Ma’ono Fried Chicken & Whisky Review - West Seattle - Seattle - The Infatuation

"In a city full of fried chicken, there are few spots that stack up to Ma’ono. This Hawaiian restaurant in West Seattle knows their way around crisped poultry, serving it by-the-bird as well as in tender or sandwich form, all in a laidback space perfect for a family-style spread with some pals. But if sharing isn’t in the cards, or you happen to be alone at the bar sipping a POG margarita slushie, Ma’ono’s iconic fried chicken bun beckons you. Shaken with spices as hot as you can handle and topped with chunky pickled daikon, kewpie mayo, and iceberg on a butter-toasted Hawiian roll, this expertly architected marvel of dredged poultry is sweet, spicy, and salty with an uppercut of vinegar—a pipe dream that newer fried chicken sandwiches in town should aspire to. And good enough to forgive Ma’ono for getting rid of their phenomenal kimcheese burger. On the side, the menu has tasty options like roasted corn with miso butter, spam musubi with nori paste, and kimchi-kicked mac and cheese. The dipping sauces (like hot honey mustard, kalbi, or hibiscus BBQ) that come with the chicken are outrageously good, and you should probably end things with their salted popcorn soft serve. photo credit: Nate Watters" - Aimee Rizzo

One of the top fried chicken sandwiches in town. Certainly my favorite. A small shop nestled within another shop Ma’ono focuses on chicken and does it right. The main dish is the fried chicken sandwich and it’s great. I can’t think of a better one in the city. I’ve tried a couple of the spice levels and they all came out perfect. Tasty breading and good use of spice. Not just hot for the sake of hot. Sauce balances things well. They have just a few other food options, so chicken is the point. I’ve tried the fries and they were quite good as well, so I’m confident their other sides would be nice. The price is premium. It’s a bit high for a chicken sandwich. But I say it’s worth it. Plus, the portion size is noticeably bigger than you’d get at a fast food chain. The price is worth noting, but I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you go for it. If you dine in person it’s a shared space with Rachel’s Ginger Beer. Gives you a great opportunity to add a tasty beverage. There’s a decent amount of dining space, open to the outside. But it may fill up on busy days. Luckily, there’s nearby tables to take your food if you need to. If you’d like an extra special chicken sandwich, this is the place to look.

I was surprised by how good this was! The chicken is crispy, moist and full of flavors. The restursnt stays open late, relatively to other U Village resturants which is fantastic. The service and staff were helpful, kind, welcoming and awesome to interact with. The "Extra Hot" version is extremely hot, even for us, Hot flavor lovers. I loved it, but be cautious. It is strange how the restaurant is located inside Ginger Beers, but those drinks goes well with the chicken. Our order took around 15-20 minutes to be ready.

Google
A bit strange and hidden inside the beer place so it’s difficult to find. The food however is very good. Probably one of the better chicken sandwiches in Seattle. Pickles are good, mac and kimcheese was teary. Love the Asian twist on things. Decent portions. Would come back.

Google
THE BEST CHICKEN SANDWICH Quick summary: chicken sandwich was 10/10 amazing, fries great, service OK, ambiance: great vibes. So I was visiting from Nashville and I'm a native Memphian so I'm picky when it comes to chicken sandwiches. This chicken sandwich was amazing. It was actually in my head just pretty good then I started dipping it in the house made ranch and it changed the game. Best ranch l've ever had in my life. My wife tried the Hot version and I had the Medium. Both of them were mildly spicy but that is relative. The fries were very well seasoned and good! There is indoor and outdoor seating. There's a beautiful view of the area outside and great people watching. One thing that was confusing, was that it's actually sharing its building with Rachel's Ginger Beer - you can grab a drink with your meal! The service is also pretty good. Friendly Definitely recommend!

