Mansion on Sutter

We had an amazing stay. This is a historic mansion with lots of history and beautiful artwork. The rooms are quaint but comfortable with modern bathrooms and amazing beds and linens. Breakfast is nice. The location is excellent for business or arts near the Civic Center. The area is clean, safe and nice - entirely different from the Tenderloin which is nearby. We enjoyed the restaurants in walking distance. Amanda was amazing and saw to all of our needs.

We got married at Mansion on Sutter in the beginning of 2024, and it was an amazing experience. The hotel is beautiful. Truly an experience like nothing else in the city. It is also CLEAN. When we did our initial tour I asked to see all the rooms to get an idea of the cleanliness overall as that’s super important to me and my family. It was perfection. The art collection throughout the hotel is a feature of its own and a delight to explore. My grandmother is a huge Erté fan and was in heaven finding his pieces all over. While they don’t offer formal wedding packages or have brochures (which would make the process a little easier) they were so accommodating and the staff themselves were amazing, making our 2-night buy-out and our wedding a dream. It was an intimate 20 person wedding and we all felt so at home. They happily and easily accommodated every little thing we asked for. They were so warm and caring for our guests, none of which had ever stayed there before. They took the liberty of putting a bouquet in each of our mother’s rooms which was so thoughtful. Amit was extremely responsive as we ironed out all the details (I planned it all myself so bothered him a lot!) and went out of his way to ensure everything went smoothly, they were appropriately staffed for each portion of our celebration, all the invoices and accounting was correct, and that we had a good time! He seamlessly dealt with our chosen caterer and 20 big personality guests. Amanda is amazing. Her warm welcome when we arrived at the Mansion for our initial tour made an impression that defined our opinion. My entire family fell in love with her, and she truly cared for us and celebrated with us. Her presence made a huge difference in our stay, and in our wedding experience. Weddings always have small things that go wrong, but we didn’t have a single issue that arose from the venue, which was amazing. We can’t wait to return to Mansion on Sutter and visit Amanda and Amit on our anniversaries to come.

Lived in SF for 10 years, this is a nice San Francisco feeling location with a great Italian deli across the street with beer and wine. 10 minute uber ride from downtown or about 20 mins on the 38 bus. Fairly centrally located for tourism but not in a touristy location.

I've stayed here on two separate occasions (Jardin room and Bay suite), don't forget there are 12 different rooms all unique and themed. Experience has always been wonderful. Great location and easy parking to find nearby. As soon as you enter inside this Victorian building, you can feel the history and service to welcome. What we loved: Clean rooms, soft beds, felt peaceful, rooms having their own individualistic style, Molton Brown bath products, and service has always been friendly and sharp. We have no complaints about this spot, it has been a beautiful hotel and service for us. Great for family out of town or a weekend getaway in SF. Again, great experience!

My mom raved about this place after traveling solo to SF to attend an event at the Asian Art Museum. Rooms were understandably a bit old, but the service was superb - special shout out to Amit who took really good care of her throughout her stay!

The best micro wedding + small conference + romantic get away venue in the Bay Area. This beauty is a best kept secret that should be blown up so more guests can enjoy the spotlessly clean sheets and rooms + customer service experts Amanda and Amit that anticipate your needs and seem to only say “yes of course” (an event planners dream) authentic history and art + better lattes than any other hipster coffee shop (and free) + central location with a Italian Deli across the street. Couldn’t have enjoyed our experience anymore. They were key in making my daughters wedding a smooth, fun and joyous occasion. We will be back!

My now husband and I chose to stay here for our wedding weekend, and we couldn't have chosen a more romantic and charming place. The hotel was absolutely gorgeous and the staff were incredibly kind and attentive. We arrived (without warning) with several crates worth of wedding-related supplies, and their staff helped us bring it all up to our room. The rooms themselves are gorgeous and unique. Our room came with an amazing soaking tub that we enjoyed the morning of our wedding and best smelling toiletries we've ever found at a hotel. Despite the level of excitement we felt for our wedding we slept beautifully. The handsome writing desk was the perfect spot for us to write our thank you notes to our wedding vendors. Not sure why some reviews claim there isn't a breakfast? While the breakfast doesn't include hot items, the selection was great and of very high quality - fresh fruit, sandwiches, coffee, pastries, and we left happy and full. We look forward to returning for our anniversary someday!

