Best Korean Restaurants in Austin | Eater Austin

"Close to the Crescent shopping area, this Brentwood strip mall restaurant serves up all of the usual Korean favorites in a casual, old-school, and easygoing setting. It’s mainly known for its soups, stews, and noodles like jajangmyeon (black bean noodles), mandu soup, kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew), and rotating banchan. Complement the many spice-filled dishes with a cool glass of soju." - Darcie Duttweiler

Manna Korean Restaurant offers solid Korean fare with a welcoming atmosphere. We had the spicy pork and beef bulgogi—both were flavorful, though I personally prefer them served on a sizzling hot plate. The seafood pancake was decent but could use more seafood. The highlight of our visit was the incredibly friendly service from our server, who made the experience even better. Notably, there were many Korean diners here, which is always a good sign of authenticity. Overall, a good spot for Korean food, but a few small tweaks would make it even better!

Ordered the Haemool Jeongol (#45) spicy seafood soup. Abundant seafood - squid, octopus, crab, clams, mussels, and large shrimp. Came with zucchini, watercress, kimchi, tofu and udon noodles. Mildly spicy, bold flavor but not overwhelming hot spicy. Savory, slightly sweet, light soup enhanced by quality seafood. Hearty amount - could feed three people. Banchan consisted of gamja jorim (potatoes), kimchi, oi muchim (spicy cucumbers), kongnamul muchim (soybeans), and fishcake. Potatoes and fishcake prepared more salty than sweet which I prefer. Lightly fermented kimchi, still crunchy. Impressed with the size and flavor of the seafood soup. Good banchan offering. Came on Sunday at 2 pm and the lunch rush was still happening.

Twas my first time visiting this Korean restaurant! I’m so happy that I got to come here with my wife because I was craving for delicious tofu soup! I was wondering whether they can do it for vegetarian style and they did it for me! My wife got a bowl of vegetarian bibimbap and it was very good as well! I love that they gave us so much traditional side dishes and they are all good! The lady server was very friendly and nice! I’ll love to come back here for tofu soup!! Come visit and enjoy your meal 🍽️ Cheers 🥂 and keep up the good work!

I’ve been coming to this location ever since I was in college. My roommates parents brought me here and I haven’t stopped coming since. The ladies that were working were super nice and welcoming. It’s an old mom and pops restaurant. I love the vibe, makes me feel like I’m in my grandma‘s house. They have big flatscreen TVs. I love that their menu has plenty of pictures for you to see. I wish I could order everything. 10 out of 10, highly recommend.

Google
Authentic Korean food with clean barbecue grill/stoves at every table. Delicious seafood dishes; I especially enjoyed the #3 Pa Jeon - Seafood Pancake with green onions, $10.99; and #34 Ojingeo Bbockum-Spicy Squid Stir Fry with vegetables, $17.99. Also a wide selection of bottled beers, traditional Korean Alcohols (Makgeolli, Soju, Baekseju) and many soft drinks and juices. Clean, simple decor; nice metal chopsticks too! Clean restroom. Moderate prices.

Google
Ate here a few times and it’s became my favorite korean restaurant. Food is authentic Korean meals! Only complaint is that I noticed that they gave different side dishes to koreans who were there which I was alittle disappointed by. Aside from that, food was amazing, service could use some more checking in but the restaurant was small enough that they notice right away when you need something. I haven’t tried their meals for 3-4 people yet but i would love to try that someday. Their portion sizes were huge too honestly could do 2meals with it if you are a small eater.

Google
Very attentive waitress and help my son with the cutting his food and any needs he wanted. She was just as welcoming to other guest! Food wise it was good. We had seafood pancake, Spicy seafood soup and the combo korean ribs and cold noodle soup.

Google
I had the spare ribs, and they were delicious. Plenty of meat, very tender. My daughter had the beef bulgogi. My daughter enjoyed her meal as well. We will definitely be back. It's not amazing food, but it's definitely solid and enjoyable. It definitely has a strip mall atmosphere, so not fine dining. Just good food. Prices are middle of the road.

