Maria’s Bread Sandwiches - Review - Collingswood - South Jersey - The Infatuation

"When you think of a South Jersey sandwich, your mind might go to something long, meaty, and greasy. Sandwiches at Maria’s Bread Sandwiches are elegant, balanced and flavorful, served in an adorable, colorful setting reminiscent of a tea party. While the sandwiches are definitely “cheffy,” they’re not overwrought—prepared by a team that knows how to source farm-fresh ingredients like Jersey tomatoes, Birchrun Hills cheese from Chester County, PA, and local salad greens. The lemonade is made from lemons, not powder, and plates are zhuzhed up with freshly grated parm and herbs. The service is correspondingly friendly, fast and welcoming. These are fine-dining standards in a place where you can dine in yoga pants. The care shows in the tight menu of breakfast and lunch options that go beyond very good sandwiches (the Kennett Square mushroom grilled cheese is our favorite) to include great salads like the milanese, topped with creamy and crunchy avocado and celery salad. Weekends add legit sourdough bagels to the menu. photo credit: Gab Bonghi photo credit: Gab Bonghi photo credit: Gab Bonghi photo credit: Gab Bonghi photo credit: Gab Bonghi photo credit: Gab Bonghi Pause Unmute The restaurant occupies two store fronts, one for takeout and the barista and the other, which serves as a dining room. Join remote workers eating while half-listening to their zoom meeting and local moms and babies meeting up for lunch in the charming dining room with mismatched furniture and a library of hot sauces.  Or takeout and raise your work lunch game with a sandwich that will make your coworkers jealous. Food Rundown Whitefish Salad Toast It’s right there in the name—the bread is the star at Maria’s. Any of the toasts are a good bet, but if you, like us, are on avocado overload, get the whitefish. It’s Jewish deli-quality but comes in a less messy portion with fresh cracked pepper. photo credit: Gab Bonghi Mushroom Grilled Cheese Sandwich This is not your mother's grilled cheese. This beauty incorporates Kennett Square mushrooms and Birchrun Hills cheddar to be fancy but still features good-old american cheese for meltability and familiarity. This is a smart sandwich. photo credit: Gab Bonghi Milanese At a place called Maria’s Bread Sandwiches, it may seem silly to order a salad, but the Milanese may beat the sandwiches. A plumper-than-usual cutlet of breaded chicken is fried to still juicy, sliced, and topped with a crispy-crunchy-creamy avocado celery salad. This is a must order and is up there with the chicken caesar from Carina Sorella. photo credit: Gab Bonghi" - Jonathan Deutsch

Best Restaurants and Bars in Collingswood, New Jersey, Near Philly | Eater Philly

"Excellent sandwiches aren’t thrown together; they’re carefully constructed with a great level of attention to detail, like at Maria’s Bread Sandwiches. Breakfast is served all day, but order early if you want to upgrade a classic breakfast sandwich from sourdough bread to a bagel. For lunch, the Down the Shore chicken salad sandwich has a deeply satisfying zestfulness thanks to a little dash of Old Bay. Check Instagram for seasonal specials and stop by on Monday evenings for pizza parties." - Ernest Owens

I had an amazing experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every dish exceeded expectations, and you can tell a lot of care goes into the preparation. What truly stood out was the service. The staff was warm, attentive, and genuinely cared about making our visit special. They were knowledgeable about the menu and offered excellent recommendations. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a great meal and top-tier hospitality. Can’t wait to come back!

Google
Can’t recommend Maria’s Bread Sandwiches enough! The food, the vibe, the service—everything was just so good. We stopped by for a Sunday morning breakfast, and it was the perfect way to start our day!! I got the avocado toast, and it seriously was the best I’ve ever had, so much flavor in every bite. My friend had the bacon, egg, and cheese on an everything bagel and kept talking about how fresh the bagel was. We also both got iced vanilla lattes which were super yummy! Ordering was very easy as well, they have scan codes at every table so you can pull up the menu, see your table number, and pay all in one go. Super convenient and made our experience even better. Definitely coming back soon!!!

Maria’s Bread Sandwiches is the perfect lunch spot—and an even better way to start your day while strolling through the charming streets of Collingswood. We tried the roast beef and chicken salad sandwiches, plus a lemonade and coffee, and everything was excellent. Fresh, flavorful, and made with care. The decor is so cute and aesthetic—cozy, welcoming, and just adds to the whole experience. Can’t wait to go back!

Went there for a lunch date with my girlfriend and we had the best time. The vibe and hospitality set the vibe for a great sit in experience. Then we had the roast beef sandwich which was phenomenal. We also had the grilled cheese with mushrooms which was combined with homemade NJ Tomato soup. The owner Sam came out and assured us that we were having a great meal. To top it all off we had a slice of the cake of the day which was a pistachio oil cake with lemon icing that was mouth watering. This is a great spot for a sit down and vibe lunch or even pick up and go as I saw many people coming and going while we there.

