"Mama’s Boy is making some of Oakland’s best new slices. And that’s saying something, given that great new pizza joints have popped up like wild rabbits all over the East Bay. The two-story spot (from the people behind Oakland and San Francisco Athletic Club) feels like it’s been around for years, and the combination of family photos, red stools, and Pac-Man give this place a nostalgic touch. This Uptown slice shop nails the New York-style, including a bubbly crust that’s sturdy enough to hold the toppings. Be sure to get the pepperoni slice, but don’t overlook the behemoth heros on pillowy rolls." - Lani Conway

Google
Excellent barbershop! Clean, professional, and the barbers are skilled and friendly. Max P. gave me an amazing haircut and a perfect beard trim—precise, stylish, and exactly what I wanted. Highly recommend!

Google
I’ve been seeing Ben for my beard trims, and he always does a great job. He’s meticulous, making sure every line is sharp. Ben’s attention to detail is top-notch. The atmosphere at the shop is relaxed, and welcoming. If you’re looking for a barber who knows how to handle a beard with precision, then Ben’s your guy.

Google
I love this place, Ben & Angela are the BEST! I've had my hair cut here several times and both Ben and Angela are at the top of their game. I've always come out satisfied and feeling good about my cut. The prices are very reasonable, and there's always great music playing, and a fun and friendly atmosphere. They're also great people to chat with, so friendly and interested in their customers. My go-to place in Manhattan!

Google
I had an absolutely terrible experience at this so-called “barbershop.” I had booked an appointment with Mo Najjar, only to arrive and find that the shop doesn’t even exist. Instead, they’re running their business out of a small, dingy apartment which is completely misleading and fraudulent. The place itself was beyond disgusting. It was filthy, unsanitary, and completely neglected. Hair piles were everywhere, and it was clear that no one bothers to clean up. The environment was nothing like a real barbershop or salon, despite they charging the regular prices. As for the actual service – if you can even call it that – it was abysmal. Mo was not only unprofessional but outright arrogant. He spent the entire time on his phone, barely paying any attention, and then proceeded to butcher my hair. He cut my sidelocks extremely short without asking me, completely ruining my haircut. When I pointed it out, he had the audacity to blame me, saying I should have voluntarily told him not to do it – as if I can read his mind and predict his mistakes before he makes them. Sure, he knocked the price down to $30 instead of the $40 they charge for an actual salon cut, but that does nothing to make up for the disaster of an experience. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs – especially Mo and this shady apartment setup.

Google
Mo is an amazing barber. He does a phenomenal fade, is very detail-oriented, and consistently takes the time to make sure I’m happy. He’s also very thoughtful to make sure he doesn’t tear into my skin with clippers (something that too many NYC barbers do all too often). FYI - I recommend making reservations with Mo because he books up quickly!

Google
I have been getting my haircut by Ben at MamasBoy the past year and a half when I moved from Harlem to Hell’s kitchen. I’ve only had barbers of color because of my hair texture and dread locks. I also wear my hair in a multitude of styles, which can be tricky for certain barbers. I have been very happy with the quality of work and also the customer service. Ben does a great job listening and takes a lot of pride in his work. I’ve also recommended other friends to come get their haircut here and they enjoy the work.

Michael Morgan

Google
Great spot! They are great with cutting all types and styles of hair, and the staff is super friendly. The website is great for scheduling ahead, and during the weekends you can still walk in at any time. Highly recommend!!

Jason Castano

Google
Favorite barbershop and they love when my dog visits. Very welcoming

Amish S.

Yelp
Ben is a great guy and gave me one of the most thorough and best haircuts I have ever received. Have had many barbers mess up my hair so I had low expectations but the attention to detail was fantastic. Will be back

Tim D.

Yelp
Ben and the entire team are world class barbers. I've been coming here for two years now and I travel from across the city just to get my cut here. They're incredibly detail oriented with every cut which I highly appreciate. Would recommend 10/10 - I don't go anywhere else in the city.

Dillan G.

Yelp
Thanks Ben! Always a pleasure seen you and getting a great cut at a reasonable price!

Yelp
Mama's Boy Barbershop is my go-to place for a top-notch haircut, and I have the talented "Ben" to thank for it. Whenever I step into the shop, I know I'm in good hands with him. Ben's professionalism and skill are unmatched, and he always goes the extra mile to take care of my hair just the way I like it. What sets Ben apart is not only his exceptional barbering techniques but also his warm and friendly demeanor. He creates a welcoming atmosphere that makes every visit enjoyable. I love that he uses the old-school scissors method, a rare and classic approach that adds a unique touch to my haircut. In a bustling city like NYC, finding such a gem like Ben is truly a blessing. Mama's Boy Barbershop is a place where I not only get a fantastic haircut but also enjoy a pleasant and personable experience. I can't recommend Ben and the barbershop enough to anyone in search of a skilled barber who truly cares about his craft and clients. It's the best barbershop in town, hands down!

