Dined in here before seeing a movie at the AMC next door. Honestly the food was good! The ambience of the restaurant is lacking though so it was not the greatest dine in experience. The Chinese food here is perfect for Chinese take out though! Crab cheese Wontons and egg rolls were crispy, hot and the filling was delicious. Wontons could have more immigration crab but the wontons had a great inside texture. The combo lo mein had great flavor and the meats in the lo mein tasted good. They could add some veggies in there for color since it looked brown but no big deal the taste was there. I really liked the sesame chicken it was smothered with sauce and the chicken was crispy hot and was not just overly breaded chicken like I have experienced elsewhere. NOTE: you need to order rice separately. Rice is not served with any entrees. I'm definitely coming back for takeout!

Google
Shared 4 dishes Chef special fried rice and a Chef special dish Kong Bao. Also a shrimp fried rice and vegetable noodles dish. Along with two well cocktails. All were large servings costing $13 - $15 each. I would eat here again. They were out of fortune cookies and only had one dessert, cheesecake.

I came in for the pan fried chefs noodles. Unfortunately, the prices on the online menu are different than the ones at the restaurant and their website/in house menu, my meal cost me about 3 dollars more. I got my order to go, cost about 10 dollars. After waiting less than 10 minutes, my order was up. The food was piping hot and all the meat, shrimp, veggies and noodles were cooked perfectly. Good dish if you are staying away from spicy meals.

Huge size! Affordable price! Fresh food! Nice server! Friendly atmosphere! It has been doing business over 20 years in Seattle! If you want to experience the local feeling, come here to have a fun! You also can enjoy some wonderful drinks in the bar and have Karaoke. They offer fast food delivery of $18 minimum order within 45 minutes. Recommend it!

Google
Good food. I had sweet and sour pork, pork fried rice, and spring rolls as takeout. Service was fast and friendly.

Google
Best Chinese food in Seattle. My husband and I make at least one trip per week for takeout. Everyone is nice and the food is always piping hot and as-ordered.

Edit: I called to make an order and discovered they are now closed :( . I love this place. Great food every time. people leaving bad reviews are those kind of karen type people... awesome food. Im ordering right now actually and thought I should leave a review.

Yelp
Update. I attempted to order my dinner today. I received a little push back about my last visit/review. I will like to start out by saying, I do recommend Mandarin Gate as a restaurant. I had one bad experience over a 20 year span. Will I eat there again, Hell ya, will I check my to go order before I leave the restaurant, hell ya!!! I know if I was sitting at a table, there is no way they would serve me these brunt, old, dried out $17.00 ribs. No way! I will not retract my last post, but I want to make it clear the food at the MD is good.

Yelp
I ordered delivery from here through Uber eats. I was excited to try this place and saw they had empress shrimp, which a lot of Chinese places don't have in Seattle. It said it was lightly fried. It came with so much breading I thought it was a donut. You can't even tell it's shrimp. The sauce itself was okay. The mushy vegetable came with so much egg, and I specifically asked for no egg. It just tasted like wet dog and after two bites I had to throw it out. The egg rolls were overly fried and nothing special. Even the steamed rice was dry and clumpy. Nothing beats Shanghai garden in Chinatown. I will not be ordering from here again.

Yelp
*** CLOSED AS OF 4/30/2024 *** Yet another quality restaurant that just can't afford to stay open. One of my friends blamed it on COVID-19, which is not an unreasonable assertation, given that it killed a lot of businesses that would never return. It took some businesses to run their course longer than others. It's sad, as for me and many of my neighbors it was only 200 yards away. My brother had his wedding reception here in 2002. Goodbye, Mandarin Gate.

Yelp
Went to Mandarin Gate on a Saturday evening with 3 friends for dinner. I don't think they gave a rat's ass if we were there or not. The young man at the front desk remained seated, didn't stand up to greet us. He didn't speeak but stayed on his phone and simply pointed at the dining room. I immediately noticed there were no other diners but there were 3 tables that had not been bussed. Our waitress was pleasant but not especially concerned about serving us. Food was okay (no one got ill). This is an unfortunate change from the Mandarin Gate we used to know. Maybe since Covid19 they now exist mostly on takeout/deliveries and karaoke in the bar. Ain't going back. My wallet has legs 'n it'll find better Chinese restaurants.

