I have been going to this pizza place for 27 years!! They have excellent pizza and a great space to enjoy it! Please, enjoy a slice and the people who work there.

I absolutely love their Pizza! The chef made half cheese and pepperoni for my grandson and he made half light sauce, feta cheese and basil for me. It was absolutely delicious the crust is so crisp and light it's wonderful and I love their pizza sauce as well. It's a small place, pizza by the slice or by the pie, directly across from the Castro theater. In my opinion it's one of the little gems here in San Francisco The new photo is a crisp thin crust, light sauce with red bell pepper, broccoli, green onion and rosemary... Mmmmmmm. Simply the best

I love Marcelo’s Pizza. Not only is it conveniently located for me. It is located in the great neighborhood of the Castro. Their slices are on the pricier side but when you buy a fresh pizza…yes, yes, yes. It fulfills me in so many ways. I usually take pizza to go or order delivery. I am not a fan of dining in. It is not a restaurant.

I thought the pizza was great until I found a strand of hair in my slice. The place is very dirty, I saw a lot of roaches when I came in. The service is extremely rude especially that tattooed chick who screamed vulgar obscenities at me for asking if they were still serving.

Always sold out of the pesto pizza! Get there fast. Great petite pizza spot. Perfect for a late night snack grabs on a Saturdays (if you know what I mean!) Best part; never fails on taste, quality, and speedy service.

The pizza is on the verge of cardboard, the service is terrible, they screamed at my friend for asking if they were still serving (the door and gate were open and pizza was still sitting in the warmer). Save your $9 per slice instead of throwing it in the trash.

Great pizza! SOoooo glad I stopped in!! The very nice young woman at the counter heated the combo slice & removed the onions (I said beforehand I didn't care for & would remove myself). The flavors & crust were EXCELLENT!!! Later, her & the male cook had a disagreement that was intensifying. I interrupted it & told him his words & volume towards her were inappropriate. She left a short time later. He apologized to me for the behavior & stated they're longtime friends & argue like siblings. The owner can look into this later 😉 I will come back again for the pizza 🍕🍕🍕

At the time of this writing, there are four places to get a slice of pizza in the Castro, plus two other places that only offer whole pies. I've tried them all (cheese and veggie slices), and since Escape From New York sold their Castro location to another pizza place, Marcello's is my favorite. Not to slag off the other choices, but overall Marcello's slices have the thin crust I like and the tastiest sauce, and lots of specialty combos to choose from (I like the Greek combo veggie special). Not quite *Great* but I have no complaints about the product. One suggestion (and I hope the management reads this). I realize this is 2025 and everyone conducts business on their friggin' phone, but it would be nice to have a COMPLETE menu in the shop either on paper or on the big board behind the counter so when you want to order a whole pie or something that's not on the partial menu that's shown up there on the board, you can do so on the premises without having to look up the menu on your phone. I almost ordered from home for pickup, but even the online menu only shows prices for small size pies, and not prices for medium, large or family size pies. The friendly counter person told me to look up what I wanted on my phone, and even after doing so they had to look up the different prices based on size of pizza. It's way more cost-effective to get a large or family size pizza and share it or have some left over the next day, so I got a large pie and it was big enough to give away three slices to some hungry homeless people on the street and take the rest home for myself. So yeah, please just print up some nice big menus on card stock and laminate them so a customer can walk in and figure out what to order without fiddling with their phone and then having to ask the clerk for more detailed pricing info on the checkout terminal. Love your pizza, thanks a bunch...

The Pesto Mushroom Slice was the real star. Any pesto pizza from Marcello's is a must-try, and this one was no exception. The combination of pesto and mushroom was unique and finger-licking good. Pro tip: These slices sell out quickly, so don't miss your chance. Pair your slice with their homemade ranch--it's so good, it'll have you slam dunking every bite. If you love pizza, Marcello's deserves a spot on your list. It's not a hangout spot, but it's perfect for a quick, satisfying slice, especially if you're craving something late at night. Don't sleep on the pesto slices--and definitely grab some ranch to take it to the next level.

