Where to Eat the Freshest Oysters in Houston

"A new addition among the choice counters within Bravery Chef Hall, Margaux’s offers prime raw bar seating with oysters from coasts near and far. Platters are presented traditionally with mignonette, fresh horseradish, and cocktail sauce, with chargrilled choices flavored with garlic and fennel. Oyster enthusiasts, take heed — the restaurant has plans to launch an oyster omakase soon." - Megha McSwain, Brittany Britto Garley

Be advised that this place is on the bottom floor of an office skyrise along with a few other restaurants. It can't be seen from the street, but maybe there is a sign although I didn't notice one. However, it is AMAZING!!!!! It really is an oyster bar with bar seating. There are a few tables that seem to be shared with the other restaurants. The food is prepared fresh right in front of you. We got an array of char grilled oysters, lobster rolls, and crab and artichoke dip. It was the best!!! The ingredients are fresh and perfectly prepared. You can stop by here for great eats when you are in the area. I'm surprised there aren't more reviews. It's a well kept secret at its best. I will definitely frequent when I'm in the area.

Our FIRST time trying Oysters and certainly not the last! We had so much fun @braverychefhall trying @margauxsoysterbar which is a great seafood bar with fresh oysters and delicious seafood options! East Coast oysters selections were awesome! We are very thankful for Chef Sunny for introducing us to oysters from Maine, Rhode Island and Massachusetts and we learned about the differences in the flavors of each area. Our favorite east coast oysters were from Massachusetts! Thai chopped Kale salad w/ Salmon was also AMAZING! The Chargrilled Oysters were so tasty and flavorful for the first-timers like us who try the flavors before eating the raw flavors. Wagyu Steak was out of this world with amazing verde flavor! They also have Happy Hour M-F from 4-7pm on the Gulf Oysters! They also have a full day brunch buffet! Thank you for having us and having us try something out of our comfort zone! P.S: Parking can be tough in this area so be prepared!

Tasty oysters!! We had six raw from the Gulf. We had six baked, three lemongrass and three garlic. They were so tasty! The staff were super friendly.

Google
Was craving oysters and decided to stop by. Got the happy hour gulf special and it was just enough to hit the spot. The fresh Parmesan was a great addition. It came with another sauce that had dill in it. I should’ve tried it in hindsight but the hot sauce and lemon did it just right! The atmosphere was great. Very clean and cozy. It’s in a food hall but it’s a quaint size food hall so I imagine it won’t be too bustling all the time, which I prefer. I will definitely be returning soon!

We were in the mood for grilled oysters and didn't want to drive to Lafayette. Margeaux's is kind of hidden in a "adult cafeteria" setting. It is in the back by the Secret Garden in The Bravery chef's hall. Excellent customer service. Our waitress was friendly and outgoing. Our chef, Jordan has a great sense of humor and made sitting at the bar fun. Music this afternoon was 80s top 40, rock and roll. We had both options of BBQ and New Orleans style oysters. Expensive, but worth it. Many other more affordable menu options as well with another couple raving about how amazing their lunch was. We will be back. Very highly recommend!

Google
Food is overall delicious. The size of oysters very night to night and the level of freshness. Service is two stars because the line cook should definitely not be eating French fries between cooking. This happened back to back nights with two different line cooks. Overall good spot for happy hour but the journey continues for great oysters, clean facilities and great service.

Google
Grab their clam and scallop chowder!!? It was delish. I also ordered deviled eggs. Seriously though, I only came in for a light bite, but there was so many scrumptious menu items...I had to implement some kind of control. They had escargot, lobster roll, Mac and cheese, oysters, etc

Google
Very good service! Judy is my favorite. We were their last customers but the crew was so kind and helpful. We were craving lobster rolls and they did not disappoint! Probably one of the best lobster rolls I’ve had in awhile. Since Bravery Chef Hall was closing soon, it wasn’t super loud or crowded there. The bars were the locations with the action. We sat outside and enjoyed the light breeze. I enjoyed this experience and will be back!

Yelp
No longer in Bravery Chef Hall! Tried to call and no answer. I guess Houston wasn't really ready for oysters!

Yelp
This place is tucked inside of a food hall in downtown. it is very cute in the inside and they have like a bar style set up for seating now the service so so. It was hard to communicate because of the language barrier between both employees that was there that I went there on that day. One did not speak English at all, which was fine, but enough about that. I ended up coming here on my birthday to try out their famous oysters and I can say that I was underwhelmed. I tried the New Orleans barbecue oysters, which were good however, they were extremely small in front the price point that was a little disappointing, I tried fried deviled eggs, which had no flavor at all, the crab dip and for the price point it was very small. But I did try some raw oysters and they were OK..