Michael M.

Yelp
EDIT: Ben the store owner has now scolded me for not doing my due diligence, so I can share more of my experience to further clarify my rating. Yes I expected to pay full price even with minimal work being done, but am still surprised at the cost. When I walked in and was sent to a chair, the barber stayed in his seat on his phone until I stood there awkwardly for a while and then he got up and mumbled where I should leave my coat. Additionally post hair cut I have found a few places that were missed and I have had to further trim my own hair so it would be even. I wrote this review immediately after my appointment and had not examined the full scope of the work done. Hope this helps!

Nathan S.

Yelp
From the moment you walk in, you're treated like an old friend. Very sweet staff (Angela's my personal favorite) and they take great care of their guests. I wish I could give it more stars!

West M.

Yelp
Waited an hour for a simple haircut and had people taken before me without waiting. Prices were ridiculous.

Eddie L.

Yelp
Mohamed gave me a great beard trim. Open all day on both Saturdays and Sundays. Thanks so much!

Carlos R.

Yelp
I highly recommend mamasboy_barbershop. I needed an urgent haircut today August 4, 2023 and Mohammad immediately took care of me. I felt valued as a guest and the whole experience was amazing. I would like to give a big thank you to the staff and Mohammad especially because he's the best. I'm in NYC temporarily, but from California. If you're looking for place to get a haircut look no further, I highly recommend Mohammad.

Gerad F.

Yelp
Wish I lived in NYC. Best haircut I've ever had. Will be coming here anytime I'm in town

Brett A.

Yelp
I've been here a handful of times and usually decent, maybe a bit behind, but the outputs are good. The last two times they were at least 15 mins behind schedule. Today they were understaffed, which I empathized with, but they were over-booked even for the staff they were supposed to have. There were 2 barbers with clients, and at times 5 people waiting. I waited about 30 mins past the time for my appointment, just to be deprioritized to other people coming in for later appointments, due to my selected barber not being in that day (I used the "any available barber" option online). I typically would give more leniency on the review, but the way in which neither barber would take me because I didn't specifically select them was incredibly odd. Tl;DR: If you are booking online, be sure to select one of the barbers rather than using the "next up" option. If you are trying to get a standard haircut within a reasonable hour timeframe, consider allotting more time or looking elsewhere.

Harry ..

Yelp
What are you waiting for? Once you try MAMA'S BOY BARBERSHOP you will never go to a raggedy barbershop. They are the best!!! You will feel like a family while you wait. You will never wait more than 10 minutes. They are the bestp; excellent staff; especially Ben and his mother!!! God bless them!!!

Austin L.

Yelp
Great place for a cheap quick haircut. Stopped here while transiting through NYC as I didn't have time to get a haircut before leaving. No complaints whatsoever. Appointment booking on Google was very easy, the haircut was high quality and quick, the staff are friendly and professional, and it was quite reasonably priced. If I lived in NYC I'd definitely come back here and probably be a regular if I lived close by.

Mike G.

Yelp
I must've accidentally hit 4 stars, don't know what I was thinking. Wouldn't do Nick justice to describe his work as 4 star. He's an elite barber that you can tell knows his stuff. He can do so many diff styles and nails each one. He gets you in quick and gets you out looking like he spent a few hours! He's highly sought out so be prepared to wait but he will get to you! See this guy for any kind of cut.

Andrew F.

Yelp
The hubby wanted to get a quick cut while visiting NYC for the weekend. In the area we were visiting, there were several places to choose from. Called to see if we could make an appointment and they gladly took him right away. He got the perfect "high and tight" cut at a very affordable price for the city. If you're in the area and looking for a good barbershop, we'd definitely recommend this place. Plus, what a great name. The most tough and masculine men around, are, ultimately, all mama's boys when it comes down to it. We love our mommas!

Sean-Ryan T.

Yelp
If you're black STAY AWAY. I've never had a worse barbershop experience that I did today. I went for a simple fade and line up and the barber RUINED the sides of my hair and when he finished (or so he thought) I had to ask a second time for a line up which he failed to do. I wanted to curse him out but he wasn't worth it. These barbers DO NOT know how to how to cut black people hair and were rude as well. Figures why they're located in HELL's kitchen. Below are pictures of what I wanted vs what I got. Stay away at all costs.

