San Francisco’s New Restaurant Openings - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"This dark, sultry bar serves cocktails alongside a short menu of light bites like deviled eggs and housemade chicken nuggets. This speakeasy salon is tucked behind The Cavalier in SoMa, and is reopened for service on Friday and Saturday nights. Just make sure to check the hours before you go, they’re a bit limited at the moment (approximately 9pm-12am).  " - Ricky Rodriguez

You have to love a nice speakeasy bar. I believe this place is connected to The Cavalier. It has its own entrance in the back with just a sign and a red arrow pointing to the door. The atmosphere and ambiance was wonderful and inviting. It’s a small place has about 4 seats at the bar counter and then maybe 5 place for a group of 4 or 5 to sit at equipped with couches and lounge chairs. Their selection of drinks was pretty nice. I love seeing a good selection of different kinds of whisky’s here. It was my son birthday that we were celebrating and let me tell you the staff was so friendly and took very good care of us made us feel right at home. It’s a nice place to come and relax and forget the outside world and just enjoy yourself and the people around you. Make sure you make reservations before you go there really isn’t that much seating but well worth the visit.

Absolute 5 stars out of 5 for this venue! We held an intimate wedding lunch at Marianne’s for 17 people. The food was amazing and the staff were attentive & friendly! Great cocktails, and the atmosphere was so intimate and special! Cannot recommend this place highly enough!

Swanky speakeasy with good drinks and tasty bites. The unique interior adds to the mystic of this upscale dive. They serve some creative small plates which pair nicely with there stiff drinks. The beer selection isn’t bad as well. Friendly staff in a cozy atmosphere makes this a good place to either start your night or end it here. But be warned, swanky slo means pricey.

Let's be honest, who doesn't love a secret? Who doesn't love Speakeasies? I love secrets and I love secret bars even more, and SF is full of them. Marianne's is a hidden gem in the back of a restaurant, you literally enter through an Exit sign. You can check in at the restaurant or find the entrance on Jesse Street. They accept walk-in's but I recommend making reservations. They have amazing cocktails and delicious bites. Tried the Sticky Fingers - a rye based cocktail and the Honey Bang Me Sloe - Vodka basked cocktail. They are speciality cocktail prices between $14-15. The light bite and apps are great. Brussel sprout chips, tartare, and fried oysters. The ambiance is relaxing, romantic, and warm. There's low lighting and great music playing. Perfect for a date or with friends. Don't be in a rush if you come here, you definitely lose track of time. I didn't want to leave because I loved it so much inside, I can't wait to return.

Beautifully cozy speakeasy! We had booked it for a private event, and our guests loved the classy and beautiful vibe as well as the attentive service and the delicious hors d’oeuvres (sliders, charcuterie board, knafeh bites and rich chocolate truffles).

Came on a rainy chilly night after near by dinner. What a chill vibe. Low light chandeliers, candles on top of cherry wood tables and intimate tables for 2. Lots to look at in case your date is a bore. Fantastic drinks and enjoyed sitting at the bar since it was a full house. Make a ressie if coming! Speakeasy vibes located at the end of a random street, east to kiss u less you know 😉

Great spot. Great drinks. Even better service. Thank you Andrew and Ross for taking care of us.

After discovering this secret lil spot several years ago I have been back many times. It's a great cocktail and a happy staff willing to recommend any variation of what you need to enjoy this space. The decor is straight out of the Rocker / Mod era of the late 1960s. Both Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithful would be so proud. Great job!

Yelp
Attended a brunch hosted by a dear friend. Marianne's is a beautiful venue! You can even choose the music for the outdoor entrance. Windi, Hugo, and Kasey were such wonderful and attentive staff. The food was lovely - there were egg sandwiches, pastries and toast, a fruit platter, chia & coconut milk puddings, fruit parfaits, French toast. They really accounted well for dairy-free pudding option and vegetarian breakfast sandwiches. I don't know how much the event cost but I would certainly recommend this venue!

