A beautiful restaurant, but one that never quite made it to great in my opinion. The savory beignets I had were so over salted i could taste nothing else, and I didn't want to finish them because they were 1 note- salt, which was a shame because the promise of shrimp and crab fondue on fresh made beignets sounds incredible. Unless you are a deer looking for a salt lick, I would avoid these. My friend had the quiche which she liked but the fruit tray had some sour grapes and the cantaloupe had no flavor. I also want to point out the wording on the "savory beignets- Served with Mango Mango Preserves and powdered sugar or savory beignets filled with shrimp and crawfish fondue." Having read it a few times I think ok, OR means I don't get both, but because both sauces were listed under Savory, and the sweet sauce is only listed under the sweet, I had thought I would get plain beignets and get to choose my sauce for dipping. It was not the case, they list sweet sauces under savory title for absolutely no reason. And they were salt licks anyway. Avoid them. While our server was visible at all times, she addressed only 1 more time during the meal, and I very much needed a water refill. A table to our right got up and left because no one approached them in about 5 minutes despite it being fairly empty at 10 'clock. I know Mango is only open until January, but if you're open at all , put in the full effort.

My little family and I were visiting the area from California. This is the first place my husband wanted to try while searching for restaurants around Hampton. He was born and raised in Louisiana, so the menu grabbed his attention. We decided on the day we were flying back to California, which was a Monday to come check it out. We parked in the back parking lot and entered through the backdoor. We were greeted by two lovely young women. We were instantly seated. Our waitress was Ty, and she was amazing from start to finish! Shout out to Ty! She explained the menu to us as first-timers and didn't leave anything out. Which we appreciated. As we waited for our food and sipped our drinks we noticed the ambiance was very nice! For those of you who like the esthetics, this place is it for a nice photo-op. When our food was brought out, it was plated nicely! I love good picture-ready plating. The best part was the food was as delicious as it looked! Even though my son and I opted for a simple meal as we were flying out, my husband helped himself to a nice portion. My son and I ordered the classic French toast, him with a side of bacon and me a side of potatoes. My husband had fried catfish with grits, eggs, and toast. With all three of us having a mango lemonade. The food did not disappoint! Delicious! Our experience at Mango Mangeaux far exceeded our expectations. What made it special for us was the hospitality shown to us by Ty! I asked jokingly to send us off to California right, and she did that! I also, want to thank the cooks and the whole kitchen staff for a simple yet memorable meal! Thank you! I pray I get the chance to dine with y'all again in the future!

Had these reservations for over a month for a party of ten. I did not feel they were prepared for a welcome or accommodation. Downstairs, all tables are square or rectangular shape. I saw parties of 6 or more sat comfortably. Our seating was upstairs. Enjoyed the quiet setting but not the unwelcoming tone from our server. Assuming she dreaded having to walk flights of stairs to bring us our food. Four round tables pushed together…not sure how anyone can eat like that. Guests had to use menus to eat on. Definitely a “been there and done that” spot. For what I got, there are some mom and pops diner that serve the same thing for a lesser price. If you say we paid for the experience…you can have that. The mango purée (jam) is what saved that one star.

Quaint little restaurant in Old Towne Hampton. Set in the beautiful vintage area. Beautiful. There was a large parking lot behind the building. We did not have a reservation however we were sat right away. The server was very pleasant, she made sure to explain a couple of things since we had not been here before. Looking over the menu he got the two up and two down. I had to make a decision to see between three items. I prefer the Benedicts and love me some fried chicken so in the end the fried chicken Benedict. It came with the fruit platter with the famous mango dip. He did try the mango lemonade, very sweet. We were seated in the hallway, there was lots of traffic, but only delayed service slightly. However I would have liked a refill on the coffee, they were quick to remove the empties and plates due to the small area. All in all they were very pleasant and the food was great.

My husband and I decided to try this place and we sat at the bar. Avery is very personable and great at her job :) ♡ When we came in it was time for their lunch menu. We got the mango lemonade, it was refreshing and not too sweet. My husband got the Po Boy and I went for the turkey bistro, both good and fulfilling. We then decided to try the beignets and they were so cute and the mango filling with it was good 🙂‍↕️ I know it can be a bit on the pricier side as some reviews say, but we already knew that before we came in, and had already heard good things so wanted to give it a try. The atmosphere was welcoming and clean which I appreciated as well. Again, Avery was very nice to talk to and I wanted to for sure shout her out in this review! 🩷

Google
5 stars in all areas of his experience should tell you all you need!! From the moment my best friend and I entered we received a warm welcome, seated quickly and our waitress was beyond fantastic - from personality, to knowledge - and this is just to start. The time between our order and when the food came, was minimal. Everything we ordered was fantastic!!! The flavors were spot on, the presentation was one where, you tasted it on first sight and then the bite....ohhhhhh wow.... everything was delicious. Just writing this my mouth is watering 😂. Definitely check this place out!!!