Yelp
The food was super good! The service was good! I cant wait to come back to Houston and hit up this place again.

Yelp
My friend took me here for happy hour oysters and they were worth it! We ordered two rounds of oysters. We also tried the grilled oysters- New Orleans BBQ. I assume the friendly person we were chatting with was the owner. If you happen to be in this food hall, check out Margaux's!

Yelp
We ate the Prix Fixe dinner for Valentine's Day. We were so impressed! John took great care of us! The fresh oysters on the half shell were amazing (despite our worry that we like unadulterated fresh oysters)! The steak was also amazing. Finishing it off with flourless chocolate cake! We were so over full! Our tummies were so happy and we had leftovers. Love the casual atmosphere too! We will be back for oysters on the half shell again!

Yelp
Located in the very back of Bravery Hall in downtown. Not sure about free parking but it's walkable for those in downtown. You order via a pad and they bring the food to you. Open seating inside. We ordered a few items; Crab dip: 2/5, a bit bland and portions were a bit teeny Escargot: 3/5, sauce wasn't my favorite but it was cooked well Charbroiled oysters: 3/5, a bit steep at $24 for 6 oysters. They are decent sized so I'll give them that. Not the best flavor/ sauce for their New Orleans sauce. Lobster roll: 3.5/5, not too stiff at $28 and there were real lobster pieces. Toast was well buttered. Wish they left it simple with a mayo based sauce and left it traditional. The brown gravy wasn't my favorite. Overall, it's a good spot for the food hall. Not my favorite spot inside due to the flavor profiles for the dishes I tried. Was a bit pricey for what it was in my opinion, even with inflation.

Yelp
Came by specifically to try the Char grilled oysters. We tried all three flavors, Nola BBQ, Garlic & Fennel and Chipotle bourbon. Chipotle bourbon by Fay was the best. The bacon and scallop chowder was pretty tasty as well. If your in the area I would say it's a good place but just a bit to far of a trip to make this a "have to do" spot for me.

Yelp
We were recently in town staying in the medical center and used Yelp to find a dinner spot. We found Margaux, and we're so glad we did. We had a bit of trouble finding the spot because our GPS kept taking us right to it, but we had no idea it was located in Bravery Chef Hall. We are glad we found it, because the whole hall was very cool! Margaux has both bar/counter seating and table seating. We opted for a table because we knew we were going to order several dishes and needed to spread out. We tried a dozen east coast oysters. I wish I could remember which ones, but they were all fabulous. Nice and compact and full of flavor. We had a good selection because we had different levels of brininess and each one was definitely different. We also had the head on shrimp and the fried oyster deviled eggs...both dishes were very good. Shrimp were cooked perfectly and peeled easily which tells us they were very fresh. We rounded out our visit with an order of 18 chargrilled oysters, six of each flavors. they were all so very good and it was hard to pick a favorite; however, if pressed, i loved the garlic and fennel and my hubby was partial to the chipotle bourbon.

Yelp
Margaux's is as about as good as it gets concerning oysters! I've not a bad item on the menu. Their oysters are a great size and always fresh! There's something on the menu for everyone, from crab dip to oysters prepared 3-4 different ways. I love the New Orleans Style, the garlic & fennel, and of course raw on the half shell! It's truly the highlight of the Bravery Chef Hall. I recommend going at a time when the garden bar is open, beautiful atmosphere, great food and drinks, nestled in a downtown hiding spot!

Yelp
We devoured the shrimp rolls and the habanero lemongrass oysters, so good ! the staff was very attentive and the service was great! We came on St. Patty's day so it was pretty wild in the cafeteria but I really enjoyed my experience. i'll definitely be back

Yelp
Hubby wanted oysters for his bday, so we decided to check this place out. The prices were reasonable, especially their HH oysters, and everything was fresh and delicious. The deviled eggs are a must!

Yelp
Inside the eatery pavilion downtown. Located right before the garden area. Went for the happy hour oyster specials (on an oysters kick). $1.50 / Oyster with a half dozen minimum. The staff was friendly enough - no complaints. Oysters order was differentiated btw East Coast and Gulf Coast, and then you get an assortment from either region selected. I selected East Coast and the oysters were from Prince Edward and Delaware(not sure on DE). Enjoyed it. **the 3-stars is bc I realized my bill was $17.24 when I only ordered 6-oysters for the named '$1.50/Oyster' that's mentioned on their site. Need to look into that further.