Pizza is good but the service is just the worst. I've been coming here for the last 15 years and it's good for late night munchies after the bar. But for some reason they hire the most obnoxious people. They act as if you're asking them to go above and beyond their job description. 2 stars because of service. Hire better people owner.

Conveniently located in the heart of the Castro, open 7 days a week and open late (by San Francisco standards). If you want a quick meal without a full restaurant experience, this will do you. But comparing this to NY-style pizza or actual NY pizza will be disappointing, so just be thankful you're not eating 7-Eleven pizza instead. Though stick to the thin slices since the Sicilian slices are horrible and should be avoided at all costs! I was close to giving this place a solid A-OK (3-stars), but that Sicilian slice was a 1-star experience, hence the 2-star average. Cheese Slice: It's $5 for a slice while a similarly sized and much better tasting slices can usually be found in New York City for $3. It's not a bad a slice or anything, it's just not great. It was partially cold, even after they put it in the oven to reheat. And the dough seemed a bit thick for it's style. But there was a decent amount of sauce and cheese. It did the trick for filling me up when I was a little hungry. Pesto Potato Slice: A rare find, but a must try when they do have it stock. Something so hearty about carbs on carbs. I'm normally a red sauce guy, but the pesto mixed with red potato slices is just magical. Plus tons of cheese. Pepperoni Sicilian Slice: Potentially the worst Sicilian slice I've ever had! It seemed like they baked the dough separately, added some sauce and cheese and did a quick re-bake. I strongly suspect this is what they did since under the sauce was a browned bread top. Also, felt overly dry. Like seriously, even frozen pizza is better.

Don't sleep on the pesto mushroom slice here! I unfortunately have a stupid tomato allergy, so I'm always looking for some white or pesto pizza. This slice was so tasty, crispy crust bottom, and perfectly chewy crust. The service was quick and friendly. Again, break out of your pepperoni norm and go for the pesto slice!

If I was closer to Marcello's, this would be my go-to pizza place We had the regular thin crust and Sicilian option. Regular was exceptional. Their ranch is delicious, as well. Great people watching, great seating

A great place to stop by for a slice of pizza if you're ever craving it and around the area! My friend and I popped in after our soulcycle class and we both got the pesto mushroom pizza and it was delicious! The slice is huge, there is a good amount of pesto sauce as the base and also they heat it up for you when you order so when you eat it, you get the most insane cheese pull. The pizza is just a tad bit greasy for my liking. And it's also a bit expensive for just a slice of pizza ($7.25). I would come again only if I'm really craving it or in the area, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to get this.

Marcello Pizza serves up NY-style pizza with a crust that strikes the perfect balance between tender and crunchy. It's definitely worth ordering again. $7 a slice. It's okay pizza. Also, could swear that the price on the menu board was under $6. And when we asked for a receipt they "couldn't find it" It was a busy day so maybe I need to give them another shot.

This pizza was better than I thought it would be! Thin slice, flavorful, generous portions for a single slice. They also have the perfect people-watching windows to sit at and munch for a while. The staff was friendly!

Real good pizza spot. Allegedly a classic spot according to my castro correspondence. Ranch was only 60 pieces, amazing for this economy. Its a whole buck fifth (1.50) at. Nice decor top real radical. Only missing a star for lack of water cup and bathroom.

Great food, but ever since dropping their own delivery and relying instead on the apps, service is poor and pizza is cold. After 15 years of almost weekly orders, I'm done. Bring back real service!

Even though the pizza was good and the prices were average, I didn't like the way the cashier did his job. I think he didn't understand what I was saying and decided to pretend that I didn't ask for anything. Also, they don't provide a glass of water for the customers, and they don't offer anything instead, even if you have to pay for it. Lazy work = customers will find substitutes because there are many places with better pizza and service.