Google
I was excited to visit this place. Honestly, I should’ve chosen other restaurant around the corner. The hostess doesn’t know what the word “hospitality” means. You’re the first impression, you’re the first person the guests meet in the restaurant. He walked sloooowly, looked at us from the top to toes, it looked ridiculous. It was so obvious! I felt like I owe him something but didn’t know what:) That’s not a class, it’s a joke. Anyways. The waiter was trying to be professional, I appreciate that. But little advice from the person who worked at the Food and Beverage, Hospitality field most of her life - when the guest is ready to pay, you should give them the bill to see, not just tell them the amount. Mistakes happen, and as a guest I have the right to see my bill. But it’s just an advice. I don’t feel like coming back. I left this place confused why the attitude was so weird. The food is okay. One dish was a little overspiced

Excellent place for brunch and lunch. I had the fried salmon sandwich with their house sauce and it was delicious. The bun was buttered and perfectly toasted. Can't wait to try other items on the menu.

Yelp
I'd been eyeing Mango Mangeaux for a while and finally had the chance to check it out. We arrived around noon on a Saturday and were seated pretty quickly, which was a nice start. It took about 10 minutes or so before our waitress came over to get our drink order, so service felt a bit slow right out of the gate. We ordered the Gouda grilled cheese and the buffalo chicken sandwich; both were really good, no complaints on the food at all. While I'm glad I finally gave it a try, the overall experience didn't quite wow me, mostly due to the service. The food was tasty, but I don't see myself going back anytime soon.

Yelp
When I first walked in, I came from the back and it was a little offputting because I didn't know. I'll be in the back of the restaurant. As far as how narrow the space was, they didn't really have any clear " go to the front sign" so I wasn't sure if I should've gone to the bar. Again, this is really just based on how the layout is. The server came and asked me if I had a reservation and I told him yes someone who came in about five minutes before me and put one in he was kind of arguing with me that they don't do same-day reservations and I was telling him she literally just came in and put it in. anyways, once in the front checked, it's in there. He's like your table will be about five minutes. OK, no problem. I found my party. We end up walking around the area. Once we came back to the restaurant, we were seated now based solely on the Food-to-price ratio. It is on the pricier side for the amount of food you are getting. I did see some people had fried chicken entrée which looked very filling however, I got the Chesapeake Benedict as my main course and I added a side of andouille sausage and that was eight extra dollars. ..... again what I got compared to the cost doesn't balance out that much for me. The food was good however, someone else on my table got fried fish with grits. And the grits look super plain for a restaurant that is Creole-inspired.

Yelp
Upon arrival, we were almost immediately seated. It did take, however, a while for someone to come take our drink orders as there way maybe one or two waitresses for the whole restaurant. They were pretty busy, as there were constantly more people coming in and some had to wait for a table until others left. The restaurant isn't that big inside, but it is nice with plenty of decor. The bananas foster French toast was pretty good. I have no complaints. The chicken on the other plate was covered in powdered sugar -- i felt like more should've been on the French toast instead of the chicken. I will probably be back.