Yelp
Best kimchi jjigae in town!!! Not bitter, and spice is well tolerable. The bibimbap was good, I enjoy that the sauce is on the side and can be put to your liking. Their banchan is very well made too. Staff is kind, and restaurant is comforting
google avatar

Yelp
Seafood Pancake was too egg-y. Kalbi LA tasted okay, lack of grill action and flavor. Soondubu tofu with pork was served with seafood, it was okay as well.

Yelp
I had the #10, Dolsot - Bibimbab for lunch. Pro's: lots of food and service was fast. Cons: Not much beef in the dish, rice wasn't 'sticky/burnet' on bottom of pot and the dish didn't have a great deal of taste that I've experienced with other restaurants. Plus the menu prices online are cheaper than what was on the menu we were handed. Sorry, but that needs to be looked at quickly otherwise people might call it a bait and switch tactic. We thought the meals were 'good', not great. The 3 condiments (potatoes, cucumber & kim chee) were good but at other local restaurants they always offer to refill them, but not here. Still, they had a varied menu but wish they would have a lunch menu for lighter mid-day meals instead of a higher priced, larger portion, dinner meal.

Yelp
You know the Korean food is good when we went on a random weekday lunch and we were one of the only tables that didn't speak Korean. This is definitely a mom and pop restaurant with the sweetest lady taking our orders and making sure we were comfortable. The portion sizes are very large and nicely flavored. The sizzling hot bibimbap really hit the spot on a cold rainy day
google avatar

Yelp
This restaurant was recommended by a friend, he said this is the closest thing you'll get to authentic Korean food. As soon as I walked in, I knew this was going to be a regular spot for me. They offer so many traditional korean dishes, I'll definitely be back to try more. I really enjoyed the LA galbi, spicy cold noodles, and tofu soup. 10/10 reccomend you coming by to support this local small business

Yelp
Best and most authentic mom and pop Korean restaurant in all of austin. Been coming here for over 18+ years and it's always consistant and amazing tasting!!! Go check this place out!!

Yelp
I absolutely love Manna! It's super close to home for me and has become my new go-to Korean spot due to the always amazing food and service. The attached pic only shows about 1/3 of the #45 since I plated it at home, haemool jeongol so the portions were HUGE. Salmon sashimi is always fantastic quality and super fresh as well. The wonderful ladies who work there are lovely and doting as well!
google avatar

Jenny L.

Yelp
Wooowza! Their cold noodles are really good and it was so refreshing, especially from the Austin heat. The noodles were chewy and the vinegar added that extra flavor. The lady who served us was extremely nice and even offered to teach me how to eat the noodles. I would definitely come back the next time I'm in town!
google avatar

Angela G.

Yelp
The perfect spot for casual Korean food. The flavors were well balanced flavors and the portions were huge. The Jjambbong had noticeable seafood flavor in the broth, great portion of actual seafood, and tasty chewy noodles. The side dishes were actually really tasty on their own as well, savory and seasoned well.
google avatar

Tina D.

Yelp
I recommend galbi jungshik combo. The galbi meat is sweet and tender. I usually get their seafood soon tofu soup with it. The seafood soup broth is always nice. The mackerel was delicious too. I also tried their seafood pancake, and it was good. The service is usually only one lady, so it's not always the best. However, the food makes up for it.
google avatar

Chelsea L.

Yelp
I love Manna! The food is delicious and keeps me extra full. Each meal comes with a variety of Korean side dishes that are refillable. I got the seafood noodle soup, which is listed as an appetizer on the menu but it is enough food for a full meal! It is a little spicy, but not overpowering. The shrimp and crab both have their shells on them. You can use the extra plate they give you to get rid of shells.
google avatar

Yelp
I finally found the name of this restaurant! Love Manna Korean Restaurant so much. All of the folks you interact with here are great. We usually get the green onion pancake, chicken/beef bulgogi, jabchae and a hotpot. This place doesn't disappoint. My daughter had her first ever piece of rice here, which was a fun moment!
google avatar

Tracey Z.

Yelp
Don't come here expecting great service, the food is pretty authentic though. Got a fun array of banchan- they had the sweet potatoes, which are my favorite! Also the kimchi was good kimchi and the fish cake were tender. Tried the seafood casserole dish. Lots of seafood, wish there was more noodle. The soup was salty but spicy. Good korean fix. Definitely 2 dollar signs.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a no frills Korean restaurant. I went for the first time for dinner today and was not disappointed. If you are looking for authentic Korean food this place has you covered. I got the galbi and cold noodles. It was delicious! The banchan was also very yummy. They had braised potatoes which is one of my all time favorite side dishes. It can get busy so be sure to come early. The staff does their best to check in on you as well.
google avatar

Yelp
The best Galbi! Great kimchi soups My two faves and they rocked them both! Portions are sufficient. Check in on yelp to get a free treat.

