Marcela

"Marcela boasts an outstanding location just a few metres from the Museo Casa Botines Gaudí. It features two dining spaces: an informal tapas option on the ground floor and a sophisticated dining room upstairs. The cuisine here is based around ingredients of the highest quality, and includes a tasting menu." - Michelin Inspector

Enjoyed the experience but given its reputation on both Ripsol and Michelin it was a little disappointing. The great service and beautiful room did make up for the good but ordinary food. If you are looking for a top food experience this is not the place for you.

We carefully selected this restaurant reading the reviews. And a Michelin notation 2024 to top it off made us decide to reserve a table and enjoy a good dinner. We ate in the restaurant on the first floor which was very empty around 20:30 pm. But even at 22:00 pm the locals didn’t arrive. We were disappointed in the quality of the food, in taste and texture. Very special bread was offered with a whole explanation of its origin but they did end up charging €4,50 for it. If you charge, make it optional. You could serve a much smaller portion instead of the whole bread and not charge for it. The fish was frozen even though the menu described the fact that they could only serve certain fish because of its availability at the market that day. (Bonito tuna and monkfish). The waiters were very busy communicating with each other by earphones but not too involved with communicating with the customers. They seemed stressed and not very happy to be serving people. Little effort was made to explain dishes: it was turbo Spanish (and I understand and speak Spanish) or poor English. So, Marcela and co, you pretend to offer a high quality dinner with excellent service but it just wasn’t good enough. A little more TLC “tender loving care” in the food and service would help a lot.

An absolute No Go. Started at 8.30 pm I didn’t get an aperitif offered and had to ask myself. The same for wines with the dish. I got the wine list after the main course was served. As no open wines have been offered, I did not drink any wine in this restaurant, despite the Cava in the beginning. The staff was completely incompetent and didn’t speak English. The worse was the main dish, Monkfish nearly raw and without any asides. When I complained they took it back, to serve the same plate with the same piece of raw fish again just five minutes later. At this moment I left the restaurant. No idea why Michelin is classifying this most awful restaurant I’ve ever been to!

People was nice, our food was good, but nothing I would like to find something original or at least more tipical from Leon. Additionally and the reason a I gave just 3 stars it's because in the restaurant floor there's was some issue with the doors and every time people use it, they crashed doing a annoying sound. I was at August 2021 I talked about this with waiters and they tried to do something, but I think this is owner's responsibility.

Decided to book since it is recommended by the Michelin Guide. Don’t understand the recommendation albeit the wine list is extensive and service is great. We had the Tartar de Bonito to start with, which just tasted like Worchestershire sauce, really terribly acidic. For mains we had the Secreto Iberico and Bonito del Norte. The Secreto was dry, and tasted like it was marinated and grilled with ketchup/cheap bbq sauce. The Bonito was bad, like the fish had gone bad, which probably explains the Worchestershire sauce to cover the smell in the tartar. The service was exceptional, wine was amazing and atmosphere great. It just looked like the head chef doesn’t care about the quality, which shows.

This is a beautiful, upscale place. I popped in here for a light lunch. The food options are different but tasty. The service was prompt and friendly.

Absolutely incredible service and food. Our favorite place in Leon so far. Beef Wellington and the strawberry mascarpone dessert were totally off the charts. Great service from Josue and co in the comedor.