Chase R.

Yelp
Not many Barbers have a large clientele range these days, but these gents can handle it all. From edgy, different and trendy, to old school, common and/ typical quick trims... I've been coming here for two years since I relocated out here to NYC and one of the first appeals to the place was the diverse crowd they brought in, but more importantly over time, it was their ability to remember nearly everyone that came in, how they liked their cut, trim or fade and how thorough they are with each client. I've been to each barber in this shop and they've all been pretty awesome for the most part! Their skill is simultaneously N sync with one another and if there's one just not "cutting it" they're out relatively quick, which is important in this line of work in order to retain your business. They care about the satisfaction of their clients and that to me is key. On top of all of that, they're just a solid good group of guys, non-judgmental, in the heart of Hell's Kitchen, with a passion for what they do and the people they affect positively on a regular basis. ALBERT is my "Go To" barber. Closest to the window and just a chill conversational guy, solid family from the sounds of it and that's his passion. NICK (closest to the register) is one of the more tenured barbers at Aces and on top of his game, all while cracking jokes throughout the day, giving the others a hard time but all in good natured fun. RAFAEL - the oldest of the bunch who's always looking forward to his next vacation whether it be a cruise or somewhere with a bit of booze. AARON - cut my hair once or twice and also nailed it with exactly what I wanted. 4 of the most standup guys in the neighborhood and the only 4 who have repeatedly made this hairdo stay on fleek. Thanks Guys! Check out Aces and ask for Albert, Nick, Rafael or Aaron. -they're the sh*t, so take a big whiff

Joel Z.

Yelp
I'm kinda a snob about my haircuts and this was the first place I tried in NYC and I can honestly say I will be going back for every haircut as long as I am here. Good price and Ariel really knows what he's doing. He's there Wednesday , Thursday , Saturday and Sundays.

Abraham T.

Yelp
Great service and the highest quality haircut by Lian. Will come again, he made me switch from Bird's Barbershop to Muma's Barbershop!

Heath B.

Yelp
I love this place! Ben, Angela, and Rafael are all great stylists and a pleasure to be with. I always look forward to my experience and their ease of booking your appointment online is first rate. I used to visit the former hair business that was there but always felt like a cattle call. Happy to see new owners bringing out the best of the space! GREAT pricing - Highly recommend!

Tunaidi A.

Yelp
Pretty awesome shop. Funny barbers, reasonable prices, great hours. Albert's the man. Note: cash only

Nathan N.

Yelp
The real deal NY barber shop. Eli cut my hair (I think, he was closest to the window. If I'm wrong I apologize.) Great cut by a great dude! Straight razor shave on the neck. Very happy and I will go back. All the staff is very friendly and they will get you exactly what you want. If you want to be treated with top shelf customer service go see 3 Aces.

Elevate Y.

Yelp
Great Family owned barbershop! Highly recommend for quality hair cuts! Ben is a skilled barber who is skilled in his craft.

Adam S.

Yelp
Since a lot of my friends go to this place and it's in the neighborhood, I decided to check it out. I needed a haircut and a mustache trim/shape-up. My barber was Albert, in the first chair when you walk in. At first, I thought he was really cool. We made good conversation, and he cut my hair the way I wanted it. But when he started to shave my face with a straight razor, he cut me badly. (See photo attached. He actually cut me on BOTH sides of my mustache, but one side was much worse.) Once he saw the blood, he immediately began saying, "I didn't cut you! I didn't cut you!" Obviously, this was insane. Of course he cut me -- my face wasn't dripping in blood before I sat down in his chair. But he persisted: "I didn't cut you! You must have very sensitive skin -- your skin is just breaking out!" Being accidentally cut is one thing; having the person who did it refuse to take responsibility and apologize -- and instead accuse me of having some kind of skin problem!! -- is another. But I'm not about to argue with a man holding a sharp razor to my face, so I kept quiet and let him finish. When it came time to pay, I thought he might give me some kind of discount, seeing as he had just hacked my face apart. But no, it was $30 -- $20 for the haircut, and $10 for the hacking. I tipped him $2 -- far less than I normally would have -- and frankly, I'm pissed off at myself for tipping him at all. I can't speak about the other barbers at this place, but stay away from Albert if you value your skin.

Leeann B.

Yelp
Mother and son duo gave great haircuts and conversation. They were very accommodating and patient with my 7 year old son and took a lot of time to give him a special lightening bolt. Great spot!

Jeff C.

Yelp
Friendly, family business. Both Mama and her boy have cut my hair, both did a great job!

Turki A.