The chicken is the best and SPICY! A problem…how to get some water to calm the spicy-ness? A pain! Sliders are OK. Just go for the tenders :)

I've always wanted to try Ma'ono! So glad we did! We were having a real fried chicken craving and decided to check out this location. At first we were a little confused because all our eyes could see was the big Ginger beer menu, then looked to the right and there it was! A tiny window for decadent fried goodies. We got the chicken sandwich and the drumsticks (hot) with an order of French fries. We grabbed our order # and enjoyed a blueberry bourbon ginger beer cocktail (very refreshing). The food was delicious! Chicken was crispy, very hot and very spicey. Seasoned to perfection. Three fries were crisp and lightly seasoned. I only wish we had a vegetable side. Only complaint is that the music was very loud, hence people were also speaking very loudly in there and all that noise made the experience less enjoyable.

Had wanted to try this place for quite some time. Opportunity arrived and we were very excited to receive the food. Huge disappointment awaited, unfortunately. The fried chicken flavor was not great and the skin was not crunchy. The chicken legs weren’t cooked all the way yet and the meat still pink, dripping red juice in one even. The pickles tasted very strong and harsh. Service lacking since the only available server was busy serving food and not be able to clean up tables. If you have a business model of self-serve, made available of trash bins and cleaning wipes for patrons at least. You also need to wait in two separate lines to order food and a simple soda.

Google
Hands down THE BEST chicken sandwich I’ve had in my life (not kidding). There’s something about this place… their fried sandwich is just *chef’s kiss* I always recommend Ma’ono if I’m in Uvillage and need a quick bite to eat, but I definitely want to stop by their other locations too!! You have to order the fries separately and the side of pickles, then get a drink from Rachel’s Ginger Beer while you’re waiting. I will say their chicken is definitely on the oilier side…it’s notttt the healthiest, but I guess we are talking about fried chicken here lol. I always order my chicken “mild” which still has a little kick to it, the perfect amount in my opinion. You can customize everything to your liking and add different side options. Definitely stop by if you’re in the area!

Yelp
We had chicken sandwiches and they were good. The fries were pretty good too. Right next to Starbucks in U-Village.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place, especially because the staff at Rachel's ginger beer is really sweet and the drink is good. I got the chicken sandwich with fries and a potato salad. But I'll start with the pros Pros: The chicken sandwich is actually pretty good and flavorful. The staff here are pretty friendly. Cons: I waited half an hour after ordering my food and people who ordered before me (3 groups) got their order first. After finally receiving my order (it appeared that the staff couldn't find my order at first), I took a bite of my fry and it was cold, stale, and salty.

Yelp
I don't know what happened but this place isn't what it used to be. Went for dinner and my husband and I were very disappointed. We walked right up to the window. There were only a few people there eating when we got there. Least busy I've ever seen. As we were ordering I noticed a bunch of tenders sitting out in the kitchen. They told us it was going to be about 10 min. When it took at least 15 minutes for our tendies to come out, I was relieved to be getting freshly fried chicken and NOT the chicken that was sitting out (for who knows how long?!) But when I bit into the chicken it was apparent that it was not fresh off of the fryer. It was warm at best. The spiciness level wasn't hot. Typically the medium hot is still pretty spicy. Not sure what is going on here, but definitely going downhill. The quality and the taste is not what it used to be. Sadly I won't be returning. There are far superior hot chicken restaurants in Seattle. Don't waste your time at this one.

Yelp
We arrived at lunchtime on a Monday. My teen enjoyed her sandwich and I thought my drumsticks were good, but greasy. The broccoli salad was a small amount for $5--and doused with cheese. Not bad, but I would have preferred more broccoli and less cheese. The Daikin pickles were great. My two complaints: The front door blocks access to the patio, so a woman with a stroller closed it to enter the patio. The ginger beer employee ran up and got huffy about it, wedging the door into the open position. God forbid someone with a walker or wheelchair want to sit in the patio. And...no beverages with caffeine? Some of us don't like ginger beer and would prefer a beverage with caffeine. To send a customer to the other side of the shopping place to go to Mr. West for coffee is nuts. (Starbucks is currently closed for renovation.)

