Mammoth - Review - Eastlake - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Editor's Note: Mammoth is temporarily operating out of their Ballard sister restaurant, Bitterroot BBQ. Enjoying a truly great sandwich and a cold beer is a basic human right - it’s up there with voting, freedom of speech, and being able to pet at least three puppies quarterly. But there aren’t a lot of places in Eastlake where you can get both. Except for Mammoth, a fun beer bar that has incredible sandwiches. Mammoth is operated by the same team behind Bitterroot BBQ, one of our favorite BBQ restaurants in town. They clearly know their way around a smoker - the club sandwich with smoked turkey and the Cubano with pulled pork are the best two choices because the meats are prepared in-house. There are other winners here too, like the Predator, a monstrous fried chicken sandwich that we swear makes Jurassic Park-style ripples in your beer glass when you set it on the table. As a bonus, every sandwich comes with a little bag of crispy homemade potato chips dusted with an herby spice mix. We’re still trying to guess the seasonings so we can make a batch at home. While this place sounds like some kind of omnivore clubhouse, they do serve quite a few vegetarian options - like a marinated tofu banh mi and fried eggplant hero with goat cheese (and biscuit sandwiches for brunch on the weekends). But, the meaty sandwiches are just better. Nothing against eggplant. You’d be wrong to not get a sandwich here, but if you really aren’t hungry, this is also a great place to come if you’re into beer. They have 43 different taps pouring lots of locally-brewed IPAs, pilsners, and an equally long bottle list. Plus, the atmosphere is way less divey than most other spots in Eastlake where you’d grab a pint. In a neighborhood loaded with bakeries, espresso bars with panini presses, and corner marts “proudly serving Boar’s Head,” Mammoth fills a void that Eastlake needs. It’s the best spot in the neighborhood for a sandwich, the best spot in the neighborhood for a beer, and the best spot in the neighborhood for both. Food Rundown Tusk Leave it to BBQ people to make great smoked meat - this turkey club’s the best thing here with bacon, melty cheddar, and a pleasantly dill-y ranch. We want this sandwich to be our new default lunch. Saber-Tooth If you’re with one other person, get both a Tusk and Saber-Tooth to share. This sandwich is their riff on a Cubano made with pulled pork, ham, swiss, pickles, charred onions, and a really tasty dijon aioli. Predator Before ordering the Predator, consult your inner self and decide if you’re really hungry - because this is a beastly sandwich with crispy fried chicken thigh, bacon, roasted red peppers, arugula, swiss, and caper aioli. The crunchy batter on the chicken is seasoned perfectly, and the melted cheese and mayo combine to make a delicious sauce. Dodo If you’re really in the mood for chicken salad, you’ll be content with Mammoth’s version with raisins, crunchy celery, and whole-grain mustard. However, the smokiness of the chicken is a bit overpowering. Herbivore This is a dependable vegetarian sandwich that won’t make you sad - we’re fans of the fried eggplant sub with goat cheese, arugula, roasted red peppers, and caramelized onions. Cro-Magnon You can safely skip this version of a muffaletta - all of the deli meats stacked on top of each other are too chewy and tough. Potato Chips If every food was sprinkled with Mammoth’s homemade potato chip seasoning, the world would be a better place." - Aimee Rizzo

The Best Restaurants and Bars Near Seattle Center | Eater Seattle

"In 2023, this sandwich shop relocated from Ballard down to Mercer Street and became an immediate go-to for people who like to pregame the theater with a big, meaty, slightly sloppy sandwich. Just don’t drip pulled pork or tuna salad on your going-out clothes." - Meg van Huygen

The Best Sandwich Shops in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"Now in a new location next to Seattle Center, Mammoth is for the carnivores. Except for a spin on a tofu banh mi, the sandwiches are heavy on the meat. The Sabertooth has pulled pork and ham, for instance, and the Predator pairs smoked chicken thigh and bacon. The miracle here is that there’s always a hint of brightness — from pickled onions, caper aioli, or cranberry jam — that balances the richness of the meat." - Eater Staff

Where To Go When You’re Hungover And Want To Die - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Mammoth is a beer bar, but you’re not here for that right now. You’re here for subs the size of your head. They make sandwiches on really good baguettes, and have a ton of options, like a housemade smoked turkey club with cheddar and ranch, a riff on a Cubano, and a beastly fried chicken thigh with swiss and roasted red peppers. They travel well too so you can grab it to-go and resume your position on the couch or floor if you want." - aimee rizzo

Update: sandwiches are bomb! The bread is phenomenal 🔥🔥🔥 Seattle’s best summer hang! I LOVE the fact that they have slushies (that you can boozify)… perfect for a hot day. Plus it’s got the outdoor area. While I haven’t eaten here, it’s only a matter of time - I can’t wait to try their sandwiches (don’t forget the ice cream sando). ALSO, Lexie is awesome company :)

Amazing sandwich shop in Seattle! I got the paleolithic sandwich and a non-alcoholic slushie. The sandwich has ingredients like a banh mi but the bread is a different type. The bread is absolutely delicious!! I have never had any bread like that before and it is so good. The slushie is also really good. I highly recommend coming here for lunch! One thing you probably want to keep in mind is that they take a while to make your sandwich on the spot, so during rush hour it can take up to 30 mins of waiting—it is definitely worth the wait!

Great little spot across from Seattle Opera. The sandwiches seriously are exceptional. Great ingredients and f-ing fabulous bread. Hot and grilled. Not microwaved. Atmosphere is so cool. Have a sandwich and a drink, listen to good music and enjoy the art supplies available to play with. Stop looking at your phone and indulge your senses.

The best place to grab food near Seattle Center. Locally owned, the nicest staff and excellent food and drink options - I’m particularly keen on their adult slushies (they also have an N/A one if booze isn’t your thing.) The owner(?) and her son were working on our most recent visit and provided toys for my toddler to play out in the fountain out front. They were also able to accommodate a soy and dairy allergy in our group. 11/10 will always recommend this place.

I came for the brisket sandwich Taurus, and it was mid at best. Luckily my partner got the cro-magnon(spicy Italian) and I really hate to say it, but it was the best sandwich I’ve ever had.

If you're headed to Seattle Center, stop by Mammoth for some of the best sandwiches in the city. Highly recommend the Taurus. The potato salad is delicious too.