This converted mansion was cute as all get out, clean, and centrally located. The customer service was excellent, too. I got in extremely early, but since a room was ready, they let me check in so I wouldn’t have to linger in the lobby. I would definitely stay here again. Just a heads up if you’re looking for a place with a full restaurant and 24 hour room service, this hotel doesn’t have that, but it’s near so many restaurants that that was never an issue.

I didn't stay at this location but at at The Majestic which was lovely too The reason for the 5 stars was the caring concierge who helped my niece secure her vehicle when she parked on the street in front of your beautiful hotel. I parked there but when my niece showed up there were no more spaces available. Amanda was over and above kind and helpful. The next time I visit SF I will be staying at your property

Just attended a leap year wedding at the Mansion. Went into it thinking was going to be an overrated B&B. Boy were we wrong. Rooms were divinely comfortable, immaculate and well thought out. Bathrooms were impressive, clean and a joy to get ready in. The house itself is a pleasure to walk - admire the woodwork, artwork and craftsmanship from a time before. Amanda and Yash - two of the staff - went so far above and beyond their call of duty I cannot say enough good things. They're priceless. Thoughtful and kind. No one paid for this review - seriously one of the best stays we've had in years.

Lived my stay here. It's very personal. We were greeted and shown directly to our room. The room was great! Very comfortable. I was a little hesitant before I booked because I think it's a pretty old building, and sometimes places look nice in pictures but aren't as nice in person. That wasn't true here. I felt very comfortable and everything is pretty updated, even though you can still tell it's a bit older. The place is really beautiful. I do wish the lighting in the hallway was a little brighter, but not a huge deal. Oh and parking! A lot of places in San Francisco are expensive but also don't let you go in and out. So I appreciated having an assigned parking spot for a decent price and being able to come and go as I please.

We were married here 22 years ago before it was a hotel and were excited to stay here this past weekend to celebrate. Happy to see the charm and elegance of the Sutter Mansion remains with some really great updates. Our room was gorgeous and so well-appointed. The continental breakfast was decent (hope they get to open the restaurant and bar at some point). Location is great. We truly loved the personalized and welcoming service from all the staff. Everyone was so nice and accommodating. They really made us feel special. Hope we can stay again soon, as we love doing overnights in SF. I'd recommend a full-length mirror in the rooms. Not sure what another reviewer was talking about a bad smell. It was fine. Perhaps something happened on that date?

I was just at this absolute stunning Hotel for my Nephew wedding on the 29th The Marble Floors and Stained glass windows were gorgeous The Rooms were large and very comfortable, and spotless. The Service was fabulous, Amanda and Amit and Neil were the best, They worked great as a team and what ever you needed them for they were right on it. They truly could not of been better. Amanda, Amit and Neil were very kind and respectful. If I ever get married again I wouldn't hesitate to do it there. Rand

Service staff did all they could but this hotel is definitely not a 5 star hotel. I assumed from the high cost this was going to be a stellar experience... nope, no restaurant, no bar, no valet, and not a lot of restaurants in the area. Taj Campton is 1/2 the price for a much more supportive stay and sleep!

I booked two nights here for a new year's eve event nearby and can say they have earned every great review and hotel star. The staff are wonderful and I was given info about parking beforehand so I didn't have to stress when I got there. They have a lot with paid and reserved parking in the back. The hotel itself has such an interesting history and I love the amount of effort they put into the art decor and furniture used. The room was exactly as pictured, bed was so comfortable with all the amenities you need. We were greeted with a fruit plate and at night turn down service included chocolates, water, and light classical music playing on the TV. Everywhere you look there are beautiful objects, art and stone details that elevate the space. For a historical hotel, everything is in excellent condition. I was very comfortable staying here and would love to come back. I do hope they bring back hot breakfasts as the options we had during our visit included coffee and juice, a selection of cheese and cold cuts, strawberries, yogurts, and bagels.

amateur operation. for the cost you don't get amenities like a boutique hotel. I've travelled to many in other parts of Northern and on the east coast. it'a a shock that the breakfast is pre packaged. and that if you forget a small toiletry (think tooth brush, etc) they have none on site. I hesitated to stay here. but have the place a shot. I wouldn't come back. the experience is a high cost. and there are 3 other great boutique hotels nearby that offer great access to the city. this place needs to make systems easier for employees, rethink breakfast, and figure out its identity beyond the fancy lobby. the five star claim on the website is just that...an unsubstantiated self claim.

