Downtown’s sunny standby since 2001, praised by the Wisconsin State Journal and name‑checked in national travel roundups. Order the duck confit hash or seasonal pancake, then people‑watch steps from the Capitol and the farmers’ market.

Pretty good food but a bit bland like it wasn't seasoned enough. I had the marigold breakfast sandwich and it was a bit too much bread and needed some spinach or some other greens. Well probably be back to try something else because the food was made and cooked well. This place feels like it has great potential but fell a bit flat for our first time.

Full disclosure - you will wait, and it will be worth every single minute. if there's no line, you might be in the wrong place. The efficiency of the front of house staff, from the greeter, to the counter staff, to the expediters, was unmatched in my experience and is likely a large part of their continued success. I'm from (south) Florida and the Cubano couldn't have been better if I had been sitting at a South Beach café. The food was exciting, refreshing, and delicious. Marigold Kitchen is a gem in downtown Madison.

Google
This is my favorite breakfast place in Madison, it’s in a good and convenient location, especially if you want to go to the farmers market, the atmosphere is so good, there are plenty of vegetarian options, and if you time it right then you won’t have to wait long. You order at the counter and get your own water. They bring you your food. A little pricey all things considered, especially once you add gratuity. How much do you add when you order at the counter and have to get your own water? 10%, 15%? I usually do 20% but seems not quite right. They probably include tax in the amount they are calculating the gratuity on. You’ll significantly improve your chances of getting a table sooner the smaller the group of people you go with—2-3 is faster, and if you go just a teeny bit earlier in the morning you’ll get a table sooner too—none of which is not surprising but is helpful.

We went for a Friday brunch and it was super busy, but the staff got us seated almost right away. That was a fun surprise! Then you order at the counter, so there isn’t a wait for that either. The food was tasty and the coffee was great!

Google
Was super crowded at lunchtime and entirely full with a waiting time of 20 minutes (estimated). I got a turkey sandwich to go. Took about ten minutes. No complaints at all. Was certainly loud inside, so not best for lunchtime discussions. Next time I go I'll pick a between breakfast and lunch time slot. Lol. Good food. Best sandwich I've ever had, no, but great for the area. Might do breakfast there tomorrow. Staff was very helpful for a tourist who didn't know what to do a super crowded place.

Google
Cute place with a clearly labeled menu for gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan. Many options for all of them. The staff is kind, knowledgeable, and patient with questions about food allergies. I felt very safe eating here with celiac disease and even enjoyed chilaquiles for the first time in 20 years! It was full of flavor and freshness! Fresh squeezed orange juice too! My favorite breakfast I’ve gotten probably ever!

Google
The place is a bit over crowded and overated. When you finally get a seat the place is noisy. Service is swift, food nicely served but some stuff(hush brown?potatoes?) tasted a bit overcooked. Coffee and bacon were excellent.

Google
Outstanding vibe and incredible food! We came for a college tour, and I want to come back just for the food! 20 minute wait outside on a sunny Sunday morning for a table. The decor and fresh flowers were so fun!

Yelp
The menu here is fantastic. I'm confident there is something for everyone on this menu. Marigold Kitchen nails the customer experience. From walking you through how ordering works to cleaning tables seconds after someone leaves. Every staff member was friendly and the space felt very upbeat and alive! Now to the best part; the food. Every plate was rich in flavor and the servings were generous. I look forward to coming back and trying their lunch menu!

Yelp
We had a great experience here overall! The food was excellent--flavorful, light, and refreshingly portioned like a human actually intends to eat it (no mountain of potatoes on the side, thank you very much). Service was impressively efficient, too. It's not a traditional sit-down restaurant--you line up, order at the counter, and your food is brought out pretty quickly. Tables turn over fast, and for such a small space with high demand, the system works really well. The space itself is bright and cheerful, which adds to the overall experience.

Yelp
Such a great spot for an "in & out" type of lunch (if you don't want to rush this is also a great atmosphere to just enjoy) The food came out very quick and the staff was friendly and attentive. All staff members seemed hands on and helpful with all tasks! They have a great variety of breakfast/brunch/ items and a good amount of vegetarian items too. Not terribly pricey.

Yelp
Delicious brunch w hearty portions and lots of Mexican influenced lunch options. Lots of seating and plug outlets to make it comfortable for a long stay.