Yelp
My wife and I have been here a few times over the last month. The Korean food we've had is great. Oftentimes, ethnic restaurants make dishes overly sweet and salty to cater to American tastes. Not this place from our experiences ... quite authentic. Prices are reasonable. Place is clean. Service is great. Owner is approachable and super nice guy. Try it out!
google avatar

Carrie M.

Yelp
I had amazing pork bulgogi here. My friends got the beef bulgogi and bibimbap, and they liked it. The side dishes that are served with the food were also really good. The food was expensive, but it was worth it. It definitely seemed like this place is catered towards Korean customers as the staff don't really speak English, and everyone I saw in the restaurant was Korean.
google avatar

Felisha S.

Yelp
Really doesn't look like much when you're looking at it, but this place is definition of a mom and pop Korean shop. This is my go to when I'm missing my moms cooking and wants some good kimchi jigae or bulgogi! They also have sushi but I don't recommend going here if that's what you're looking If you have someone to eat with highly recommend sitting in and getting the budaejigae (army stew) sitting and enjoying all of the ban chan! Don't expect any sort of great service, this again is a mom and pop shop! You come for the gold flavors and good, not for 5 star service. It's sits in the same plaza as Hana Market that is a Korean market! So usually after I eat or pick up food it's nice to be able to walk next door and grab some extra snacks or desserts!

Yelp
I went to this restaurant in a pretty big group (11 people) and they were able to accommodate all of us very quickly. I had ordered the Dolsot Bibimbab. It was one of the first dishes to come out and it was sizzling when I got it. However, the meat was cold. I had a couple friends try it and they agreed that it was cold. A friend suggested to mix the meat with the rest of the dish to heat up the meat. That makes sense, but I've had this dish before at other Korean restaurants and I'm pretty sure the meat should have been hot. My rice wasn't really crispy at the bottom of the bowl either. The banchan was pretty decent. I probably won't be coming back, but I'm glad I tried it.
google avatar

Kate Z.

Yelp
In short, the food was good, the service was awful, and the prices were not terrible but not affordable. I enjoyed my soondubu, as it was a hot bowl of tasty tofu, but had very little meat. The banchan was average, but we only got 4 small plates for the 4 of us. They do give you a good serving of food and the food came out as a good time. However, the service just left a bad taste in my mouth, so if I came back it would be for takeout. It's located by other Korean stores, so there's plenty of parking. Seating is spacious too.

Yelp
This place has been our Saving Grace during the pandemic. Food is authentic, portions are perfect and pricing is fair. Can't wait to try the entire menu!

Stacey S.

Yelp
Try the mackerel, it's amazing!! This is one of the more authentic Korean restaurants in the Austin area and usually our go to if we aren't wanting to cook our own Korean food. It's been a struggle finding decent Korean food in Austin but this place is definitely worth a try if you are looking for more authentic flavors. Service is okay but also understandable when they get busy. Our servers have never been rude to us but we usually aren't looking to strike up any conversation either. It's near a smaller Korean market. We usually stop by after we are done eating.

Yelp
Amazing food, amazing service, the most authentic food I've had in Austin. The ambiance is incredible. Sweetest ladies ever!!!!
google avatar

Claire S.

Yelp
This place deserves more stars. It offers probably the single best Korean food you can have in the Austin area. The ambience is not quite what you would expect if you like fine dining. But an unlimited supply of good banchan (even with to-gos upon request they give you a generous amount) is awesome.

Adriana V.

Yelp
I wish I had known about this place sooner!!! The food is amazing with all the best core Korean dishes. The people who work here are so kind and will help answer any questions you have. Just the perfect little mom and pop shop. Will absolutely be back! I already have an eye on the next dish I want to try.
google avatar

Michelle W.