Yelp
Super cool place! The Murals on the walls are really neat. Space is decently sized but was harder to sit a group of 5 of us. There's two ordering counters, one for Rachel's and one for Ma'ono. Everyone got the chicken sandwiches which were super yummy (the daikon pickle was soo good!). I got a medium spice level but it wasn't that spicy at all and i could def go up in spice but the sandwich was very flavorful. No one comes to you so to order you have to come to counter but if you're dining in they do bring it out. The night we went it seemed pretty busy but we maybe waited no more than 10-15 minutes after ordering. Would definitely come again if I'm in seattle area.

Yelp
The chicken was crispy and delicious. Seems like a solid place to get your fried chicken fix. The flavor isn't my favorite but it did have a bit of spicy kick to it which I liked!

Yelp
Delicious fried chicken in University Village!! This kind of unassuming chicken joint is located inside of Rachel's Ginger Beer. Order at the little window in the back corner of the restaurant. They have a concise menu of fried chicken in its many forms with a customizable spice level. The space is pretty small, but we were able to snag a table on a weeknight. Grab a ginger beer or a mule from the bar while you wait! The food came out hot and quick on a weeknight. The fried chicken sandwich and chicken tenders with ranch were juicy, spicy, and so delicious! I have never had a combo potato and mac salad before, and I thoroughly enjoyed!

Yelp
Ma'ono is like stepping into a time machine of flavor, with fried chicken stealing the show like it's the '90s all over again. The place is quite small but being inside Rachel's Ginger Beer feels like its always packed. We started with some French Fries, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Try them with the honey mustard dipping sauce. So so good. Now, onto the star of the show--the Chicken Sandwich. We went for the Hot Hot Hot heat level. Massive, crunchy fried chicken, nestled in soft buns and complete with a side of crispy lettuce and sauce. I felt my sweat glands activate but in a good way. The true star of the show was the chicken fingers. We got that "Hot". More jalapeno heat but perfect for the golden, crispy chicken fingers. I could eat this endlessly. Ma'ono is like a blast from the past in all the best ways. Whether you're down for a quick bite or a full-on feast, Ma'ono's got the flavor to take you back in time. And do grab some RGB to cool you down. Might seem a bit expensive but worth the experience, the flavor and the wonderful memories!

Yelp
Located inside Rachel's Gingerbeer at University Village. Ordered the mild fried chicken sandwich. Sandwich was well seasoned and hot. Inside had lettuce and pickles to help balance out the heat. Drink is the pink guava gingerbeer from Rachel's. Would give a 5/5 it is one of my favorite beverages.

Yelp
overall, i had high hopes for this place and while i was met with very friendly and helpful staff i had a few things to note. for the fried chicken sandwich, i found the meat to be a bit dense and therefore dry, perhaps not the right term for it, but i did find myself wishing that it was a bit more crispy and juicy. i did order almost the hottest level and was fairly warned that the hottest level was a no-refunds extreme heat experience-- so shying away from that i went one level down and found that the spice level was not even enough to prick my tongue (this is subjective as i would say i'm 8/10 good with spice and i enjoy somewhat spicy foods) i found the price to also be a bit high for what i got, even though the size of the burger's patty was fair, i still would consider it a touch expensive at $14 at the time (when a few blocks away you can get a better chicken sandwhich over at burger & kabob hut in udistrict in my humble opinion for $8) however, i do think that the flavors of the burger were present and the exterior was well seasoned and with that said, i do genuinely think that this type of fried chicken sandwich may suit some people's tastes as the spot has to be highly rated for a reason. speaking to the mac, i came here primarily because i was craving good mac n cheese in the area and was recommended this spot. overall, i did find the mac to be good and at a reasonable price! it was seasoned well and had a unique flavor. it tasted quite good and the touch of acidity from the kimchi added a nice depth of flavor to the mac and cheese. definitely a highlight of my meal and at a reasonable price for the portion size! finally, not at all a fault of the restaurants, but this spot is tucked away in the right half of an establishment that's shared with "rachel's ginger beer", honestly, i was a little confused where to line up when walking in and seating is a bit limited because the seats for rachel's ginger beer are typically reserved and the spot stays decently packed. i walked down to the shake shack to enjoy my meal in a nice air conditioned spot LOL. overall, i feel like i was a bit harsh with my review, but my takeaway is genuinely just that i wasn't blown away by the chicken sandwhich in terms of texture or spice level, and a lot of that could have been me setting my expectations too high. the mac however was excellent and definitely deserves a try! great seasoning and value there. overall: 7.25/10 taste (burger): 6/10 taste (mac): 9/10 price (burger): 7/10 price (mac): 9.5/10 going to round down to 3 stars for now, but i'm happy to give this place another shot, i had a pleasant experience overall with ordering, the wait time despite the crowd, and the presentation of my food. definitely would come back for the mac and to try the max spice level on the chicken sandwhich -- or perhaps to try their chicken and other menu items outside of the sandwich format :)

