Yelp
Super cute espresso bar in an uppity neighborhood near the Warehouse District, if you aren't bothered by the price it would be a fun place to visit.
I stopped by earlier today and had a chai latte with orange milk and a slice of a green tea cake with lemon and poppyseeds, which came out to about $18 with tip included. Again, there's an element of sticker-shock there, but I understand given the location, ambiance and quality of the food and beverages.
The interior of Mammoth is small, with the whole place being able to seat a dozen people, generously. In the center of the bar was a table where a group of women were having a business meeting, and it seemed to have ample space for them to have laptops, papers, etc out and still be comfortable enough to talk without disturbing anyone else in the space. Along the edge of the space were three sets of tables for two, and along the street-facing window there was bar seating. I loved the menu board - which seemed to be either hand-carved or laser-burned into a wood panel - and the wonderful collection of a pants that they had around the space. Something about plants makes a space seem more lively and comfortable, and especially when it's smaller.
The chai latte was great. They have alternative milks available, and it was served in a ceramic mug with a nice layer of steamed foam on top. I also really enjoyed my green tea cake - I'm not surely exactly what was in it, but it was tasty and wasn't too sweet which made it ideal for a morning breakfast snack. For some reason they didn't have forks, and even though that struck me as a bit odd it ultimately wasn't much of a problem since most of the pastries seemed easy to pick up and eat with your hands.
The staff were super friendly and speedy with greeting my chai and pastry ready, and even stepped out to wipe down the bar and tables before I sat down just to make sure they were clean. I really appreciated how they made sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. To my right there was someone working on the laptop at the bar, and they also seemed to be well-respected and taken care of by the staff.
Ultimately, I'm kind of dissuaded by the price since I'm someone on a student budget - but I'm not going to hold that against this place. You get what you pay for, and I felt like this is a great place if you really cared about the quality of what you were getting. I'm not incredibly into different varieties or roasts of coffee, but they seemed to attract that kind of clientele.
Would recommend to a friend, would stop by again or possibly suggest for a meeting, interview, or some other business function since it is so conveniently located to the Garden District and the Central Business District.
They also have their own custom mugs, very cute if you're into collecting those.