Yelp
This is a very easy stop if you're going to the movies right next door. They are open somewhat late even on a weeknight which is very convenient. They have a bar so you can get a Mai Tai or whatever you like with your dinner. The serving portion is generous. The vegetables spring rolls are definitely vegetable and have a very crisp snap to them.

Yelp
Started eating here about 30 years ago. The Oaktree used to be Seattle best movie theater, so having quality Chinese food in the parking lot was a bonus. I think we tried this place because they used to be in the Entertainment Book annually. They may still be there, but I stopped buying the book a year or two before the pandemic. Most of the casual and fine dining option were limited, so there was no point in continuing to pay. When you came here, service was fast, friendly and prices were reasonable. There may have been a couple 5 star meals in the dozens I had over the years, but this place was probably 3.5/5, 4/5 on a really good day. They proudly posted a photo of George Bush Senior eating there. Never asked the story, but I figured if it was good enough for a world leader, it was good enough for me. On my most recent visit, it was clear it was my last, service was slow, rude and the quality of the food was 100% horrible. The Empress chicken is normally crisp, flavorful and spicy. I got soggy chicken that was bland and chewy and tasted more like sweet and sour than its normal flavor explosion. I also had the Fried Wonton, which I think are a new addition. I'm used to a gumball size wonton friend in its skin, what I got was a tic tac size. There were less wontons in the entire appetizer than a single piece from any other restaurant. Our water was never filled, and we were never served tea, flies were everywhere and the woman who was clearly the Boss according to our receipt didn't care anything about our experience. I'm not sure when this became The New Mandarin Gate, but feel confident that was due to an ownership change and new owners are going to milk and run this place into the ground. Seattle just lost one of it's last decent Chinese eateries.

Max L.

Yelp
Ordered here off of Uber eats. The food is absolutely disgusting. It's watery and tasteless. Consider other good Chinese food around the city, anything is better than this place.

Catherine T.

Yelp
I don't know what it is about this place's egg rolls, but holy fuck are they good! I could easily eat ten of them and later line my cardiologist's pockets from my ER bill. Their honey walnut prawns are definitely good. The fried rice is on par. The crab rangoon are typical, as are the hot and sour, and egg drop, soups. All of it is good Americanized Chinese food, except for one dish: the green onion pancakes. Perhaps I just got a bad batch the one time I tried them, but they seemed undercooked. They should definitely be crispier. Don't worry, I'll give those pancakes another shot. With egg rolls as good as they have, I've ordered several times, and I'll order several more times. You're welcome, cardiologist.

Mark W.

Yelp
Ordered the "family dinner" for delivery. It says it comes with soup, crab rangoon, and spring roll. Literally got a single serving of soup, a single crab rangoon, a single serving of rice, and a single spring roll. Apparently, families are getting smaller. The chicken was good, but I'm pretty put off by the "family" proportions, and won't be ordering from them again.

Krista R.

Yelp
I tried a few different dishes and overall I was impressed! The egg roll and crab rangoon we great, nice and crispy even when delivered, and the sauce was different but delicious! Hot & sour soup is delicious- nice and spicy with lots of flavor. Sesame chicken had a lot of breading but it was still very comforting and yummy. And last, garlic chicken was fresh and tasty, it came with mushrooms and carrots which were both nice compliments. I'll definitely order again!

L P.

Yelp
Unbelievable service in not trying to make a customer, of long time, happy. Ordered Moo Shu Pork for delivery. No pancakes delivered. Called and they will be delivered. Started eating other food. Pancakes came 25 minutes later. Not hungry any more. Woman that is always at front and on the phone will not credit. "We don't do that". AND overspeaking so I could not be heard. PLUS the Moo Shu Pork was all cabbage. Last several times food not up to par. Just lost a customer.

Susane G.

Yelp
The food was great and so was the staff. Very helpful in picking the amount we needed and to what was their best selling dish. Love this place and will be going back again.

Barbra W.

Yelp
Been going here for years, the food is amazing, service is always quick and friendly. The atmosphere is very calming with nice music and beautiful artworks all around, as well as a fish tank with very nice fish. The entire experience is very calming. 1000000% recommend to anyone.

Pamela M.