Google
Funny situation happened to me. But I would like to leave big appreciation to guys who works there. My first time order wasn’t good and as they said I made wrong choice with bagel due to their saltiness. It happened when I wrote my review about that and guy showed up and said he wants to remake my order and it was good move from them. Not every place do cares about their customers but this place does.

Google
I stopped by for a quick bite and ended up staying longer than expected because everything was so good. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich and it was amazing—fresh ingredients, great flavor, and generous portions. The prices are very reasonable for the quality you get. Will definitely be coming back and bringing friends next time

Google
Amazing, fresh ingredients!! Everything is so yummy and the atmosphere is great! Can’t go wrong with any menu item — we loved our afternoon here!

Google
Stopped in with the family today and everything was delicious. I started with a macchiato topped with latte art that was very flavorful and bold. They even gave my toddler some milk in her own coffee cup and she loved it. The staff were very kind (even when my toddler was running around with a croissant leaving a trail behind her lol). We ordered the mushroom grilled cheese, avocado toast, tomato soup, and the chicken salad sandwich (I got it on a croissant). All of the dishes were fantastic but the tomato soup and the chicken salad were unbelievable. From looks to taste you can immediately tell how fresh the ingredients are. We will absolutely be coming back soon!

Yelp
It's straight up, peace love and sandwiches in Collingswood- Welcome to Maria's Bread Sandwiches! Located on Haddon Ave at the junction of W Collings Ave, this sit-in or take out spot has all of the fixings for a perfect breakfast or lunch. Grateful Dead plays on the radio, hot coffee, simple sandwiches. Friendly, quick service. It's the perfect brunch spot! MUSHROOM GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH- local mushrooms on sourdough w/ Sue's cheddar & cooper sharp NJ TOMATO SOUP- creamy & dreamy made w/ NJ's finest tomatoes

Yelp
Wish I hadn't waited so long to try this place out considering it's the next town over. One side is takeout and the other side has seating. I ordered takeout through a QR code on the seating side, when my order was ready I popped into the other side, picked up my food and took it back over. I got the grilled cheese with mushrooms and the tomato soup. Grilled cheese was filled with mushrooms and delicious cheese and the tomato soup was zesty and flavorful. I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Simply put, the best spot in Collingswood. The menu is always fun and evolving. They do pizza on Friday nights that rivals any place around, Philly included.
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
Food is ok but $14 for a THIN egg and bacon sandwich on lackluster bread? Hard to justify that. Also, the fan in the dining room is stacked with dust- made eating a little less appetizing.
google avatar

Emily W.

Yelp
Definitely will be trying to get here more often! The staff was extremely friendly and understanding with new customers. They explained the ordering process and their adorable seating area right next door to the shop. There is plenty of room and is a welcoming space. After leaving your phone number, you get a text when the order is ready. The avocado toast was extremely flavorful. Also, it had the perfect amount of heat from their addition of chili oil. Breakfast salad was a unique concept and I loved how it had a little bit of everything (egg, hashbrown, sourdough toast, greens, lentils, cheese, etc.) Can't wait to come back for their lunch items or a daily special found on instagram.
google avatar

Matthew D.

Yelp
Really good and unique breakfast sandwiches. The egg, cheese, and hash brown sandwich is amazing. In fact, all their food is.

Yelp
After following Maria's on Instagram for sometime, I was finally in the area and decided to have lunch here. Maria's is made up of two store fronts. The one on the right is the counter where you can order your meal - check out the menu online or on their ipad (all ordering done here). The one on the left is the seating area - it's the cutest place to dine - you can also order your meal online from here. I opted for the BLT. IT was big, the ingredients were fresh, the bread was delicious - an amazing sandwich. A bonus - Maria herself was there to welcome us and give us some background on the restaurant (she's a artist and her husband a chef). We hope to be back soon!

Yelp
Here are all the reasons why I am happy to welcome Maria's to the neighborhood: 1. The sandwiches are good. My partner got the Down The Shore Chicken Salad Sandwich (which I forgot to get a picture of - whoops) and the chicken salad is itself was incredibly seasoned. We loved the flavor. 2. The staff seems like a family and treats guests like family too. 3. The prices are fair and I'm not entitled. It never fails to surprise me how people can think a sandwich from a small, local business should cost $10. This isn't Wawa. Rents on Haddon Ave are high. Paying staff members living wages is expensive. Sheeeeesh! Anyway, Maria's gets five stars from me. Hurray!

Kiera M.