Yelp
The food here was tasty and came out pretty quickly. It was also reasonably priced. They do have a few vegetarian options too, which was nice. They also have Rachel's Ginger Beer too, which was good for options. The service was friendly and speedy and the ambiance was modern and relaxing.

Yelp
One of the best fried chicken sandwiches in Seattle. The chicken is perfect and fresh everytime at both locations. The fries all always great too. The mac could be a bit more creamy but it doesn't take away from the sandwiches! Goes perfectly with Rachel's ginger beer :)

Yelp
A reliable solid eat in U Village! Chicken is juicy & of nice size, and has a good amount of sauce / pickles / extras to add to the flavor. I appreciate that you can order in advance and pick up easily on a shelf inside the store front. Also has a large amount of seating with sharing space with Rachel's Ginger Beer, and has a really nice set-up of indoor seating that feels like you're outside (large window-doors that stay open on nice days that let in a great breeze). My go-to when I'm hungry and shopping in U-Village!

Yelp
I had to try this place out after going to Rachels Ginger Beer and spotting it. Me and my dad were in Seattle and looking for some lunch and decided to stop here after seeing it. It's a small spot connected to Rachels Ginger Beer locations, so you have to go inside another store to get to it. For this location there's a small walk up window that you order from, then they give you a number to sit down where they bring your food to you. I particularly like the combo of Ma'ono Fried Chicken and Rachels Ginger Beer knowing you can get food and enjoy a delicious drink in a great atmosphere. We ordered our meal for sit down, and it did take around 25 minutes but it was decently busy and they seemed to lack workers. The prices are pretty reasonable, and for the food I thought it was decent. The fries had an amazing texture and great flavor, I did think they were on the saltier side. The chicken itself seemed a little low quality, but the flavor with the sandwich combined made it taste great. The sandwich was also a little salty but overall I enjoyed all the food here. I really enjoyed my visit here and would recommend trying this place especially if your inside Rachels Ginger Beer.

Yelp
Ma'ono is always a solid, good portioned choice in U village that has quick service and good vibes. I ordered the BBQ pulled chicken sandwich because I wasn't craving fried chicken, and was really surprised at how juicy the chicken was and the BBQ sauce had fantastic flavor. I would HIGHLY recommend trying this underrated menu item. The fried chicken sandwich was very solid and a great higher-end choice over other options in the area. The mac salad was pretty standard.

Yelp
This is my favorite place to get fried chicken sandwich! Their spices range from naked to hot hot hot. Their sandwich is topped with crispy fried chicken breast on a butter toasted King's Hawalian bun with daikon pickles, and kewpie mayo. I do not recommend the hot hot hot since it is seasoned with Carolina reaper and ghost pepper. I ordered the medium chicken sandwich and medium drumsticks paired with white peach Rachel's Ginger beer, it was super delicious!

Yelp
I recently moved to Seattle, and between unpacking and getting settled I've been searching for the finest fried chicken sandwich this city has to offer. Ma'ono's hits pretty hard. A good amount of spice (medium gets me like ), plenty of pickles, and an amazing fluffy Hawaiian style bun. Their locations are tucked inside Rachel's Ginger Beer, which is a great pair with a hot sandwich. This is a great spot to meet a friend -- wide variety of drinks, plenty of seating, laid back atmosphere with good music. A tip for the chicken lovers: the strips have a much higher chicken per $ ratio than the sando

Parker B.