Yelp
Marianne's is absolutely fantastic. This review is based on a surprise private event that a friend hosted on November 4 for her husband's birthday. I flew to SF for 24 hours just for the event and I must say it was made it entirely worth it because of this fantastic venue and experience. The decor and vibe is just the right of intimate. There's a classy yet un-stuffy air about this spot. It's located just down the way from The Cavalier; I appreciated the separate, dedicated space. Most of all, I was so surprised how smoothly every ran, and the quality of drinks and food. Usually I've found parties in event spaces have a staff that is stilted, bored, just going through the motions of hosting yet another party...NOT the case here. The bartender was fantastic (I wish I had caught her name), handling the group with ease with her delicious cocktails, while staying chipper/friendly. She greeted me warmly upon arrival, showing me the special cocktail menu for the evening but also gesturing to the variety of other options should I prefer. I wasn't feeling well earlier that day so asked for guidance on a choice that wouldn't be harsh on my stomach, which she happily offered (the "Imperial G&T" was perfect)...just wonderful service. Passed food was also surprisingly good, despite what I was expecting with typical 'bar food' choices: french fry cups, onion rings, salmon ceviche tacos, smoked deviled airs, burger bites, even fried chicken nuggets that just tasted...like elevated comfort food. Platters were circulated broadly and consistently and we all went back for 2nds (and 3rds). Can I just say the other staff helping out that night, running out the food, bussing tables...they also were just as good as the bartender (especially the man who was especially courteous and friendly). Again didn't catch their names but would love for this feedback to be passed to them. Would absolutely return.

Yelp
This place charges $25/PER PERSON as a cover charge/just to make a reservation! The fee does not go towards your total bill, which is absolutely absurd. The decor is cool, the room is small, the noise level is good for dates, but there's not much privacy. It's very open and you can easily stare at everyone else. The bartender is enthusiastic and nice, but the drinks have no pop. It's all classic drinks - manhattans, martinis, highballs. There seems to be an attempt at a twist, but there's nothing special, just, I assume - god, I at least HOPE - higher quality ingredients. This place is one of the WORST "speakeasy" cocktail experiences I've EVER had. At $22+/cocktail + $25 cover charge, you easily spend $150+ on a very lackluster and actually kind of infuriating experience. A total waste of money and time. There are so many other unpretentious bars in San Francisco that welcome with you open arms, I do not recommend this place AT ALL. Like, I'm actively telling people this place sucks.

Yelp
This amazing lounge is adjacent to the Hotel Zetta and the restaurant The Cavalier. We had dinner at the Cavalier and were told about the lounge. The server literally took our drinks and walked us to the lounge. The ambience is sooooo chill. Music playing , dark lighting, it's a great place to have a drink. I can't remember exactly what my wife ordered for her drinks but she said they were great. Cool place to end a Saturday night before going back to our room. If you want a fast paced bar/lounge this isn't it, but if you want to chill and enjoy some drinks, definitely recommend this place. We definitely will be back next time we are in Frisco.

Yelp
As soon as we walked in it was as if we were warped into a different time and space. The perfect chill ambience. Service was excellent by our waiter Ross. I ordered the crafted Cassius Clay Rye cocktail with a black salt rim! Yum yum yum. We will definitely be back! Thank you for the experience

Yelp
Had a little happy hour here and I thought it was a nice spot. We were in the back room and it was packed to the gills with folks and it was hot but I still dug it. I also thought the bartenders were getting nailed and were taking forever to make drinks but hey, they loved me cause I ordered beer! Cool decor, cool place to hang.. Just turn up the air a bit and not have 52 ingredients in every drink and we will be a ok!

