Exactly what I was looking for in Cajun food. I arrived during Sunday brunch and ordered the fried catfish and cheese grits and also added a bowl of seafood gumbo. They treat you like family here and there is indoor or outdoor seating available. I will put this on my list of places to revisit when I am passing through town. 5 stars!!!

When we originally showed up, it was only breakfast food being served. We politely declined and told them that we would come back. Of course they were thinking we wouldn’t come back, but we came back for lunch. We ordered fried catfish platter and I got a half shrimp Poboy and the other half seafood gumbo they were still waiting on the rice for the gumbo so they asked me did I want to get a different type of rice? I told them no I would wait and since it was such a long wait time they not only brought us been gays, but also gave us a gift card for the long of the weight The atmosphere the environment. Amazing they make you feel so down to earth and at home. We will definitely be back

Since we wanted to try so many things on the menu we decided to order 2 combos so we each could choose 2 different meals. We tried the Curried Fried Catfish, Fried Shrimp Remoulade Poboy, Crawfish E'touffee, Seafood Gumbo, Bread Pudding, and Beignets. Everything was delicious. Our favorite was the Curried Fried Catfish and the Gumbo. The Gambinos French Bread used to make the Poboy was soft and fresh. The portions were good size, we had leftovers and made sure to get to go boxes so we could take with us to enjoy the rest later. Another thing that makes this restaurant a 5 star experience is the staff!! So many restaurants nowadays lack in customer service but not this one. The team members at this restaurant go above and beyond and you feel like they genuinely want to help you. They chat with you like you're old friends. The owner, chef/manager, and Elise (host) were absolutely wonderful. I'm posting pictures with this review, sorry some pictures were taken after we started eating. 😋

The food and vibes at Marilynn’s Place are amazing. I highly recommend going on Wing Wednesday. I had the honey Cajun wings and pepper jack Mac and cheese special. When I say it was GOOD, good, I mean it. This place feels like going over your favorite cousin’s house, the one that can COOK and makes you feel right at home. I also recommend the beignets and coffee!

Google
An Authentic Taste of Cajun Country in Shreveport! As a proud Lafayette native, I can tell you I know a thing or two about real Cajun food. For the past 11 years, I've stuck to cooking at home because I couldn't find a place that did it right in these parts. That all changed when I finally stopped at Marilyn's Place. Don't let this little hidden gem fool you; you could drive by it a dozen times without realizing what a treasure it is. But trust me, it is absolutely worth checking out. If you're craving genuine Cajun cooking, this is the closest you'll get without me inviting you over for a home-cooked meal—or making the drive down to Acadiana!

Google
Ok, my favorite cajun in Shreveport!I went with the "pick 2" for options. The etoufee didn't have the spice that was at gumbo 2 geaux BUT overall had way better consistency, meat, structure than the other place, I just added a little hot sauce.. delicious. The jambalaya was a little "thicker" than I make it but it was fantastic! Something I could eat every day. Nice staff, cool little drink/ cocktail/beer bar inside. If you haven't had the Reasonably Corrupt, the dark beer hits on all cylinders and goes great with the jambalaya!

Skip the hotel and casino restaurants and go here! Service was super friendly and the place has a good vibe. The food was delicious. We will definitely be back.

We kicked off my dad’s vacation with a visit to Marilynn’s Place, and it couldn’t have been a better choice. This place captures the heart and soul of Louisiana cuisine. Soffia loved her kids’ shrimp platter—crispy, fresh, and perfectly portioned. Jake’s chicken jambalaya was bold and flavorful, packed with just the right amount of spice. Sam devoured the red beans & rice, a true Southern comfort classic. My dad went straight for the seafood gumbo, which was rich, hearty, and loaded with flavor. As for me, the crawfish étouffée was absolutely incredible—creamy, savory, and full of that authentic Louisiana taste. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the service made us feel right at home. If you’re looking for a spot that serves real Louisiana flavor with heart, Marilynn’s Place is it. We’ll definitely be back!

Yelp
A-Mazing. Sunday- is a different brunch menu, just a heads up!! The fried shrimp poboy remoulade sauce is my go to. It's huge and delicious! Seriously. We also got a large potato salad- enough for 2 with some left over. Hubby got the beans/rice. Bread pudding was fabulous - and we took half of that home too! Easy ordering and it was nice- so we sat outside. Definitely casual! We stop on our way through Shreveport .....YUMMY!! Great story of his Mom & Dad too!

