"Chronicle critic Jessi Cape visited ManinPasta on South Lamar this week, and found Italian food that was “clearly legit.” Owner Davide Careri is Sicilian, she found each item was crafted with a nonna’s care (and, on a lunch visit, Italian was the dominant language spoken). Cape started with drinks on the “tucked away” patio, and saluted the “solid” cocktail program. The first dish was the Dal Mare, sautéed mussels and clams in a “luscious” cherry tomato broth. However, her next dish, the classic Roman carbonara, earned high praise: However, at $18.50 for a regular portion size, she wondered if the dish was worth it. On the pizza size of things, Cape enjoyed the pizza, particularly the crust which “married thin outside crunch with chewy interior,” but found it a bit subdued compared to the spicier Fuoco dell’Etna with sausage and peppers. However, she was unable to verify the restaurant’s claimed status as Verace Pizza Napoletana (authentic Neapolitan pizza). Overall, Cape found the restaurant had “unexpected warmth and charm” and hopes a price adjustment will bring the restaurant more business." - Erin Russell

The food was good but not exceptional. It was on a par with most Italian places in town. I had the seafood pasta which I enjoyed. The owners are Sicilian; I would like to see more dishes from that region. The service was very good. We sat on the patio, which was very pleasant.

Home made pasta. Affordable compared with other places we have tried in Austin with similar quality. We look forward to coming back and trying the pizza. The atmosphere is nice with real Italian music always in the background (what I mean is music that an Italian would listen to; this is difficult to explain). We noticed that the carbonara lacked black pepper and they did not offer us freshly ground pepper; there was already-ground black pepper on the table and it was ok quality. This was no reason to leave with a bad impression. We lived in Rome for some time and this restaurant brings good memories. We are still in search for a place to eat Buccatini all'amatriciana. If you ever think about adding something to the menu, please consider it.

pappardelle di prosciutto and Austin bloom specialty cocktail were exceptional! Thank you for a delightful and delicious date night. Highly recommended Italian food.

I've been to Italy before & this restaurant has food that tastes like it's from Italy. My favorites are the butternut squash ravioli, the squid ink ravioli, & the spaghetti carbonara. They seat and serve quickly. Everyone that works there is super nice and accommodating. I wish they had a rewards program since I go there so often. Definitely the best Italian restaurant in Austin!

Fancy and over priced for the area. Rent must be high in the high rise condo building. I had a pizza. Center crust very under cooked. Drooped and let ingredients fall off even after adequate cooling. Taste was fine. Service was great. Sweet tea had a fruity taste to it. Not just plain sweet tea.

I’ve tried most of the Italian restaurants in Austin in search of authentic Italian food and ManinPasta is by far the best. Their pasta is handmade and fresh so you’ll never want to go back to the alternative. On top of that, they serve decadent sauces with tasty ingredients and fine meats. We had the classic carbonara with pancetta that melted in your mouth. We also tried another pasta with marinara, sausage, and mushroom, and it was excellent. I highly recommend this spot if you’re looking for unforgettable yet affordable pasta. The cocktail, appetizer, and dessert were also delicious. Not to mention, the service was superb.

Huge improvement on the last Italian restaurant in this space! The bread is like a pizza crust flat bread (delicious). I had the best dish of carbonara I've ever had, just good pasta, eggs, cheese and herbs without being too rich or greasy. The price point might be a little daunting ($50 for an app and two entrees) but come on folks this isn't the olive garden. I'm willing to pay for housemade pasta and fresh tasty ingredients! I hope this place sticks around, we will be regulars.

I've been here several times since they opened as it is very convenient. The staff is amazing. Very friendly and professional. The Arancino is great (vegetarian was especially so if it is around. I think I was a guinea pig.) as well as the bruchetta and the Happy Norma pizza. I'll definitely return soon as it is well priced, delicious and very convenient.