Yelp
The food is great, but they recently upped the price of one chicken sandwich to $16 with no sides. I get inflation is a thing but this is just too egregious and I can no longer justify returning here until it is lowered again. This was my favorite chicken sandwich in the Seattle area so it really sucks to see this happen.

Yelp
I went with a friend who's a huge fan of fried chicken sandwich. The sandwich was pretty good! I had the mild but barely felt any spice. I should've gone up to a medium...oh well, next time. I find it annoying that Ma'ono closes an hour before Rachel's ginger beer. And they don't even have the hours listed in the sign at the entrance! At least the hours at yelp is correct, but if my friend didn't point it out we would've missed out on the sandwich. I was worried also at first if the chicken sandwich may be too big as the one I had at Ooink was huge and it took me nearly an hour to finish. But that was not an issue here. I prefer the chicken sandwich at Ooink because it's definitely more bang for your buck and I found it more flavorful. But if I'm craving chicken sandwich and I don't want it to be too heavy, I'd choose Ma'ono.
google avatar

Sharon F.

Yelp
YUMM! Get the chicken tenders or the legs. It's so much more food than the sandwich, but cheaper! I get medium spice which is the perfect amount in my opinion! I also chose ranch - the other two dressings are good but they overwhelm the spices on the chicken. Skip the sides - they're overpriced and not that good. They share a store with Rachel's Ginger Beer. which happens to be the perfect pairing for fried chicken. The inside is cute and perfect to eat with friends.

Yelp
Stopped here for a quick bite on a business trip. I like fried chicken sandwiches and this was a little better than average but not necessarily the best I've experienced. Definitely hot and fresh, the spice was geared toward the middle of the market methinks so it will probably appeal to most other than people with a very sensitive palette. Recommended.

Yelp
ma'ono fried chicken & rachel's ginger beer at uvillage! the fried chicken sammie was quite a sapid refection if i do say so myself! the chicken was nice and crispy, and the pickled daikon was a nice addition. a bit too much lettuce and deduction for convenience of eating cuz it was quite thick and hard to eat! the white peach ginger beer was not peachy at all :| but the pink guava ginger beer was guava-y! overall 8.5/10 meal experience.

Yelp
The chicken sandwich and slaw are YUMMY. The fries are MEH...they need to switch to a better tasting oil for the frying process. The fries were nicely seasoned but they reminded me of something from BK. This place is in the corner of Rachel's Ginger Beer so you may over look it but DON'T. It tastes great and there's seating inside or outside on a nice spring/summer/autumn day. I went with a colleague and we had a kick ass time here!

Yelp
We've been to the one downtown in Amazonia but this one is more convenient with a large parking building. It's partnered with Rachel's ginger beer which is perfect to pair with the chicken. Rachel's is on the left hand side where you can order ginger beer, mixers and other fun drinks like alcoholic smoothies. The right hand side is where you line up to order the chicken. You can order your chicken at different spice levels if you like. We got the 3 piece drumsticks served with pickled daikon. The batter was nicely fried and the chicken moist. The pickled daikon was pretty good too. We were confused about the "hawaiian" BBQ. Being from Hawaii, we assumed it would be some kind of teriyaki sauce but it turned out to be just regular BBq sauce. Oh well, we liked the chicken anyway. Loved the crunchy batter

Yelp
Ma'ono is inside Rachel ginger beer. Good combo! Ginger beer and chicken! I've been wanting to eat here for some time and I'm so glad I did! I went with the chicken tenders and they are huge! 3 to an order and I only ate 2 and took the other one home. They were so good and there was so much chicken I couldn't even believe it. I think they are known for spicy chicken so I went with the mild. The mild still had a kick to it but dipped in ranch and it was just right. We were trying to figure out what side dish to get and wanted to try something different so the employee talked us into the Mac & Kimcheese. I was hesitant cause I wasn't too sure about Kimcheese. I'm glad I tried it but dang it was so spicy for my taste buds cause I'm a baby. The two bites I had were a good flavor but couldn't handle the heat. Took it home to the husband and he enjoyed it. Great spot for a group inside and the place opens up to the outside on warm days.