Yelp
You want GREAT CREOLE/CAJUN???? YOU WANT A SUPER COOL PLACE WITH AMBIANCE??? Look no further. Where ever you are, make your way over to Marilynn's Place. The food is on point. I wanted to try so many dishes but landed on their jambalaya. WHOA! This was a GREAT meal! These come in two sizes, big and BIGGER! More than enough to fill up the hungriest diner. Don't forget to cop a cup of their joe and order some beignets, which are as good as they can come. Lastly, the owner is friendly and gracious, spending time to get to know the patrons! As Arnold says" I'll be back"

Yelp

Yelp
Service mentioned out of iced tea-- no gloves for chefs and dicks last resort feeling from chefs (After I purchased tea) Well just paid for tea we are glad we are out Crawfish etoufee soogy, 23 dollar shrimp po boy Over slathered in sauce (more sauce than shrimp) Red beans and rice saved a star but won't be coming back Better places to spend 50 on lunch Bread not crisp nor warm

Yelp
My friend & I went here for a late lunch on Saturday. I got a combo with gumbo and crawfish etoufee, she got a combo with gumbo & a brisket sandwich cuz they ran out of the burger she wanted, and because they were out of the pepperjack Mac n cheese, we split a large order of sweet potato fries. The food was very good, and the staff were friendly. I'll definitely be back to try the pork with pineapple salsa & their Mac n cheese.

Yelp
We stopped in on a quick trip to Shreveport. The food options were great. The service was perfect. I can't think of the gentleman's name that was so kind and helpful. The establishment is an older gas station. At first I was a little hesitant with the seating. The evening was cool for the garage styled restaurant, but after the food came out and having dinner I told my husband it was cozy. The children said they forgot it was cold. So, I sat that so don't be hesitant if the weather is hot or cold, I think they manage it well. I had gumbo. My husband a Po boy sandwich that didn't disappoint. My son a kids hamburger. We are from Texas so he wasn't used to the bread. My daughter a sampler of some sort. The sauce house sauce they offered was great To end the dinner off we had dessert the Beignets were soooo delicious!!
google avatar

Yelp
I cannot recommend this place enough. I came here with family from out of town. The gumbo is so phenomenal and I'm still dreaming about it. The service is as friendly as you can get! This place feels straight out of a novel. Yummy! The po boy also was excellent.

Yelp
It's truly laid back I enjoy the owner is on the scene Kudos for AYCD but more drink options are needed. I don't care for vodka and definitely don't want a bloody Mary but some tequila based would be nice. Either way, they pour heavy which I appreciate given this is Louisiana but I would recommend for drinks and a new experience. What works: 1) my folks said "that's good coffee" 2) good value for group dining. 3) all you can drink (AYCD) 4) their cordial and cheery service from the kitchen, back of house, to the front of house (cashier and drink maker). Most things appeared to be heat and eat. I should've asked for more cream cheese. I didn't. Smoked salmon was flavorful. My dining party had shrimp and grits but no mention it'd be a red sauce or "Creole style." I might be the one Southener that doesn't eat grits but I know plenty that won't touch seafood in red sauce so yeah that disclaimer is needed. I can't recommend those chicken and waffles because it's just prepacked strips and frozen waffles but the Belgian style with the ball of sugar in them. Cleaning is needed in between parties. I enjoyed the staff and service more than the food. They played great music, old school R&B, THEY had good jokes and answered all our questions without attitude but it was super laid back they let me grab my food when I saw it came up. I will return to try the regular menu as it's brunch only on Sunday.

Yelp
Come here for amazing Cajun food! Seriously, this is now at the top of my lists for when visiting the Shreveport area. We stopped by for lunch and I got the combo with shrimp remoulade only and seafood gumbo. Wow was this a lot of food! The shrimp poboy alone was enough to fill me up for lunch. The fried shrimp were breaded and crispy even though covered in the sauce. The gumbo was so flavorful and you could see all of the chunks of seafood in it. The owner is very hands on which is great. (He also has a sense of humor). His employees were wonderful and nice. I said my name once and the manager remembered and called me by name after that. Can't wait to be back to the area to try more off the menu!