Yelp
Nice place for a quick hair cut or a hot towel shave. Highly recommended and also convenient money wise

Ian D.

Yelp
Got a great haircut at Mama's Boy Barbershop. I asked for a skin fade and got one of the best I've had in several years. I will definitely go back again.

Melissa S.

Yelp
Extremely accommodating, accepts walk-ins. Great with kids. Lines are always sharp. Very clean. Very welcoming family environment.

Gordon M.

Yelp
Well, I've never cursed at a barber before so I can cross that off my bucket list. This place doesn't care about customer service. I think the barber that cut my hair is named Yuri (?). He's the old one with grey hair and a belly. Towards the end of the haircut when he asked what I thought, I said "I think I'd like it a little shorter on the sides." As a customer that is absolutely my right to do and not an unreasonable request. That's when things went south. First he says "I think it's short enough." I say "you know, I'd really like it a little shorter." Then he rolls his eyes. Then there is sighing and him slowly dragging his feet over to get the clippers, followed by three to four minutes of him being a little rough with the clippers and breathing down my neck while the proceeds to make the sides shorter. When the other two barbers step outside for a break (the shop was empty at this point), the lecture starts. He says "why are you making it so difficult for me??" "I showed you how short I was going at the beginning of the haircut and you said it was fine!!!" "You're asking me for a completely different style!" "If a customer asks to change three things, then I have to change three things!" Well, excuse me for asking a barber to, you know, do his job! The reality was that he took a little more off the top than I was expecting so I wanted it a little shorter on the sides. HAS NO ONE EVER DONE THIS AT THE BARBER BEFORE??!!? He wouldn't. Stop. Complaining i'm not proud, but I definitely started giving it back to him. I explained that I was a paying customer, noted that he had NO OTHER customers waiting for him (...which makes sense) and that the shop was still open for another hour (so I wasn't keeping him past closing). I also said that I had had a long day/week and didn't need his s*** or to be spoken to like this. He kept going back to the fact that 25 minutes earlier I had told him the sides were short enough and that he didn't want to change it, and I said I was sorry that he was so lazy. When he asked if I wanted mousse or gel, I said what I wanted was to "get the f*ck out of his chair" because I was DONE! So...I left super pissed and definitely won't be coming back here. Luckily there are lots of barbers here in Hells Kitchen!! Recommendations?

Nathan M.

Yelp
Despite moving to Brooklyn, I still come here to get hair cut. All the barbers wear masks and ev chair has plastic barriers on both sides for isolation. Ariel is such a kind and talented barber that can give a super clean fade. He's very attentive to detail and takes his time to ensure a high quality hair cut. I highly recommend going to him. I believe he's chair #3

Peter M.

Yelp
3 Aces is a gem in a neighborhood with many old school barber shops. This is not a hair salon. It's barbers and banter and lots of opinion and gossip. It's a place to get a hair cut and a a hot towel wrap razor shave. A nice mix of neighborhood regulars and out of towers. Very reasonably priced and walk ins no problem. Ask for Joseph.

Ben B.

Yelp
I didn't have a chance to get a haircut before our trip to NYC, so I when I walked by this barbershop as I found my way to a bakery that was on my list of places to hit up, I thought "I could go for a haircut and a shave". I did a Yelp search for barbershops in my general area (Times Square) and one of the top rated ones was 3 Aces, recognizing that it was the same shop I had walked by before, I realized it was perfect, I knew where it was and the reviews pretty much guaranteed I would be taken care of. The barbershop was a little busy when I got there on Sunday afternoon, but I didn't wait any more than 10 minutes before Isaac was ready to cut my hair. I told him how I liked it, 1 on the sides and to trim the top up. He said something to effect of "No problem, I got you." Helped to complete my NYC barbershop experience. As he cut my hair I was a little worried here and there that he cut too short, but after he was done and some gel was in it, he did a better job than my barber back home. As per the shave, there was one person getting shave the day I walked by, and with the one review on here about getting cut during the shave, I was a little nervous, but I figured I would risk it. I had a wee bit of razor burn, but by the time of my concert (Billy Joel) there wasn't any noticeable irritation. And it was my closest shave that I've had in a long time. He trimmed up my goatee nicely as well, my wife loves it. I would highly recommend Isaac and in general the 3 Aces Barber Shop was a great experience.

Aaron B.

Yelp
ALBERT is the best barber in NYC! Will give you an expert fade and some good laughs at an honest price.

Rob P.

