Yelp Review 2023 #41:
My sister suggested we come here because it has 4.5 stars on Yelp. I feel like I was completely mislead by the word "FINE" in their name and the professional photos of their food. I was in my gym outfit feeling bad that I'm going to a fine establishment underdressed. I typed in the address on my phone and the area I'm driving in kept getting sketchier and sketchier. Siri told me to turn left into the parking lot and obviously, Siri must be mistaken because nothing looked like a FINE Indian restaurant where she told me to turn. But Siri told me to make a U-turn and at that point, I was like whatever! I drove around the parking lot. And finally saw Marigold. Not what I had envisioned but ok.
The place is very casual. We got seated. A few tables. Melamine plates, cloth napkins, silverware, bottled water, soda in can, mango lassi in disposable Dixie cups in the fridge, Bollywood music videos on the TV - arena + Selena Gomez video comes on and got skipped to another Ranbir Kapoor video.
Our server was so sweet though. He asked us how our day was and was like "it's good to see you!" You too, sir, you too! There was sincerity and absolute pleasure in what he does and it's rare to see that nowadays.
On with the food. They gave us papadum with mint/ cilantro (Hari) chutney, and tamarind chutney while we waited for our food. I normally get saag paneer, samosa, chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, chicken tandoori, mango lassi, and gulab jamun. But I saw they have momo so I tried to order that as an appetizer but it's only available in the morning.
Chicken Samosa:
Less puffy than most samosas I've had. The chicken filling was a bit spicy and dry - I put hari chutney from the plate of papadum to moisten the filling. 2.5/5
Shrimp Tandoori:
Served on a sizzling plate. Good flavor, a little spice to it. 4/5
Chicken Tikka Masala:
This is a staple for me every time I go to an Indian restaurant. It's my go-to...my safety net because every decent Indian knows how to make this dish, right? Their spice level is from 0-10. We got 4/10 because I can't do super spicy food. But I could've gone up to a 5-6, I think. My sister said it was salty. It tasted fine to me. The chicken breast pieces were good. 4/5
Garlic Naan:
A warm garlicky flatbread to scoop up chicken tikka masala. One order is enough for 2 people. One of my favorites! 4/5
Mango Lassi:
I wish it was served in a glass or a plastic Coca-Cola cup instead of a Dixie cup. It's already pre-made and chilling in the fridge. It was thick and delicious. Very bright orange. 3/5
To me, foodwise...this place is a 3/5. Service 4.5/5. Ambiance 2/5.