Yelp
Man I was really excited to try this place given all the top rated reviews but was so disappointed. Our food was horrible. The seafood gumbo was level 10 salty. I couldn't even finish it. My wife's dish was so dry and just lacked flavor. The kids burger seemed like it had been cooked hours previously and sat under a warmer. The beef was so chewy. We didn't finish the food. Really disappointing experience.

Yelp
Run here, don't walk. I've never had such a giant sandwich. The food coma was worth it. The boudin egg rolls are perfection and the gumbo was comfort food at its finest. This place has a nice little bar and plenty of patio and other seating space. Elise was super friendly and helpful. Some of the friendliest service I've ever had. People like her are the ones that gain lifetime customers. I'll be back any time I pass through Shreveport.

Yelp
This a hole in the wall sorta place with great food and huge portions. We shared a Poboy and some fries and had leftovers.
google avatar

Benetta P.

Yelp
Staff was very friendly and welcoming. They made me feel valued. The shrimp poboy was stuffed with perfectly fried shrimp. The spicy sauce is flavorful and not too hot. The crawfish ettoufee is on point. The beinets dessert was fresh and hot and finger licking good.

Matt S.

Yelp
Marilynn's is the place!! Gumbo is on point! Po-boys were huge! Everything had great flavor! If you're in the area, this place won't disappoint.

Yelp
Delicious! I love the vibes here and it's a real tribute to Louisiana culture. Being from Louisiana, I really felt at home and taken care of by the staff and the food. The sweet tea and beignets were also amazing!

Yelp
We are from out of town and this place was recommended by everyone we spoke with. But I can tell you what, out of towner or not, this place is legit!!! We drove up and were looking for the restaurant. We saw cars but were uncertain since we were in the parking lot of what appeared to be an old gas station repair shop. But sure enough this was the place and has been converted into a no frills open kitchen restaurant. Order at the register and grab a seat in the old repair bays will roll up doors. Behind the register is the kitchen and to the left is a small bar if you want alcohol. The service is very friendly and welcoming. We ordered seafood gumbo, jambalaya, shrimp creole, brisket po boy, boudin balls and a bread pudding for after our meal!! Hands down THE BEST GUMBO we have had in Shreveport. And it doesnt take a local to know a great Gumbo! Filled with seafood and the flavor was layered with flavor. First you taste the creamy dark rough and them the creole seafood flavors. All 3 of us agreed the best Gumbo we have had here. The Boudin balls were something new for us. The remoulade sauce was delicious!! Like a Cajun aoli sauce. Nice heat w cajun flavor. The jambalaya was good, lots a sausage mixed in. Rice cooked perfectly. The shrimp creole was new to me. Loaded with plump shrimp in a spicy creole tomato based sauce! Very well cooked and tasty. After we finished, they brought us an order of beignets which were on the house along w our bread pudding. What a very nice surprise. The beignets were delicious. Pillowy pockets of nicely cooked dough covered in powder sugar!! But the bread pudding omg!! Housemade and unlike any Ive had. Moist, chocolate chips, a sweet syrup w a hint of coffee poured over the warm bread pudding and powder sugar sprinkled on top! Pure sweet goodness. I dipped my beignet in the syrupy goodness from the bread pudding!!! Heaven!!! The chef and his crew know what they are doing and take pride in what they serve!! The chef was so humble when we thanked him for the great food! This is an unassuming place but is high end on taste!!! Marilynns Place is MUST for everyone! Locals and out of towners!!!

Yelp
I was there for lunch in ordered fried catfish platter. How is it that the fries are bigger than the pieces of catfish? I counted 7 pieces, about 2 inches thick and 5 inches long. I was charged $20 for it! The platter came with, Steak fries, 2 oily hushpuppies, coleslaw in a 3 inch wide by 2 inch condiment container. It was my second time there and had the same experience as the first. You are better off going to the deli across the way, on the left hand side of Lowders bakery. Yes, staff very friendly. But it is the South!
google avatar

Eileen S.

