We decided on MangoSeed when friends were in town and had time for brunch. We wanted to try a new spot and heard good things about MangoSeed. Plus, it's always great to have an opportunity to support a Black-owned business.
The four of us sat down to dine shortly after they opened. If you want to beat the crowd, I suggest doing the same. Around the table were orders of mimosas, which come in various flavors, salmon pastrami, jerk salmon shakshouka, jerk chicken and waffles, pancakes with turkey bacon, braised oxtail with parmesan grits, and macaroni and cheese.
The mimosa mixing could use some improvement, as the juice was thick in texture and a little too sweet. They're served in carafes to the ordering individuals when ordered as unlimited, and they did keep our refills coming regularly.
Everyone loved their meals. I tried a forkful of the jerk salmon and it was both seasoned and cooked perfectly. The oxtail and grits were delicious and filling. They definitely know what they're doing with grits, as they weren't undercooked and the consistency was nice. The unexpected star was the salmon pastrami. I don't usually care for smoked salmon, but this was something else! We were all very impressed by this appetizer.
On entry there were several signs about them being cash only, which we didn't know ahead of time. After searching the surrounding area for an ATM, we went back only to find that there was an ATM within the restaurant that they didn't mention.
These small things aside, we had a nice meal with friends and would return in the future.