Yelp
On my life this is the softest, most fluffy bagel I have ever had in my life. Clearly so fresh. My only complaint is their everything seasoning has fennel seeds (I think) and it is overpowering Still a 4/5 because that's my personal taste but it's great quality, the customer service was lovely, and their biscuits and gravy was also delicious!!

Jesse H.

Yelp
$18 for a small bologna sandwich. Nothing else really needs to be said. And no it's nothing special.

Yelp
What a wonderful addition to Collingswood. Such a cute place with really great food. I came here with a friend on a whim. We were slated to go somewhere else and the day of our lunch my friend suggested Maria's since it is new and neither of us have been here before. Maria's has touch screens for ordering like you would find at wawa or many other establishments these days. Really easy if you are on the phone with someone, want to order your food and do not wish to engage with anyone else. We met Maria while we were ordering our food, she was lovely. She gave us some information about the place, their concept, how long they have been there, etc. We went next door to the dining area and when our food was ready, we dug in. Everything was so delicious. I loved it as did my friend. I saw that one reviewer mentioned the price. Please note this is a small business offering really delicious food prepared to order on a small scale. They are not ordering cheese by the ton and thus probably not getting those high wholesale discounts some chains get. If you are looking for high volume discounts, there are places of that. If you are looking for really good food, lovingly prepared by people who live in your community and care about your experience then come give Maria's a try. Grilled cheese and mushroom soup....chef's kiss.

Yelp
Such a perfect spot for coffee, breakfast, and lunch! The breakfast salad is AMAZING as well as their breakfast sandwich :) owners are super friendly and welcoming. They have an adorable seating area if you need a break from Working at home, you can your computer and check your email from there. Can't wait to eat their again! Kid friendly too!!
google avatar

Yelp
I have basically only had the chocolate cake from this place and now I dream of that cake. Please send help... Ideally in the form of cake
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to grab takeout. Delicious sandwiches and homemade soup as well as breakfast. I highly recommend the chicken salad sandwich. I am not a chicken salad person, however, this is top notch. It's the old bay in the mixture for me & it's loaded with avocado, plus the bread... yum! Orders are ready quickly & the food is always fresh.

Yelp
Love this great little lunch spot ! Quality ingredients & smiling faces is what they are all about. There is a super cute side room for you to enjoy your lunch. Two thumbs up !
google avatar

Yelp
Yum what a local gem! Absolutely love this little local shop, owner is very pleasant and always so helpful! The cinnamon roll is so amazing
google avatar

Kate L.

Yelp
If you like spending $14 on a small chicken salad sandwich with a pickle on the side, then you'll love this place. Listen, the sandwich was good. I would spend maybe $10 on a sandwich of that caliber. And the place was cute, I would definitely sit there with a cup of coffee and an overpriced pastry. But this is one of those places that feels like you're paying for the interior design and the cool factor, and I guess people are ok with that based on these reviews. Sadly, places like this (and the people who love them) are one of the reasons I left Philly and I guess they've found me.
google avatar

Martha R.

Yelp
I had the biscuits and gravy with some scrambled eggs! My favorite breakfast, fluffy eggs, fluffy biscuit and good gravy! I also got a slice of chocolate cake to go. Had it after dinner with a nice glass of Cabernet . So good. Wish this place was closer but I'll definitely go back to try all the sandwiches. It's got the kind of vibe I like. Cool but not pretentious. Hand painted mural on the wall is perty and fun. I recommend!
google avatar

Ben M.

Yelp
The food is great and reasonably priced. The owners are cool as hell and staff are extremely nice. This is the only little spot in Collingswood that has such a uniquely groovy vibe where you can relax with a MacBook, nibble on good food, and people watch. Highly recommend the egg sandwich, biscuit and gray, and hash brown that's crispy AF!
google avatar

Grace H.

Yelp
I kind of laughed when I saw avocado toast on the menu, because of course a brunch spot would have avocado toast. When I read the description though, I was intrigued. A jammy egg? Chili oil? I had to get it. I cannot tell a lie, it was the best avocado toast I have ever had in my life - and this is coming from a millennial who eats so much avocado toast I won't be able to afford a house. I live in Chicago and am counting down the days until I visit family again and can get another avocado toast from Maria's and sit in their super cute dining area.

Katelyn M.

Yelp
Ordered the Down the Shore chicken sandwich and added tomato to it. All fresh ingredients, great flavor on the chicken salad

Vanessa V.

Yelp
Ordered a hot coffee, it was not good not even with cream and sugar added. The french toast strips was burnt toast strips with a maple sauce on the side (sauce was good) my daughter did not even eat it. Everything went into the trash!
google avatar

KJ S.