The website does Not do these rooms justice! We booked probably the smallest/cheapest room online and I was totally surprised to find a giant room with a deep bath tub, standing shower, (non working) fire place, large desk area, plush carpets, and one of the comfiest beds I've ever stayed in! The staff was very courteous. Also, GET THE BREAKFAST! When I compared prices of hotels I noticed this hotel had one of the cheapest breakfasts ($17)- it was fantastic! The coffee, avocado toast, everything was fantastic! The rooms also have an exfoliator, shower cap, sewing kit, wine, tablet to request things, heat/air conditioning. Two side notes: I was looking forward to fruit as seen below but we did not have that (only the bag of cookies and wine). Also the key is huge!

Amanda was beyond helpful and attentive. The mansion itself was beautiful, she was not only the sweetest person ever but she made our stay as comfortable and stress free as possible. THANK YOU AMANDA !!!!!!

I was surprised by this location in so many unexpected and cool ways. Attended a "Leap Wedding" here the end of February and my review should hold a lot of weight since I spent three nights here in two different rooms and honestly, everything was perfect. The mansion itself is a hidden gem with original stained glass, wood detail and ceilings from the 1800's. The history behind it is as neat as the renovation with freakin' Erté art hung about and a staircase that takes your breath away. The rooms are immaculate, the sheets are the whitest of white with down comforters and mattresses that actually don't make your back hurt. We requested and were granted early check in and late check out and now I need to mention the staff that was at least half the reason this place is so amazing. I will start with Amanda who was there at every turn for anything you needed, but never was in the way. She would slide in and out and was amazingly helpful, polite, considerate, intuitive and makes a great cup of coffee. Then there is Amit who seems to do everything in an understated way so you never feel like you're putting him out even though we were taking over the place and organizing a wedding. He was always one step ahead of us and honored even the smallest request with grace. It was the perfect location and we can't wait to come back. Some things to mention, tight parking in the back with only 7 spots and a small charge, but worth it. You get your own gate opener when you check in. Continental free breakfast every morning with fresh fruit, fresh coffee, pastries, etc. Short walk to Japan Town and cute restaurant right across the street called Limoncello. Really secure location with cameras, gates and locked access unless you are a paying guest. Beautiful lobby. Three stories and one of the rooms upstairs I stayed in had a great balcony.

This hotel is beautiful inside and outside. It was fully restored. The best location and they offer parking. Inside the mansion is beautiful. A work of art. Our room was decorated beautifully. They provide the best French towels and toiletries from London. The body lotion is awesome. The bathroom is stoning. The tub is beautiful. The provide a cool tv with cable also. The staff is limited duele to the Health Pandemic. But the crew will do their best to accommodate you. The concierge makes sure to open your door when you're coming in . The furniture is gorgeous. They make our stay very special.

I don't know how else to say it, this place smells so bad you think you might be inhaling poisonous gas. We literally went to a bodega to buy febreeze so we could sleep. I think it's just decades of soaked rat piss wood walls they'll never be able to mask... I mean, it's bad guys. The rooms were nice layouts and the overalll look isn't bad... it just smells... so awful. There's only 1 nice man with not great english running the entire show - valet, bell hop, coffee man, front desk reception, conceirge, it was all the same dude.