Yelp
What a great place! This came up on multiple list for best breakfast in Madison. We opted to walk over here first before we visited the farmers market that is around the capital.(awesome btw so check that out too). There was a short Q while we waited. We were able to dine inside. They give you a menu so you are prepared to order because they want to keep the timings moving along. So we ordered at the counter and then took our number and sat at the table that was assigned to us. The food tasted freshly prepared and the portions were very good. Although it's one of the more pricier options in the neighborhood it was still very delicious. Service was very friendly and efficient. It has a very cool earthy vibe inside. Would return.

Yelp
One of my fav breakfast spots in Madison. Right off the square in a super cute space. We were here on a Saturday so it was busy but there were only two of us so we got in almost right away. The line can look intimidating but it moves quickly. It's also nice in the summer because they have outdoor seating/more tables. You order at the counter and then go to the table the host directs you to. I had to go with the pancakes with a side of egg and bacon. It was also a chilly morning so a hot chai latte hit the spot. You can't forget about the freshly squeezed orange juice. I get it every time. SO GOOD! It's always busy in there and can be loud but the food is delicious and the atmosphere is cozy. A must stop brunch spot in Madison!

Yelp
Five Stars all the way. Incredble breakfast brunch place right off the Capitol Square. Nice bright place, service is friendly, workers are happy. Loved the Huevos Rancheros dish. The Anodyne coffee is tasty. They had a few specials going that looked interesting. Good place for biz travelers, co-worker meetups, small families. 100% will return when I'm back in Madison.

Yelp
If you are willing to wait in the line to get into marigold I fully believe it's worth the wait! I went with some friends for brunch and waited about 30 minutes in line. They took our order in line and by the time we got seated our food was ready within 10 minutes. I was very impressed with the quality of food and timing with the amount of guest they were serving. The restaurant is lively and a bit loud at times but great if you want to catch up with friends! They are so creative with their menu and have super fun flavors that rotate with the seasons!

Yelp
Busy breakfast spot!! We arrived on a Sunday a few minutes before opening - within 15 minutes people were lined up out the door. I suggest looking at the menu online before arriving. Order at the counter, take a number, a server brings the meal. Fun eclectic atmosphere & friendly staff. I like that they have several vegan choices clearly labeled & offer meat & dairy for others (my hubby). He had a ham & cheese omelette, said it was delicious, large portion too! I had the tofu scramble which was different, I liked the addition of black beans but the sweet potatoes were a little soft & a salsa or tomato sauce seemed too sweet. But good. The fresh greens salad was crisp & flavorful.

Yelp
This place was very cutely decorated and lively. We did not have to wait in a line. Their churro latte was sweet and yummy. The huevos rancheros was good with salsa and hot sauce and adding the chorizo. The pancakes were ok, could definitely taste the bulgar wheat which made it kind of flavorless but we covered it in syrup and compote

Yelp
Visited this morning for the first time and can't believe I've never been here before! While they don't take reservations and parking can be a challenge, everything goes so quickly and is run so smoothly. We arrived and the place was full except for two counter bar seats. The hostess offered those to us and we accepted. She gave us our table number and we ordered at the counter. Even though it was full, the staff were so cheerful and pleasant. We grabbed waters from the water station and sat down. It was so cute inside although it is a little loud when full since it's so tiny. I ordered a Mexican hot chocolate and the chili poached eggs while my friend ordered a bloody Mary and the chorizo and sweet corn hash omelette. Everything came quickly, so quickly even that our food actually arrived before our drinks. The Mexican hot chocolate was the perfect combination of sweet and spicy, plus the perfect temperature. My eggs were perfect too and I liked that they came with prosciutto, greens, and rosemary bread. I added avocado which was pricy but worth it to have a little more going on on the plate. My friend's bloody Mary and omelette were also great. The bloody Mary was so thick and had really good horseradish, while the omelette was so stuffed that she couldn't eat it all with the potatoes. Our food was excellent and the plates we saw coming out all around us looked amazing as well, so I'd love to come back another time to try more of the menu. Based on this visit, it should be great!

Yelp
Sunday brunch today with a gal pal at Marigold Kitchen downtown Madison! They'll have you wait outside until a table is ready and you will place your order at the counter before taking a seat at a table inside or outside. Vibes are light and happy inside! The sausage that I got with my breakfast were scrumptious and the orange glaze on the scone was SO good! The breakfast potatoes were the only item that I wasn't a huge fan of. I had an iced coffee which was very flavorful and delish. All in all, I would definitely visit again. Follow me on Instagram at yelpershawn for more reviews!

