"Now-shuttered, Marigold Kitchen's owners were behind the short-lived Talk." - Erin Russell

"Set in a historic Victorian house, I learned Marigold Kitchen — the BYOB on 45th and Larchwood known for its avant-garde tasting menu — will close for good this week, with its final night on Thursday, January 31. Open in its current tasting-menu format for about a decade, it couldn’t survive the abrupt shutter of its sister spot Talk. The building has housed a restaurant since the 1930s and was purchased by the Rastelli family in the late 1950s (a Rastelli still owns the building); it went through several incarnations before Steve Cook took over the space in 2004 and hired Mike Solomonov. Robert Halpern bought Marigold in 2009 and turned it into the tasting-menu-only destination it later became. Tim Lanza and Andrew Kochan, who were chefs under Halpern and took over ownership in 2014, ran the intimate West Philly BYOB, joined in May 2018 by chef Eric Leveille from the now-closed Whetstone Tavern, and focused on classic and new flavor combinations, contemporary cooking techniques, and local, seasonal ingredients." - Rachel Vigoda
"Marigold Kitchen is located inside a nondescript Victorian townhouse in West Philly, and everything they do here is different. The food is vaguely Nordic (for now), but the best way to describe it is “experimental.” They’re always changing up the tasting menus and putting together gorgeous dishes that mix a ton of seemingly random ingredients, but are all excellent for the most part. And, if nothing else, you’ll have one of the most interesting meals in Philly when you come here." - Sydney McElwee

"In West Philly, Marigold Kitchen is offering a 15-course feast that will include king crab, Wagyu beef, pheasant, lamb, white Alba truffles, and numerous other bites; the restaurant is BYOB and reservations with a credit card to hold the table are recommended." - Sarah Maiellano

"A West Philly standout, Marigold Kitchen is a BYOB operation associated with Talk's owners; unlike Talk it does not have a liquor license. Eric Leveille recently left the about-to-close Whetstone Tavern to take over the kitchen at Marigold last month." - Rachel Vigoda