Yelp
I love this place. The people r so nice! And they have tablecloths on their tables. The food is great and it's right by oaktree cinemas! Lunch and a movie ! Awesome! The best sweet and sour pork anywhere !! Wonderful soup and cream cheese wontons! It's north Seattle on Aurora. See looks as awesome as it tastes !

Yelp
So I have wanted to try this place since moving back home .. There was a Mandarin Gate in Eastgate that had the best General Tso chicken .. I stopped in the bar for some takeout and a drink after picking up some medication for my dog next door at my vet Greenwood Vet.. Friendly people in the bar and the bartender, Jessica ( I am pretty sure was her name ) made a delicious Mojito in which she brings the mint from her garden .. Ordered some General Tso chicken and BBQ fried rice .. Food came out super fast and I finished my drink and headed home .. The chicken was a little over breaded but very tasty .. The sauce was perfect and I will order it again .. The fried rice was delicious with plump pieces of peas and carrots .. I posted a picture but I am impressed with what I had as the servings were huge and it will all get eaten in the next few days .. They have awesome lunch specials also and a huge menu and delivery .. Karaoke every night in the bar from 9pm to 130!! I will be back

Yelp
Awesome spot after a movie. Service was prompt, friendly, amazing! Wife and I had the crab Rangoon, sweet & sour chicken with the sauce on the side, and the Szechuan green beans (a little spicy, but I like it really spicy). All super delicious! Might just be our new got to place after a flick.

Alex N.

Yelp
Friendly place, never crowded and fast service! Food is delicious and wide variety. The lunch menu is cheap and amazing, comes with soup and large portions! Always come here for their lunch special, I get the cashew chicken or the pan fried noodles. Their seafood dishes are a tad bit smaller in portion. Their sweet and sour soup along with their other soups are amazing. Parking lot is easy, lots of spaces. Cl

Yelp
My husband and I stopped here for an early dinner right before our movie. This was our first time and it certainly won't be the last! The food was delicious - we each ordered an individual dinner combo and everything was hot, flavorful and filling. Husband got the garlic chicken (it comes with saucey mushrooms) and I got the kung pao chicken and shrimp (it was genuinely spicey). The dinner combo comes with soup, fried rice or white rice and an eggroll. Those eggrolls are no joke! Pure crispy and crunchy goodness. The service was attentive. We were seated right away, got our orders in, and the waitress stopped by several times to check in and refill waters. If you are looking for a fresh and delicious meal before seeing a movie, we highly recommend coming here! The menu was extensive and we are looking forward to trying more dishes.

Yelp
I like Mandarin gate, they are friendly, they delivered fast and gave good amount of food. The other Chinese restaurant Yu Shan I tried to order Chinese food, one minute they said they don't come upstairs to deliver, next minute they said the car had some problem, they might not to deliver, and next minute they said their driver not come to work so they didn't have driver. Over all Yu Shan too proud.

Yelp
Love this place! Neighborhood feel with lots and lots of regulars that love this place and have been coming here for years. Employees are friendly and helpful. Food here is delicious and very reasonable. I had their garlic wings which everyone raves about along with a very generous bourbon. Other dishes that are great include the almond chicken, walnut shrimp, empress prawns, anything noodles. Anything and all are good. Helen the owner hand makes the potstickers and spring rolls every night. Yum! Go! Awesome!!

Yelp
I've only had delivery. It took about 40 minutes from Oak Tree Village to Green Lake. Eat here if you're broke and have no tastebuds. I'd say the only thing that was passable was the fortune cookie, but I think even that was a tad on the stale side. Crab rangoons are disgusting. They taste like the kitchen ran out of normal cream cheese and so some joker stuffed the rest with vanilla or some sweetened cream cheese. GROSS. Won ton soup was edible, but so salty even soy sauce didn't taste salty after. I'm the kind of person who salts THEN tastes, so that's really saying something. It was greasy, but props for the pork bits and egg strips. Steamed pork dumplings are okay. The sauce they came with was also okay. Kung Bao Chicken was not hot at all. I even ate that pepper. How do you make a pepper unspicy? I was so delighted when I saw that after delivery charge, two lunch special (soup, rice, appetizer) and the order of dumplings only came out to 21.00 and change. Now I understand why the prices are so good-- the food is so bad. **Edited-- I've never had an MSG reaction. I think I am having one now. It is awful. Don't eat here! I am sad to admit I'd be willing to come back for karaoke and drinks ONLY. Gotta go lie down now...