Yelp
Need more stars there's not enough!! This place right here has been on my list since they were on Shark Tank and that was a long time ago! Guess what it was definitely worth the wait! Never been a mango fan. Who's a mango fan now! Didn't think I like mangoes do! Reservations are definitely recommended. We were there for a Sunday brunch. The only thing I have to say me personally I prefer to sit downstairs as opposed to upstairs I made reservation without knowledge of the place and we sat upstairs. The hostess that greeted us was super nice. She's a day one employee. I asked her many questions and she was very helpful. You can tell she thoroughly enjoys her job. She suggested that I the mango margarita and it was delicious. So I started off with a mango margarita, which was definitely a winner in my book. I ordered a croissant basket and a course the beignets I wanted to get a little sampling of a few things. The croissants come with some of their mango butter and their mango preserves, and mango fruit dip. ( remember I'm not a mango person.) but these were so good. Their mango butter was delicious. Moving onto the main dish, I had to get the bananas Foster French toast. The only thing I wish that I had more of the bananas foster sauce, so in the future when I come and order, I will ask for extra because it was so good. I could've licked the plate . I also ordered a side of bacon and potatoes. Both were cooked to perfection. I seen on my social media page where they had a French toast flight so I went in with this thought that I was gonna order this so that I could try all of their different different variations of French toast, but when I heard they do not have a French toast I have to say I was a little disappointed. Maybe in the future this might be something they offer. Seeing that restaurants offer flights of coffee flights mimosa flights, bloody Mary flights, Let's get a French toast flight started sign me up.. Brunch was so good. I would definitely give it a 10 out of 10 I will definitely be back and yes, I did end up buying a jar of mango preserves because I cannot wait to make some mango butter. I have to admit I did feel sorry for our waitress having to run up and down the stairs. It was a little warm in there once the sun started coming out. I definitely recommend they do offer brunch breakfast luncheon dinner go ahead and give their website is look. They were featured on Shark Tank. You'll have to do your research. I'm not gonna spill the beans. Can't wait to return.

Yelp
Restaurant is closing so the quality is terrible would not recommend !! Bar is limited due to closing, staff is limited as well. Don't waste your money

Yelp
Loved it! Popped in on a Wednesday to check it out before Hampton HC festivities kicked off. It was just before noon and not crowded, but the lunch crowd began making its way in over the next hour. Service was friendly, attentive and prompt. I was immediately seated. I had mango mimosa, mango French Toast and the turkey sausage and loved everything! The flavor and seasoning of the French Toast allowed me to enjoy each bite. The turkey sausage was homemade patted and had a good balance of seasoning; not spicy nor salty. And the decor is beautifully done and very delightful to see upon entering. This is a must try if you are in the area! I'm glad yelp sent me!

Yelp
Perfect brunch date and how cool that they were on Shark Tank. Went here twice-- first time with the bestie, second time on a couples date. Such a fun time for everyone! I cannot get over their mango preserve! Loved it with the fruits. Everything we ordered was delicious. We got the chesapeake benedict (yum!), chicken fried benedict, shrimp & grits, sledge skillet (amazing presentation), croissant basket, and a flight of virgin mimosas. It can get busy on the weekends so be sure to go early. Around noon on Saturday, it was about a 40 minute wait. The next Saturday, we were there at 10 am and were seated instantly. Definitely coming back and bringing more friends.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting it. We went for a restaurant week and I was very pleasantly surprised! The food was excellent. We had the set menu that came for lunch for restaurant week. It was a lovely salad, shrimp and grits and a beignet for dessert. We also ordered the mango mimosa which was delicious.. The service was wonderful. Our server was very attentive, even though it was very busy. The ambience was really fun with lots of bright orange all over the place in this old beautiful house down in Phoebus. I will definitely go again.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this place for years, but I've been putting it off. I finally went and I was surprised with the prices of the food compared to the quality. The prices are expensive but the food does not have exceptional favor and it's a very limited menu--except the beignets. The beignets were a delight--not Cafe Du Monde's, but the best beignets I've had in VA. The crab Benedict was very underwhelming--expensive with very little crab. The chicken fried chicken was decent, expensive for it not to come with a side. I would return to try dinner.

Yelp
The food and service are top tier at Mango Mangeaux! The menu at Mango Mangeaux boasts the savory flavors of their French, Creole and Neo-Soul cuisine! Mango Mangeaux is the go-teaux(to) for brunch here in Hampton Roads! Ladies love the mimosas and the mimosa flight will be a hit when you geaux(go).

Good food, excellent service & hospitality and beautiful story of how it all can to exist. PLEASE, make reservations and know you will Enjoy the savory flavors and southern cuisine.

Yelp
Food, delicious. Customer service, impeccable. Story told to me by the manager about the business how they've grown and how good god is , priceless.

Yelp
This is a little Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch spot in Phoebus whose owners were on Shark Tank. I mention this because it is posted in the menu, in the restaurant, and on the menus. They have multi levels and a very creative menu. It is very carb heavy so if you are looking less carbs it may not be your option. The wait staff is very friendly and are very proud and committed to the restaurant. The food was good and creative with a NeoSoul style with Mango. The French toast was tasty and Mimosa good. Shrimp and grits were made in a unique way and were good, flavorful, and had a good portions. Other plates could have had better portion sizes especially for the cost. However, the food was well done and good. Cost could have been a little better for portions. Well worth a visit as it is a passion project and unique locale for this very small town.