Be aware that one of their unique points is that each room is unique, and therefore go for different prices. The third-party deals you see online are for very specific rooms. Also, there is a painting in the bar area where, supposedly, one of the women in the picture moves. Besides the third-party deals, there's also the 20% Book Direct discount if you make reservations on their website or the 20% discount if you're a drop-in and do the Yelp check-in, though you can't combine these two. They have their own small parking lot, but it's an additional cost. If you're interested in the history of the house, the concierges are willing to take guests on a tour upon request. Mansion on Sutter, or the Payne Mansion/House, is a historical Victorian house built in 1881 (surviving earthquakes) and turned into a hotel and restaurant. While one of its major selling points is the history of the building as well as the painting and furniture collections, the amenities are updated, modern, and just really, really nice. I was in the Champagne Room and I appreciate that there were outlets EVERYWHERE. They have three floors with the dining, restaurant/dining rooms, and bar being on the 1st floor, rooms on the 2nd floor, and rooms and gym located on the 3rd floor. Please note that the restaurant (formerly 1881) and bar are not open, and the owners currently have the space up for rent for those interested in opening a restaurant. However, the hotel still has lunch, dinner, and free breakfast for guests. I had breakfast delivered to my room, and while I don't like their pastries as much, they make really good poached eggs. Overall, the long weekend I spent in the Champagne Room for a belated birthday trip was utterly luxurious. The guest service here is top-notch and super luxurious, and I love the amount of attention to detail they pay to guests. From specifically trying to lay out slippers on the side they think people will get up on, to a flower by your bedside, the free bottle of cabernet (or white wine, if you prefer), to putting on music for your return. Just super accommodating and it helped make this just an incredibly special weekend for me.

This is a wonderful boutique hotel that has the feel of a bed-and-breakfast. The staff are exquisitely attentive and professional. The property is meticulously maintained. The entry area is beautiful with detailed woodwork and hand carved staircase that goes to the second floor. There is a lot of original artwork throughout the facility. The room that I chose was relatively small but comfy and cozy. They have a turndown service every night at 5 PM and place some yummy cookies at your bedside. During my stay, they did not have a bartender on staff but we're more than willing to open the bar for me should I need it. Breakfast was served promptly at 7 AM. For my breakfast the first day I had French toast and eggs. They were top notch. The coffee is strong and robust, lacking in finesse but not offensive. Overall this is an excellent place to stay. Highly recommended!

We stayed here for our wedding for two nights Wed/Thurs. We fell in love with this hotel because of the unique and beautiful decor, and the photo opportunities that could be had for our wedding pictures. Everything was perfect - from the service, to the location, to the rooms. We were very happy we paid a bit extra to stay in at the Mansion. Each room had a different theme and name - we got the Juliet room which was a beautiful room with my favorite teal blue colors. The king size bed was super comfortable with quality sheets and linen. It was very spacious for the two of us! Tons of chairs and tables, beautiful furniture, and a big bathroom. Upon walking in the room, there were roses and complimentary wine for us. Love music was also playing on the TV. The keys were huge - they are hard to be lost! The details of this hotel was very impressive, loved every minute of our stay! Our family stayed next door in the corner suite, which is another beautiful room with king size bed and a pull out sofa bed. The hotel is also very dog friendly! We brought our little dog along with us to join us in the special day. There's no fridge in the room but a community one downstairs. We booked the room downstairs for our lunch and saw the beautiful bar. We took great pictures with it! They took care of the catering and set up the food on the room, while also providing utensils. They even asked a hotel next door to borrow a cake stand to hold our cake! They were flexible as we were running an hour late and allowed us to use the room an hour later than we planned. Location wise, it was super close to city hall ( less than 10 min drive), close to hotel Kabuki (my family was staying there, a few min drive), right across the street from our favorite Italian sandwich shop Limoncello, and many more. Plus the location is super safe and clean. That was the main reason why we chose this hotel. The streets were well kept and we didn't see anything suspicious during our stay, no homeless loitering in the front. The parking garage is in the back and is well gated. There were street parking available each time we visit the mansion, and my vendors was able to find street parking easily. Upon checking in, we received excellent service from Nina and Amanda (may have forgotten their names, sorry!). They took care of our luggage, looked out for us when we couldn't open the garage, etc. They were so kind and left a very good first impression of our stay. Amit was extremely helpful and worked with us to book an extra room for our family plus helped us reserve an hour downstairs. Omar was also super helpful and was attentive. He did the little things to ensure we felt welcomed and taken care of. Overall, we were very happy with our stay and would recommend the mansion!

Beautiful hotel. Totally unexpected. It used to be a mansion. They have done a great job upgrading and updating. It still maintains its beauty from the past.