Amy K.

Yelp
Literally the worst chinese restaurant. I cannot think of one good thing to say. The place is filthy. The plastic coverings on the chairs have come up and now actually cut your legs when you sit down. This is the case for every chair in the establishment. The employees are rude, dismissive and couldn't give a damn if you eat there or not or if you recieve and type of service or acknowledgement. The woman that took us to our table actually yelled at us to "sit down". My mother was shocked and leaned over and asked me if we were in some kind of a horror movie lol there was not a single other person dining in this restaurant and it felt like some dust covered place that would be found in a city where you are the last people alive hiding from the zombies. Avoid this place at all costs. There's really nothing more to say, complete trash on all fronts. You'd be lucky if you don't get sick from eating here!

Joyce W.

Yelp
If I could give a minus I would. First of all the new owner is worn out, and rude. She sits at the front desk sleeping and when awake, well, lets just say grumpy..any other word would get this post removed. The second issue, the filthy dirty conditions all over from the entrance..smells like urine, the bathrooms, broken and filthy..unfit for any living creature. The food? Well, I've experienced better frozen food from gas stations.. The bar area is enough to give one a very bad night.. The service is pathetic..really bad..Avoid

Karen E.

Yelp
The staff was so rude I walked out of the restaurant. The old man threw the menu with an no care attitude. We ordered a what we wanted and he was rude. We went to Rickshaw restaurant and had delicious food and fantastic service.

Austin W.

Yelp
Typical Chinese American fare. Good tea. The staff were all very friendly the waitress was really patient and polite with my party and I enjoyed the 1980s action movie-set feel of the place. The menu was very large with too many options, could benefit from an overhaul and simplification. Prices were average for this type of establishment. I tried the sweet and sour chicken and the chef special pan fried noodles. The chicken was very tasty, sweet and sticky and very crispy. The noodles were fine, a little soggy and greasy. Good for a take out dinner.

Herman T.

Yelp
Mandarin Gate has emerged as my go-to Chinese joint. I have been here hundreds of times and I can't say I've ever been disappointed. I knew I had fallen in love with this place when my wife and I were out for New Year's Eve. We had a wicked hankering for Chinese for some reason and we wanted a nice sit down dinner. We went to one place whose kitchen had a two hour delay. I want to say that was understandable but......no. We waited there for some minutes then finally decided to leave. We didn't have a plan as all the other Chinese spots were in similar condition. We decided to ride past MG just to see what the crowd was like. JACKPOT!!! There weren't many people there at all. We got seated and had a lovely meal. One of the best things about this joint is it's location. It close to the HT Asian Market, Starbucks, and most importantly the movie theater. There are even some other businesses in the area that I look forward to trying. The parking lot does get a little crowded from time to time but no big deal. The food here is very tasty. I am a creature of habit so my go-to is shrimp fried rice and vegetable spring rolls. They always get this right. My wife and I also like the Orange chicken and crab rangoons. We very rarely stray from that lineup. We are also really satisfied with the service we there. The staff isn't especially talkative which we don't have a problem with but they aren't rude either like some other Chinese food restaurants we have tried. The nice lady with the glasses that always works up front functions more like dispatch than a host. She's doesn't really stand up or escort you to your seat but she does a great job sending the wait and kitchen staff this way and that. MG probably won't blow your wig off your head but they are solid as a rock

Keri D.

Yelp
Wish i could select no stars. The food is awful. The crab wontons taste (and look) like there is nothing but mayonnaise inside. Both mine and my husband's dishes were flavorless and the ingredients were poor quality. I'd rather go hungry than order from here again.

Iryna B.

Yelp
Very mediocre food experience. Seafood soup had barely any seafood in it and what was there was more of a crab stick and vegetables variety. The dumpling were horrible, very thick dough and hardly any filling inside. The special cold chicken was nothing like the supposed hainnese chicken , but just cold boiled chicken very spicy with peanut Thai sauce All in all although cheap but not worth it

Joshua L.

Yelp
Gross, gross, gross. Do yourself a favor and drive 3 minutes south to eat at Fu Shen instead. My potstickers were undercooked and bland. The sesame beef was burnt and tasted like burnt oil. I ordered egg drop soup and received won ton soup that tasted like dirty dish water and the cheesecake was completely freezer burnt. This operation does not care about their customer service or quality of food. Skip it. Go somewhere else.

