was where things got weird. They brought out our lattes and they tasted like plain lattes, no sweetness or flavors. We inquired with the waiter and he brought over the barista, both of whom told us that the lattes were as ordered. We questioned why there was no flavor or even granola visible on top as advertised. They then mentioned they were out of the granola. A few minutes later the waiter came back and said "I know what you're missing!" He brought us little containers of granola butter. And then finally, a few minutes after that, he brought us the sample packs of granola that should be given out with the latte. It was such a weird experience and totally understand that mistakes happen, but instead of owning up to it, they gaslit us and essentially tried to cover it up at first by saying we were not tasting the lattes correctly. The latte itself, even with the granola butter additions, was very average and not worth $7 in my opinion. Overall, I still give it 4 stars because the crogel was absolutely delicious and I look forward to trying other items!

Yelp
Cons: the service here is terrible! The hostess convinced us to sit at this table with these four teenagers. He had tried to get this other couple to take these seats, but they refused And then, when the parents of the teenagers showed up, the hostess made us get up and sit at another bar in the back. So annoyed. If this had happened in a restaurant, then they would've comped us a dessert or something. So then we sat in the back on these really uncomfortable barstool, and we weren't the only ones complaining about it because some guy next to us said that they made his back hurt. That they sat us in needs more soundproofing. I ordered a sparkling water and they didn't bring it to me till the end of the meal when I asked for it a third time. And they brought it to me without a glass, so I drank it right out the glass bottle. Very classy. Pros: the food is really good. So good I would come back. I think I had an avocado toast with smoked salmon. My friend had a chicken salad sandwich.
google avatar

Stephanie B.

Yelp
The food is very good. Always fresh and delicious! The coffee and lattes are okay. The service is always wonderful- especially Washington! He is always so kind to me and my sons.

Yelp
i came here for brunch on a saturday and waited ~20 minutes for a table for 2. the wait wasn't too bad as we were able to leave the restaurant and explore some stores in the area while waiting. i really liked the white brick wall with plants vibes of the interior, it made for a great ambiance. i had heard great things about the cookies, so i tried the nutty chocolate chip cookie, but unfortunately it didn't quite hit the spot. i also tried the seasonal frozen forest matcha latte and i could barely taste the non-matcha part. i really liked the papa's breakfast bowl, though -- it felt quite warm/homey :,) we sat at a small circular table, which i felt was a little too small. overall, i would come back for brunch but am less sure about the drinks/pastries.

Yelp
This place is ridiculously cute. We stopped in to pick up coffee and some pastries and we wished we had grabbed a table to enjoy it there. Highly recommend the PBJ cruffin. My partner said the chocolate and pistachio croissant was great too. Service was great - the staff was very accommodating to milk swaps and questions from us.

Yelp
Nice stop over for coffee and pastries as we shopped in Georgetown today. The place looks small but it is expansive as there are multiple back rooms. Bright airy and contemporary, the vibe is great. We had the chef's basket of selected pastries and different coffee drinks, however the rhubarb frozen drink sounded amazing. For brunch, light bites, and drinks, stop in to Maman!
google avatar

Christina R.

Yelp
We stopped in for brunch on a Monday. Overall, our experience was just fine. The good: - Service was amazing; the employee at the register was helpful, the food runners made sure we had everything we needed, and our table was consistently bussed. - The presentation of our food was gorgeous - Ambiance and decor was picturesque The meh: - The taste and texture of everything was lacking - The cortado was fairly bitter, although not terrible. It tasted as though it had some sort of spices in it, which I liked. - The mango-pineapple croissant roll had soggy pastry with no croissant-crunch, and the mango was kind of mashed into a coin-shaped puree at the bottom of the pastry. The mango not nearly sweet enough, and had a strange flavor and texture. The pineapple was quite good though. - The banoffee cruffin had great banana and caramel-y flavors, but again was missing the crunch you'd expect from such a pastry. - The breakfast sandwich overall was decent, but would have been better with one instead of two eggs. The caramelized onions had too strong of a vinegar flavor. - Pricing is steep, so I'd expect the food to be better for what we paid.

Yelp
I'll say it over and over - having happy, kind employees always takes my experience over the top. Our young server Ben was bright, on-the-spot, helpful and off to NYC in a few days for his first full time job. In a bustling cafe he was a joy to have as was my food. I had the farro bowl with avocado, and unique cacao red chile pepper sauce. I didn't use much but it provided an interesting spicy twist to an wonderful and favorite combination of breakfast elements. My London Fog was also great with unsweetened almond milk and it was a beautiful, fun, open garden-like space. Fantastic all the way around.

Yelp
Enjoyed a cappuccino and breakfast with a friend recently. A nice place to meet in Georgetown and enjoy the tasty treats.

Yelp
Delicious coffee and cake. Friendly service. Nice looking and feeling interior. I'm docking a star only because it was very difficult to get a table because of the many laptop users (at 4pm). I hope they are eating and drinking plenty!

Yelp
Pros: The place is Cute AF and the coffee is pretty good. Cons: Not all areas are wheelchair accessible and It was super crowded so it was hard to get around. The back room (not wheelchair accessible) is much quieter than the front area.

Yelp
$9.60 for a large hot chocolate with almond milk. Worse than San Francisco prices! That's highway robbery