I definitely want to leave a review and make sure this hotel is recognized for its extraordinary service and attention to detail. From the moment we arrived to check in, we felt at home. The hotel is pristine and everything is very well-kept. Special recognition is deserved for the staff, especially Fah, who took care of us like we were family. We stayed one night, and joined Fah downstairs as she prepared us professionally-crafted drinks at the bar and made great conversation with us. Although we checked out, we skipped the rest of the city and came back to the hotel bar to see Fah again for another amazing time. We were served at the bar and met some amazing people, and left with great memories and new friends. The hotel feels especially unique and personal. But what makes it extraordinary are people like Fah, and the incredible staff. Our best memories were made late at night at the cozy bar, and we will definitely be back expecting the same exceptional service! Dates visited: September 23-24, 2019

My stay here was absolutely AMAZING. I was greeted and taken to a grand room fit for a princess with lush cushion bedding. The room was filled with an array of treats from fruit, to house-made cookies, to a bottle of wine and a welcome letter addressed to me. The concierge encouraged me to take advantage of the spa-like bath, which I did of course. They have a small "work out" room which I took advantage of also. My stay included a complimentary breakfast which was delicious as well. Everything was absolutely amazing. And just when I thought my stay couldn't have gone any better, as I checked out, they handed me a parting gift bag with Voss water, house made assorted candied nuts and postcards of the beautiful mansion. Everything was superb. Con: Street parking but you have to wake up at 7am to move your car to a new spot to avoid getting a ticket. To be expected. You're in downtown San Francisco.

Boy did I love this place. My boyfriend and I stayed here during COVID last month for a staycation. We only spent one night but I wish we had stayed longer. It was so cozy and warm, even though it was a big mansion. The bar is not open during this time, but when we arrived in the room they had a bottle of rosé chilling for us. We had a lovely room with a faux fire place and a desk and a wonderful tub. I felt like I was in someone's home at an Airbnb instead of at a hotel. Definitely recommend this place for a romantic getaway.

This wonderful property is 160 years old and was converted to a hotel 60 years ago. However, it was recently renovated to real 5* condition in every respect. With only 12 guest rooms they have focused on personal service, even with reduced capacity due to Covid. It was far better than stat in a 300+ room in a busier part of the city. Kudos to all

What a glorious and wonderful weekend Lush beds, gorgeous rooms Almost a step into a frozen clock where time stood still if not just for a moment, a moment to catch my breath and absorb the beauty and ambience. A moment to relax and take time for myself and reflect on how amazing life is. The staff was so kind and helpful, making sure anything that was needed was delivered or given directions too. For a quick weekend getaway, these memories will last a lifetime

I really enjoyed my stay here! It's a pity the 1881 wasn't open as I was so looking forward to eating dinner at the mansion. Staying here was almost like staying at Downton Abbey. Walking down the grand staircase in the morning before we began our adventures was just like when Robert walked down for breakfast in episode 1 of the first season. Everyone paid such fine attention to detail and having breakfast delivered to our suite every morning was a treat. The owner of the mansion is very much a gentlemen, and I love how the staff greet you and say "welcome home" after a long day. We stayed in the Bay Suite and it was almost perfect. The only complaint I have about this room is that the windows are too thin as the room is located on the street. You can hear the trash coming by at 5 am! Not wonderful! I'm not sure if the city allowed better windows since this is a historic building. But I would definitely recommend staying here. Perhaps next time I just won't stay in the Bay Suite.

I stayed at the Mansion on Sutter and dined at its restaurant 'The 1881', the experience was absolutely wonderful, the room I stayed was cozy and filled with beautiful antique furniture and art! The staff at the hotel and at the restaurant were caring, welcoming, knowledgeable! Every meal on the menu is filled with unique flavors, I tried my first pheasant, I am glad I did, it was exquisite! Sweet tooth?! Try the Coconut and passion fruit for dessert! I loved the atmosphere and the beautiful art in the foyer, so romantic! At the bar the mixologist will blow you away with her creative and cleverly created house cocktail menu! For the cognac lovers, try the 1881;) I will definitely be recommending the entire experience to my loved ones! Bravo!

Very cute place. The service we received was excellent. Because of Covid, there was no breakfast, and the restaurant was closed, but they let us use the dinning room, and were extremely friendly and kind. I only give it a 4 because I thought they could have provided muffins, croissants, yogurt and fruit for breakfast. If I could give it a 4 1/2 I would. I would definitely come back. Can't wait to experience this place after COVID.