Yelp
Really cool speakeasy type spot! You enter through a mostly unmarked door in the ally behind The Cavalier. Very cute place with cool decor and comfy seating. It is not a large space so it can get cozy, but it's all part of the experience. I had The Monarch cocktail and it was delicious. Service was great as well. I definitely recommend a reservation (it may be the only way to get in). The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of the doorman situation. When we arrived there was a chair outside the outdoor unmarked door, but no one in it. The door was unlocked so we went in. Right inside that door was like an empty hallway, but we saw a door that looked to be the bar, so we opened it. That's when we were accosted by a man who we later determined was the doorman. The doorman comes rushing out yelling in my face "whoaaaaa! Back up! Back up! Back up!" and like pushes/forces us backwards. We stand there startled and he then asks if we have a reservation (maybe what he should've asked first). When we say yes, he gets a lot friendlier. It was an alarming interaction to say the least. This guy should be fired. We spent the first 15 minutes inside in shock trying to calm down from just being accosted by a man in an empty hallway when all we were doing was trying to notify a restaurant that we had arrived for our reservation. Do better Marianne's. Without the doorman, I would recommend. With the doorman, I'd suggest you hit the gym first in case you have to defend yourself for showing up for a reservation.

Yelp
We met when we were almost young: I wish it had been sooner. I had Marianne's bookmarked for two years before they opened up to the public. I felt lucky to make a reservation just under two weeks before NYE. The space is intimate, to say the least, so book ahead if you want to come on a weekend night, with more than a few people. The hostess graciously let us squeeze an extra person in - otherwise it's maximum 8 people for one of few booths. Oh you're really such a pretty one: The lounge is an all encompassing comfort. The lighting is dim, sure. When I was trying to convince my friends to come here, the best I could describe it was: a cocktail lounge with excellent armchairs. I never said that I was brave: The cocktails are strong. No understating it. Between ten of us, we ordered two communal cocktails that came out in decanters. We got about two glasses each, and that was enough to make us teeter a bit on the way out. I also indulged in a superb First We Take Manhattan, in honor of my Man, Leonard Cohen. Considering their potency, the drinks were fairly priced. I'm standing on a ledge and your fine spider web is fastening my ankle to a stone: I didn't want to leave. I fell in love before we had even sat down in our booth. Everyone was gracious. There was a candy dish beside us. We could order fatty fries in red wine au jus. This bar was hitting all the right notes for me. I wish I had gone back already, I want to keep one of the menus. To have cocktails in honor of Leonard Cohen and other greats lost in 2016? This was the poetic end to the year.

Yelp
After appearing in Eater, one of my friends suggested we check out Marianne's before it was no longer a secret bar. I agreed and we made a same day reservation for Friday, August 26th at 5:45pm for 5 people. They do ask you to put a credit card down since they'll charge you a $25 cancellation fee per person for no shows. Not sure how strict this is, but I showed up with 6 people and we were able to fit everyone in the booth we got. If you're not sure where Marianne's is, when you're coming from 5th, just walk down Jessie past the Cavalier entrance. You'll see a pink door to your left. That is Marianne's. The day I went, there were ropes outside and some of the employees were talking outside, so I found it easily. *Indian summer: botanist gin, jalapeno, cucumber, lemon cordial, soda & basil salt rim ($15) *Honey bang me sloe: barr hill honey vodka, sipsmith sloe gin, galliano, elderflower, orange juice & lemon ($13) ×2 *Long island iced tea: tea infused flor de cana rum, absolut vodka, beefeater gin, cointreau, lemon, ginger & cola ($14) *Sticky fingers: michters rye, balvenie 12 yr scotch, angioletto, sweet vermouth, grand marnier & lemon bitters ($15) ×2 *Brandy alexander: le reviseur brandy, creme de cacao, allspice dram, cream & nutmeg ($13) We basically tried the whole cocktail menu minus one drink. I got the sticky fingers. I am a scotch girl after all. It was nicely balanced. I ended up having a sip of every drink we ordered. If I was in a different mood and wanted something refreshing, I'd go for the honey bang. It was light, but still had a kick. For those who are calorie conscious, you can get diet coke with the long island. *2 minute quail egg: celery salt, crispy shallots & dijonnaise ($3 each) ×2 *Smoked fingerling potatoes: black garlic bbq sauce & malt aioli ($12) *Crispy squash blossoms: roasted peppers, goat cheese & cress ($14) There's a small food menu so you can order some dishes if you need a little substance with all your drinking. I believe it's all prepared by Cavalier. I didn't try any of the food, but everyone seemed to enjoy the dishes. One of my girlfriends was in town for the weekend, so we were celebrating my birthday. I told them when I walked in and they gave me a glass of bubbly right when I sat down. So sweet! Our waitress was such a doll. So friendly. She made our experience that much more amazing. And the bartender too! He was awesome and gave us a couple pours of Bunnahabhain: islay single malt scotch whisky to celebrate my bday. From the drinks to the amazing staff, I had a great time at Marianne's. Everyone here made it one of my favorite bday celebrations so far!