Yelp
Everything is tasty here. I love that they run specials often so it draws you back to try something new. The coffee is good here too. The seating area is adorable and comfortable to sit and chill for a bit. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that every time I go I drop $25 for a sandwich and coffee, and I'm still hungry an hour later. Having said that, I still find myself going back every couple of weeks. So I guess I'm cheap but I like good flavors.
google avatar

Jason F.

Yelp
I'm thrilled to finally have a great cappuccino in Collingswood. Also, they serve one of the best chicken salad sandwiches I've had in a long time. The dine-in space next door is super cozy too.
google avatar

Collin R.

Yelp
I think about a lot of things but one thought that has stuck in my brain is an establishment with amazing food AND coffee. THIS PLACE IS IT. THE. ONE. STOP. SHOP. I seriously can't reiterate it enough. I love the food and coffee from this place. Everything is good, go try it
google avatar

Michael K.

Yelp
My new fav spot in Collingswood! We stopped in for lunch and loved the vibe--super cozy, friendly staff, and great music playing in the background. I had the chopped salad and added poached tuna, which was done to perfection. Hash browns on the side--get these with whatever you order and you will be happy. Others in our group had the avocado toast and the grilled cheese, excellent all around. Even the cup of coffee was spot on. Also, don't leave without getting some yummy pastries and chocolate cake, which we got to go and made us instantly talk about the next time we're coming back.
google avatar

Yelp
We have been waiting for a new neighborhood spot to fill this location and the Saturday morning breakfast sammie and coffee void! We were really impressed with the simple approachable menu but expectations were exceeded. The barista's were extremely friendly and talented, one of the best chai latte's I have had in a while. These aren't just basic sandwiches either, you can tell that every menu item is thoughtfully executed by a talented chef using great ingredients - love mighty bread co.! We will definitely be back to try some lunch items.
google avatar

Meghan E.

Yelp
This place is a really cute cafe with great coffee and amazing sandwiches. Maybe the best sausage egg and cheese I've ever had. Love the contactless ordering right from your phone, but you can order from the counter if you prefer. Totally worth the drive from the city!!!
google avatar

Bonnie S.

Yelp
I would give this place 1000 stars. The egg sandwich was soooooo cheesey and delicious. The chocolate cake is moist and super chocolateeeeeee. This will be our weekly treat. Everybody should come and sit on the cool couches and drink some delicious tea.
google avatar

Jason B.

Yelp
Cool new neighborhood spot! Stopped by last weekend for a coffee and breakfast sandwich. Look forward to coming back and trying some more items.

John G.

Yelp
I stopped by on the second day of their opening. I was pretty excited to try this new boutique sandwich shop. At the counter I was met by Maria who was very friendly and asked if I had any questions. They had a delicious looking assortment of pastries and an amazing looking chocolate cake. I tried the mushroom grilled cheese and tomato soup and a coffee beverage. The soup was amazing and the grilled cheese was quite possibly the best I ever had. They had great coffee and I got a slide of cake to enjoy later and it was excellent. They have a cozy seating area and the place was bustling with people and everyone looked like they were enjoying their sandwiches. Try this place out I'm sure you will love it.

Linda W.

Yelp
Oh. My. Maria. I finally made it over to the shop for a pick-up lunch order, having enjoyed their egg, cheese, and hash brown breakfast sandwich a while back (it was soooooo good that I keep dreaming about it!). This time we ordered the avocado toast and tuna toast both with Jersey tomato added, tomato soup, and a slice of blueberry pie. Everything was delicious. So delicious that although I really wanted to take a pic of everything for a review, I couldn't stop eating. The toast in particular. Incredible. We will definitely be back.

Andrew B.

Yelp
Smells like sandwiches, looks like sandwiches, taste like sandwiches....but...the best you've ever freaking had! Wow! amazing! So yummy! I wish I was this savvy in my kitch!

Jill K.

Yelp
Literally the best sandwich I've ever had! Super simple and super delicious. Perfect option for a high quality grab and go but if you get an opportunity check out the dinning area- it is absolutely adorable!

Amy G.

Yelp
We are so excited that this beautiful shop has opened down the street from us since we moved to Collingswood last year. The space is unique and gorgeous. The walls are hand-painted with cheerful and whimsical patterns, lending a coziness to the space. I have already headed over a few times to meet friends and I even had an informal meeting here. The soundtrack is unassuming and chill. I have enjoyed a cappuccino with a huge croissant, and have my eye on the chocolate cake, but really, as promised, the sandwiches are the main event! So far, my favorites were the special Lebanon bologna sandwich, and the decadent mushroom grilled cheese. My tween heartily approved of his PB&J. I'm planning to eat my way through the menu. I read that the owners are using locally sourced ingredients, which I appreciate. It seems Scott and Maria have put a lot of love into every detail of this business, and as a result there is a lot TO LOVE at Maria's Bread Sandwiches.