Yelp
This place in Bravery Chef Hall has the best oyster happy hour. It's 4-7p on weekdays and gulf oysters are $1 each. But they're massive and so refreshing!! I will definitely be back. Parking situation: street

Yelp
Margaux's can be found at the bravery chef hall where there are multiple restaurants sharing the space. Super cool concept. I came for their oyster happy hour from 4-7PM M-F. $1 oysters! I was so excited. They serve only gulf oysters, but when I ordered they said they don't have anymore so they were going to serve an east coast oyster and keep the deal. Fine by me! We then waited for what felt like 30+ minutes, which I'm sure is normal if they had to shuck the oysters. They were presented so beautifully, very large! When I tried to slurp the oyster by bringing the shell to my mouth, I got many bits of the shell in my bite. Not cool at all. Then, I decided to not slurp the oyster and use my fork. That was ok, but the experience of eating oysters shouldn't be compromised because of the shell! THEN, when I placed my shell down, my fingers were covered in what looked like dirt/sand/grainy bits. I was appalled and tried to eat the rest of my oysters as quickly as possible so I could wash my hands. Not the best oyster experience, but I'm wondering if it's because we didn't get to eat the gulf oysters that were meant for happy hour. The lobster roll was alright, bread was delicious but the sauce inside was too creamy and took away from the lobster. Fries were really good though. Next time I'll come back earlier during HH to try the other oysters and see how that is.

Yelp
Great sushi! Nice local spot for a quick bite. Nice service too! I have had better ramen.
google avatar

Laci G.

Yelp
Very good but pricey, I got the order delivered. It was the New Orleans, bourbon and fennel grilled oysters. I also got the fried oyster deviled eggs. If everything they were the best. The New Orleans Oysters a close 2nd. I'd go back in person next time. Only because you probably should have them straight from the grill. But still very good.

Amanda L.

Yelp
I have never and will never again lmao. Manager was terribly rude .. emphasis on terribly. The female server was sweet. Dude obviously has some issues. Seemed like he was having a bad day so I bought him a beer. Dude dumped it out right in front of me LOL! Oysters had no flavor. Even if they were the best oysters I'd still never come into this food hall again out of fear of running into that dude again. Weird.

Ken T.

Yelp
The service was gracious and professional. In addition to the oysters, I had the fish and chips, both were delicious and fresh. This is certainly a place I would recommend and make a return.
google avatar

Yelp
I came for the happy hour $1 Gulf Oysters! From 4-7 mon thru fri. They were huge and juicy!! All the fixings with lemon salt pepper and cocktail sauce was perfecto! Also got the lobster mac n cheese and it was very creamy. Not a whole lot of lobster chunks but the ones that were in there was good. The lobster roll is pricy but flavored nicely. Garlic and a herb vacuous. The truffle parmesan fries were delicious as well, nice crisp and truffle flavor. We sat a the bar and were accommodated nicely by the staff. You can get your alcoholic beverages a the bar outside or the wine bar inside of bravery chef hall. Parking is street parking and free after 6pm. $2.50/hr for metered parking. I'll be back because tuesdays they have steak night in the hall and of course back for Margaux oysters!

Yelp
It locate in bravely food hall, love the blue and marble white counter decors. Service was good and the chef was tentative. Lobster roll (4/5) Grilled oysters (4/5) Escargot (4/5) Overall, good seafood and very reasonable price.
google avatar

Yelp
Located this great find at the Bravery food hall. Staff was friendly and offered great suggestions. seating is limited but it's a small spot in a food hall. They have the bar counter, and a few tables. We ordered gulf and east coast oysters on the shell. The vinegar and dill sauce was delicious on the gulf oysters. I loved the escargot. The bread was crisp yet soft and perfect for dipping in the garlic butter. I almost thought I was in New Orleans with char-grilled oysters. They were charred perfectly. I also tried the crab dip, and it was heavenly. The only problem was the serving size. The drinks were from another spot. This spot die not serve beverages. I loved my meal, but the portions were small, and the prices were higher. I will say the oysters on the half shell were nicely sized and priced appropriately, but everything else was overpriced. All in all, I will try again during happy hour when the prices will be fair for the portion size.

Yelp
Had a short rendezvous here with some girlfriends and the staff couldn't have been nicer! The deviled eggs with fried oyster on top, enough said.
google avatar

Yelp
I'd like to first start off my saying that the garlic fennel oysters and lobster roll tasted so fresh and were 10/10. I like the decor and It's right next to the secret garden which is such a cute area. I'd love to go back when the garden is actually open because their drinks looked really good as well. My only issue is that we previewed the menu online and based our restaurant choice on what was shown on the menu, however once we arrived, we realized a few of the menu items were discontinued and were no longer available. We did ask the waiter and she informed us that they were launching a new menu soon. I just wish they updated their website to be reflective because we were looking forward to trying some of the items listed.

