The 12 Best Japanese Barbecue Restaurants in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"Manpuku has solid meat quality and some interesting takes on marinating/dry-brining, including a salt-and-sesame-seed dusted pork toro (actually jowl meat) that will make you wonder why no one else has ever thought of this in Japanese or Korean barbecue. An all-around solid yakiniku experience, it’s a higher quality version of Gyu Kaku at a slightly higher price point." - Euno Lee

Google
Very tasty food but don’t expect a good value. 6 small slices of Kobe filet costs $39. My family has sophisticated taste bud and can tell a difference but I am a peasant and feels it just tastes like well marinated beef.

Google
The meat was pretty good! we ordered the tongue, skirt, pork belly, and galbi. We also had the beef stew, tartare, salad, and dessert. The food was good but I would say that the service is a bit fast because they ask about getting new dishes a bit too often so it felt a bit rushed.

Victor Shih

Google
Very rude service. No one told us if there is any time limit and I believe there is none for the dining time limit but they rush to clean the table just because there are people waiting outside. As soon as the table are cleaned and while we were still talking and drinking water, we were asked to leave right away. We made reservations, we ordered 4 orders of premium omakase. We left 20% tips. However we will NEVER come back to a restaurant with this kind of ghetto service. Service is really whatsoever. Nobody gives a shit and you need to chasing them for just adding some water to your empty cups. No dining time limit but a round face girl waitrrsd (Not our original serving waitress) just keep rushing with the desert even we haven't finished the dinner. After desert, she cleaned up the table right away and ask us to leave with a fake smiling face even we were still drinking water and talking. My son even had ice cream in his mouth Lol. After we got to the door, some people are waiting outside and I realized that they are rushing for next table's money. Since I already paid for the meal and the tips, I guess they are focus on one-time customer only. So I'm never go back to this place. By the way the meat quality is just so-so compares to waygu from Japan. Regardless the service, the food compared to the price, It is an overrated restaurant.

Google
Great food, great service! The ambiance is nice, and they somehow keep the place from getting greasy despite having grills at every table. After the first round of meat, I totally forgot to take pictures. The negi tan shio goes so incredibly well with freshly squeezed lemon. I'm not normally a tan (tongue) sort of guy, but Manpuku's is delicious. Their cabbage salad looks really too basic on the menu, but it's a great way to start your dining experience--the house dressing rocks.

Google
🇯🇵 Japanese high end posh and artsy atmosphere grill experience. 👑 Nice and cozy 🐻 Great place for a date 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩 Menu can be confusing but laid out by the staff. 🤔👩🏼‍🍳 Very shareable small Tapas like plates🍱 Portion sizes can be small additional plates can be ordered🥡 It is fun to order different meat or fish to be grilled with fire rigth at your table. 🔥 Good high end Japanese booze 🍶 Very nice indeed and had a good time . 🍊

Google
This is a very nice place. There are staff with nice smiles and delicious meat. Don't forget to make a reservation!

Google
I went there for the first time. We ordered US KOBE COURSE. Kobe beef was so tender and delicious. I will definitely go back for that.

Andy Cha

Google
I had Zabuton, Wagyu Tokujo Kalbi, Tan Shio, and a pumpkin zenzai here. My favorites were the Zabuton (really really good) and the Kalbi. It is indeed a bit expensive, but the quality matched the price. Service was attentive and friendly as well. For beef tongue though, I would recommend going to gyutan tsukasa instead.

Yelp
We reserve Manpuku for very special occasions... a 14th Wedding Anniversary date seemed like the perfect reason to treat ourselves to the omakase at Manpuku. Every dish was beyond delicious. And I think the thing I appreciate about eating beef here is that they let the flavor of the meat shine. It's not overshadowed with fancy flavoring. They definitely curate some special seasonings for their high quality meat, but those seasoning only serve to enhance the flavor of the meat. The ambiance is cozy and clean. A funny moment happened while we were there... we went for a late dinner and you know, lighting was perfect for a cozy anniversary date... at the end of our satisfying meal, the lights flickered funny... guess all this time, they were having some lighting issues and we didn't even know it. The waitresses and we had a chuckle together about it. Didn't hinder our experience. The waitresses were sweet and not too attentive but just enough attention. Highly recommend for a very special occasion - in other words, it's not cheap dining, but it's worth every bite, I mean penny.