Yelp
Great authentic Korean homecooking in a family owned restaurant. We had the seafood pancake, japchae, galbi, and the fried mackerel and everything was tasty. The portions were generous and the banchan was fresh. Would recommend all of the dishes we had! The decor was simple and the service could have been better, but the food compensates for all of that. I will definitely be back to try more items on their menu.
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
If I could give this place a 10/5 I would. The bibimbab was AMAZING! Fresh, the meat was tender and flavorful, good portion size, felt satisfied and full but not ugly full!! Highly suggest this place! My experience: I called and asked to pick up and order of bibimbab and they said it's be ready in 10 mins and it was! Thanks Manna staff! You made my Sunday dinner less stressful :)
google avatar

Angela l.

Yelp
Food was tasty but poor service. Waiter did not speak while taking our order and didn't ask us for drinks. Water was later brought. No one checked on us after food was brought out and it took a bit for the check to come. Staff was rude and didn't wait while we were considering boxes for leftovers. Food portions are big, but we paid $110 for 3 people. In the end my friend suggested it, but with the poor service will not be back.

Yelp
More adventures in dining, this time after visiting a few Asian markets in the Lamar Boulevard area. Stopped in for lunch in November with a dining companion. Service and hospitality was good. Food is cooked fresh to order, so depending on how crowded the restaurant is I can imagine the wait times will vary. We ordered the Spicy Cod Roe soup with vegetable and tofu (Al Tang) and the Spicy Kimchi soup with tofu and vegetables (Kimch Jjigae). The lunch was served with banchan (small side dishes). Both my dining companion and I enjoyed the dishes and would certainly visit again when we are in the neighborhood to explore their other menu items.
google avatar

Monica P.

Yelp
food: 4 stars menu is a little limited compared to other places I've been, but there's plenty to try. smaller menu is a good thing so they have time to specialize on the dishes they have. the banchan was limited, but they were all of my favorite ones-- kimchi, braised potato, cucumbers and the fishcakes. I tried the al tang, seafood pajeon and naengmyeon. portions are all quite large. the naengmyeon was on the tart side and had a strong horse radish taste since I had both of the optional condiments added. I liked how the naengmyeon had some Korean pear slices added, but the broth wasn't my favorite- I prefer a meatier broth. the pajeon was really good though- soft inside, crispy outside, and the seafood wasn't overcooked. venue: 3 stars quaint place with some tables having grills for BBQ. there's utensils on the table and sauces on a table off to the side near the window opening to the kitchen. no frills kind of spot, but you're there to eat. not too busy for a lunch rush on a Saturday. location: 4 stars lil mom n pop shop next to the smaller Korean grocery store. plenty of parking. no complaints per se -- not too difficult to find. service: 4 stars service isn't poor per se. folks were polite enough. they won't check on you, but they'll address whatever you need when you flag them down. would i come back? yeah!

Yelp
This place was such an incredible find - a gem in Austin serving some of the most authentic Korean food in the city! Diner-style, very casual mom & pop feel. The staff was so incredibly friendly, and the food was absolutely delicious. From the moment we walked in and saw what other tables were eating, we knew it was going to be good so we definitely indulged. We got the Japchae (my favorite dish of the night, a must), Beef Bulgogi, Pork Bulgogi (had a little kick to it), JaJangMyeon (so flavorful) and an order of the Mandu. Portions are plentiful so we left with some to-go for the week, but will definitely be back regularly.
google avatar

Steven S.

Yelp
Food was good. I am Korean and have been to Korea every year for the last 8 years (except during covid) so I know the culture for service. This was still sub par here. Had the pork bulgogi , janjangmyun , tofu jigae , spicy squid and bibim nengmyun. The best plate we had was janjangmyun (Chinese version black noodles) . I support local so I will go back and give another go.

Daniel E.

Yelp
Really great food, and the staff is nice. Only draw back is that their posted food prices online aren't their menu prices. Best advice is to double check prices when calling.

Jovany S.