Yelp
First, I love the whole ambiance of the Bravery Chef Food Hall, especially at night. For Margaux's, the oysters are pricey. And for that price I expected the oysters to be big, which they weren't. And the taste was nothing spectacular either. The parmesan fries were standard and good. The surprise star was the crab & artichoke dip, very very good. And I don't even like artichokes. I would definitely be back to Bravery Chef Food Hall, but I don't t know if I'll be back to Margaux's, or at least not for their oysters.
google avatar

Kelly L.

Yelp
Came here since the oysters caught my attention. Since I'm from California, I've had my fair share of oysters from San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Los Angeles and I was curious on how the oysters would taste here. I cant recall what type of oysters I ordered, but it was different from what I was used to. I also ordered the lobster roll and upgraded the usual fries for truffle parmesan fries! Best decision ever. The fries were extremely addictive. I would definitely come back and order the lobster roll again! Also the toasted bread that came with the chargrilled oysters was tasty and buttery!

Sully M.

Yelp
So this little gem is located in the Bravery Chef Hall, it's around the corner from Frank's Pizza. The Hall has a ton of food options- however my craving for oysters lead me here! It's located in the back of the food hall, where there seems to be some music close by if you feel like dancing after. I totally forgot to take pictures because that's how delicious everything was. I ordered a half dozen of east coast oysters, a half dozen roasted garlic & fennel oysters & the escargot. Everything was beautifully flavorful, the service is very intimate as you watch them prepare the dishes one by one right in front of you. It's cute and quaint, delicious! I would recommend 10/10!

Yelp
Overpriced - 1 Dozen Oysters = $45 Fake Horseradish not in paste form Not AUTHENTIC Fish & Chips No AUTHENTIC Mignonette Sauce JUST NOT IMPRESSED

Yelp
Awesome delicious cooked to perfection lobster rolls, and the best truffle fries I have ever had! Can't wait to try the oysters next.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious happy hour menu to indulge on the various oysters they offer. The staff does an awesome job recommending the various oysters. I highly recommend to check them out; you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Came here on a week night on a whim since I was craving for oyster. Since I don't travel to downtown often to dine it can be tricky finding this place. Bravery Cheff hall is located inside a building with multiple little restaurant inside. The food was pretty good but definitely will put a dent in your wallet. The lobster roll was decent but can use a little more butter. The crab and artichoke dip was delicious and such a tease. The chargrilled oyster is not on the menu so you will need to tell the waitstaff. After spending about $70 for two people we were still hungry. Like I mentioned earlier these food were a tease. Since I didn't want to pay another $21 for 6 oyster I went to Captain Tom's and got my fixing of a dozen for $8. P.s. when the waiter dropped off my grilled oyster he said hes waiting for the bread but never came back. Although the food is good it isn't the best bang for your buck and there's plenty of other better spot that serve same quality food (not talking about captain tom) that is more affordable.

Yelp
I was craving oysters and this place hit the jackpot. Tuna martini was excellent. Finished with the redfish on the half. Great meal.
google avatar

Jerrod C.

Yelp
Located in Bravery Chef Food Hall is this unique little oyster bar. The grilled oysters had great flavor, had both the garlic/butter/cheese and the Cajun flavored. They were great size and fresh. Will be ordering them again. They carry Snake River farm Wagyu beef which is also my go to brand! The chimichurri was excellent! Now the staff! The one man show did an amazing job on cooking and taking good care of me! It was a heavenly experience and will be back! Ps don't forget to check out the Secret garden bar!
google avatar

Angela B.

Yelp
Good experience. Parking was expensive but well worth the money. The oysters were not as large as I expected but were very good...flavor...texture...and seasoning!

Peipei W.

Yelp
Happy hour oysters are great and the garden bar right by it has the same happy hour for drinks too. We just took out food out and enjoyed it outside. Escargot is to die for. They had the best sauce and we ordered extra bread just to dip it in the escargot sauce
google avatar

Fallon H.

Yelp
12/10!!!! If you are in downtown Houston and love oysters, check out Margaux's Oyster Bar! It is a hidden seafood heaven!! The selection of East Coast oysters was plentiful, the lobster roll was amazing and even the Escargot was delish! Above all, the service provided by Jimmy was impeccable! Jimmy's knowledge on oysters was that of a sommelier's to wine. Very impressive! Go check them out!!
google avatar

Libby H.