Yelp
I came here for a private event and it was so intimate and fun, it's like stepping back through a time machine. It can be hard to find and the outside looks nondescript, but once you enter (by getting past the bodyguard at the front by being on the guest list), the vibe, atmosphere, and decorations fit so well, it really is like a speakeasy. The cocktails are great as is the food: we had cheese, meat, grilled cheese, sliders, and more, and the service is amazing. It could be romantic for a date night, or just a fun spot to hang with coworkers.
google avatar

Yelp
This speakeasy is a bit expensive, and you have to pay $25 per person for your reservation but it's an experience! It's a small room with super nice couches and intimate seating. The bartender checks in on you regularly to make sure he can make you something you'd like. The two servers are also friendly and the music is good vibes only.

Yelp
Unless you accidentally stumble in here looking for the restroom in the Cavalier, I strongly suggest you go elsewhere. I am shaking my head in disbelief that we gave Marianne's a second chance! What kind of a "speakeasy" has half a tiny cocktail napkin's worth of a "menu" of drinks?! I'm well-versed in the cocktail scene in NYC, SF, Chicago, Austin, etc and this is a hilarious joke compared to a real speakeasy. Marianne's is still full of patrons too rowdy for a place aspiring to be a cocktail bar. Service was just ok, drinks were good but forgettable. Feels like some out-of-touch boomers thought they could cash in on retro rock n'roll nostalgia to fleece people out of money that is better spent at any other SF cocktail bar. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Emmett K.

Yelp
We had our wedding reception here and they did a fabulous job. The wait staff is super friendly and the planner Jayson was amazing. His chill manner just vibed with the place, he was overall awesome. All our guests raved about the food and premium cocktails. 10/10. Thank you!

Yelp
REVIEWER #23 Ladies and gentlemen! Are you looking for a secret bar that will WOW the hell out of your partner? Well let me introduce you to Marianne's! Marianne's is the super-secret cavalier back bar in San Francisco. When I arrived here in August 2016 this place was a hidden gem...but dang does the word get out quickly! I first came here with a Yelp friend for drinks. I literally do not know how he found this place but once we walked in and we had seen Yelpers that we knew in SF, I soon found out that this place was going to be the next best thing to night life! If you have never been here before let me give you the scoop: -Marianne's is located inside The Cavalier Restaurant however it does have its own private entry on the side of the restaurant with the pink door which is located on Jesse Street. If you haven't been here before then I would encourage you to check inside the restaurant and the host will walk you to Marianne's. -They are only open during the evening time from 5:30PM-12 or 1AM (depending on the day). -They do accept walk-in's but please not that this is NOT a big bar. It has only a couple tables and chairs and benches. If they are full they will take your name down and add you to the waitlist and text when there is space available. -They do serve light bites and appetizers in Marianne's. (Food is pretty pricey) but you get what you pay for! The food is delicious here! I can definitely contest to this as me and friend tried a lot of dishes off the menu such as: Lamb Schnitzel, potted Dungeness crab, Ham and Cheese Finger Sandwiches, Fried Oysters, Birthday Bubbly, Brussel sprouts Chips, Pork Sausage Rolls and many more! I recommend you try different dishes and don't worry which one you choose because you can't go wrong with anything here! -There drinks are stronggg!! I tried about 8 different drinks (of course, all on different visits) and all of them are truly delicious such as the Brandy Alexander & Honey Bang me Sloe. My all-time favorite is the Long Island Ice Tea. They do something amazingly different that makes the drink much more tasty and strong (Just how I like it). -I love that they have card and games that you can play inside the bar. There is a table in the back of the restaurant where you can pick up cards or dominos. Perfect for a great and fun night while you sip on a drink and have a couple appetizers. Now that I gave you a rundown of everything about the restaurant, let's move on to the customer service! Wow! Exceptional is not even the perfect word to describe the service here! Everyone is absolutely amazing! I walked in and was greeted right away. The first time I came here I had the lovely pleasure of having Janelle as my server! She was amazing and was on top of the service. She recommended dishes to us and made sure to check in frequently. Jake the bartender was such a joy to speak to and damn does he make delicious drinks! Mario was in the back kitchen cooking up all the delicious food! Big shout-out to Mario for the delicious appetizers that had me wanting more! Andre was another bartender that I had a pleasure of meeting as well here and Gabriel the server! All the lovely workers knew me by name the second time I walked in! AMAZING! Overall, I definitely would recommend Marianne's! If you are in San Francisco to visit, make sure you check this place out! You will not be disappointed! I love this place and look forward to coming here more often!