First off, the pizza smelled and looked amazing. The problem was that when the slice was picked up, it could not hold its own and drooped down. At that moment, I knew the crust wasn't right and the pizza was soggy from the center out. I had to put it in the air fryer to get the crust a little crisp. Taste was okay, remind me of the Costco pizza when they had the combo but except this had a thinner crust. Not sure if I'd buy a pizza again for dinner, but this place would work out great if you had a late night and are craving a pie.

There are many choices, but these are the best slices in the Castro. Thin crust NY pizza is served here and the square is as well. Nice people work here.

Just too hot, and been hankering for one of their make it your way pizzas. The dough is so delicious and really flavorful, and serves to support some delicious and wonderful ingredients. And they have Hot Dogs and more. Truly a neighborhood treasure! Enjoy!

I've been going here off and on And the pizza is still decent but the prices are just way up there and the slices are smaller than they used to be. I mean it shouldn't cost $13 to get two slices of pizza and a drink.

Outstanding service, because you cannot split a pizza into two kinds of sauce or two kinds of toppings anywhere else. Only Marcello's has ten pizza sauces to choose from. Only Marcello's lets you split a large pizza into two types. You can't split a pizza order through any food delivery app - they won't allow it. But you can split a pizza to order by phone to Marcello's, and you must pick up the order. Some things are simply better in person!

I love their SanFranPesto Pizza. They really have the best pizza - closest thing to New York pizza I have found here. Worth traveling to the Castro for.

Marcello's offers two different crusts, regular and Sicilian. Unless you really like a super thick crust (think "focaccia"), choose the original. The Sicilian crust was just a lotta lotta bread. I could barely taste the delicious, quality toppings. Live and learn. This legacy business has been serving up great pizza for more than 30 years. Marcello's is an important piece of the neighborhood handily positioned not just across the street from the gem of all movie palaces but nearby all the nightlife. So, if you need to soak up some high ethanol libations and want to grab a slice or a whole pie, Marcello's is tops. (Just get the regular crust, the Sicilian is just too much bread, trust). They now accept credit cards. It used to be local checks and cash only.

Some of the best simple pizza in the city! The crust is substantial with slight chew but not too thick/dry and the price is right for the portions that you're getting. They do not skimp on the cheese here and the flavor profiles of the pizzas are on the basic side, which is honestly hard to find in Sf and done well. I took off one star because the overall flavor of the pizza could be slightly more seasoned, but if you're a simple food lover, this is absolutely the pizzeria for you. I love coming here when it's later in the night since parking can be a pain. I also like the seating here, if you're a larger person, you may find it cramped but if you're an smaller introvert, the seating will be perfectly private. Now for pizza crust comparisons... I would say the crust is like a fancier Costco crust (which I think is a compliment). The crust is similar also to Long Bridge but the toppings here are less flavorful. The Marcellos crust is definitely more substantial than the slightly undercooked chewy crust of il casaro, way softer than the crunchy/dry little star pizza. If you're looking for a simple, large slice of basic pizza late at night, this is the spot for you!

Located in the Castro is this pizza shop that has room to sit or even just pick up. Some slices are ready to go, they have Sicilian (thicker square pizza), all variety of pizzas, chicken wings, and sandwiches. We stopped by on a Thursday night, they're open late and for some slices they heat up for you. 1-2 slices are good. I got the veggie, my friends got Sicilian pepperoni, and we ordered Buffalo wings that took about 15 minutes but we're super fresh. Perfect if you want to pick up something quick and they're open late in the Castro.

Definitely the best pie by the slice in the Castro....i mean of course when you're talking about pizza by the slice it presupposes we're talking about NY style pie....and Marcelo's is pretty spot on. Of course it's better when you get your slice within a reasonable amount of time after it's come fresh out of the oven (like right now...I'm o ly Here cause the Chinese food I had was not very good and just needed something else to make me feel like I had a decent dinner). But generally it's very very good all the time. The crispness of the crust is usually perfect. Always a decent cornicione (the other places on Castro don't!). And the sauce is absolutely perfect. Can't stand places that over-spice their sauce. And of course the cheese is good and just the right amount. . Never ordered a full pie only ly slices. Here working on the Castro restoration....wish they opened earlier than noon though....we do lunch at like 11:00 so I'm generally sol for getting a slice for lunch. Prolly a good thing cause if eat it everyday lol.