Yelp
I love this oyster spot in bravery chef hall!! We had many types of raw oysters (it's crazy how different they are from different regions!!). They have a great variety. They also have charbroiled oysters were wow delicious. The escargot/snails were not my thing but my friends loved them!! The garlic bread on top of this all was just a great ++++. Overall great food and great people that work there that are really passionate about the oyster business. Only reason it's 4 stars is because it's quite expensive and sometimes the service is a bit slow.
google avatar

Tyron H.

Yelp
Service and food were amazing. I ordered a dozen oysters and 6 cocktail shrimp. So fresh and so clean.
google avatar

Cate O.

Yelp
Incredible experience, They just launched a new brunch menu and everything was fresh, tasty, and service was amazing. Very personable crew, chef John made sure everything was to my liking and was very attentive. The ambiance is perfect for a date night or a quick bite of fresh sea food. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This place was VERY HARD to find. You have to pay for parking as well. Inside Bravery Chef Hall, there were several restaurants located inside sharing a food court type space. Margaux's was all the way in the back right corner. When I arrived there, I asked if they had a menu. The cashier said no with no further explanation. Therefore, I had to look up online to see what all they offer. The raw oysters and sauces were average. The grilled oysters were very good except they were a little too salty and VERY EXPENSIVE. The truffle fries were thin and very salty. The amount of fries you receive is not much. There was mostly seasonings inside the bowl rather than actual fries. The escargot was good but also too salty. I prefer dishes with less salt and others can add salt to their liking.
google avatar

Lacy D.

Yelp
We went here on a whim while evacuated in Houston. As a New Orleans native, I know seafood...and this seafood was amazing. We had the chargrilled king crab and the raw oysters. My favorites were the crab and oysters with the Szechuan sauce. They were made perfectly, and the staff was super friendly. I'll definitely be going back!
google avatar

Justina B.

Yelp
Adorable place to enjoy a meal. With a friendly staff! Oysters knowledge is fun to learn and try different ones Truffle fries are supper delicious here and crispy
google avatar

Sheri K.

Yelp
Incredible food! My sister and I almost didn't make it here. It's about a 20 min walk from Camden. My favorite lunch spot in Houston!
google avatar

Hassan H.

Yelp
Wide variety of oysters, this is exactly what I was looking for downtown. They are the only game in the area and this place did not disappoint. Lots of seating, I sat the bar area next by the kitchen - I got helped as soon as so walked in. Service was fast and food was even better, next time I come back I'll have to try the lobster-roll!
google avatar

Nhi P.

Yelp
I had high expectations for this place looking at all the reviews. Unfortunately it wasn't an amazing experience for me. These were some sad oysters. The oysters were not cleaned properly. In comparison to other pictures taken by other customers these were dirty. The first oyster I tried tasted like sewage, another one had a worm. The water was fantastic btw. Probably the best water I had ever tasted.
google avatar

Trinh B.

Yelp
Oysters at this place was amazing and my now go to place for oysters!! Everything we ate was absolutely delicious!! And the truffle fries were to die for!! I had to do a second order because I couldn't get enough of it!! Service was great too!! Loved everything and will be back!!
google avatar

Yelp
Did you know that trying fresh oysters outdoors is an entirely different experience than trying them indoors⁉ I learned this when I visited @margauxsoysterbar. Chef Sunny suggested we try the oysters outside, and the fresh air outside vs the all the noise indoors made a distinct difference in how the fresh oysters tasted! I had an amazing time trying out the various fresh oysters presented to us by Chef Sunny who has EXTENSIVE knowledge of oysters. He took us on a journey across geographies as he presented oysters from oyster vendors across the nation, most of which were small-scale oyster farmers he personally reached out to to source the most unique fresh oysters in town!! I also tried the grilled oysters which were also FANTASTIC and had escargot for the first time . Not gonna lie...I was a little nervous about trying escargot but it blew me away and now I'm craving some again
google avatar

Raul O.

Yelp
Oysters were delicious!! Ambiance was different but the bar right outside made our experience much better. Just a heads up its not like a full service restaurant. You order your food and can take it outside or eat it there.

Yelp
We had a very enjoyable experience at Margaux's. I will start by saying the service was top notch. Even though they were extremely busy we were knowledged immediately and told that someone would be right with us. The person behind the counter took time to answer questions and make recommendations and that was so appreciated. We started with the chargrilled oysters and they were fantastic! We got both them the flavors and enjoy the fact that they were big meaty oysters and not the little tiny oyster some places try to pass off. Everything we ate here tasted fresh and was cooked to order, everything was absolutely delicious. The vibe of the entire place was really cool but I feel like we found the diamond in the rough and found some really good seafood. I'm looking forward to going back and trying other items on the menu.