Yelp
Went to Manpuku Torrance today and honestly one of the worst service experiences I've ever had. Our server, Hiromi, was rude from the moment we sat down impatient, dismissive, and acted like we were an inconvenience the entire meal. No hospitality at all, which is shocking for a place like this. Manager was informed but he didn't seem to care too much. What's crazy is that even after being treated like that, I still left a 20% tip, but honestly, this kind of attitude shouldn't be acceptable. The food might be good but service matters and today it was terrible. Won't be coming back anytime soon.

Yelp
If you take away one thing from this post, it is to get the US Kobe "Sukiyaki"! My friends and I went to Manpuku to celebrate a friend's birthday and we opted for the Manpuku Premium set (4 servings). It was sooooo much food. We felt stuffed half way through the meal and the meat just kept coming. For the most part, you cook all the meat yourself with the exception of the US Kobe "Sukiyaki" item. That one was the tastiest and most special item and I didn't even enjoy it at its fullest potential because I can't eat raw egg due to pregnancy food restrictions. The US Kobe "Sukiyaki" is grilled by your server to perfection to ensure the meat isn't overdone. It is dipped in sukiyaki sauce with a raw egg yolk. The meat is then used to wrap around a tiny ball of white rice and then it's ready for your consumption. Highly recommend getting this a la carte if you are not planning on splurging for the premium set! You don't want to miss out. Manpuku Premium - $89/per person (2 person minimum) -Garlic Edamame -"Monaka" Truffle Beef Tartare -US Kobe "Sukiyaki" -US Kobe Filet (salt) -US Kobe Boneless Short Rib (BBQ Sauce) -US Kobe Chuck Flap (BBQ Sauce) -Miso Skirt Steak -Garlic Fried Rice -Spicy Beef or Egg Soup -Japanese Ice Cream - vanilla, lychee, or green tea Instagram: @jessgoeat

Yelp
Manpuku in Torrance is my go to place whenever I'm craving high-quality Japanese barbecue in Southbay LA. The marbling on all their meats here are amazing and you can really taste the great quality. My favorite cuts are the Tokyo style short rib and beef tongue along with their pork jowl. The Kobe beef sukiyaki is a must get because they cook it quickly in front of you and wrap a small piece of rice inside, then dip it into an egg yolk, which is perfect with a side of rice. You can also get a small skillet of garlic in oil to heat on the grill. It pairs so well with your meat, along with their assorted kimchi that they have. My favorite side dish is their beef tartare because it's light and refreshing and still has a lot of flavor. They're located in Torrance off of Carson Avenue, and have a small parking lot that can sometimes get pretty busy. I would definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time and coming here for a date night or with a group of friends to enjoy drinks and great food!

Yelp
So far the best Japanese BBQ I've tried between LA and San Diego. We made a reservation for 4, but probably could've walked in. Ample parking! Got a nice cozy vibe inside and the service from the staff were unmatched! Kind and attentive. We tried the $89 premium omakase and honestly everything was just perfect. Super tender and juicy cuts of meet, rich tartare sandwich thing, just all of it. You get plenty of meat so to try all different foods I'd recommend the omakase! I'm committed to return again. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
I used to frequent the Manpuku in Santa Monica so much I'd consider myself a VIP there, so I had high hopes when my husband and I came to the Torrance location for date night. Unfortunately, it just didn't quite hit the same. The ambiance was nice -- dimly lit and quiet, with a slightly romantic vibe -- though our table felt a little too close to the one next to us. The restaurant was clean, but you could tell it wasn't brand new. We had a food modification that was agreed upon but misunderstood. While the chefs corrected it, the staff didn't seem very apologetic and honestly came off a bit annoyed. The service overall felt indifferent, maybe even borderline rude, which is surprising for a Japanese restaurant where service is usually a strong point. That said, the quality of the meat was solid, and while Japanese BBQ isn't cheap, the value was still there in terms of the food itself. All in all, it was fine -- not bad, but nothing special either. With better service, it could've been a 4 star. I don't think I'll be eager to come back anytime soon. It wasn't bad, just not good enough to beg for a return.