Yelp
Amazing customer service I felt very welcome and the food was amazing, I'd highly recommend la galbi they are the best shorts ribs I've had in a while!!
google avatar

Yelp
Just staple Korean food for me since college. Sometimes quality is a hit or miss but somehow with the lack of Korean food options in central Austin, Manna would manage to satisfy my Korean food crave. Great value for the price compared to other establishments that serve Korean food. I love their ugeoji galbi tang (ribs and napa cabbage in fermented bean soup). The dish may be an acquired taste kinda dish but it works for me. Their yukkejang (spicy shredded beef soup) is also satisfying. For the most part, items on their menu are pretty solid. I remember one time I was blown away by their spicy seafood hot pot. I wasn't expecting it to be too luxurious but it was filled with plump, tasty seafood. I'm not a fan of bulgogi in general since I don't like sweet that much, but my husband likes their meat dishes, especially their pork bulgogi. I tend to crave their soup dishes more. They're comfort food to me.
google avatar

Yelp
Took a very long while to get menu. Food was OK but not usual serving size. Do not expect friendly service here. Definitely will not return.

Yelp
Authentic, legit, homemade, made-with-love Korean food. However else one can describe them positively. This restaurant's owners and staff take pride in the food they serve. Pride in food should speak volumes to you true food lovers out there. It certainly isn't the next trendy place in town that charges for every little thing you point at and add. They're not set up like a Chipotle or Subway. No offense if you like following steps 1-9 or what have you to order. Don't get me wrong, as a Yelper, I'll try anything once just to try, but hasn't that become a bit of a chore with the trendy spots? I love reviewing, but just because they're hot and new doesn't mean they'll be good. I have to be selective because like most, I don't get the quality I pay for at some trendy places. Just a pricey bill for consuming mediocrity. Now then. If you like seafood, you have to try their seafood pancake app. Crispy and delicious! Does anyone else use appetizers as a barometer with which to predict a restaurant? I'm sure some of y'all do. Ever try Calamari just to predict how Italian places are like? If they can't do Calamari right, don't expect to get your mind blown. Try their seafood pancake! All of the other go-to Korean dishes here are great such as Galbi, Bulgogi, Bibimbap, and Jap Chae. Those are our usual orders when eating Korean. This time we had Jap Chae, seafood pancake, and Galbi. Always sooo good here! I wish I had taken more pictures, but I was so hungry I forgot!
google avatar

Amy Beth C.

Yelp
So there's not enough cold days in Austin, this is the problem. Because cold days call out for the bibimbap in stone pot (#10) or one of the several spicy soups and I can eat both in one dinner!! Been in Austin 12 years, FINALLY found a Korean restaurant that hits the spot. I see some people had issues with the service but honestly, at least tonight the woman taking orders and bringing out food was really busy, even in the kitchen some and I'm not sure what people expect. You sit, you get water and she says to pick your own beer and pretty soon you have yummy food. Oh! And just to be random I added in the fried dumplings tonight to our order and they were so so flavorful. They are meat and crisp but not at all greasy. So anyhow. Eat here.
google avatar

Michelle W.

Yelp
Five stars for this local business. I have not been disappointed with anything I have ordered. We have tried the ribs, bulgogi and soups. I like to order the spicy seafood tofu soup here. To be honest, yes I have had better at another place. This soup is still better than some other places in the area so I come here when I am near Lamar. No long lines to wait in and you receive table service. The food is reasonably priced. They have tables with an area on it to cook your meat. The service is interesting. I am not complaining. It's one of those where you get a lot of attention in the beginning so they can get your order started. Not a bad thing! I definitely was starving each time so we did want to order as fast as we can too. Sometimes we want to browse the menu to venture out if possible. They bring out your food and check to make sure it's ok. I love when they open the egg for me in my soup. Too cute! Can't wait to try something else!
google avatar

Mary C.

Yelp
Do not order #23 yokgaejang otherwise known as spicy beef soup. The flavor of the soup was fine, but there was hardly any beef! They shredded it so finely that I can barely tell if there's any beef at all. I wasted more than $20 after taxes and tip for a small bowl of soup with mostly green onions and glass noodles. What a rip off!

Yelp
GREAT KOREAN FOOD. If you're looking for authentic Korean food, look here. I've tried multiple Korean food restaurants in Austin and this place has been the best. My parents, who are Korean, were amazed by the flavors here. We ordered a stew, japchae, mackerel and all of the dishes were delicious. There was not a single piece of food left on our table! They may not have the most aesthetically looking venue/atmosphere, but it didn't seem to matter when you're so focused on the food.

Gloria K.