Absolutely gorgeous and unique place to stay in San Francisco. We were headed for an afternoon wedding, and the kind, attentive staff easily accommodated our early arrival. The room was lovely and immaculately clean, the bed was extremely comfortable, check-in and check-out were a breeze. Highly recommend!

So far so AMAZING! Laying in bed enjoying the plus linens. The customer service from the moment you walk in is amazing - makes you feel special beyond other places. It's a small hotel so expect attention. If you like to be left alone maybe not your place. WINS - fresh fruit and fresh baked goods waiting in your room - endless Voss water supply - l'Occitan bath products (!!) - complementary wine (I had a merlot / cab blend which was insanely yummy!!) - turn down service (fresh deserts too!) - slippers and plush bathrobes ...need I go on? I got a killer rate but think it has to do because they're new so snap it up while it HOT! You won't be disappointed.

What a lovely Hotel . The atmosphere is sublime I feel like I was transported back to the Victorian era. However the place has all the modern amenities one could possibly want . The staff is amazing Rani was so gracious I cannot wait to go back.

I haven't had the pleasure of staying or dining here yet, but we did grab drinks tonight and it was amazing. The interior designing and decor is beautiful and the drinks as well as the bartender were spectacular. The foyer is elegant and perfectly timeless with a pianist playing classical music. The beautifully hang crafted, intentional and thoughtful seasonal menu with ingredients all personally blended and made in house by the bartender. Sweet potato infused rum!? I can't wait to try all the drinks! As a neighborhood local, I am ecstatic about this place opening.

Thieves. This boutique hotel all they did was change their name to delete the 1 star review they had with their previous hotel name. Same hotel, same unethical behavior. If you book this hotel from a 3rd party website like Travelocity you pay Travelocity when you arrive to the hotel they will give you a bogus reason why they need to up charge the room for additional fee. In my case I brought my friend from CAL up to the room and they said if 3 people are in the room it's considered a party and they charge $250 per hour. I said OMG. I said I can't afford $250 and hour and forced me out To cancel my reservation. I think she had my room double booked-it was the biggest suite in the hotel. The issue is the manager told Travelocity that I cancelled and she kept my money. She didn't confess to Travelocity she tried to charge me more at check in. It was a mess.

Very pleasant boutique hotel with high-end finishes and great service. The lead concierge Amit was very accommodating. Our group enjoyed the piano in the lobby.

My husband and I chose to stay at Mansion On Sutter the day before our wedding day and a few days after (just before COVID started). This place did not disappoint! The details of everything here were simply breath-taking! And their staff were all so lovely! We will definitely be returning! We want to stay in a different room each time so we could admire what makes each one of them so beautiful and unique!

Absolutely beautiful! We stayed here on our wedding night. The room was beautiful all of the staff was incredibly accommodating and we had the best start of our marriage because we stayed here!

Small luxury hotel hidden just outside downtown San Francisco. Service is outstanding - if you need anything at all the staff is happy to assist and they manage to make you feel pampered without being overbearing. The rooms are also cozy and unique. There are only 9 in the entire hotel, and each one has its own special theme. We chose the champagne room and couldn't have been happier! Overall we were overjoyed with our stay and highly recommend Mansion on Sutter to anyone looking for a luxurious and romantic stay in San Francisco.

I stay in the city a ton, i had never heard of Mansion at Sutter and I was a bit concernced since it is a bit further away from the finacial district. This place is amazing, everything is just perfect! The decor is beatifully done, the staff is incredible and the rooms are beautiful! When I woke in a rush and went to grab breakfast in the resturant i was equally amazed at how elegant they made a simple avacado toast look (and taste!). My ONLY regret is that I can't give them 10 stars.