Yelp
Delicious meal ! We came to Marigold 6 years ago when we were married and today we celebrated our 6 th anniversary . The owners have changed but the food is still just as fresh and wonderful . The service was really top notch and loved the decor .

Yelp
On a Friday morning, Marigold Kitchen was busy, but was moving quickly. We did not have to wait long to order or find a seat inside the restaurant. When you arrive you order at the counter and your food is brought out to you so you can find your own seating when something opens up. The restaurant was cute and open kitchen concept. I ordered the Iced Salted Maple Latte and the Marigold Breakfast Burrito. The iced latte was yummy, with maple syrup, cinnamon, and sea salt. The Marigold Breakfast burrito was unique with sweet potatoes, I liked this because I usually don't see this as a breakfast option but it was on the sweeter side. The best part of this meal was the Salsa Verde Citrus Slaw, I have not had anything like this and want to add it to everything at this point.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast spot! The food here is delicious no matter what you order. My favorite is the chilaquiles. You order at the counter. They give you a number, and the food is brought to your table when it is ready. Seating is limited, so on weekends for brunch, there is routinely a long line outside. The staff seemed to have figured out how to facilitate busy weekend crowds much better than they did years ago. When there is a long line, they hand out numbers. They also help direct people to seating. While the food is excellent, there are several restaurants within a 1 minute walk that also have amazing brunch, so I don't think it is worth standing in a long line on weekends when you can get immediate service nearby. However, this is a top choice on weekdays when there's no wait.
google avatar

Ashley J.

Yelp
Marigold is such a good brunch spot! Located right off the square they do not take reservations on the weekend so there will definitely be a line because the food is that good. Once you go inside, you do place your order at the counter and then they assign you to a specific table and will bring your food out to you. Everything I've tried has been delicious, whether you're craving sweet or savory. The potatoes are delicious, but they can certainly be oily so proceed with caution. The rosemary sourdough is one of my favorite breads. Give it a visit if you are in the area!

Yelp
Planned a short girls day trip to Madison and someone recommended we stop at Marigold for lunch. It was such a great recommendation. The restaurant is so cozy and cute and the food was delicious. Portions were HUGE!! I could not finish my dish. Even the side of soup was fairly big. I had the quesadilla which was a little spicy but absolutely delicious. My favorite, however, has to be their sausage soup.
google avatar

Yelp
We came to marigolds after the farmers market and despite the long line out the door, we were seated within 20 minutes. We each got drinks, and the lattes were very good! I recommend trying their specialty ones, it wasn't too sweet but definitely flavorful. I got the chilaquiles and they were delicious, the French toast looked decadent as well. My brother said he always gets the breakfast sandwich and a side of potatoes as well! It was so nice to be able to sit out on the patio and see a sliver of monona. Definitely will check out again when we are back in town!

Yelp
If there's a wait, get a #; they'll call you when your table is ready. You take your# with you to the counter to order food and drinks; pay; self serve water. I had my 1st ginger turmeric almond milk latte w espresso- delicious! For breakfast we ordered a chix quesadilla, and a sweet potato kale hash w pesto and over medium eggs. Food was beautiful presented and as tasty as pretty. Although we didn't have any, pastries looked good- muffins, various scones, and macaroon. They have a couple seats at the tall counter, several stand up tables by front windows, 2-tops,4-tops, and tables to combine for larger parties. Lovely setting; quality food...yes!

Yelp
Stopped in on a beautiful Sunday morning for breakfast. First tip - don't let the line scare you off. It moves quickly, and they have a system for seating and ordering. They also provide menus to look at while you're waiting so you're ready to order when it's your turn. Servers were all very friendly. After brining our food items and coffee, they assisted with boxes and to-go cups. One thing to note is that there isn't really table service. This wasn't an issue or even inconvenience, but something to know prior to dining that is something you are wanting. We all had different items, and loved everything we had. The pumpkin pancake was especially delicious - not overwhelmingly "pumpkiny" or sweet. We can't wait to visit again!

Yelp
I've been here a half dozen times for breakfast meetings. It's always been a very busy place! The service is fast and friendly. One of my favorite things I've ordered is the ham and Gruyère omelette. Such great portion sizes. Everything was well prepared. I didn't care for the potatoes but that's only because I don't love spicy food. It wasn't overwhelmingly spicy but just wasn't for me. The iced vanilla coffee was also great! I'll be back to try the lunch menu :)
google avatar

Samira H.