Yelp
Wow, rough service today. JUST HORRIBLE. My server was too busy combing her fingers through her hair instead of making eye contact and just taking my order. After I received my order, the server did not come back to my table to check on me or even refill my empty water cup. There was only one other table right next to me, so it was SLOW. I wasn't even halfway finished with my meal and she comes to my table with a CHECK. Not a water pitcher to fill my empty water cup, but A CHECK. I was only at the table for 10 minutes TOPS after receiving my meal. I was basically being rushed to leave in a empty restaurant. I can't enjoy a meal in peace around here. Wow, I'm truly disgusted by the awful service.

Janeen O.

Yelp
Amazing authentic Korean food and the lady that runs everything, she is awesome, making sure everyone was taken care of. I'll be back again and again!
google avatar

Yelp
When it comes to Korean food, Austin doesn't have many GREAT options. However, there are a handful of pretty solid ones. Manna is one of them. Manna serves the traditional Korean dishes which include Bulgogi, Galbi, Tofu Soup, and even Naengmyeon (cold noodles). Their Katsu dishes are great, especially the Don Katsu. Prices are very reasonable for the amount of food they serve with each order as well. They also provide you with the complimentary side dishes (Bonchon). Service is great, however, I can understand how non-Koreans feel otherwise. Older Korean ladies can be very short and non-communicative, especially when their English is far from perfect. But if you can get over that language barrier, definitely give this place a shot if you're craving some Korean goodness.
google avatar

Travis C.

Yelp
I ate at Manna two days ago, and I got food poisoning. I have been sick for two days now. Two stars because it tasted good in the moment, but I'll not be back. Be careful.
google avatar

Vy T.

Yelp
Pretty good prices and portions, although not exactly pleased with the taste. First time ordering for take out, cold noodles were pretty good and so was the japchae. Thought the japchae the second time trying was REALLY sweet but it might have been a miss that day. Galbi was SUPER chewy. Overall, taste wise, it's a hit or miss, 8 out of 10.
google avatar

Jamie L.

Yelp
A little inconspicuous restaurant in a corner of a shopping market, but there were surprisingly quite a lot of people when we walked in. We ordered the galbi tang and japchae which came with 4 small Korean side dishes, which were pretty tasty. The japchae portion was a little small and too salty in my opinion but not bad. The galbi tang was a lot better- had great flavor and was seasoned perfectly. Overall: pretty good food and you get a good amount of food for what you pay for!
google avatar

Daniela R.

Yelp
Honestly don't know why this place has such a low rating but it is amazing. We ordered Dolsot Bibimbap to share and it was flawless And I ordered the LA Galbi short rib and it was sooooo good. So many onions on the bottom that made the dish all the more enjoyable. Will definitely be back. Sorry the only pics I have to offer are screenshots of a video but the video displayed the steaming, sizzling goodness.

Yelp
This place is one of the better Korean restaurants of Austin in my opinion. By no means is it a good as Korean food you would find in Dallas, but it's still pretty authentic with good taste. I have come here several times to get the pork belly (you have to get at least 2 servings of it) because the quality and value is so great! Portion is huge. They pre-cook the pork in the back (freshly) and bring it out to you on a portable grill so that you don't have towait for it to cook as long. The pork is big and thick and juicy, and pretty good quality meat (not too much fat on it) and it comes with all of the side dishes as well as your choice of dwenjang-jjigae or kimchi-jjigae! And as many rice bowls as needed. I also tried the jjajangmyun (black bean noodles) out of sheer curiosity and need to satisfy cravings. I was pleasantly surprised. The noodles weren't the best quality, but the sauce was house made with authentic non-pre-packaged veggies and fresh meat! Portion was on the smaller side, perfect for me, but definitely wasn't a sharing size. Service probably isn't the best, but if you ask, they provide. Be nice. Also the ahjummas aren't great at English so take that into consideration. Maybe go with a friend who can speak in Korean for you!

Yelp
I swear, the owner's beef tofu soup is my lucky charm!!! I always order food here before and after my exams and, so far, made all A's for the past 3 semesters of pharmacy school! As a creature of habit, I only get the very yummy, beef tofu soup Also, the lady is super nice. Today, she asked me about the weather and then told me to enjoy the food. 5 stars for this place.
