Mammoser's is a hole-in-the-wall dive bar. It is dark. It is dank. It has questionable cleanliness, with a few buzzing flies to corroborate this observation. But it embraces its hole-in-the-wall status, and isn't trying to be anything other than what it is. As long as you are okay with that, if you are a chicken wing eater, you should definitely give Mammoser's wings a try. I am no longer a wing eater, but on the night we stopped by my husband went for their signature dish. The price is reasonable for wings these days, at $11 for a single order of ten. They are served hot and crispy. Sauce choices are simple: mild, medium or hot of their own signature homemade sauce. The friendly barkeep warned us that hot is hotter than most hots, as it is a special recipe, not your typical Frank's and butter. So my husband went for medium, with a side of the hot sauce so he could dare-to-dip a few wings. The sauce has a darker, richer, grittier consistency. I took a small dip on a fry. And indeed the server was correct--hot is EXTRA hot here. But it was a curious hot, definitely a different heat profile from other hot sauces. My husband really enjoyed his wings, which were cooked just how he likes them, with some crisp on the outside, and soft and juicy on the inside. They weren't huge wings, but not tiny either. As for me, I went with a large garden salad and a side of fries. The salad was big, filling up a large oval plate, with lots of fresh cucumbers, chickpeas, radishes, and tomatoes tossed in mixed greens. The fries were really good too; they seemed home-cut and were soft, the way I prefer them. We ate in the dining room, which is small and scary. There are dead animal heads on the walls, which as a vegetarian is not my favorite scenery when dining. (FYI, I did see patio seating out front for warmer seasons.) After eating, we moved over to the bar for a while to watch the end of a hockey game. Plenty of TVs to enjoy a sporting event here, with a small bar that accommodates I'd say about 15 chairs, or so. I noticed at the bar you can purchase jars of Mammoser's signature hot wing sauce, which I may grab as a stocking stuffer for the hubbs the next time I'm nearby, as he did enjoy the unique heat of their blend. If you are in the quaint Village of Hamburg area, looking for a quality wing to enjoy in a local dive atmosphere, Mammoser's definitely lives up to those expectations.