Yelp
Love the air conditioned patio that's dog friendly! The star dish for us was the crawfish po boy that came with a generous potion of crawfish and they gave us remoulade sauce on the side. The portions were huge and I couldn't finish both my étouffée and gumbo
google avatar

Yelp
Nice old Converted gas station in to a Outside Restaurant! Owner is really Cool cajun!! Beignets was So fresh and amazing! Old Town with new Town swag! Must see Must eat there
google avatar

Catherine I.

Yelp
I personally had a great time here. Initially, I was a little weirded out by the taste of the ice and water. However, the alcoholic drinks are good and the funky water taste isn't the restaurant that's Shreveport water in general in case you were wondering. Apparently, they have an excessive amount of algae in their water supply, so the city water tastes like a fish bowl. City says it's harmless, but the people don't drink the water around here
google avatar

Stormy V.

Yelp
Food 10/10. Service 10/10. Just good classic food with that sought after Louisiana taste!! Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Lisa F.

Yelp
Service was excellent! The people are so polite! The buck stops there. I ordered shrimp étouffée and got a mess of tomato paste or sauce, possibly with shrimp in it and absolutely no seasoning and it wasn't even cooked. I ordered this to go if I had eaten at the restaurant I would've sent it back seriously it was like opening a bottle of ketchup. Perhaps it wasn't even tomato paste or sauce. Perhaps it was ketchup. It was awful.
google avatar

Krystal A.

Yelp
Gave this place a try today! Ordered 2 combo plates to 2 4 different entrees. My favorite was the red beans and rice! Owner's real nice and treated us to beignets on the house for our first time.
google avatar

Kimberly R.

Yelp
Came for Sunday Brunch. Honestly the food was pretty mid. I was disappointed. I had the shrimp and grits-it was heavy on the tomatoes-very few shrimp. He had the Mexican breakfast which I tasted. The flavor was not it. The people were really kind though. Vibes were nice. Drinks were great, and I'd come back just for the beignets-they were incredible.

Jeanna R.

Yelp
The food had to have been left from several days prior, nothing was fresh We took 2 bites & it was HORRIBLE. Left $35.00 cost sitting on the table I DON'T & WOULDN'T SEND ANYONE HERE ..... well unless an enemy

Javier G.

Yelp
Worst food experience I have ever had. The gumbo was way to salty and then I ordered the hamburger, I thought it was a safe Oder but to my surprise it was the worst burger I have ever had, the meat was terrible and the French bread was old. The only good thing about the burger was the bacon and also the water was good.
google avatar

Brittney D.

Yelp
Deep sigh* Welp, I took stars bc of the feels. I had to. When I travel, eating is an even bigger deal for me. I love food first, but more than that, going out to local eateries can tell you so much about a community- what people are wearing, how staff greet locals, how they greet (or don't) out of towners, conversations that are being had over meals, those being had over drinks-- all important intel. I'm sad to say, I didn't feel good here. This isn't the platform to go into race relations but what I will say is this: kindness or lack thereof, has an effect on appetite and taste. On to the food: beignets were fair. Shrimp and grits were meh. Mexican bfast- honey didn't like.
google avatar

Jason C.

Yelp
Neat place with a great atmosphere and outside seating. We waited over an hour for our food. When it came some plates were cold. All of the fries were cold. The fried catfish smelled like they had sat out for a day before being overcooked. The Mac and cheese was really good.
google avatar

Steve H.

Yelp
Excellent food, great service. The ambience was low key and conducive to conversation.
google avatar

Abby L.

Yelp
Was there on a Tuesday from out of town-they're now closed on Mondays and Tuesdays someone please update the hours
google avatar

Michael J.

Yelp
Love Sunday brunch here on the patio with my Labrador the food and drinks are excellent and they truly care about your experience
google avatar

Alison K.

Yelp
The food was delicious, and the atmosphere is very welcoming and friendly. Not to mention that they offer a full cocktail selection, which is always a lovely benefit for those that are drinking. I had the salmon, brunch platter, and the smoked salmon was smoked to perfection. My husband had the biscuits and gravy with the Boudin gravy, and that was delicious as well.

Angela K.

Yelp
Passing through Shreveport and found this place based on yelp reviews. It did not disappoint!! MP's had delicious Cajun. The crawfish etouffe was the best I've had and the boudin balls were amazing. We ordered the combo platter to sample more of the entree's and it was a good Call.
google avatar

Cliff H.