Yelp
Great food, very quick service. I highly recommend the Mexican food. Packs a lot of punch and has great flavor, lots of spice. we finished our entire portions which never happens.
google avatar

Yelp
New review but same exceptional food!!! Always so delicious and always friendly staff! Christmas Eve morning have a wonderful breakfast is a good way to end 2024! Prices are very reasonable with my scrambler with sourdough costing $15 and my husband had short stack cherry white pancakes for $8

Yelp
Great food Nice people Comfortable ambiance Difficulty a return trip! Quick service

Yelp
Great food and great coffee. Stopped here to check out the brunch scene in Madison and this place didn't disappoint. The omlette I had was pretty good and the people here are super friendly. We got our food pretty quickly. I honestly also liked the overall look and vibe of the interior of the place. If I'm in the area again I'd come back.
google avatar

Izzy R.

Yelp
i feel bad criticizing the service because they were really, really busy and the waitress seemed overwhelmed but they were so focused on getting people in and out i wasn't able to get any questions i had about the menu answered. goat cheese salad could have been more flavorful but i did enjoy it.
google avatar

Itoji K.

Yelp
I love Madison and one of the reasons is because there are many great places to eat including Marigold Kitchen. The restaurant is filled with natural light and airy. The food is great. I like food that is cooked in oil being not oily and it's a big thing for me. Sometimes eggs or potatoes come out with too much oil and don't taste ingredients at all. This place is different. This place is somewhere between a nice cafe and a casual yet a good restaurant . The offerings are contemporary without being too pretentious. I know this joint is well loved and I love it too. Be sure to hit this place when you are in town.
google avatar

Sabra B.

Yelp
One of the friendliest, most sunshine-filled brunch places in Madison! The service there is always immaculate. The food is cooked to perfection. While the line outside looks long, you will get seated fast (especially if you're a smaller group).
google avatar

Megan S.

Yelp
Three grain tempeh bowl is amazing. it's vegan, it's flavorful, it's perfect. The lattes are perfect too. Wish I had a Marigold Kitchen by me in in Tennessee!
google avatar

Willow O.

Yelp
Super cute cafe! The food was good but not super seasoned or anything special. I appreciate that they have a vegan sausage. We ordered a pastry and it was dry :/ The lavender matcha was a 10/10! Overall, would come back and maybe just try something else
google avatar

Julia M.

Yelp
This place was so yummy and had great vibes! My boyfriend and I both had omelettes which were generously filled and very tasty. We got a generous portions of toast, potatoes, and greens on the side, and that they let you have all 3!
google avatar

Yukie X.

Yelp
I understand why there's usually a long line for this cute local breakfast place. The staff inside were extremely friendly and the food did not disappoint either. It was anything crazy mind blowing but still a brunch spot I would definitely revisit. As someone who likes their drinks a little bit on the sweet side, the oat horchata was the perfect mixture between the cinnamon's sweetness and the creaminess from the oat milk. The red pepper in the burrito was roasted to its sweetness and everything else inside was cooked just right. My The only down side to my meal was the side marinaded cabbages were a little too vinegary and drenched for my taste.
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
Worth the wait! Saw the line so we assumed it had to be good... and it didn't disappoint!!
google avatar

Kruthika K.

Yelp
Marigold is my favourite to go for breakfast/brunch and I've taken my family there every time they're in town. I've tried a range of breakfast items there, including their breakfast hashes, avocado toast, omelettes, and pancakes. But something I always go back to are their revolving pancakes specials. And being an Indian, I especially love their breakfast potatoes. They're savoury, well seasoned, and well fried. And the cherry on top is their exceptional drinks, especially the coolers. They have an open and bright space, but the seating is a little close contact with other patrons. I recommend going there early as they do not take reservations. The line and wait can get really long depending on the day and time.
google avatar

Isabella K.

Yelp
Marigold Kitchen was absolutely delicious. I had the French toast, which came with fresh berries, maple syrup, slivered almonds, and a berry purée. I rarely finish my food, but I devoured this in minutes. Service was quick and the employees were super friendly. You order and pay at the counter and then grab a seat wherever it's available. The restaurant itself was busy (we went on a Saturday morning around 10 a.m.), but not overwhelmingly so. It was bright and airy and comfortable. I knocked off one star because the price was a little high (about $14 for my French toast), but the quality is still great. I will definitely be returning to Marigold Kitchen in the future.

Nick B.

Yelp
Great breakfast, friendly helpful staff, great menu . Sat outside with our dog. So many tasty season creative options to try. Definitely a place to stop
google avatar

Erin W.