Yelp
I've been a patron since 2012 and always had a great cut. I became buds with Albert and he has taken care of me for a while. He does a great job with my hair. Listens to what I want. Recently after a year of talking about shaving my head I finally did it. Of course I went to Albert and he of course did a FANTASTIC job on my head. It's smooth and sharp looking. I recommend 3 Aces and Albert to anyone that wants a good price and a great cut. Albert also is very good at trimming and shaping the beard.

Sam H.

Yelp
Dirty and unhygienic spot. Went to get a beard trim which was half done and barber wanted to charge my twice as much to clean it up. Pathetic! PM me to read my exchange with the owner. Spend your money elsewhere. To respond to Owner: I was not given my end of the bargain, so please do not fabricate lies and give excuses for the pathetic/dirty business you run. I clearly stated what I wanted and was then asked to pay more. You can't just change the price half way through the process. A beard trim doesn't exactly stop at the face (it goes below to the neck as well). Happy to chat over the phone but I do not appreciate the tone and will gladly report you health & human services for an investigation if you continue down this path of mistreating customers.

Markus S.

Yelp
Love these guys! Very efficient and true barber styles. I've been coming here since I moved to HK in October 2017. I need a cut about every 10 days, so it's important that I find a place that's a good price. $20 plus tip and they still do a hot foam neck shave at the end. Really fun group of guys and good operating hours including weekends and snow days!

Yang Y.

Yelp
Ben is a great barber and kind human being. I love getting my haircut at his place and he always makes the experience so warm and welcoming. There are many good barber shops around hell's kitchen but he made his place great . Also the booking with Google made it a lot easier. This is the first time ever that I don't feel like cutting my hair elsewhere, and always looking forward to my next haircut. Thank you Ben

Andy R.

Yelp
I went here as a walk in and was hoping to be pleasantly surprised from the other reviews. But my barber was obviously sick and was wiping their nose with their hand and touching my face right after. I was cut multiple times while getting a shave and will not be going back.

Adam Z.

Yelp
This one star is only for the look I got there. People still nice, and service still good. Only thing is I didn't get what I want. I show the barber the pic of style I want, and I got totally different look. Even in the end the barber still telling me this is the style that I ask for. I mean i don't know if the barber is in a very down mood or. He just f**k up my hair. I won't came back.

Eric H.

Yelp
Mike was right on point! Had walked by several times looking for a new barber. A co-worker made the recommendation and finally I went in. Excellent customer service, I looked around at the patrons and it appeared all the barbers were doing a great job. Mike was amazing from shave to cut to beard trim.

Yared R.

Yelp
Long waiting time and completely rushed a fade because 'there were other people in line.' When asked to complete a beard trim shown in a picture of the cut at the beginning of the session, the barber said, 'asking for further requests is not what we do around here.' After questioning further he proceeded to hurriedly cut the beard without touching the mustache or reducing to desired length in what took 5 mins. The result was an uneven haircut and unfinished beard trim.

Perry B.

Yelp
Albert is amazing great haircut reasonable price $20 and works fast They accommodate walk ins and have at least 5-7 barbers working at all times

Kyle M.

Yelp
Edit: Had a not so great experience here and got in touch with the owner. He was super helpful and immediately got back to me to set up a new appointment to fix what went wrong. Nick is a great barber and a solid dude and I would absolutely recommend waiting for him if you walk in here. He made a wrong right when he could have just told me to screw off, and I absolutely respect him for that. New cut is very clean and I couldn't be happier.

Pavan C.

Yelp
Excellent service, friendly staff, awesome fades! Highly recommend!! Also family owned - son & mother team! Hence the name "mama's boy"

Edmund S.

Yelp
The quality far exceeded my expectations. In hopes of finding a new local barber shop yesterday, I found this particular one of Yelp which has glamorous reviews. So I decided to give them a try. The guys in there were very nice and professional. My barber took the time to understand I wanted and once he did, it was like watching a master at work. All I have to say is that he knows how to do his fades. In the end, I walked out feeling like I found my new go-to for a while.

Edward Xavier B.

Yelp
Getting my hair cut by Bobby Big time aka Boris. He's funny, cool and is giving me an amazing haircut after my breakup. Love to be surrounded by good people! Peace and Love, much respect! Big time Bobby your magic worked! I'm driving from Philadelphia each month to cut my haircut from you! Thank you my friend and the cool guys at the shop.

Alex T.

Yelp
3 aces bro - give it a fuckin go Seriously tho they good Yo Yelp how long does this dumbass review got to be I already told u it's good just go there

Bryan T.

Yelp
Popped in here on a recent trip to NYC. Was immediately greeted and Nick did a great job and hooked it up. If/when I'm ever back in the area I will most definitely stop in for a cut.