Yelp
If I had a buck for every time I drove by and didn't notice this place! What makes it even more ironic is that I have this place bookmarked. Heh... Some of my fellow Yelpers strongly advised making reservations, and I got a bit antsy since it was a last minute audible. Luckily, they were able to accommodate my party of 8 (room for a 3 month old's stroller included.) We arrived about 15 minutes early, so we were down for a wait, but! We got seated immediately instead. They were prepared for us! It wasn't busy - maybe two or three other tables of 4 to 6 people other than us. Menus were strategically placed on the table so we got to take a good look at them immediately. It took us awhile since we couldn't really make up our minds, so our server suggested order 2 orders each of their Prix Fixe tastings (Prime Beef and American Wagyu) and add on as needed. Clever! So, that's exactly what we did! We all went nuts on both salads. They were prepared differently with different dressings, and both freshly made. Great starter. The shishito peppers were seasoned nicely as well - they are not spicy at all, and we cleaned that bowl up as well. Both tastings included a garlic rice which they mix for you when it gets to the table. If you're a garlic fiend, this is for you! A good pairing to all the grilled proteins! The assorted kimchi were great palate cleansers. We put in an order of pork belly as well as pork cheek just because we wanted to try them. They are delish, just like all the meats and seafood we threw on the grill. Our ultimate favorite, though, is the Kobe sukiyaki wraps! It is pricey, sure, but it is soooooo worth it! Highly recommending! FOOD: 5. SERVICE: 4. VALUE: 3. PARKING: Shared private lot with others. Wasn't an issue on a random weeknight. OVERALL: 4. HEADS UP: They stop taking orders a 915pm on weeknights. Really glad of the discovery! Now on my radar and list of Japanese BBQ joints should the craving come up!

Yelp
Derricious Japanese BBQ with a shockingly tasty Manpuku salad. We came by for our friend's birthday and we thoroughly enjoyed all the cuts of US prime & angus beef including ribeye, rib cap, boneless short rib, outside skirt steak, and hangar steak. The Tokyo style beef tongue was also tender and flavorful. From the sides, the spicy beef soup was bold while the garlic fried noodles were more mild. Overall, a great experience with the only downside being the value - prices were steep for small servings of each cut and it becomes significantly more expensive with the American wagyu cuts.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow!! Melt in your mouth good, this is definitely a place where top quality beef is at vs quantity. We got an order of Kobe fillet, ribeye, and short ribs, prime beef tongue . The Kobe was melt in your mouth good to the point where we just had to order a second round. The Uni and Kobe sashimi is a must try! So delicious!!! The service was tentative and friendly. Overall the experience and food was on point.

Yelp
My family came here to celebrate my dad's birthday and it was delicious! The 4 of us shared 3 of the "Prime Beef Tasting", which was one of their set meals. It came with spicy beef soup, garlic friend rice, kimchi, bean sprouts, cabbage salad as appetizers. The cabbage salad came with a delicious dressing! It was definitely my favorite appetizer. The garlic fried rice was flavorful and I enjoyed the crispiness of some pieces of the rice from getting grilled on the hot stone bowl. It came with various meats: Tokyo style prime short rib, prime ribeye, prime hangar steak, prime outside skirt, angus tri tip & shrimp! The shrimp tasted delicious with the ponzu they gave. Our favorite meat was the prime hangar steak. It was very tender & flavorful. A couple of the meats were a bit chewy but flavor was always good. It came with a scoop of green tea ice cream for dessert. Overall, the best deal is definitely getting their set meals because you get to try so many different appetizers & meats without having to buy everything a la carte. It is pricy, but for a special occasion, I would recommend!

Yelp
Very nice, "high-end" (should be $$$$ not $$$) yakiniku restaurant. Tried many parts of their beef and they were all outstanding; services were also fabulous, too. The best part was their superb ventilation system, which left clothes odorless after meal. Surprised that during grilling the beef, the whole table was smokeless. Highly recommended their sukiyaki wrap(?), dipped in raw egg yolk. First time had it and it left me speechless.
google avatar

Yelp
It was my bf and I first time here since we were in the area with a friend. Our favorite was the Tokyo style prime short rib, salted pork cheek, and the Kobe short rib. We also got 2 pots of garlic fried rice as well. Service is very fast and staff members are attentive when you need service. I'm definitely going to the other location in Costa Mesa for Valentine's Day
google avatar