Yelp
04/2024 This place never misses on the food, honestly the consistency of the food for brunch is just amazing. Kudos! I had the shrimp n grits which I've had since my 1st visit and it was delicious as per usual. Even the cup of gumbo was still tasty. Ended the meal with the must have beignets. My friends had the chicken with French toast and they both loved it. I just wish they would expand and get a bigger location, the only thing that keeps me from this place is the wait times because of the small seating space.

Yelp
Came to VA for a wedding and wanted a niice AM snack. Mangos was such a clean little restaurant with a beautiful ambiance and staff. The mussels were PEI mussels in this amazing Cajun creole broth that was absolutely decadent. The broth was an amazing new taste for mussels. I will definitely be back whenever im.back in Virginia. The most palette seducing item was the peach beignet for dessert.

Yelp
I must say, the only reason I hadn't been there for a while was due to poor service the first two times I tried it and they clearly have made some changes and improvements. I waited a little longer than they said but that's ok. Once seated the service was cordial and fast. I ordered the PoBoy lunch special that came with gumbo and fries. I also order the egg rolls. To keep it simple they were both great. I got the catfish poboy which was perfectly seasoned, crispy and came straight from the kitchen because the was hot, which is important to me. The fries weren't great but were passable, I won't judge them on the fries. The egg rolls were cooked well and tasted great. I hope you enjoy your next visit there as much as I did.

Yelp
Great food, good service, but noisy. Love the decor and the boots are very comfortable. Been there many times with my husband and many times with friends. Always a good experience. Shecrab soup is delicious.

Yelp
Have you ever had NeoSoul rolls? Me neither, until today! They're bomb! In short, it's your soul food favs ( greens, rice, black eye peas, Mac & cheese, etc.) wrapped and fried into an egg roll. Doesn't sound good, does it? Well I'm here to report, don't knock it until you've tried it. I really enjoyed those NeoSoul rolls especially pairing the with their mango lemonade. My daughter ordered their chicken sandwich and she gave it a 10/10! All of their food was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The service was good and the ambiance was clean and cute. I couldn't give 5 stars because my NeoSoul rolls took awhile to come out. My daughter was almost finished with her meal by the time I got mine... but the rolls were worth the wait!

Yelp
Really enjoyed the atmosphere here. Multiple people greeted us asking if we had been helped when we first came in. We sat at the bar where the bar tender was very friendly and laid back. I enjoyed a couple of "humidi-tea" cocktails which were delicious and the Chesapeake Benedict was an interesting but tasty meal.

Yelp
Stopped here on our way back to northern Virginia Sunday to try their brunch! So the surrounding area looked a bit sketchy but don't let that keep you away! The restaurant was vibrant both outside and inside. It was clean and welcoming with colors matching its name! Their menu looked awesome and I wish I could have tried more items! Our server was attentive and polite. The only thing I would approve on would be the sweet tea and coffee, both tasted watered down: But not a big deal at all. We ordered the fried chicken and French toast and the fried fish with grits! We cleaned our plates...it was that good! Full of flavor and fried perfectly. Mine came with some of their signature mango preserves which was absolutely divine. I had to order me a full jar to take home! We will definitely be bringing our kids with us next time!
google avatar

Yelp
We've been here before for brunch with friends, only once last year on a Sunday. Even though we had to wait 1 hour, it was totally worth it. I had their famous chicken and French toasts, they were amazing! The mimosa flight wasn't for me. They were huge and way too sweet. I ended up giving one mimosa to my husband and the other to my friend. Long story short, food was amazing and I couldn't wait to go back! Last Saturday, we met with a friend for brunch. She had to wait 30 minutes and in the meantime ordered a mimosa that didn't come until I got there and got mine. To make matters worse, it was warm. Such a let down! I hate sending food or drinks back but I definitely should have. I ordered the Fried green tomato and crab eggs Benedict. They were absolutely delicious! My husband and our friend ordered the shrimp and grits. I only tried the grits and they were really good. I don't mind paying but at least, give me everything that my $24 plate is supposed to have! I later realized that they didn't bring me the sides. So my friend didn't get to try their famous mango preserves or have the same experience that we did the first time. It's a bummer because we are all chefs. Consistency is extremely important!Especially if you're going to charge $24 for eggs Benedict, no sides. And warm mango mimosas. I love their food and their concept but it's far for us. Not knowing which experience you're going to get, sucks! Especially after a 40 minute drive and traffic.