Yelp
The Marigold is a one of a kind restaurant. The service was friendly and pleasant. Food was delicious and unique. Very near the Capitol and the lake. Very enjoyable.
google avatar

Akshita P.

Yelp
Marigold Kitchen has super yum eats and great friendly service! A creative menu with so many appealing options. Pictured are the french toast and goat cheese mushroom omelette. I'm not a big fan of the potatoes, kinda under seasoned for my taste. Coffee here is the opposite though, always a little too sweet for my liking. Overall would recommend!
google avatar

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
Visiting Madison and tried this place--so yummy! We had the pancakes (sooo good) and the breakfast sandwich which was one of the best I've ever had. Definitely coming back!
google avatar

Donavan R.

Yelp
This place is so cute and cozy! The pillows in the booths make you feel at home and the staff is so nice. I do wish they had a slightly larger menu but everything I had was delicious! They had a special butterscotch crunch pancake on special today and i liked them better than their regular buttermilk! Definitely recommend you get breakfast here if you're ever in Madison!

Joe S.

Yelp
Was told this is the best place in town for pancakes. Maybe so but nothing extraordinary here. Put together well and they are not from a box mix. That's a plus. Maple syrup , strawberries and whipped butter. Latte was delicious and well balanced. The macaroon was very good. Overall I enjoyed the meal and would eat here again. The ordering at the register and paying/ taking a number is not my style. Feels like a rush while ordering food. The menu boards had very small lettering and hard to read. Still a good place to eat. Different types of food and great service also
google avatar

Deborah F.

Yelp
If I free time downtown for breakfast, this is the sweetest spot! Great food, service & ambience - sometimes you may have to wait a bit but big deal
google avatar

Stacy B.

Yelp
Came here with 2 of my co-workers after a local recommend and it did not disappoint. Nice and cozy inside, with a friendly and cheerful staff. The menu options were vast they had something for everyone! I had the Chili poached eggs which came with toast and a side of salad greens. The flavors of the poached eggs and the chili and cheeses was out of this word they paired together amazingly. The toast was perfect to dip in the egg yolk with the saltiness of the prosciutto. 10/10 would recommend to anyone visiting!
google avatar

Albert S.

Yelp
Oh yeah baby Best breakfast in Madison. Gotta come here and check it out with your new freshman.
google avatar

Dana C.

Yelp
One of my favorite places for breakfast! Really good fresh & local foods. Cute little spot downtown Madison. Parking is limited, seating is limited & it's counter service. Usually busy & you need to stand in line outside. Once you get the meal it is well worth the wait!
google avatar

Kelli P.

Yelp
Late Post: We were here in October 2023. It was a beautiful sunny Thursday morning, we walked from our adult son's downtown apartment. Marigold Kitchen was lovely. We decided as a party of six to sit outside since the weather was being so cooperative. I did enjoy the indoor decor, lots of art and well lit. It was moderately busy for our brunch. Everyone in our party raved at their food! I had the Ham & Gruyere omelette - outstanding. Sister recommends the Roasted Sweet Potato, Kale & Pesto Hash. Coffee was fantastic, too. We can't wait to go again on our next visit to Madison.
google avatar

Allison H.

Yelp
Came by with a friend for weekend brunch around noon, and the line was even longer when we left! It does move pretty quickly though. When you walk in, you order at the counter (ps they have some sweets at the counter if you're looking for a quick grab and go treat), and then they give you a number and seat you at a table. The tables themselves are very close together, so I wouldn't recommend coming with a group larger than 4. Overall, the food was filling and tasted good, and the service we received was friendly!
google avatar

Yelp
Super close to our hotel downtown in Madison WI. I was worried we'd have to leave bc our estimated seating time was 20 minutes and I was hungry. Luckily we got seated 10 minutes later. They gave us a menu outside and we paid at the counter before sitting at our table. Water is self-served toward the back of the restaurant. I got the Guajillo braised chicken sandwich, with came w a cabbage slaw and ciabatta. So much flavor yum. Bonus they give you slaw on the side too. Vegan options! My date got the tofu scramble and a a juiced eternal life that he claimed was so good he wanted to buy. Overall worth the price, and it's a nice ambiance and efficient experience, even if there is a wait! Sorry I have no pics of the food - couldn't wait to eat :)

Yelp
Delicious! Love the upbeat and cozy vibe. The zucchini and goat cheese omelette was delicious as was the egg scrambler. My friends also enjoyed the buckwheat pancakes, burrito, corn beef sandwich and poached eggs.