Yelp
The good: We got the prime beef prixe fixe menu for $69 per person (minimum 2 people) that came with a mushroom rice, spicy tofu soup, beef and shrimp, ice cream, salad and some ban chan. The interior has an elegant, modern and simplistic Japanese-feel. The waiters replaced our grill grate after every batch we grilled (2 changes). I liked the shredded salad and how it had a bitter quality. The tofu soup was nice and not too spicy nor too salty. The shiso mushroom rice came in a hot stone pot so the rice had a crispy nice char on the edges and a unique flavor because of the shiso. The lychee ice cream was creamy and yummy. We also had green tea ice cream but had an option for vanilla. Recommendations are recommended. The bad: It's really pricey. There's no outdoor seating. The interesting: This is a Japanese and Korean-inspired fusion spot. The tofu soup was like Korean tofu soup and the ban chan Included sesame bean sprouts, kim chi and more. They have private tatami mat rooms with tables that appear like you'd be sitting on the ground but actually have a space for you to dangle your legs and sit normally. You take your shoes off for this seating.

Yelp
The food quality is excellent. We had the premium Omakase which beef tartare (it was like Hawaiian ahi poke in a cute crispy shell) & sukiyaki (an unexpected favorite). The meats were excellent quality and it was enough food to fill you up. Even the salad & edamame were top notch. Service was great.
google avatar

Jenny H.

Yelp
I got the wagyu prixe fixe menu and it was delicious! It comes with a salad, shishito peppers, soup and rice, shrimp and scallop and ice cream at the end- and just a deletable meal all around! I thought the shrimp was really good and their one cut of meat which was the fattiest one was delicious (ribeye?) - overall so fun and delicious!

Yelp
Manpuku is probably my favorite Japanese BBQ chain. The food always feels very fresh and the quality over multiple visits. The tasting menu is such a steal, $60 for 6 different meats, salads, sides, soups, and dessert. Was definitely stuffed after finishing the set. The service is decent - slow at times but the servers are all super nice and friendly. The traditional japanese seating on the left side is a plus too.
google avatar

Serena L.

Yelp
Great place for japanese bbq. Kind and attentive servers and premium meat. This place is great once in a while if you're willing to spend some cash for better meat. We tried a variety of pork and beef, including beef tongue. Everything was tender and juicy, highly recommend to try at least once.

Yelp
This place was a delightful surprise. Because this was our first time, we ordered PRIX FIXED MENU ( PRIME BEEF)- This was tasty. Plenty of food.. we walked out so full. The KIMCHI was very good. My fave was the radish one. The CABBAGE SALAD - was great with the beef My least favorite was the hangar. The GARLIC FRIED RICE- this was good but I'm very sensitive to shiso.. next time will ask if they can leave out? THE BLACK SESAME MOCHI ICE CREAM was good. It came with 2! This may be my new fave place in Torrance.
google avatar

Jay D.

Yelp
My foodie friend (and her foodie hubby) brought us here for dinner one night when we were visiting them because they like Manpuku so much. We ended up going to the Torrance location and it didn't disappoint! The food was all amazing, the meat was tender and flavorful, the Kobe sukiyaki wrap was especially delicious so I definitely recommend springing for that! Our waiter was incredible and the whole experience was lovely!

Yelp
So yummy! I've passed by this place so many times to eat at Hachi, I'm so glad we finally stopped by. We were lucky and they had a cancellation, but otherwise reservations are needed for the weekends. We got: 1) garlic fried rice - good but not amazing, I probably wouldn't get again 2) spicy beef noodle - same, good but I think I would skip next time and just get the meat 3) Tokyo style beef tongue - good, a little chewy 4) Tokyo style prime short rib - very good, tender. Would get again 5) Assorted mushrooms - yummy when grilled and fresh. 6) Kobe Sukiyaki wrap - amazing! It's pricey, you only get 2 pieces for $24 but the flavor is on point and they cook it for you. Would def get again 7) Pork Belly with lettuce - fun and delicious! Comes with little lettuce wraps with fired garlic/green onions etc that you put the pork belly in once you cook it. Would get again! 8) Pumpkin Kensai - ice cream with mochi, red bean, and pumpkin sauce. Good but I like the fried pumpkin dessert from Torihei more. Totally with tax and tip was $166, which is pretty good considering how much food we got. I would definitely come back and try other meats! They also have the prefix but I'm glad we tried other meats that weren't on the prefix.