This is such a unique hotel. The decor is just elaborate and beautiful. My husband and I stayed 2 nights but will definitely go back when in San Francisco. The staff is amazing. Amit and Nina attended to our every need. So gracious and welcoming.

stayed here during the pandemic and the staff was extremely well prepared and accommodating. They were quick to respond to our inquires, and the hotel itself was absolutely stunning. Highly recommend this if you are staying in SF, service is much more personal and friendly than in large hotels. Incredible experience with Instagram worthy decor

The value of things going bad is one learns authentically who someone is and whether an establishment truly stands behind their purported values and branding. It is the only way real good can be known... through what transpires once an issue or problems occur. Such has been the case with my experience with Mansion on Sutter through Farhan and Amit. I arrived yesterday afternoon and was shown to a nice big sofa. As I sipped upon a glass of wine, the hotel registration was brought to me. Shortly thereafter I was shown to my room by Amit. Although a little small my room had such a cozy feel and was so lovely all I could do was like it very much. Amit was gentle in manner helping me with my suitcase until it was placed just so, opened and ready for me. His sincerity and humbleness were noteworthy. From this point I had several electrical issues within my room not only but including with the television all of which was inconvenient and frustrating as it took three interventions. Farhan (the manager) listened carefully to my frustration exacerbated by fatigue due to having flown in from a heavily delayed flight and having not eaten all day. When I had finished with my communication he said, " Isn't this frustrating?! I am so sorry, let's fix all this for you." And though Amit has a second portion down the street that he goes to after he leaves his position here, he came in to check on me. He kindly and calmly assured me the problems I had would be no more. This morning I left for a business engagement and when I returned I had been moved along with all my things to a new room which is utterly elegant, beautiful and sans any electrical issue. All of my things have been placed with care in the proper corresponding places in my new suite. Since I have been in a room and now a suite, I can say The Mansion on Sutter is an exceptionally beautifully interior designed boutique hotel. So impressed and grateful am I took the time to write this well deserved review before I head off to dinner. Thank you Farhan and thank you Amit for all your earnest efforts to turn bad into real good.

I reserved a one night stay for my wife and I to attend a performance of Hamilton. Amit was very helpful in setting up the reservation. When we arrived, we were greeted at the door by Amit. We sat in the parlor while he completed our registration paperwork for us. The hotel is beautiful; the woodwork, fixtures and stained glass is amazing. We were in the Corner Suite. I read a review that stated the Corner Suite was noisy since it faces the street. Because there is a second pane of glass behind the home's original glass and very thick draperies, I did not hear any street noise and I am a very light sleeper. My wife wants a mattress just like the bed in this room, so I guess I will need to find out the manufacturer's name. I also read a review where the guest complained about the heavy fob attached to the room's key. As you leave the hotel, staff offers to hold the key for you, but we simply detached the key from the fob and took the key with us. Every time we returned to the hotel, we were greeted at the door by staff, so leaving the key with them wouldn't be a problem. In the morning we were treated to fresh fruit and house-made pastries in the dining room. We also enjoyed bacon, eggs and a very light waffle. Everything about the Mansion is five star: the personal attention from the staff, the luxury appointments, the cleanliness and comfort of the room and the atmosphere of the hotel. We felt like we were the only guests staying there even though we did occasionally see other guests. I would definitely stay here again and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for something unique in a hotel.

My son booked this hotel for my grilfriend and I to celebrate our birthday's in San Francisco. What a classy and luxurious hotel! From the moment we walked in we were greeted by staff and concierge, who were welcoming and friendly. Staff members are very accomadating, helped us book & print our Alcatraz tour tickets and provided us with great recommendations on venues and travel destinations within and around the city. We stayed in the Corner Suite, EXQUISITE room!! We each had a flower arrangement (in house florist used) and Bday ballon to welcome us, Nice Surprise! ;) The attention to detail is seen all over the hotel from the outside gate (black and gold trimming) to the art decor in the bathroom. After we checked in we freshed up and left for a few hours to explore the city. Upon return, there was complimentary pastries. We had the opportunity to enjoy breakfast from signature Restaurant, the 1881. We had great experience! Can't wait to return.

This is one of my most favorite hotels in the world! Small, luxurious, and perfect service. The mansion predates the big fire) quake of 1906 and maintains it grandeur. Rooms are huge...our Bay Suite had a dining area in the turret and fireplace. Also, 2 bathrooms and the most comfortable robes ever! Bed/bedding was luxurious and comfortable. If you can do it, this is the place to splurge! Concierges are responsive, helpful, friendly and go above and beyond to help with special requests.