Brandon S.

Yelp
Tasty hybrid of American and Traditional Chinese menu items! Ordered takeout on a Monday night and the food was ready super fast. I'm pretty sure I interacted with the same hostess that has been mentioned in other reviews, but she was friendly and helpful in answering questions both about menu items over the phone and when picking up my order. We ordered a few American-style dishes (garlic chicken and Hunan chicken) and a few more traditional dishes (braised pork belly and Szechuan green beans). First of all- the portions on all of these were HUGE. They come in takeout containers that look like those every other Chinese restaurant uses except these are like 50% deeper and they are full to the brim! All four dishes were excellent - I perhaps wouldn't go here if I had a taste for the most authentic Sichuan dishes, but the traditional Chinese dishes they have on the menu were delicious, filling, and a great change of pace from the standard American Chinese takeout fare. The braised pork belly was especially crave-able, served with a good portion of hearty broth. The spring rolls were good (2 per order), but I did find myself wanting the larger, heartier egg rolls that most American-style Chinese places serve but which do not appear on New Mandarin Gate's menu. That said, the included duck sauce and mustard were tastier than your usual takeout place provides.

Scott L.

Yelp
Worst Chinese food I've ever had. Don't waste your time or money. If you need a meal after a movie at Oak Tree, go to Burgermaster or anywhere else.

Ondine W.

Yelp
I see a lot of one star ratings here and wish I had looked here before ordering. I ordered through GrubHub. The food was atrocious, tasteless, poor quality, unappetizing. The worst Asian food I've had! I threw most of it out. GrubHub was not willing to give me any kind of refund and the restaurant owner was argumentative and insulting to me when I called to express my concerns and was uninterested in my displeasure, had a lot of excuses and tried to make me feel like I was in the wrong. So let the buyer beware. GrubHub does not guarantee that the food will be decent. If I had been present at the restaurant ordering, I would have sent the food back. But now I have no options. Very poor customer service from both the delivery service and the restaurant.

Kniki S.

Yelp
I should have known better to try ordering here again. Food was bland and had a somewhat burnt taste attached from cooking something previously on the grill. LAST: my pet peeve: We spend $32.+ a $4.00 tip. My polite request to them was to please enclose 2 forks n napkins. Did they do it / NO ! [Needed plastic due to oral surgery] When I called why not- - her silly reply was "You got a free litter of coke"... What ? I will never order from here again.

Meowphius R.

Yelp
I really like this place, despite hearing bad things. It's tasty American style Chinese food delivery, but not too greasy that I regret eating it! I give 4 instead of 5 stars because they didn't remember my marginally important special requests. I'm sorta glad the accident was made because I didn't care until half of it was gone, cause it was tasty! The fact is that: it's delivery! And my food is not just warm when it gets to me, it's good and hot when it's delivered. It's a hard thing to do, and I tip extra and keep coming back when it's done! I think Seattle-ites maybe want some vegan fancy thing, or super authentic chinatown-esque food. This place is more American-style, and it's a good thing when done well. It's not a healthy fancy place, as much as I love that sort of thing. However, I also love my beefy short ribs appetizer & the chefs duck special! It's the perfect balance of sweet (& suprisingly tender) meat and tangy juicy sauce.

Ryan G.

Yelp
Been here 3 times, disappointed every time. Unprofessional staff for 3 years. Place is dirty. They'll tell you 25 minutes gooooooddd luck I've waited an hour passed the 25 minute mark for my takeouts every time! Come extra late. Seen a dude leave to his house, eat at home bcuz he was so hungry and came back and his food still was not ready. - this was an hour passed his "ready in 25" mark. Happens every order. 3rd and last time, I tried not to leave a bad review on times before. This was it.

Monti P.

Yelp
Place is outdated and super unsanitary....Staff is disgusting in behavior especially the Asian girl working Friday 10/4/2019...argued with me over a pick up order. Fix your ugly attitude. So many other authentic Chinese restaurants in Seattle with less attitude.

Lyta S.