Yelp
Delicious Japanese bbq! The staff was pleasant and welcoming! We had a variety of dishes but our favorites were the signature pork tongue with shio, garlic and onion on top, the pork cheek and the tartare! It is expensive here but it was a nice treat!
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
I've always wanted to try Manpuku since it's supposed to be the best yakiniku in Torrance. Kobe beef tongue - thick cut, quite good Kobe beef short rib - good quality Intestines - a bit too chewy Kobe sukiyaki wrap - star of the show, great flavor by itself but when combined with egg and rice, it was the perfect bite, this one they cook for you Maybe the grill wasn't hot enough? It was hard to get the meat to have grill marks. I was missing a little bit of that charred flavor. Service was good and the decor was nice. Small parking lot but seems to be enough spaces.
google avatar

Steve M.

Yelp
Best kimchi and sukiyaki/zubaton! That is all i have to say. But they are requiring 85 char.
google avatar

Viv C.

Yelp
A tad bit pricey but quality of food is top notch. Staff is friendly and the place is clean. It's a bit on the small side, so make a reservation if you have a larger party.

Yelp
I struggled between giving this place three stars or four. I ultimately gave it three stars because the place for me is just good in a basic way. The reason why I feel this way is because I paid almost 200 dollars for a regular Thursday night dinner. And I do not have money like that. So I would not go again because I cannot afford it. And if I did want to splurge, I would go to another place. But I can admit that this is my preference. I can see how other people, would be happy to spend 200 dollars in this place, both for a splurge or because they have the means. This place is about the meat- cooking the meat in a bbq in front of you. So it is kind of an experience a la Korean bbq. But for a foodie dinosaur like me the experience was, in a phrase, seen that done that. This place did not wet my beak to the heights of excitement and parade. The meats were good but as a stand alone dish the vibe objective was a miss. I had to use a salad, corn, and sauces to make a compose dish that served my needs. My dinner partner did not like vegetables so he was content for the meat. I cannot write this much more about this place. Go here if you understand this type of cuisine cause it was part of your culture or you were raised to acquire the taste. But if you do not understand this type of fare, then go somewhere like Benihana. It will give you the sparkle and light that you crave at a cheaper price point. If you are about this food, then this place will meet your palette requirements because you likely understand what this type of place offers and welcome it for its fullness. I could only see what it lacked because I enjoy other foods and dining experiences. The paragraph above is my best message for the reader who consults Yelp to truly make a determination of where to invest their money in when it comes to a night out that is anchored by a nice dinner at a nice place.
google avatar

Tiffany K.

Yelp
Highly recommend making a reservation as it is a small restaurant. If you would like a parking spot, definitely come early as well, but you'll most likely have to park on the street. Came here for dinner with my husband and we both got the prime beef tasting menu, prime beef tartare, and fresh corn and it was perfectly enough food for us. The meat was very high quality and the marinade on them were so good. The corn was nice and buttery and I think paired well with the meat. the tasting menu came with some veggies that were enough for us. definitely will be back to try the rest of the menu!
google avatar

Sara I.

Yelp
Awesome dining experience! We did the prixe frix prime beef menu and it came with a lot of food. I was sufficiently stuffed by the end of the meal. The beef was high quality and still tasted good even though we overcooked half of it lol. The sides were also delicious...my favorites were the cabbage salad, kimchi and the spicy beef soup. The food came out quickly and staff was friendly. Small parking lot but we found parking. Ambiance inside is Japanese inspired, small but clean.

Yelp
They charged me extra on my card now I'm spending hours on the phone with the bank never returning

Riyah P.

Yelp
I love this place as far as food goes, it's a little pricey but it's always worth it. The service is usually fine but the other night we had a reservation at 930, they close at 1030. It started off not great when a woman called me and said "can you be here before 930 because that's when we do last call?" Ummmmm then why does open table allow me to make a reservation for as late as 945? Doesn't make sense. So we show up, it didn't feel like we were rushed at first but then at the end they literally turned the music off as we're still eating and dropped off the check. And just now we realized on our bank statement they took it upon themselves to add an unauthorized tip after they took the check. Sadly I think they changed maitre d and that's why the service has changed.
google avatar

Stella L.

