"Aside from being one of the city’s best slashies (a bar-liquor store combo), Maria’s Packaged Goods has one of our favorite patios in Bridgeport. There’s plenty of room, so it’s great for spontaneous group hangs while sipping a spicy house margarita or any of their unique seasonal concoctions. Plus, if anyone gets hungry, you can always visit Kimski next door and bring over a bulgogi cheesesteak, a housemade polish topped with a kimchi-sauerkraut hybrid, and other Korean-Polish dishes." - adrian kane, veda kilaru, john ringor
"Chicagoans go feral for any outdoor space with booze, but this classic Bridgeport slashie is actually worth that level of excitement. Their spacious patio is perfect for spontaneous group hangs with ginger beer-infused cocktails and "krautchi"-topped polish sausages from Kimski, the excellent Korean-Polish spot next door. Throw in rotating DJ sets, open mics, and pop-ups highlighting South Side restaurants, and you’ll have plenty of reasons to become a Maria’s regular this summer." - nick allen, john ringor
"Maria’s has served Bridgeport well in various capacities. It’s a small liquor store with a mighty beer selection. Walk by the cashier and pass through two bars with old-school charm. Find a deep beer selection, classic cocktails, and even beer from the owners’ brewery, Marz. Food comes from Kimski, chef Won Kim’s neighborhood staple that launched an ambitious new menu in spring 2023." - Ashok Selvam
"A community-focused bar has paused scheduled DJ sets and open-mic nights after the city issued a cease-and-desist for hosting events without the required Public Place of Amusement (PPA) license, which is needed for gatherings over 100 people. Ownership says they were unaware of the requirement, have since applied for the PPA, and that the absence of the license will not affect food-focused events." - Ashok Selvam
"A Bridgeport bar launching a Tuesday Patio Jam to bring the Backyard-BBQ-style outdoor food-party vibe to the South Side, running weekly from late May through September. The series, modeled on successful summer programs elsewhere, is curated to spotlight lesser-known neighborhood chefs and create a level, communal setting where guests can try diverse vendors while enjoying patio cocktails." - Ashok Selvam