Yelp
We have always wanted to try this place, especially with our love for mangos! The service was wonderful, the staff were kind and attentive. The ambience is super cool, I love the style of a restaurant or cafe inside a old house. The orange color creates a very cute aesthetic. We tried the brunch menu. My Chesapeake Eggs Benedict was pretty good with the crab. Apparently there is mango in this dish, but I couldn't taste the mango. I like the choice of biscuits instead of English muffin. My husbands fried fish was tasty and seasoned well. The mango iced tea was delicious!! The mango jelly was super good on toast, but to buy a bottle for home was a little pricey. I'd love to come back and try their lunch and/or dinner menu. A nice place to get some good Southern food. Thank you!

Yelp
This place was perfect in EVERY aspect!! We were a group of eight visiting in town for a race. This restaurant was recommended by a former resident and did not disappoint! Beginning when we walked in the door, the Service, the Ambiance & Food was nothing less than Perfection! We were accommodated even though we were a large party, our server was cordial and patient! Although everything was excellent...The skillet potatoes stood out and were THEE BEST I have ever tasted! All of the food was seasoned to perfection and the croissants were fresh and flaky! I had the Mango Peach Sangria and it was heavenly! I will definitely return and also recommend this restaurant as a must visit destination whenever in the Hampton, VA area.

Yelp
10/26/2022 ** hot as fish grease that I did not check in appropriately on Yelp ** I've been wanting to visit this place for years. My goddaughter was attending Hampton University nearby and raved about this place. Now my son attends, and I am committed to regular visits here !! Lol Our party of 4 arrived bright and early on a Sunday morning, and of course, they were packed. There was a 45-minute wait. No way! I located a wall bar shelf all the way in the back, and we were able to sit there immediately. We were greeted by Anastasia. She was kind, proficient, and energetic. Collectively, we ordered the following. The Biggie (Rib-Eye) Sides "Put it on the Side" Skillet Potatoes and Bacon Vegan Gumbo Rich Girl Mimosa (Spirit Free) - Passion Fruit and Blackberry Juice Toast French Toast 2 Scrambled Eggs w Cheese Our party of 4 enjoyed each and everything so much. Everything came out quickly, well plated and hot. Everything was well seasoned and plentiful. This place is a neighborhood gem, and I see exactly why it was loved so much by goddaughter and friends. I look forward to returning for dinner my next visit

Yelp
This was absolutely delightful! I found a new place to be fed and to decompress. The French toast was flavorful and filling. The chicken was cooked to perfection, leaving it juicy and asking me to eat it. The waitstaff was kind and sweet. I love the laid back vibe of the establishment, it feels upscale and classy.

Yelp
Like others have mentioned, I stumbled across this gem when visiting my daughter at college. Now it's a requirement to visit every time I'm in town. We have tried both their brunch offerings, as well as dinner selections. You can't go wrong either way. The winners for us were definitely: Salmon Burger: A must try! Usually when people fry salmon, it takes away the essence of the fish. But not here, the burger is prepared perfectly. Neo Soul Eggroll: Stuffed with black eyed peas, collard greens, and cheese. Another must try! Magnolia Shrimp & Grits: Seared shrimp with bits of ham in yummy Gouda grits. Grits are super creamy and delicious. RICH GIRL PO BOY MIMOSA: A big hit and plenty to go around. Service was good and attentive. The ambiance is super cute with orange and white decor. I highly recommend to make a reservation. This place is super popular...and for good reason!

Yelp
Mango for brunch the server was not pleasant or attentive we had to ask several times for things, no friendly smile or good attitude it was like she just didn't want to be there. Ray But the food was really good .