Yelp
The absolute best!!! I was hosting a team dinner -- and brought them to Marianne's. Amazing food. Amazing services. Quaint and special space. Could not have expected more. Highly recommend. Food ordered -- appetizer spread, fish and chips, sliders and chocolate balls. Yummy.

Yelp
This speakeasy is hidden inside the Cavelier. Make you reservation online before you go! When you get there, go in from the Cavalier and someone from the front desk will take you to Marianne's entrance in the back. (I made the mistake of going without a reservation and got rejected twice) Inside the decor is really cute. There's a cozy feel. There's a few lounge seating and some booths. The cocktails here are awesome! It takes a little bit of time to get your drinks but overall - love the ambiance and the handcraft cocktails.

Jin J.

Yelp
I threw a private cocktail party here for my anniversary and I was so please with how everything turned out! The event coordinator was very communicative. The service was excellent. They even let me have a cocktail tasting before my event to make sure the cocktails were to my satisfaction. Before my event they accommodated my wishes by taking out a couple large pieces of furniture so that there was room for dancing. Perfect space for about 20 guests if there is going to be dancing. My guests kept commenting on how much fun they had!

Nancy G.

Yelp
You have to pay $25 per person for a reservation fee on Tock which DOES NOT go towards your $30 cocktails! Not worth it. Last time I EVER go.
google avatar

Geeta K.

Yelp
This speakeasy bar is located inside Hotel Zetta. There is no sign outside of the hotel so this place is setup to be a true speakeasy spot. You can enter this bar through the exit sign, or you can check in at the restaurant inside of the hotel. The ambiance at this bar is romantic. The bar is very dark with candles everywhere. This place has great cocktails. The people who work here were extremely nice. I had the grilled cheese sandwich as an appetizer, which was average, tasted like a typical grilled cheese. If you are looking for a romantic, unique spot in SF, this place makes for a great date spot!

Yelp
Wanna impress someone gorgeous? I pride myself in discovering the city's hidden gems - so take my word for it: this spot is absolute perfection. The visual definition of the word "speakeasy": - on point cocktail menu/wine-whiskey selection; - intimate ambiance; - playing-hard-to-get brand; and - fantastic wait service. 1-week advance reservation rqd, $25 deposit, bar is behind the bookshelf of Cavalier/private entrance from the alley with passcode. Recommend: Brandy Alexander and the Lamb Cutlets. 10/10, would date here again!