BEST, Best, best, best!! ALWAYS AMAZING! When I came to the city 28 years ago, 18 years old, Marcello's instantly provided comfort, not to mention a job! Anne, Lucre, Sara, Casey, Priscilla, Ronaldo, made this home for me. A daily stop anytime we visit for sure!

This spot was recommended to me since #1, it's pizza, which I LOVE, #2, just outside Castro Station and next to Rossi's Deli! I went there hoping for a Hawaiian slice, which I of course got distracted and didn't ask if they don't normally have, but they did have a Sicilian style hawaiian. I am not usually one for that style of pizza and am a hardcore NYC style pizza person, sorry. Although I am not a huge fan of that style I will eat it. The crust was pretty good and nice and crunchy but personally it's just too much pizza dough for me, still tasty and good though. I also got a slice of mushroom and sausage. That was NYC style, which was good. They reheated it up before I took it to go and it was beautiful! The customer service was amazing. It seemed as though the person at the register was possibly still some what new so the female employee was helping him and she seemed like she had a very pleasant way about her with helping others. This time I wasn't going too far, so it was still hot by the time I got to eat it. I did, as usual, add some Parmesan cheese and peppers on it, because..one can NEVER have too much of that haha. I can't say it was my favorite spot, simply because of the variety that I usually get, but it's possible I might go back, eventually.

What is it about SF and bland pizza? I mean wow this is #5 and it's just not good. I had the Detroit style and it appeared delicious but I was tricked as it was a flavorless mess. Also, I asked the guy for a coke and he said they only had Pepsi but when he went to the cooler, they had Mexican Coke! Why wasn't that an option when I asked for a Coke? I asked him this same question and his answer is we only have Pepsi in cans. But I never specifically asked for a can, I just asked for a Coke. I also didn't see these Cokes displayed with the other sodas either for some reason. The likelihood of me returning is 0, there's absolutely no reason to based on the bland pizza and sketchy service received.

I don't eat pizza often, but this place became my go to for visitors after learning it had a perfect health score and they all loved it! The place is very small, with only a handful of tables/chairs but the location is very convenient, right by the muni, across the street from the Castro theater and near bars.

Quick, fast, on the go, pizza that tastes good, come here! I was hungry and needed not to fall asleep, so I stopped by. Picked a slice and you can pay by cash or credit card. They put my slice on a paper plate and wrapped up with tin foil and off I ran to catch my bus! Perfect timing! Light dough pizza with crust, nice feta and tomato toppings, sorry I was in rush and hungry, so no photos as I ran out of the door. It's quite a large slice. My tummy is happy and thanks ya Marcelo! You are great lifesaver!

Solid pizza by the slice fills your belly up real nice for a slightly hefty price. Sit outside, enjoy the view people, dogs, a parrot too, it's Castro, always something new. Back to pizza, lots of cheese pepperoni coverage ain't a tease crust is fluffy, ate with ease. Best around? Probably not, but always ready, always hot and you just can't beat the spot.

I wish I still loved Marcello's. I did not like my last experience, unfortunately. There were hidden fees with my pizza delivery ($3.85 "service fee"?), $3.99 delivery fee, no option to leave a cash tip for delivery, the pizza was delivered cold, it was expensive, and thin on toppings.

Childhood favorite, growing up this was my favorite spot for a mushroom slice. Recently went back with a friend and was mildly disappointed, we ordered a medium mushroom pizza, the guy said "it'll take 30 minutes" and he seemed annoyed, they boxed it up and didn't notify us when it was ready so we waited even longer even though we were right there and they barely sliced the pizza at all so it fell apart really easily. Maybe we got the laziest dude that night, idk. All that being said one mediocre experience won't destroy my memory of this place but I reccomend you just order what slices they have ready, don't order a whole pie.

