The Hottest New Bars Around D.C. Right Now

"Solace Outpost added a sprawling waterfront bar right out front of its Navy Yard tap room in late June. The 330-seat outdoor extension called Crush Bar specializes in crushes (of course), frozen cocktails, sangrias, Solace brews like Juicy Lucy double IPAs, and canned spritzes or cocktails. On Saturdays and Sundays, Crush Bar welcomes a new barbecue pop-up called Dragon Doodz Barbecue Foodz. The wood-framed hangout near Nationals Park is outfitted with a new sound system, TVs, yard games, and sun shades. And right next door, a sandy tropical oasis called the Cove recently reopened right along the Anacostia River." - Tierney Plumb

My wife and I have just returned to Maren after a year's absence to find it the same well run, hospitable apartment. I suppose our willingness to return to the same building speaks volumes of our previous experience living here and we have not been disappointed. In fact, there has been one very significant upgrade made to the reception area - her name is Michaela. While no staff ever fail to be warm and friendly, it is always a special pleasure, Monday through Friday, to be sent into the world and sincerely greeted upon return by her ever-present smile! Thanks Maren.

Great place to live or visit a friend. You really can't beat the views from the rooftop, especially on fireworks night at the ballpark. The building is in line with the flight path that Marine One takes from the white house to Andrews, so you'll get to see the presidents helicopter go by multiple times a week. Resident tickets to the baseball being $5 a ticket it's really cheap and easy to go to the games. There's also a few bars and restaurants around so you can go for a stroll on the boardwalk and have a good time without having to taxi or metro it. There are however some issues. The building team need to get better at cracking down on people smoking weed in the building or on the roof, it's so unpleasant for most people and it's one of the reasons my partner will be moving out. The other big issue is with the frequency of MLB and DC United matches, the number of crowds regularly in the area can get annoying. Particularly if you take the metro to commute to and from the office it'll get on your last nerve coming home from a long day with a load of loud fans.

I lived at the Maren for 2 years and overall had a great experience. The apartments are modern and pretty sound proof despite the outside noise. The amenities (especially the gym) are great! The staff keeps the building very clean and decorated. It is in the heart of Navy Yard/Nats Stadium and near a few bars so if you’re very sensitive to noise consider getting a unit on a high floor. The major downside is public parking is very limited and expensive if you have visitors.

Update: The Maren was a fantastic building. We’ve lived here since 2021 and had loved it but we moved because of the noise and lack of accountability. From a neighborhood perspective renter beware for some units with windows facing south Capitol and the new outdoor bar (Cove) and the Cambria hotel - it can be like living in a nightclub Wednesday through Sunday. The great: The parking is residents only so no fighting with the public during game days. The cleaning crew is constantly working even on weekends and overall the building is spotless. Maintenance requests are always actioned within a day during the week. The resident events are monthly and used to be well done from comedy shows to wine tastings and cookouts (though they’ve been in slow decline in quality). The view and balcony from the *25 units are amazing. The concierge team has always been pleasant and makes an effort to get to know the residents. The gym has an amazing rooftop view. The amenities such as multiple rooftop grills, tables to telework, areas to watch tv or lounge and the views are spectacular. The building has had some internal issues with elevator outages and floods and coffeemaker issues and mosquito problems but the management was always communicative about it and worked quickly to fix it. The not great: The noise issues have become a significant concern and Maren management have attempted to resolve with the bar/hotel owners last fall but to no resolve. I wouldn’t have a problem if with the windows closed it was minor noise, but it’s constant 2-12+ on weekends and the bass makes it impossible to enjoy a movie or sleep or even enjoy the outdoor patio. Between the cove and the cambria and dc water and sandlot it’s literally non stop noise. If that’s your thing, this is the place for you! The road noise has always been there and that’s understandable and manageable. Management said we were the only complaints but that’s clearly not the case if you read other review of the property or the cove. I still give this location an ok review because the noise isn’t their fault, but it significantly impacts the experience especially at the monthly rental rate. If you are considering living here make sure you evaluate the noise from your unit. We moved as fast as we could and while I miss the location I don’t miss the noise or the unchecked rooftop visitors or the mosquitoes

Love living here! Great community, amenities, concierge, and resident events! Just went to a comedy show and it was a great time! The comedians were great and kept us laughing! Will definitely be back to more resident events - especially the comedy shows!

I am a very picky person. I looked online at nearly every single apartment building in the Navy Yard, and kept coming back to Maren's website. I only toured two buildings in person, Maren being one of them. As soon as I finished my tour, I knew this was the perfect place for me. From the aesthetic in-unit features and stunning common areas to the thoughtful amenities and perfect location - this is the place to live. The concierge staff make my days even better with their kindness; the leasing staff keep us consistently informed; and the maintenance staff are quick to fix any issues!

Absolutely thrilled with my experience at Maren. From the moment I walked through the doors, I was greeted by the incredibly friendly and attentive staff who made me feel right at home. They are always responsive and genuinely care about the residents, knowing everyone on a first-name basis from day one. Moving in was a breeze, thanks to their efficient and helpful team especially the property manager Keenan!! The sense of community here is truly remarkable, with events and gatherings that make it easy to connect with neighbors and feel a part of something special. The location is unbeatable – close to the best of DC, with easy access to shopping, dining, and entertainment. The space itself is exactly what I needed, with modern amenities, stunning views, and thoughtful design that makes every day enjoyable. I checked out so many luxury apartments in the city before signing the lease, and I can honestly say this has been the most enjoyable rental experience I’ve had. No regrets at all – just a great place to call home.