Yelp
This is a really cool date place, probably one of the best finds in San Francisco. It isn't really for a full on dinner, in fact the menu stops at small plates and doesn't even continue to Entrees. That's totally OK though, it works best as a prelude to a night elsewhere or a place to go after dinner. Basically it's reservation only though their website. This sounds like a pain, but it's actually a great feature. Remember that time you found a really cool hidden bar only to take a date there and find it slammed with 1,000 tourists, tech bros and strangers 5 deep at the bar? That never happens here since there's a built in limit of seating space only. It's one of the only bars in SF you can actually have a conversation without having 15 people surrounding you yelling who knows what. Finally the service was really solid and friendly. I'm not sure what her name is, but the server in the Ramones shirt was great. She was friendly, funny, knowledgeable and everything else you'd hope for in a place like this. The decor is on point, the drinks are great and the menu items aren't at all overpriced. It's just the best version of a lounge in SF I've been to thus far.

Yelp
What a great, hidden gem in San Francisco! I only have positive things to say about Mariannes and I really do appreciate how limited they keep the bar through reservations. An intimate, speak easy the decor is awesome. Victorian lamps, plush seating, red paint, and some old school rock and roll posters around. Even the bathroom is a recreation of the Rolling Stones album so gotta check that out. Everybody is able to receive seating in the restaurant and enjoy conversation. The service was attentive and friendly. The cocktails are delicious! The one with the jalapeño was a bit too spicy for my taste, but everything was very tasty. Love the vintage glasses they use! Had the ham and cheese finger sandwiches (burrata and prosciutto) which was super tasty. Such an amazing spot. Would love the opportunity to come back again.
google avatar

Temi A.

Yelp
Dark, mellow, and swanky speakeasy. Music is chill (throwback Whitney, MJ, Beatles) We had the lamb schnitzel lollipops, and the beef fat fries. Lamb was way better than I expected, and as for the fries-they were good, but I thought they were going to be fried in beef fat, rather than the gravy like dip.... I could do without the beef fat. It used to be invite only, but just recently opened to the public and is connected to the Cavalier Restaurant and Hotel Zetta. It was my first time. Drinks are yum and stiff! I'm typically by a fan of gin, but the Honey Bang Me Sloe cocktail was great. There was a Thai chili brandy drink some of my guy friends ordered towards the end of the night-FIREEEEE! Good but the spice was real! Only downside is the cocktails are "mass made," so no substitutions to the signature cocktails unless you decide to create your own cocktail.. It's a nice venue for a small birthday party for ~30 people. I'd come back.

Yelp
***************************** 1408 *************************** It was my lucky night. I was so full from dinner at Benu. My colleague reminded me that I had a wine tasting to attend for wine industry people. I was StayCation at the St. Regis this past week. It's only a few blocks away. I wanted to burn off some calories. So I told her I would meet her there at the Marianne's room inside The Cavalier. I'm so glad I went. The room was lit up in candle lights. Comfortable couches, a small bar, all velvety, romantic, and so intimate. This reminded me the Red Room at the Raymond Winery... It feels luxurious, taken me back to the day of the high-society. We even had to tell the hostess the PASSWORD to get in. There were trays of cheese and charcuterie tower up at the tables. We then sipping Champagne, drinking Quintessa wines, and cocktails were flowing all night long. Service was impeccable. Servers were attentive, but not intrusive. The type of service you wish the dining scene in San Francisco should follow. I feel appreciative here for my dress, my makeup, my jewelry, and the effort I put on. It's the type of place that when you dress up for a night on the town and feel like you belong.

Yelp
This place is hella questionable. A menu with 4 cocktails? Overpriced bar food? 50's decor with 80's music? WTF? Save your money and go elsewhere. Way too extensive for what they are orffering. Much better options to be had.

Kwyn M.

Yelp
Mariannes is a great place to catch up and get great drinks with friends. The venue makes you feel like a VIP from the moment you enter.

Yelp
What a fun discovery! Located at the end of an alley and behind an unmarked red door, this place made me feel like we might need a secret password to get in. We tried on a Friday night but Marianne's was closed for a private party, so we went back Saturday. Shared a booth with another couple, but it was fine that way as the atmosphere is darkish and intimate and not really conducive to meeting others outside your own group. Go!