Yelp
One of my favorite japanese bbq spots. My favorites to order are the manpuku salad, and the tokyo style angus beef tongue. Their marinated beef dishes are worth a try as they are not too sweet and gives a nice flavor to the meat. I enjoy the kimchi assortment but it is a bit pricey for what you get. They also replaced one of the kimchis with a tomato one which is good but I prefer the original combination. This is definitely one of the nicer japanese bbq spots. Very clean interior and great service. I recommend trying the kobe sukiyaki wrap if you want the full experience. It is very expensive for a one-biter but it's worth it in my opinion. It's a nice way to finish off the meal so save some room! Try the beef tartare if you're feeling adventurous!
google avatar

Yelp
A little steep on the price but I wanted to see what the fuss was all about. The food is good but not worth the price imo.

Yelp
The first time I've tried Manpuku was 3yrs ago, it was my favorite and I highly recommend it with my family and friends. It's my first time in this location, service is nice (but not warming/friendly) the food i love pricey but I be liked it very much. They used to grill it for you before. Ambience 5/5.
google avatar

Jordan Z.

Yelp
I like it. It's got good food and it's decently priced. It's an OK place. I'd say it's pretty good for the prices nowadays I wouldn't give it an A+ but definitely give it a B or a C.
google avatar

James Q.

Yelp
Manpuku is great. The vibe here was more "Japanese" because of the the decor. The food and taste were amazing. The service was amazing and professional. Note that because it's a Japanese spot, so the portion won't be big. Come here for taste than satiation. Uniquely this place has several selections of raw beef dishes.

Yelp
Food is just as good as the first time around. Brought a visitor from Down Under and rest of our family -total of seven adults. We all got the prix fixe menu Kobe beef , plus the sukiyaki beef roll. The server prepared the sukiyaki roll at table side, it was delicious, tender and I could eat ten more, lol. Quiet Monday dinner , with maybe just three other tables occupied. It's definitely a splurge but we enjoyed every bit of it: kimchi, spicy cucumber, tofu topped with salad, bean sprouts, cabbage salad -sliced so very thinly they almost are like threads of noodles, fried rice which we got two ways: garlic with bits of beef and onion with sesame oil . The beef came out in two servings: tri trip, brisket & we also got shrimp. Classy but not overly so, great for family or work gatherings. You don't end up smelling like smoky meat even if the grill is working the entire time. Alcohol ( beer and wine, sake of course) and a few cocktails available - I got a soda water with plum liquor.
google avatar

Yelp
Not consistent, hit and miss at this location in terms of food and customer service. We ordered fixed course for 2, didn't get our second plate of beef until end of the course where I had to order another dish in between, then got rushed out...gave 20 percent tips regardless, I know they work hard but not coming back here anytime soon, better place to spend over 200 bucks for 2 prime beef fixed courses

Nicolas L.

Yelp
While the bill was a little on the steep side, it was well worth it. This was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Every bite was delicious and we enjoyed our dining experience immensely. Nice ambiance, great service, and incredible food. If you're looking for a good Japanese BBQ spot in Torrance, you have to give Manpuku a try. You won't regret it. We'll definitely be going back!

Tony R.

Yelp
Great fun place. My wife and I went on a Friday night. Good portions, good vibe, very attentive service. We had a pre fix dinner for two. Meat kept coming as did the sides which were great. I'll definitely be back. You will leave stuffed.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place, but unfortunately was disappointed. We were a party of 7, and each of us got food poisoning after eating the beef tartar! All the negative symptoms for 2 days, and I'm still hurting while writing this. Bad food handling, or storage? Besides the tar tar, at least the cooked slices of wagyu were tasty. Service was less than average unfortunately too. It was a Thursday evening and our water cups were empty throughout the dinner without any offer to refill once! I'd hate to assume if it's because our Japanese server saw we were a mixed group and not all Japanese... but you never know. Still unacceptable. Parking is pretty tough. It's in a small plaza, but if you park by the reflexology massage place on the other side, you prob have a better chance finding an open spot. For us to spend over $500 and get food poisoning with subpar service is quite disappointing. Especially when everyone gets sick and has to call off work on top of that... likely to say that none of us will be back.