Yelp
My husband, daughter and I visited this spot on a Friday night while visiting our daughter at college. We entered from the main street side, but there is ton of parking in back of the restaurant with outdoor seating. It's a 2 story restaurant but the bottom floor has limited tables so I assume the upstairs has the majority of space but I cannot confirm. It's reminded me a the spots I seen in the French Quarter of New Orleans. It was kind of busy but we were greeted and seated within about 10 minutes. I ordered the Mango Hennessy Lemonade, my husband had regular sweet tea(really good)and my daughter had the Dorothy Dandridge aka Shirley Temple. The server accidentally brought me a regular mango lemonade that was phenomenal (sweet) but good, so with the Hennessy addition it became dangerous drink because the lemonade and mango really masked the strength of the Hennessy and it snuck on me quick. The menu is pretty extensive with the addition of brunch options. We ordered the Neo-Soul Eggs rolls and they did not disappoint, definitely order them. I opted for the crab cake dinner with greens beans and mashed potatoes. The crab cakes were delicious with mostly succulent crab which is what one would expect but not the norm at other restaurants. The green beans were really good and seasoned well. The mashed potatoes were kind of bland surprisingly but I ate them with crab cake to add flavor. My daughter ordered the lobster Mac Cheese which was a good sized lobster tail on top of a huge portion of Mac n Cheese. It looked and tasted great! Finally my husband had the chicken fried chicken with collard greens, Mac n Cheese and cornbread...it was amazing... I barely was able to taste it because he was enjoying it so much. All the portions were generous and both my daughter and I took a good portion home. We did not try the beignets because we were so full, but will definitely be returning to try the brunch selections and beignets. Our total bill was around $120 which was good with me because I don't mind paying for good food and service. If you are in the Hampton area, it's worth a visit.

I'm if this you first time make sure you order what you want no exchange or refund on food. We sat for 30 minutes before anyone came to the table. It was only one waitress and the manager did not help her. Over all the food was good but services need improvement.

Yelp
Review We've been to Mango Mangeaux several times, have even bought a gift certificate for family and recommended many times, but today they lost a customer. We will NEVER GO BACK...! My wife ordered the quiche, when it arrived it moved like gelatin and was black on the outside, i immediately said it didn't look right. I've made and eaten quiche before, never seen one like this... but my wife gave it a shot.... Nope! All good, right. Just let the waitress know, get another one cooked right, right!? Nope! We were told "the quiche is cooked to our standard... and you can't get anything else and have to pay for it..." she's joking right, this burnt, runny egg thing you gave me is "the standard???" Ask for the manager, yep, she re-iterates "this is their standard" and we have to pay for it, and anything else you'd like to order as replacement is on you... Wow! What a way to start my wife's birthday... SMH. But hey, $15 bucks is a small price to pay for a burnt bridge...

Yelp
We went for Sunday Brunch and really enjoyed every aspect of our experience. Drinks were amazing, food was DELICIOUS and our server Jules was GREAT!

Yelp
I stopped in here because I was intrigued with the New Orleans vibe. I love me some NOLA food! (Geaux, geaux, geaux!) The service was strange. There were at least 3 open tables when I arrived, but there was a line at the door. I thought maybe they were short staffed because the hostess wasn't seating anyone. Then the hostess disappeared. Servers started seating people, but not in any order. I got skipped and was like, "What's going on?" Anyway, the kitchen staff seemed to be on point because the food came out fairly fast, hot, and was nicely plated. Everyone at my table ordered the po boy platter, which is half a po boy sandwich, fries, and a cup of gumbo. The fries are skinny like McDonald's fries and have some lightly seasoned salt on them. The gumbo does taste like it's from NOLA. The rice on top is way overcooked for my taste. The bread on a po boy is very important. They got that right. It was a good sandwich, but not my favorite NOLA vibe. Everyone was really nice and polite, but didn't seem to know what was going on. The server didn't bring out spoons with the gumbo. When I asked for spoons, they only brought one. A great experience for me is: * lovely ambiance * attentive, but unobtrusive service * tasty, hot food- bonus if it looks good too * a warm, "hit the spot" feeling * the price feels like a good value I wanted to feel great leaving here. The service didn't match the price or ambiance.

Yelp
DO NOT COME TO THIS RESTAURANT. I do not write reviews often--but this experience was so unbelievably horrible, I felt compelled to say something. I hate that it has come to this, but at this point, it MUST be done. Mango Manguex was a complete disaster from start to finish. I visited on Sunday, April 6th and was immediately met with poor treatment. I was sat in the corner of the restaurant and politely asked to be moved--either outside, upstairs, or even at the bar. All of these areas were EMPTY. The owner flat-out refused to accommodate me with zero explanation. It felt personal and unsettling. Who wants to sit tucked away in the corner at a brunch spot that markets itself as a "vibe"? I ordered TWO mimosa flights and only received one. The second never came. Not once during the entire brunch did they check in or attempt to fix it. Then came the worst part: My friend and I stepped away to the restroom for just 3 minutes--the building is only 900 square feet with one level--when we returned, our food had been thrown away. No warning. No question. No respect. When we expressed our frustration, the owner offered no apology, no accountability, no concern. Instead, she told us she wouldn't try to rectify the situation even if we chose to come back again. After pushing the issue, she finally agreed to remake the food--but deliberately placed our order at the back of the line. We then waited a ridiculous HOUR for the replacement meal. Yes, you read that right: They trashed our food after 3 minutes, and made us wait an hour for new plates--without so much as offering a fork or drink while we waited. The entire time, the energy from the owner was hostile, unwelcoming, and full of attitude. Not once did she show an ounce of hospitality or professionalism. Just ego and entitlement. This place has no sense of service, class, or customer care. I left feeling disrespected, disgusted, and deeply disappointed. Do yourself a favor and do NOT come to Mango Manguex. Your time, your money, and your energy deserve better.