Yelp
I visited the U Vill location recently last Saturday. I'm from Hawaii so the fact that this was a "Hawaiian style fried chicken" joint got me excited. I ordered the chicken pieces, fries, and potato salad. All were subpar. The batter on the chicken was thick and doused in a spice akin to cayenne pepper -- again, nothing wrong with that, but far from Hawaiian flavors. The potato salad -- I assume was supposed to be a rendition of Hawaii's staple mac salad, but it was flavorless and had a really odd/unpleasant texture to it. I barely ate a few bites of it. The fries were good and basic- splashed with more cayenne pepper. The "hawaiian bbq sauce" was more like a Texan bbq sauce. I'm not picky with my food by any means, but Ma'ono is confused about what "Hawaiian style" means. Nothing about any of these dishes were that. To top it off, by the end of the meal, there was a long strand of hair in my chicken batter. I was going to let them know (and I really should have since I typically do if I find a hair!) but that day was SO hot and we were sitting at a location apart from Ma'ono, and along with the disappointment of the meal, I was just done lol. My friend and I agreed that we'd never eat there again bc there was just nothing good/great about it. But we'll definitely be back for Rachel's!

Yelp
I was just in university village doing some shopping, then I stopped at Rachel's ginger beer for some beer. Then I saw a long line for this place. This chicken place is inside the Rachel's ginger beer shop. I right away went for fried chicken tenders. The menu is compact but good. You can choose the sauces and spice levels. I like the taste but I felt the chicken tenders were super thick. I would like to see some chicken nuggets, then I would definitely get those. May be next time I will try the burger.

Yelp
Customer service here is bleh and my Hawaiian BBQ chicken sandwich wasn't that tasty. The ginger beer at Rachel's Ginger Beer is good so I'd probably only go back for that otherwise not going back for Ma'ono and I don't recommend it.

Yelp
Great place for chicken and fries if you want a delicious snack!! Inside a drink place that doesn't serve food so it's PERFECT

Yelp
One of my favorite chicken sandwich places. The sandwiches are always crunchy and taste and the chicken tenders are GIGANTIC. They're usually quick with their service and it's also a place to study.

Yelp
Looking for lunch and checking out the U-Village, Ma'ono sounded real good. The idea of a spicy chicken sandwich sounded great. I got the sense that this place gets hit pretty hard with customers, probably particularly around lunch time. I waited around not realizing there is a bell to summon someone. There wasn't a sign I could see, and no one was at the counter at the moment. A lady came up and took the order. She was friendly enough but seemed to be feeling the rush of orders. So, after a few minutes a couple of mild chicken sandwiches were in order. I stuck with Medium just to get a feel for how spicy it is and be able get the actual flavor of the sandwich with a bit of a kick. Medium is described as "generously seasoned with cayenne". Very good but I think one thing should be removed. The good is the actual size of the cutlet/breast is pretty decent. It exceeded the size of the bun which is good and was seasoned ok, I feel it actually could've used more spice. Perhaps I should have gone with "hot", but that would mean habanero. The daikon pickles were actually pretty good as I don't really care for pickles and often ask for their exclusion. They have a nice tangy taste adding to the flavor of the sandwich. The Bun has a slight sweetness because it's Kings Hawaiian. So what's the one thing? The Iceberg lettuce. I like Iceberg lettuce, just not here. It got everywhere basically but in my mouth with the rest of the food. It's constantly falling out, taking the kewpie mayo with it. I think a single large piece of lettuce would be better. It's really kind of a waste, then you end up needing a fork because it falls out into the container. If they ditch Iceberg, I think the sandwiches will improve. The Mac & Kimcheese was great. Somewhat shareable, but if you're like me, and love even regular mac & cheese you won't wanna share. This is very good, seasoned with garlic salt and scallions. Very nice combo'd with the sandwich. I'd try another Ma'ono for sure, maybe even take the spice level up a notch.

Honestly this chain has become my favorite go to. For a person that likes spicy and is usually disappointed in spice levels, this place out beats me completely. I would recommend getting a level lower than you think you can handle. They have been very spicy in my experiences. This time I just got the tenders and my friend got the sandwich. The sandwich at least hides some of the spice with the bun and lettuce but the fingers do not! Oh also their pickles and sauces are amazing too!