Yelp
They had corned beef hash topped with a fried egg for Saint Patrick's Day...excellent!!! It also came with a biscuit which was marvelous too. We topped it off with fresh hot beignets. We will certainly be back next time we are in Shreveport.
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Everyone is so inviting and welcoming. Always on point. They give military and first responder discounts. Be aware that serving sizes are huge with most items .
google avatar

Melissa O.

Yelp
We were only in Shreveport for one night and I wanted something very Louisiana for dinner. This definitely fit the bill. Catfish platter (that catfish was WHOA) with house made sauces and beautifully seasoned fries. Po boy with fried shrimp tossed in remoulade - served on the amazing Gambino's French bread- my husband and I have never had a real po boy until this one. WOOOOW. Also got some sausage red beans and rice because of course, right? Buuuut I have to say... I make mine better (sorry!). I wish I had tried their etoufee or at least something I don't make at home. Still. A pretty top notch meal with very friendly service and an awesome atmosphere.

D'Lynn C.

Yelp
Great food! Quaint atmosphere!! Very large portions. Definitely going back after seeing several dishes on others table I want to try. My 6" poboy was loaded!!

Susan L.

Yelp
If you're in the area and like Cajun food, this is a must try spot! Everything was great and the beignets... they were SO good. The owner was really personable and nice too and the inside was cozy and welcoming. I love how unique the restaurant interior is, I think it was a gas station previously? I wish I lived closer because I would definitely be a regular here.
google avatar

Imani H.

Yelp
The people are amazing! Therefore everything else is pure joy there! The customer service is top tier on the phone and in person. The food is always amazing! It's a feeling of home and comfort.
google avatar

Chris H.

Yelp
I went in here to get my very first Beignet . When they found out it was my first time they gave me an extra one and added some cookie butter. They were so polite, sweet and caring. They had the best service and the best beignet! Thank you. I will be coming back again!
google avatar

Sheshanna P.

Yelp
I haven't had many beignets, and I sure haven't had them at Cafe Du Monde. But these are the best beignets that I have ever had and I still think about them sometimes.
google avatar

Paul V.

Yelp
Consistently very good. O had the shrimp poboy and I was impressed with the amount of shrimp. It was really good. It was a nice night and the doors were all open. Extremely relaxing atmosphere. Feels like a neighborhood hang out.
google avatar

Tina S.

Yelp
So so so good! We are visiting from out of town, and someone recommended this place. Hands down best food and very kind and friendly staff. Get the beignets for sure. Lots of layers and flaky.
google avatar

Annette B.

Yelp
This is a small but interesting place. You order your food at the counter and pick up when they call your name. The bar is separate and serves most drinks but specifically vodka based drinks and mimosas. You can buy bottomless drinks which are great value. All the food coming out of the kitchen looked amazing. My bf's food was a little disappointing because it was literally a plate of boudin sausage but my shrimp and grits were amazing. The issue with his meal was more about expectations than that there was anything wrong with the food.
google avatar

Elmaria M.

Yelp
I'd like to preface my comment by saying that I believe in giving and receiving high quality customer service on a personal as well as professional level. My husband and I came to try the beignets and they were good. We drove to Shreveport for our wedding anniversary weekend and decided to try Marylin's. The beignets had good reviews. The young lady at the cash register was nice and her customer service was very good. Not good customer service: I inquired about sampling their brisket and when she asked the cook, he came up to the front and his response was off putting almost to the point of being rude, no greeting, barely gave eye contact. Although cooks are not normally in the front, they as well as any staff member is responsible for providing good customer service. Not good customer service: A male employee constantly stared at my husband the moment he saw us which was about 5 minutes after we arrived. No greeting, no smile or anything; perplexing to say the least. Constantly staring at a customer without saying anything is poor customer service.

Yelp
Great food, amazing service, even better people. We were on our way to Texas for our uncle's funeral. He used to live in Shreveport, so we decided to stop in town for dinner. The po'boys were delicious and the beignets, light and fluffy. The coffee was soothing and reviving for such a long roadtrip. The staff even brewed us a personal pot of coffee when they found about our journey to Texas to help us stay awake. Their kindness was such a welcome gesture during a tough week for us. Stop in at Marilynn's Place for great food and excellent hospitality.