Yelp
I had been ordering from this restaurant for years, but I have noticed a steady decline in quality. Today we're talking about their food prep, and how they treat customers. (Story Time) My most recent (and final) interaction with them was after ordering delivery, and discovering insect remains in our sweet and sour sauce. We didn't discover this until applying the sauce to the chicken (served separately). We don't know what bug bits made it onto the meal, only that there were plenty left in the sauce container. Mandarin Gate did attempt to get us replacement chicken, but neglected to give us replacement sauce. When alerted to the absent sauce, they threw a fit, shouting at me over the phone about how can a bug find its way into the food. The woman began accusing me of lying about a bug. In the end, we agreed to send the remains back, but then the driver (cook?) argued with us further, claiming there was no bug in the food- even when the bug was pointed out to him directly. When I phoned the woman back and requested a refund for how I've been treated in this whole exchange, she denied me, and claimed I was stirring up trouble. It was at this time that the driver (cook?) returned, and she admitted that yes, that was an insect in the sauce- but it wasn't that BIG of an insect, so, no refund. Amid all this, there were subtle suggestions to making the driver pay for the meal. Why? He's a driver, not the cook. Unless he was also the cook. But still. That is a garbage policy, and just keep a cleaner kitchen. The staff has always been borderline terse over the phone, but they have never gone this far. Bug in the food, accused me of causing trouble, somehow blaming ME for the bug in the food, lying about the presence of a bug when there is physical evidence in, then oops, it was a bug after all. I've never been so mistreated for just wanting food that wasn't tainted with fly remains. I will be seeking my money through my bank, and filing a complaint. As I mentioned, I had been eating here for years- they've lost a customer that's been giving them money for OVER 10 years. I was smart enough to snap visual evidence of the bug. Just in case. You can order from them if you want, but if they screw up the meal, sounds like you'll get blamed for it, and the driver will be the one to take the punishment. I'd really rather give a better restaurant my money. imgur.com/a/ElBxB

Yelp
The bar is fun. No pretense, not too loud (except when they are doing kareoke maybe, which I did not see) and down-to-earth local people. It's the type of place with regulars, where people stay for several hours or you can pop in to get warm, have a snack and some conversation. Jessica is a great bartender. The food I had was kind of lowest common denominator Chinese. It was a "chinese broccoli" dish which was served with plain broccoli, which was not in the freshest state. The dish was very sweet and not spicy although I ordered it to be spicy. The bar has a snack menu and lots of people were having little plates of fried prawns and such. Their core revenue comes from the bar, I'm sure.

J. S.

Yelp
If you like food poisoning, then this is the place for you. It saddens me to have to give this place such a horrible review, but every single time I order from here I get violently ill. I've tried so many times to have a good experience. I want to like this place badly, but it's always a disaster. The chicken wing appetizer is amazing, but when it comes to anything else, that's when trouble starts. The first few times I ate here the fried rice was perfect. Reminded me of east coast chinese food. That quickly changed. Now it's just a diarrhea and vomit fest. The delivery drivers are pretty agro too. Avoid this place. Not worth the health risk.

Isa H.

Yelp
Great food and service. We liked everything we ordered. Good amount of vegetarian items too.

Jacqueline G.

Yelp
I came here to do karaoke and had a rude bartender Brittani who was so so rude !!! I think she needs to be retrained to do customer service . She was very sarcastic and rude when I was trying to order a drink . Then proceeded to talk about me to other patrons ?? Is this appropriate and the way she was trained? I believe she needs retraining desperately . The food is awesome but stay away from the bar when Brittani is there. She will overcharge you or bring the wrong drink and then sarcastically be rude about it , and then talk about you to people at the bar .

Rebecca G.

Yelp
This was one of the only Chinese places open for delivery recently, and after reading reviews wasn't expecting any thing amazing, and I was presently surprised! The vegetables in the dishes are delicious. I only wish their hot and sour soup was vegetarian. Would definitely eat here again!

L D H.

Yelp
I have only gotten this food delivered via Eat24. The food was really tasty and reasonably priced. Large portions too! My son loved the pot stickers and Ma Po Tofu. The pot stickers are super filled with meat and the dough is soft and tasty. The ma Po tofu was good, medium spicy with lots of vegetables strips of pork. We also got salt & pepper fish, it was very good and came with a lot of pieces. The BBQ Pork fried rice was good basic fried rice, my favorite. We will definitely order from here again.

