Ina Garten’s Paris: Where to Eat, Drink, and Shop Like the Barefoot Contessa

"This thrice-weekly market pops up on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays, combining the lure of a street fair with a hyper-fresh farmers market. Ina takes the Today show hosts on a jaunt throughout the stalls to pick up some snacks and picnic ingredients, raving about the produce picked just earlier that morning. She starts with the potato pancake vendor, for an “incredible’ hot snack. Visit for produce, viennoiserie, rotisserie chickens, cheese sliced to order, and so much more." - Melissa Kravitz Hoeffner

Our Favourite Food Markets in Paris

"With more than 150 stalls, this is one of the largest open-air markets in Europe, and one any food lover will not want to miss. Beyond fresh veggies, fruits, eggs, and cheese, there are plenty of vendors who sell premade meals, perfect for an impromptu picnic. It happens three times a week. Photo credit: Neil Conway"

Small market of local produce in a cozy neighbourhood.

Colourful and not to crowded traditional market. Few steps from Luxembourg Gardens.

Too expensive for what they offer. The quality is doesn’t justify the price at all. Especially the closest stand to the metro Rennes doesn’t offer fresh produce. I paid 1,40euro for a slightly yellow head of lettuce at this one. It’s for the tourists.

Vendors are incredibly friendly and helpful (ask for help; don’t start grabbing!). The items are all fresh.

One of my favorite stops in paris is always this food market. Great variety and super good food. The perfect place to put together a picnic lunch to then take to the Luxembourg garden. Stop by Rida's booth for some awesome olive wood kitchen wares.

A pleasure to visit, a little slice of fine French food on a sunny Sunday. What more could a tourist ask for! A free piece of compte cheese? We got that too! Thanks to the lady who gave us that.

Yelp
One of my favorite outdoor markets in France. The atmosphere is calmer than at Marche Bastille and the vendors are usually pretty friendly. This market runs for a couple of blocks along Raspail, starts at the entrance to Metro stop Rennes and runs on down the street. Open on Tuesday & Friday and the organic market is on Sunday. They also have one of the best rotisserie chicken places ive tried anywhere, its an Asian man who owns that booth and his rotisserie chicken and roasted potatoes are just amazing, a small chicken is only about 6 euro which is a bargain in Paris. The minute I get home I have to dig into it even if its still breakfast time. Ohhhh and the cheese vendors are also plentiful as are the vegetable vendors, all of its so fresh and tasty!

Yelp
Nice farmers market we stumbled upon while strolling through Paris! Fresh produce. Cheeses galore! Unique knick knacks and handmade jewelery. The fruit here was delicious and a great treat. Worth a stop whether staying nearby or strolling through.

Yelp
What's left to do on a Sunday when most of everything g is closed? .... Visit an Open Market that sells Organic Produce and food items! Walk the short length of the market and I'm sure you'll find something you need or not need but want! Open on Sundays from 9.00am to 1.30pm. We were on the hunt for Poulet Roti.. the rotisserie chicken that's been talked about! Found three stalls that sell it. Compared to the poulet roti we had in Lyon, France the previous Sunday... I'd say lyon wins... but this is still good! We took it back to our hotel and enjoyed our little picnic in the room. (It was raining outside).. ok maybe we ate it there because table manners flew out that parisian window! Bahhhhh! Humbug!

Yelp
Fantastic market for organic foods in Paris. My husband, in-laws and I went there one weekend to make up a picnic lunch and we found enough delicious things to make us wish we had more stomachs. The selection may not be as wide as in other markets, but the quality of what they had was spectacular. The fruits and vegetables in particular were outstanding. Part of this was coming end of July but the other is that the produce here is all organic and so in a country which already has fantastic produce, this seemed like the best of the best. For example, the tomatoes we got were so amazing that years later I still remember the taste and the texture, just incredible. If you love tomatoes and they are in season, you MUST come here, it's a command. On the down side, the prices are a bit more than at other markets, partially because the food is organic and partially because it's in a "fancy" part of town with wealthy, sometimes famous, patrons who can afford and are happy to pay the prices. Still, even with the higher prices, I highly recommend stopping by, especially if you want amazing produce.

Yelp
I come here to do my weekly veggie and fish shopping but also for two things that really stand out here: kale and galettes au pomme de terre (potato pancakes)! For kale, try the largest veggie stall when coming from the direction of Renne station. Usually there's a small crowd of Americans around the part where they have kale haha (they don't have it every week though). The potato pancakes- There's a guy with a hot griddle who makes potato pancakes with onion and cheese in them. At €2.50 for a pancake the size of your palm, they are not cheap but so good! The stall is located at the opposite end of where metro Renne is (at the other end is a crêpe stand, which is just so so..) There is usually a line but well worth the wait. You can order in English and in Japanese, too! (The guy speaks a little Japanese) Also the florist here has some of the most beautiful flowers I've ever seen! Overall I enjoy coming here but sometimes it can get crazy crowded with a mix of tourists taking photos at random spots and Parisiens doing their grocery shopping. One thing that was a bit surprising though, was that the bread and pastries sold here were not impressive. I think I tried almost all of the stalls (though not every single item) and frankly my neighborhood boulangerie is better...

Yelp
If you are looking for great tomatoes, this is the place to go right now... an amazing selection and a wide swing in prices so be sure to walk the entire market before making your selection. Most stands will let you taste the 'cocktail tomatoes' before buying... Don't miss the crepes at the far end (or beginning depending where you enter) the jams used are home made and the crepes/gallettes are made to order. It's a great way to begin your shopping expedition!

Yelp
I would give this open-air market 5 stars, but it's extremely expensive!! So I am going to take off one star just for that. Otherwise, it's a beauty. Everything is BIO (organic), and everything, and I mean everything, is absolutely beautiful and delicious. Their produce are little gems, and there are some food stands as well that are quite good. Worth a visit if you're in Paris for a few days, but not worth frequent visits if you're planning to live in Paris... unless you have some extra cash to burn for your fireplace. :) P.S. There's a non-BIO market on Tuesdays and Fridays at the same location (Raspail) that is expensive compared to some other marches in Paris, but much (much much) more affordable compared to the Sunday BIO market.

Yelp
Beautiful bio produce and products albeit super pricey. Go early to avoid the crowds - or go late to get the bargains. Definitely keep your eyes peeled if you are star struck - I saw one of my best cleeb sitings ever today and I'm from Manhattan so that is saying a lot! The cheese and yogurt at the stall on the left side about 1/3 of the way down is worth the queue - no doubt.