Yelp
After tonight's experience, finally decided to call it a loss after giving Maono a handful of tries. After reading the reviews we've gone here for a quick bite and drinks and honestly the quality and service has gone down hill. A few months ago we went here and saw they had run out of chicken. And surprisingly nowhere near the time of closing. A month before that, the strips were really dry. The time before that, the fries a served cold. But continued going because it was quick service for a chance at well seasoned chicken. Tonight was all service. Couldn't even make it to the eating part! We walked in and it was a pretty slow night. Everybody looked like they either got their order or has already ordered and waiting for food. No line! Got up to the kiosk to order and saw a handwritten sign to order via DoorDash on the tablet. Was in the middle of downloading the app, and saw two guys approach the line and ended up ordering from the kiosk, we lined up and as soon as she started ringing up the first person... then she rang up the 2nd guy and when it was our turn, walked away as we approached again to order. Thought "oh maybe she'll come back" since she saw us. Stood there for a couple of minutes as her and another employee walked back and forth past us. The kiosk was still facing us so I wasn't sure if we were supposed to enter in our orders or what? So I got to the part where our orders were on the screen ready to pay but waited until til acknowledged... But the same lady that took the two other peoples orders had to bring an order out and as she walked behind us had the audacity to walk by behind us and say "Well that's not ordering online" and continued to walk back into the back. There is a door bell to ask for service... but do we really need to press the button if you were already serving/ringing up two others before us? Do we need to press the button when you've walked by us 3 times after? Clearly they're not pressed for business, so we just took ours elsewhere and definitely didn't need to order online when there are people working the place.

Yelp
The service is terrible. I have a pickup order and the eta was 1:10 then 1:15. I have now waited over 30 min and still no food. I've ordered from here before and it has never taken this long for a pick up. I don't mind waiting but get your delivery system to work effectively and accurately. And to add insult to injury they placed the bag under the wrong letter on the rack that's suppose to let people know their order is ready. I gave all this feedback to the person at their order window and it was not well received.

Yelp
Before today's visit, I probably would've given Ma'ono 5 stars. The spice level is usually great but today I got my usual (medium) and it wasn't spicy at all and flavor was a bit of a letdown. I usually get the chicken sandwich but got the tenders instead since it's significantly more chicken. This may be an unpopular opinion but I actually prefer the chicken sandwich even if it's more expensive. The flavors go so well together whereas the tenders is just a bit plain. I also tried the broccoli salad which was just okay and quite a small portion for the price. Overall, I was a bit letdown today but now know to only order the chicken sandwich. Also love that its right next to a Rachel's ginger beer so you can get a refreshing drink!

Yelp
Honestly the food is just as good as I remembered. The workers were nice and helpful. Although it took a minute for the food to get out it wasn't long and it was hot and fresh!! You want a good hearty chicken sandwich come here !!! The environment is welcoming & has a bar. You see it right when ya walk in and seating through out the food place.

Yelp
Check takeout order before leaving. Food was ice cold. This place is mostly a miss with regards to food safety. Undercooked food. Total bust. Def avoid.

Yelp
Messy food is good food! We stopped any after our dental appointment and got the fried chicken sandwiches (med spicy) and fries. The sandwiches were huge! Each sandwich had a large piece of chicken with their house made pickles and lettuce. I had to take a moment after the first bite. It was so good! The chicken was crunchy and juicy. It's a bit of a mess to eat but worth it. Their fries are pretty good too! Pair it with a Rachel's ginger beer to round out the meal. Service is in Rachel's Ginger Beer cafe. There's a little service window in the back right corner. You put in your order, take a seat and they'll bring your food out for you. Service was quick for a weekday lunch.