Yelp
I was looking for a place to eat and remembered about this place. As I approached it I saw many cars in the lot (which typically is a good sign) so why not... but quickly realize that the the cars belonged to the people in the lounge. Upon entering, the lady behind the counter yells out "can I help you?" and I can only see the top of her head because she's still sitting down playing on her phone. I ask her if they are serving dinner since there is not one soul in the dining room, only people in the bar. This is around 7pm on a Tuesday night. Beware, the bar is pretty loud from the dining room. She seats me, gives me a menu, and whole time I'm thinking this is not a good idea..I should just boogy out of here and see you never! But I decide to order anyway. I order chicken wings, bbq pork fried rice, and walnut prawns. Chicken wings- kinda large... but cooked well. No seasoning Fried Rice- not bad-not good, just average Walnut Prawns- now I've had these about 1000 times and I understand that flavor may vary a bit depending on restaurant... but not that much. But I noticed a faint peculiar taste in these and every bite I took I prayed that they weren't spoiled. You know, it only makes sense that a place as slow as this could have trouble turning their perishable seafood. I was really concerned. But I'll have you know that I have determined that it must have been the sauce that I was tasting since I wasn't visited by the food poisoning demon. All was good. When I was trying to determine how many stars to give I hovered around 2-3 but the clincher for me was that I actually had to get up and ask for a box and my bill so I could leave. I inconveniently interrupted her game she was playing on her phone. No thanks... again, see you never.

Yelp
Good luch specials. Cheap with a good amount of food. The dinner not so good. For lunch we got two lunch specials and the bill came out to be about 12 bucks with tip. It comes with soup, rice, an entree and a side dish. I come here for lunch a lot. I only gave it 3 stars because I don't suggest it for dinner.

Yelp
Great lunch specials. Food and prices are very good. Poor ambiance. Older lady in front is always grumpy. Annoyingly don't honor coupons that are currently in the Entertainment book.

Yelp
I have not made decisions with rate. Dinner seem kind of leftover meal that I have noticed it is serving too shorter after we ordered. Sweet and sour park taste ok. .. egg scramble aren't corrected cooked.

Yelp
We started eating here in 1997 when we lived in the neighborhood. We ate dinner there ate least once a week. In 9 years we never had a complaint about the food or the service. Ken (I don't think that was his real name) at the front desk was always friendly. I miss him! Anyway...we moved to Shoreline about 10 years ago, but we ordered food every now and again, but never have we been more disappointed then tonight! We had friends over for dinner and it was nice to be able to check out the menu online and each order what we like. That is the only part of this experience that was nice. When I arrived to pick the order up, one minute before the online app said it would be ready, I walked into a ghost town-tumbleweeds and all. The lobby was empty and dirty. I stood there waiting and staring at the order to go sitting behind the desk. It was close to ten minutes before a waiter came around the corner and asked if I had an order to pick up, he was very friendly. I handed him a $100.00 bill because the total of our food was $79. and change. He told me he would be right back and I thought " wow, things must be slow if he doesn't have $20 in the register" to give me my change. I waited there and finally decided I would carry the food out to the car and come back in for my change. I did so and when I got back to the front desk....I waited. Finally, he returns with a woman following him-she had the $100 in her hand now! She sits down in a chair and proceeds to get my change. I tipped the waiter $7 bucks and he thanked me. The woman said nothing. Odd? When we got home and everybody started eating I understood why she didn't tell me to enjoy our order! Apparently she has tasted the food and knows that enjoying it would be next to impossible! Instead of the traditional take out cartons our entrees came in plastic bowls with clear lids, I guess so we could see the condensation forming and dripping onto our food-guaranteeing that anything supposed to be crispy was no longer crispy! That took care of the fantail shrimp and the Tso's chicken. The meat in all the dishes was very bland and dry. That covered the beef with broccoli, the spareribs and the char siu. Oh and the satay beef! The chefs special pan fried noodles and chefs special fried rice all contained the meat that not one of the four of us liked. They might want to consider renaming those dishes. Nothing special there! One of us enjoyed his wonton soup but we only ordered a cup and since it was his birthday, we let him enjoy it, instead of splitting it four ways. When our friends left, I gave the restaurant a call and kindly explained to the woman on the phone how unhappy we were with our dinner. I received complete silence as a response to my complaint. Way to go "New" Mandarin Gate! Now I know it is not only your food that sucks! Never will we return!