Yelp
Food & Drinks: (+) Brussel Sprouts Chips - wow these brussel sprouts actually makes me enjoy them! so simple and so good. Love the Lemon Zest! (+) Smoked Fingerling Potatoes - black garlic BBQ is sooo good! Takes the fingerling potatoes to another level here! (+) Honey Bang Me Sloe - That honey vodka is great! So much citrus in here which I am a fan of but if you do not like citrus in your drink this is not the one for ya. Service: The staff is super nice and always make sure you have a drink or something to eat here. The staff will take care of you! Vibes: Hip, Dark, and Classy vibes. You have to be escorted to the entrance/exit to this secret spot.

Yelp
Great experience at Marianne's. Andrew was super nice and helpful. The space is cute and intimate, not great for groups, but good atmosphere overall. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
Had a great time at this little speakeasy type of place. Drinks were great and the food was awesome. It's was a cool looking little place in a back room of the Cavalier. Quiet hangout that would be great for a date. Service was incredible. Food from the Cavalier was a surprise in that it was sooo delicious. The decor was fun and original. Don't forget t say hi to goat boy in the red sweater.

Yelp
So i dont say this lightly ... San Francisco is a city with some amazing bars and some amazing cocktails but I found a spot with 2 people that deserve some extraordinary recognition ... Chevk oit Marianne's ... its a hidden bar under the Zetta hotel on 5th and market and there is a bartender and a server that make an amazing team .... the bartender is CJ and the server is Christina and in my experience ... I HAVE NEVER .... had better cocktails and service prior to this ... mind you i have travelled the seven seas and ben to over 30 countries and 100s of cities ... try the paper plane or corps revivor no 2 and you will enjoy flavors that are literally amazing .... needless to say 5 stars and highly highly recomended

Yelp
The cocktail selection isn't great. The most disappointing / annoying thing was coming in to a full house at 11:30 PM and being being harassed by the server. She came by the table multiple times rudely reminding us that she dropped off the check. At about 11:45 she turned up the brightness on the lights and started blasting "closing time" even tho the bar was over half full. The hours on their website says they're open until 2:00 AM. Apparently, they close early when it's "slow" but we literally had to squeeze onto a couch next to a couple because there were no other tables open. Will definitely not be going back. Honestly, they should have just told us they were closed. Had to slam our over priced drinks. Really annoying and not a pleasant experience. Wow, and now they kicked everyone out and the people next to us couldn't even finish their drinks lol. What a joke! Lol. Tldr - have you ever seen everyone get kicked out of a half full bar 2 hours+ before their actual closing time? Lol it was a first for me.

Yelp
I don't want to say too much because I want this secret bar to remain a secret (shh!) but this spot it amazing. When we arrived at the Cavalier, our table was not ready yet and a friendly fellow patron showed us to Marianne's. Inside the dimly lit living-roomesque lounge, we never wanted to leave. Two of us ordered the punch and it was delicious with fresh rosemary. They also serve regular cocktails as well as a limited (and somewhat pricey) list of wines by the glass. At 7:45 pm, we were some of the only few people in Marianne's. Apparently it's sometimes closed for private parties - I would love to have a private party here! The bartender was very friendly and made delicious drinks. I look forward to heading back to Marianne's!

Yelp
Loved this place! I recently moved out here from NYC, where the speakeasy scene is pretty prominent, and I haven't had any luck with finding similar places out here in SF, but I have to say, this SF gem was a great find! We went after dinner, so we only had drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and some potato fingerlings (amazing btw!), but the service was exceptional. We weren't able to get the seats we wanted, so the hostess offered us a complimentary round (which was really going above and beyond), because we hadn't called ahead asking for specific seating or anything. A little on the pricy side, but perfect for date night or a chill night out with your girlfriends. Would (and will) definitely go back!