I ordered today and upon delivery immediately called to inform them my order was incorrect. I ordered the Scouty's, Margarita Victor's way, wings, and Caesar salad. My order was 50% correct. I received a cheese pizza and a box full of lettuce with anchovies on top, no croutons. I didn't ask for anchovies. While the site says you can add them for free, I did not. The person (male) answered the phone and I explained the order I placed and what I received. He placed me on a brief hold then came back and told me he completed the order himself and if anything was missing, I was to contact grub hub. I confusingly asked why would I contact grub hub if my order was wrong. I said I have a cheese pizza. I described the pizza and he told me that's how their margarita pizza looks. I told him there was no basil on the pizza and he again told me my order was correct. When I asked about the salad and why there were no croutons he told me, "I'm not the person you should be talking to. You need to contact grub hub." I again told him my box said no croutons on it with anchovies and it was not correct. He got angry/loud and told me, "I'm sorry your 50 cent salad is..." I can't remember what he said after that because I interrupted and told him he was rude, not to worry and I'll be up there. Now I'm on my way to this place after paying for delivery fees and a tip because you don't talk to people that way. Also, don't gaslight me! You work in customer service! If you don't know how to provide customer service , go do something safe because you're going to speak to the wrong person messed up and you're not going to like the response. I will say he was right about the 50 just not in the right context!

I've been stopping in whenever in town for a pizza slice 1985. Happy to say each visit is just as tasty today as then. Service tends to be quick and friendly, and the window seats are perfect people watching.

Walked by Castro area at night so popped in for slices of pizzas. Foods were ok, but it would be better if it serves hotter. Service was unpleasant, one of the cashiers was nicer and worked in a fast pace, but the one who took the pizzas was completely different, I feel like he was having a bad day. Overall experience was ok, 3 stars should be good enough.

Last Saturday we ordered a pizza and salad for delivery and after a very bad experience with the delivery service Marcello's saved the day for us and the meal was delicious! The delivery service delivered the meal to an address across town that we had never lived at and hadn't entered into the order (this was the first time we used them). Once we discovered the address error, one of us called Marcello's while the other tried to contact the delivery service who had no phone contact so we were forced to chat with one of their agents online. The delivery service agent was very unhelpful, bordering on rude, and told us that it was already delivered and left outside the front door at the wrong address and they even had a picture of it sitting there on the floor. Who leaves food on the floor like that! All the delivery service agent was willing to do was refund $14.00 of the $57.00 bill! We told him that was unacceptable and that we would dispute the charge. At that point we thought we were out the $57.00 with no food. However, the manager of Marcello's (I believe this name was Alex) offered to remake our meal for FREE as long as we could pick it up. We jumped at that offer and picked it up 1/2 hour later. The Pesto Chicken Salad and large Sausage & Mushroom Pizza were both excellent! I hadn't been there in many years and don't remember it being this good. We really appreciate what Marcello's did especially when the error was not their fault! That is excellent customer service! The delivery service ultimately refunded all of our money when I pursued the error with higher ups but it shouldn't had to be pursued at all. They screwed up. I've always liked their pizza until this happened yesterday. I bought three slices of pizza for over $21. After my second bite on the very first slice, I found these thick dark hairs got stuck in the cheese. I pulled them all out. It was super gross and unfortunately I had to throw them all away. I want my money back.

Imagine my shock when I was told the 2 slices of pizza I ordered cost $15. For that amount they should have tasted way better than basic. I miss Nizarios.

I love there cheese pizza here so much, but I am a cheese pizza guy. With four pizza places on this street I chose Marcellos for the crust and sauce. They are simple but have a lot of flavour. I also like how the prices have stayed the same when lots of jerks have raised their prices. I like SF businesses that get the locals. We want simple, delicious food at a good price but we know quality.

Hi Marcello's! Thank you for saving my life with the buffalo sauce! That note you left made my day you have no idea! I was having a big sad today and that note was just the smile I needed. You have a customer for life. PS- buffalo sauce isn't listed as a side sauce for order fyi!