Yelp
My first visit was to the downtown Seattle location which I found better than this UVill location. Chicken here was just dry. I had to soak my chicken in sauce to finish it simply because it was so rough. Came around 6:30 PM and it wasn't too busy so I can reason to myself that maybe the chicken was sitting for a while. To be fair I did get my order pretty fast (chicken fingers) whereas my friends took longer (drumsticks). One friend who came for the first time noted that the drumsticks were comparable to grocery store drumsticks. He did opt for mild but simply because he had no expectations. He also said he would get medium next time. I did get medium and I enjoyed the seasoning along with the crispy, crunchiness, but that wasn't enough to sway me. Another thing to note is that the chicken sandwich is pretty mediocre at the price point. For $11 you can get a sandwich that's slightly above Chick-fil-a but worse than other places like Popeyes. But then you could compare quantities, would you rather eat one "above average" sandwich or multiple mediocre (if that's what you think) ones? Overall I've been disappointed at Ma'ono both the downtown location and the UVill location. The hype might play a factor as it creates expectations and if it doesn't live up to that hype, that's a big hit. There's been some variation in my chicken so hopefully if I return, I have a better experience.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick bite and ordered the fried chicken sandwich along with a side of broccoli and Mac and cheese. Pleasantly surprised, the chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside but still moist on the inside. Also really enjoyed the broccoli and Mac and cheese.

Yelp
Fast service, nice interior, right next to Rachel's Ginger Beer! Food was pretty decent, the sandwich was definitely the highlight. Fries and Mac and cheese had great flavors too, though I wouldn't say the Mac and kimcheese really blew me away (kimchi flavor wasn't quite there). Also for these two items and tip, it came out to $20 which is a bit overpriced imo. Would still come again

Yelp
They're onto something here. Dropped in around dinner time when everything in Uvillage had a good wait time. You order food at the counter and they give you a number. Opted for the sandwich and partner order the tenders, and we shared Mac salad and fries. The chicken was tasty! Crispy, seasoned well, and moist. I'm a big fan of pickles and their daikon pickles are awesome. Fries were done right and Mac salad was tasty as well. But honestly, I don't know if the sandwich is worth the price, when you could get the three tenders for less (comes with pickles too). The bbq sauce is good and the hot-honey mustard was a pleasant surprise, the "hot" is a wasabi-like kick which I personally enjoy. Drinks were great too, as I'm a big fan of mules so mixing and matching my favorite spirit to a ginger beer flavor is genius. I will say there should be some sort of quality check, one of the chicken tenders was straight up naked. I mean how does that ever make it in the box? I would come back though, you should too!

Yelp
Hands down BEST fried chicken sandwich I have ever had. I have been dreaming about it since we left. Can't wait to go back eat another sandwich and that kimchi Mac and cheese! My goodness it was so delicious!

Yelp
Location is inside Rachel's Ginger Beer tucked away in the back right corner. Might not be the easiest to find here, but if you're at the University Village and hungry, search it out. The locals know what I'm talking about as they walk by commenting how great the chicken is. And they aren't wrong. The chicken is breaded, fried, and flavored to perfection and it's one of the more juicy hot chicken places you'll find. Plenty of seating inside and a few tables outdoors if the weather is nice.

Yelp
I can't believe I'm saying this (since I'm from Texas and love my meat), but I actually think I like the vegetarian version of the chicken sandwich better than the chicken version. *gasp* are pigs flying?

Yelp
Three fried chicken tenders for $10 (drumsticks were sold out by the time I arrived). The chicken was breaded and fried well to a good consistency. the spice was just powder over powder though and didn't really go in the chicken. Got hot honey mustard on the side which complemented well.

Yelp
Probably more like a 3.5/5 I tried to order medium spicy chicken sandwich ($13) but they ended up giving me mild when I collected my order. I didn't bother asking them to fix it but I think it definitely would've been better spicy as it didn't have any outstanding flavors. The chicken was pretty good, crispy, and juicy though kind of small for the bread as there were definitely many bites without any chicken. The sandwich also had shredded lettuce, mayo, and pickled radish inside. I enjoy the twist of pickled radish since I love them and hate regular pickles but they were very thick cut. The lettuce and mayo was kind of giving McChicken vibes as others have said but it wasn't bad. Overall a decent sandwich but I feel like it's overpriced considering it's just a fast casual place and I'd probably prefer just a popeye's chicken sandwich over this in all honesty.