Yelp
My gf and I had a reservation here last night at 10pm. We stayed at the Zetta hotel which was attached to this little speakeasy and we were super excited to check it out (especially with all the good reviews it had here) upon arrival, this place had an insanely belligerent group that saturated the entire space in debauchery. Nobody was checking IDs (there was a child in here among the extremely inebriated crowd???) and moreover, nobody greeting us for our 10pm reservation. We decided to leave because this was not at all the experience we were looking for. Disappointed all in all and I'm giving this two stars because the actual venue looked really cool---just fell extremely short on experience, service, and responsibility.

Yelp
First thing you should do is MAKE A RESERVATION. Also if you don't show up, they will charge you. Besides that, it has a very cool 70s rock meets 19th century aesthetic. The drinks are delicious and there is also a food menu. The decor is mostly candle lit and the music isn't blazing loud where you can't hear yourself talk. Overall, must find this hide away spot.

Yelp
I've been a big fan of speak easies for awhile since living in New York and I really missed them. This is probably the closest parallel in San Francisco. The door is a bit hidden but don't worry-- usually the host is more than happy to give you a little bit of guidance if you find yourself a little lost :) Drinks are pricey but the decor is beautiful and everyone is very friendly... enjoy your time there and take a little break from the normal hustle ;)

Yelp
Last night (Dec 11) , we attended a reception for the wedding of my cousin. The food was excellent, cocktails amazing, room was warm and elegant. It was a such a beautiful evening. However, what set this apart was the service. The bartender was excellent and made a drink called The Country Lawyer that was great. But for us, the star of the show was a gentleman named Charlie who was handling the room. He was so attentive and kind to all of the attendees. He was relaxed and warm, but kept the room so clean and decluttered. Such excellent service that we had to ask his name when we left. If you do a private party in Marianne's or The Cavalier, request his service. We all know this less about the act of serving, but more about getting super kind and talented people to use those gifts to make days like these special. Such a pleasure!

Yelp
Speak easy vibe. Excellent suggestion for a date night. With a party of 10 people, I was able to have a conversation with my fellow acquaintances with a side of pinot noir. Not noisy which is always a plus when your a young professional! Service from the lady tonight was superb. Very sweet. I shall come back next time! It almost felt like I needed to know a secret password to get in! But I was cool enough to get by without having to know it! Thanks for excellent ambiance and awesome service! Cant wait to come back!

Yelp
Great place. Also, the bartender James was amazing. Made a special exception to let us in after their closing time, and then talked with us about the drinks, helping us choose exactly what we each wanted. The cocktails were delicious, and I loved the ambience as well.

Yelp
Good comfy place to enjoy a cocktail I just walked over from B&B and was hungry. Glad you guys serve food with alcohol. Food was good we had oysters, bone marrow, salad and another dish was all good but might want to up your cocktail game to B&B status. The strawberry fields was good but not as good as the 3 cocktails I had at B&B. If you guys up your cocktail game I would definitely stay longer because of the food and good drinks. I'm actually talking about the speak easy bar in the back and not the main restaurant.

Yelp
My friend's company hosted a fairly intimate holiday party here and I was lucky enough to be his +1. The decor is awesome, the staff are attentive and friendly, and the drinks are delicious. I'm a huge sucker for hidden bars and themed venues, so this was pretty much a dream come true. If you have the chance to step inside of Marianne's, definitely take it!

Yelp
I like this place. The only bummer is they close the kitchen at 11pm. I would recommend having your kitchen open a little later, or having some snacky type things available. Otherwise, the drinks are FANTASTIC! I had an Indian summer, and the basil salt rim had us all thrown off...it was crazy....in a good way! It's super cool, but still super comfortable. Perfect for a 3rd date ;-) ;-) ;-)

Yelp
This place was the perfect spot for after work/pre-dinner drinks. The candle lit atmosphere is perfect for a nice hang out with people who actually like talking while drinking down some of their fancy cocktails. The only reason it gets 4 stars is the price, but hey, that's SF for you. Would definitely go again in a heart beat.
