"Even by Norwegian standards, Manshausen Island is out there. This island in the Steigen Archipelago was once a traders’ outpost, and the hotel’s 1880s-vintage main house is a relic of this era. But the sea cabins are quite a bit newer. These pared-down larchwood-and-glass structures perch right at the water’s edge, affording vertiginous views through full-length windows from living rooms furnished with mid-century reproduction furniture." - The MICHELIN Guide

Was thrilled to finally be able to stay at Manshausen after having sent Up Norway guests here over many years. We loved our cabin, the waffles for breakfast, taking the rowboat out at sea, the sauna, and practising the art of doing nothing in the unbelievable summer weather.

Manshausen Island is a beautiful and serene destination, perfect for anyone seeking tranquility, delicious food, and panoramic views of natural beauty. During our stay we went to bed to sights of the northern lights and woke up to stunning sunrises. Alongside the relaxation there is also lots of adventure to be had on the island and the friendly staff are always happy to help with recommendations and ensure we made the most of our experience.

The island is fantastic; Angus and his colleagues are very friendly and greatly helped us. Angus also accompanied us for a wonderful kayaking experience and shared some stories about the island. We also saw amazing northern light and hundreds of stars. It was an unforgettable memory.

What a fabulous place. As other reviewers note, it's not a casual trip to get here, but once you do, the mixture of playful and thoughtfu modern architecture, rural island life, dramatic mountain peaks, and the sea make amazing alchemy for a unique and truly special experience. Service went above and beyond at every step, dining was high quality and locally-oriented, and a great roster of activities from sauna to hiking to kayaking on offer, even in the off-season. We did the "eagle safari" to some islands about 30 min away and have never seen more sea eagles in one place - at least a dozen. Utterly remarkable experience, Adrian was a great guide. Worth every penny and every minute you spend to get here, you won't regret it. Cabins are phenomenal with floor-to-ceiling windows that are cantilevered over the water to make you think you are at sea (but happily no waves). Just idyllic. Plus: cute and fearless sheep roam the island. Go!

This elevated eco hotel is an amazing experience for anyone looking for an adventure off the beaten path. It is quite a trek to get to Manshausen, but once you are there, it is incredible. The cabins are extremely modern, ecofriendly, and playful. We went in July (bring nightmasks) and we did Nordskot Traverse excursion with Jessie, a knowledgeable and skillful Manshausen guide and halibut fishing. Angus, the head property manager, may be the maturist, friendliest guide we have ever met.

Manshausen was our first stop on our Honeymoon and it did not disappoint. The weather could have been better in early June but otherwise everything here was incredible. Ondrej and Angus were incredible hosts - the food was Michelin star quality, we had a variety of activities available at our finger tips and the Sauna and hot tub on site were a very welcome addition. |The glass cabins have the most amazing views of the surrounding islands, perfect for a relaxing few days. And the pillows and beds were very comfortable as well - each side has their own personal down comforter and the floor in the bathroom was heated. So dreamy. We'd highly recommend staying at Manshausen for a get away and to experience the stunning Norwegian lansdcape!

Beautiful little gem of an island just few minutes off the shores of Nordskot , north of Norway. The tour room was exceptional. Sitting in the well appointed little lounge with an unobstructed sea and mountain view, just as if you were floating on the water. The hiking and beach hoping were the two activities we chose to go for, but many other activities were offered by Angus, the very accommodating and knowledgeable mountain/sea/hotel manager I’ve encountered. The table at Manhaussen was a good one. From breakfast to lunch to dinner . The chef was particularly good in using seasonal produce to present some interesting plates of food. Enjoyed the way he worked the freshly caught fish, and his use of different techniques : infused oils, pressed veggies, fermentation . If you are looking for a place away from everyone and from everything with buckets of beautiful things to see then this is a place for you .

Wow! How can one possibly explain the beauty and excitement of this incredible place. The hosts were wonderful, the food incredible, the beds comfortable and the view....OH THE VIEW!||Pure magic is how I describe laying in bed watching the summer sky turn colors all night long. 100% worth missing a night of sleep!||We also did a canoe trip that was incredible. ||As vegetarians the restaurant catered to us wonderfully and every dinner was better than the last. ||I only wish we could have stayed longer. But, this is worth the trip!