Yelp
Tasty! Was in the area with my family and this was a perfect brunch place. There was a bit of a wait for a party of five, but we didn't mind. Everyone was super friendly and attentive. The music was great and I love the theme of the restaurant. Super cute! Started off with a mango mimosa and it was delicious. The menu had tons of alcoholic and non alcoholic options. For my meal I got the shrimp and grits along with majority of the table, great choice! It was tasty and super filling. They have huge portions. I'd come back again whenever I visit my family! There is a ton of parking in the back and some street parking.

Yelp
I stopped in specifically to purchase 2 jars of Mango sauce, their flagship item. Interesting they have 6 dozen jars on the wall, but they are all "for display only". They only had 1 bottle in stock. Sadly I was in from out of town and do not know when I will be able to return to purchase another bottle. We were there mid-day on a Saturday and seating was plentiful but we didn't have time. Maybe next time...

Yelp
I went to here during dinner time. Me and my friends did not have a reservation so we did have to wait a little bit before being seated. We felt that the restaurant was a little small and crowded as there was just a lot of people there but overall it didn't hinder us from having a decent experience from the table we were set at. The decor inside was very cute and cozy. Looking from left to right in the picture I'm adding with my review, my friend ordered the fried chicken which came with mac & cheese, corn bread, and collard greens. I ordered the low country linguine with a side of mac & cheese and my other friend ordered the salmon lafyette that came with mashed potatoes, and asparagus and they ordered a side of Mac & cheese. Overall, I enjoyed my meal (the low country linguine) but if I do go back, I definitely won't order it again. I feel like the flavors were just a little off and it wasn't the best but I did take it to go and finished it the next day. The mac & cheese was actually decent and I preferred it over my main dish of the linguine. My rating for experience : 7/10

Yelp
Food was GREAT! Service is lacking. I will not be back. My table was completely ignored. Until the bill was due, of course. Ridiculous.

Yelp
Finally tried Mango Mangeaux for lunch. PROS: 1. The veggie burger was one of the best veggie burgers I've ever tasted hands down. Chefs kiss!! 2. The side salad was delicious especially with that yummy vinaigrette. If they don't already, it should be bottled and sold to the public (especially if the vinaigrette is made in house). 3. Although I ended up having to throw away my gumbo (see CONS for why), it smelled divine. 4. I love the ambiance. Although I did not dine there (I did a to-go order), it appears an early lunch on a Tuesday afternoon is a good time to go. It wasn't really busy. But I can understand why this restaurant is busy on the weekends for brunch and more than likely for dinner as well. They may need to consider a bigger location. CONS: 1. I did not expect to spend as much as I did for lunch. The veggie burger comes with fries. At this time, I do not eat fries and was hoping to substitute for a side salad (same price). No substitutions allowed. I should have went without the side salad as an addition, but I wanted something to go along with my veggie burger. The fries came on the side and I ended up dumping them. Personal choice, I get it, but was just hoping for a simple substitution. 2. Gumbogate. When I was given my total, I asked for it to be repeated because maybe I heard it wrong. I did not. The price of the gumbo on the menu was different from what was in their system. Even after pointing it out, the difference wasn't made for my bill. HOWEVER, the manager was so accommodating and apologized. She gave me a bowl instead of a cup of the gumbo to make up for the mistake. So this issue was a con at first, until corrected. But the other part of the issue, I ordered the veggie gumbo. I did not realize the waitress did not hear me correctly and I was given the gumbo with meat in it. After all of that, I couldn't eat it anyway. It smelled fabulous but I would've been sick if I ate it. I was more mad at myself for not realizing I was given the wrong dish before I left the restaurant. Even when my order was read to me when I was given my food, all I heard was gumbo and automatically figured I was given the right dish. Oh well. You live and learn. If I would've ate there, the gumbo would not have been wasted b/c I would have noticed the mix up. 3. In trying to figure out why my bill was $10 more than it should have been, in addition to the tax (totally understandable and warranted), To-Go orders are charged a To-Go service charge (18%). That's pretty annoying. So, I'm giving the restaurant 4 stars since I can't give a 3.75. I will return to try another dish on the menu and to get that veggie burger again (I don't eat bread right now so I'm waiting until I can eat bread again to have the full burger experience... they add a spread to the bread and I wasn't able to enjoy it. Next time). Enjoy!