Yelp
4.5 stars! Went there for dinner on a Friday. Place is kind of small but it doesn't feel cramped. There is sufficient room in between tables. We got the beef tasting omakase and beef tongue on the side. Everything was so good! The salad dressing on the cabbage salad was flavorful. Definitely recommend the garlic rice. It was very garlicky and so good! The beef soup was a bit bland. Very good service. They're very attentive and once they see that your grill is even slightly charred, they quickly swap it.

Yelp
My husband and I got the $80 prefixe US Kobe course per person and 3 additional meat cuts inclusive of Kobe tongue ($25), premium tongue ($19), and A5 wagyu chuck flap ($48). We also got two drinks, and our total bill came out to $330 with tax and tip included. Overall I felt that the $80 prefix Kobe course was not worth it. The quality of the meat was not great and was heavily marinated in sauce. The Kobe tongue was a thick cut, so save yourself the cost and just get the premium tongue which was better in texture, cut, and quality. The A5 wagyu chuck was also very mediocre where the color and marble was only decent. All other Japanese restaurants just serve plum wine on the rocks. However, the server asked if I wanted it on the rocks, with water, or with soda. I was very confused with these options so I just told her to get me whatever her recommendation is. I ended up being served the plum wine diluted with water. I took a sip and immediately disliked it, so I asked to get it changed to on the rocks. They were super hesitant in changing my drink. Mind you that this is only $9 compared to all the meats that we got and the quality of the plum wine is also very cheap. They ultimately changed it for me but kept emphasizing that this is only one time change. This left a sour taste in my mouth. You're seriously going to make a big deal over $9? Overall, we paid premium price for mediocre food and subpar service.

Yelp
This is now my favorite spot for Japanese bbq . I love that you get to cook on charcoal which gives the meat great flavor. The selection of meats is incredible. I enjoyed this place from the quality of the selection to the taste of the meats My gf and I did the US beef tasting which was extremely delicious. We didn't opt for the Waygu tasting but I will be trying that next time It came with the following for 68$ / person ( they do require 1. Appetizers : edamame and assorted kimchi 2. Salads: cabbage salad 3. BBQ meats: negi shio short rib, prime rib eye , prime hangar steak, prime outside skirt, angus Tri trip , shrimp 4. Soup: spicy beef soup, 5. Rice : fried garlic rice 6. Dessert: ice cream There are a couple manpuku locations theres this one in Torrance as well as one on Sawtelle.

Yelp
Been to Manpuku several times. It's very good and the staff are quite excellent as well. The food is expensive but you are getting excellent quality. This review is specifically on how they handle issues that arise. We dined last Saturday evening and all was going well until the exhaust fans in the entire restaurant stopped working. The facility was eventually completely engulfed in smoke, it was so thick and intense both of our eyes were watering and throats were irritated. Staff were frantic and trying to deal with what was clearly a major issue. They opened doors to let it air out. The smoke eventually (after 15-20 mins) seemed to go away and perhaps their fans were working once again. While staff were apologetic, they promptly delivered bills with little to no consideration to what just transpired. Since then, my wife and I both have experienced throat issues, she even had to go on medicine after a doctors visit. We will not be returning due to this last experience. Consideration should have been given to patrons directly affected by this issue. Leaves me with a very bad taste in my mouth about how they consider taking care of customers.

Yelp
'm happy to write this review as I had such a positive experience at Manpuku Japanese BBQ! I had not been back since the pandemic so it was great to find that everything is just as great as i remember it. One of the things that sets Manpuku apart is their fantastic service. It's clear that the staff is committed to providing a top-notch dining experience, and their friendliness and attention to detail really shine through. It's always a pleasure to be greeted with a warm smile and to feel well taken care of throughout the meal. And of course, the food at Manpuku is simply outstanding. The American wagyu tasting menu is a particular highlight, showcasing the restaurant's commitment to using only the highest-quality ingredients. And I couldn't agree more about their house-made kimchi - it's the perfect balance of tangy, spicy, and savory, and adds a wonderful burst of flavor to any dish. Overall, I highly recommend Manpuku Japanese BBQ to anyone looking for a delicious and memorable dining experience. From the food to the service, everything is top-notch, and I can't wait to go back myself!

Yelp
Family went here for a birthday dinner - better come here hungry because they give you a lot of food - we ordered both the Prime and the Wagyu and we loved every bite of everything
