Hawaiian-Korean fusion with tacos, bowls & great skyline views
"When the sun is finally out of PTO (so, during spring and summer), Marination Ma Kai is a paradise of patio chairs, waterfront skyline views, and excellent Hawaiian food that pairs well with the warm weather. The good news is that even when it’s raining buckets, the tacos, kimchi fried rice, fish and chips, and spam macaroni salad taste just as great. Then, you can vow to come back when the thermometer hits 60 for the full Marination experience." - aimee rizzo
"Based on their pork katsu alone, it’s easy to conclude that Marination Ma Kai knows their way around deep-fried stuff. The panko coating has a great crunch, and their hand-cut fries are perfectly dark while still being soft in the middle. Their basket comes with a choice of miso ginger tartar or kimchi tartar, but you’re really going to want to double down on their creamy sesame “nunya” sauce instead." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley, gabe guarente
"This Hawaiian institution’s seasonal shave ice is truly for the coconut enthusiasts out there. Not only can you moisten up the frozen stuff with coconut syrup, but there’s also the option to add coconut ice cream smashed between two mounds of snow. Along with a tang-forward secondary flavor like passionfruit or guava, the dessert oozes tropical pizzazz—and is a perfect treat alongside a round of spam sliders." - gabe guarente, kayla sager riley, aimee rizzo
"This West Seattle spot is our patio go-to re: hosting out-of-towners, facilitating cross-social-group ice-breaking. For starters, you can get a glimpse of the skyline, water, beach, and mountains at the same time. Pretty cute. The mustard-cerulean color combination helps, too. And an excellent $12.50 fried fish sandwich seals the deal." - aimee rizzo
"This Marination location on the West Seattle peninsula features a grand view of the city skyline and Elliott Bay. Among the popular Korean-Hawaiian fare are Spam sliders, kalua pork tacos, and kimchi fried rice. The spacious outdoor seating area is conveniently close to the pedestrian water taxi, which runs directly from downtown to Alki." - Meg van Huygen