Yelp
The atmosphere was great however the food was subpar 2 of the items I was looking at they did not have settled on the chicken fried chicken sandwich it was your normal chicken sandwich, my friend ordered the fried green tomatoes and some kind of sausage balls they were ok nothing to write home about. I had a mango Mojito and she had a mango lemonade. Both drinks were OK. The waitress never came back to check on us at all. This is definitely not the hype I was expecting you

Yelp
This was recommended by the locals in the area but recommended for lunch. I saw this brunch menu and decided to wait for the next day to come. The service was great. Our waitress was knowledgeable and funny. It was a great experience already and my food hadn't even came yet. Very cute and decor inside and out. While we waited. I noticed they have a cute boutique hotel and nail salon on the block. I definitely plan to stay there when I come back. The food was nothing short of delicious! I loveddddddd the mango preserves and that says a lot cause I don't like mango but this gave me like a sweet potatoes and baked apples taste! Would I be back? Absolutely! And the mimosas were good! If I knew I could of swapped that orange juice out. I would of but 3 out of 4 wasn't bad! It didn't matter cause I wasn't driving .

Yelp
My partner and I went to this restaurant for brunch, on a Saturday around 11:30. We waited about 5 minutes before the hostess arrived (from outside). She asked if we had a reservation, we did not. She informed us we would have a 20-30 minute wait, even though there were multiple tables and seats at the bar available. She explained that there was a wait list of reservations. Well we didn't wait. We went to another restaurant close by. I immediately went online to make a reservation for a future visit. Note, their website doesn't mention or recommend reservations except for Sunday brunch. I clicked on the 'reservation' link, which states "we are not currently accepting online reservations " ‍

Yelp
The customer service is terrible and disappointing. The waitress failed to check on us and we had to ask her multiple times to bring our creamer and sugar for coffee. She never even asked if we wanted a refill, someone else had to step in. I have an egg allergy and wasn't able to swap my side free of charge for another side that costs the same price as the eggs... turn off. Lastly, when it was time to pay she put all of the food on one bill and only charged one card by just assuming and never asked if we wanted to split. My grandma's card ended up being charged when I was going to treat her to begin with. My mom even warned me how bad the service is prior to coming. I will never return to this place again.

Yelp
Celebrated my Love's bday, and his restaurant of choice was Mango Mangeaux. GREAT CHOICE! I am a gourmand and a pretty good cook.. Avery was an excellent server. She didn't rush us and asked when we received our app if we would like for her to have the chef start to prepare our dinner.. now that's respect. Love that. The fried oysters on point, the crab cakes delicious (we are from MD and love that there are no fillers) and the lamb chops cooked to perfection! You made his bday dinner memorable.. thank you again..tchin tchin @lynettedujour

Yelp
I came down to Hampton to visit my bestie for the weekend. We came to Mango Mangeaux for lunch on a Friday. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside. The restaurant is beautiful! The service is also a 10/10. I started off with the Mango Electric Lemonade. It was so good. A nice balance and not to sweet. 10/10. I also tried the Brown Sugar Baby. 8/10. I liked the lemonade better even though I prefer brown over white. For my entree I got the Chesapeake Benedict. I subbed the poached eggs for scrambled eggs with cheese. That's usually my go-do. It was very hearty and flavorful. It came with a side of fruit and Mango Mango fruit dip. It was delicious! 10/10. When I'm back in the area, I'll be back!

Yelp
OMG good!!! Ate and drank deliciousness!!!! If you ever visit the Hampton roads area, you should definitely stop in here! The food, the service and drinks were off the charts delightful! We are upstairs in a beautiful dining area, the overlook the street, with a vision of a tall martini glass in the window. Beautiful decor, upstairs and down, and outside in the front in the back of the restaurant. You can order drinks and sit outside and wait for your table to get ready and the hostess and Wait staff were so nice again definitely recommend anyone visiting the area to stop in here. Well worth the wait as well! They have parking in the back of the restaurant so you don't have to walk far to get your yummy on!
