"There’s a good chance you’ve driven by Marino Restaurant a million times without noticing it - it’s been in a bungalow-style building in a residential part of Hollywood since the ’80s. Right now, they’re offering all kinds of prepped foods for you to make at home, from fresh pasta starting at $10/lb, to oxtail and bacon amatriciana sauce. And if you’re with a family (or have some space in your freezer), they’ve got affordable 12-serving trays of classic Italian-American comfort food like eggplant parm ($65) and lasagna ($90). Call for pick-up or free local Hancock Park delivery, delivery also available on most apps. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

"This longstanding red sauce joint by the family behind Il Grano is a power lunch favorite. The vibe isn’t quite old school, nor is it anywhere near modern. Think of it as a perfect picture of the late ‘90s, early 2000s Italian-American establishment." - Matthew Kang

I am Italian and I felt right at home. Everything was 10/10. I brought my family from Italy to Marino and they all felt like they were still in Italy, from the service to the food. I will definitely be back and I highly recommend the lasagna, it melts in your mouth. Mario was a true original Italian gentleman and guided me throughout my stay. I recommend to everyone. IT’S A LEGIT ITALIAN EXPERIENCE.

Google
We had the most wonderful experience at Marino in Los Angeles with my friends. The service was impeccable, and the food was unbelievably delicious. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and friendly. Thank you so much for such a memorable dining experience! The Italian food here is the best we’ve ever tried. The ravioli, with its generous amount of truffle, was absolutely phenomenal. Highly recommend this place!

Google
The most amazing experience, service, and food I’ve ever had in Los Angeles. Sal and Mario Marino are absolute PLEASURE. My friend and I ordered 4 different dishes and all of them were truly extraordinary. We’ve both been to Italy and this is what it is to have true Italian pasta in America. We ate the pumpkin & sage tortellini, zucchini blossoms, cassonetti pasta, and the truffle gnocchi. All 4 were amazing… so decadent and you can tell that they use fresh ingredients. Sal, the chef came out to speak to us and Mario got us a reservation so quickly. We’re coming back. It was truly a great experience.

Google
I ordered the Orechiette with Sausage. Coming from Marino, I thought it’d be amazing, but it totally lacked flavor. It technically had sausage, but so little — not enough or in such a way to add any flavor to the dish. If I ate it with my eyes closed I would’ve sworn it was vegan. Expect the experience of eating pasta with slightly spicy vegan marinara and INTENSELY bitter, unsalted, soggy broccolini that takes over the dish. I ordered pick up and ate it right away. I actually went back for cheese because it tasted so bland but found even the quality of the parm was disappointing (and also bland). I tried it alone, and also with the pasta, and the parmesan was way too mild to do any balancing of the extreme bitterness. I didn’t enjoy the dish at all and would not recommend

Lasagna - melts in your mouth Calamari - hot, fresh, and crispy Corn agnolotti - incredible, creamy, fragrant Lemon cream pie - a cake not a pie but very very good Tiramisu - very good but kind of oddly shaped/small!

I showed up without a reservation for a quick bite. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. I've had a mushroom cauliflower salad. It was very light and fresh, and served quickly. Two gin&tonics went well with it. On a side note, I loved their glassware!

Google
Fantastic food last night at @marino.losangeles. The grilled calamari salad was one of the best I've had. The squid was seasoned extremely well and was presented ornately. I decided to split the black truffle gnocchi with my date for an appetizer instead of as an entrée so we could both try it and still sample other menu items for our main courses. The gnocchi was easily my favorite course of the night. When it comes to the table, the server grated a generous portion of the black truffle table side filling the air with the glorious aroma of truffle. The gnocchi itself had the most incredible texture and magnificent creamy sauce. What can say, it was phenomenal. For my main course I had the NY strip and was pleased with the crispy, flavorful sear on the steak. I can't say as much for the branzino. It was average at best and outshined by every other dish. Finally, the ricotta cheesecake had a delectable flavor, with a hint of citrus. The texture was was absolutely mouthwatering. Great job last night Marino.

We always have delightful and remarkable meals here! Refined yet convivial, designed yet familial. Everything & everyone are just right. Sal is ever present, fun & talented. The staff is warmly attentive & amicable hosts. Love it!

Yelp
We had a lovely dinner at Marino's. Staff was friendly and efficient. We were comfortable in the black booth seats, viewing a Christmas tree and relaxing as the hum of conversations blended around us. The food was delicious. The Calamari Fritti was so tender and fresh. Simply done to perfection. Winter Persimmons with Burrata was a welcoming change from tomatoes. The Branzino does not disappoint when looking for lighter fare. My husband ordered the Chicken Parmigiana and all of us were surprised by how good it tasted. It was one, if not the best, we have ever had. Our friend had the Black Cod and it looked stunning on the plate. For dessert we shared the tiramisu which was another classic done well. So glad we went to Marino's for dinner!

Buzz P.

Yelp
OMG this was such an amazing dinner! Persimmon Burrata, Black Cod, Pappardelle Lamb, NY Steak, Black Truffle Pizza - and wine to match. This was an exceptional experience. Incredible food and service from Mario himself. I can't wait for my next dinner here. One of the best Italian dinners Ive had in Los Angeles. Don't ask about the price lol. It's worth it! 100% recommended.

Brian P.

Yelp
Mario and Sal will make you feel like family. Marino is delicious, inviting, and very special.

Yelp
My good friend and neighbor took us to dinner here recently. He said he's been coming here for over 30 years or so. I wasn't sure what to expect, but studied the menu and my friend instead said he lets the Chef just make anything he wishes and courses it out for us. I was really happy with this set-up so I didn't have to do any thinking when it came to ordering. I have to say that I was really impressed with the food. My favorite by far was the mushroom and cauliflower course. But everything else that followed was also so delicious, except one tiny tiny comment is that the main protein course was just a tad too salty for us. I was stuffed by the end and really happy I had the opportunity to check out this longstanding restaurant.

Mark G.

Yelp
Service was wonderful Very good selection Food was terrific Nice ambiance Italian at its finest.

Isaac C.

Yelp
Amazing food. Attentive and charismatic host/staff. Ambiance feels like you've arrived at home with family. Highly recommend for really any occasion, but anniversaries are especially nice here. My partner and I make sure to come at least once a month. Cheers to Mario and Sal! Can't wait for our next visit.

Lorraine S.

Yelp
Went to "Tomato Wednesday " at this LA classic restaurant for lunch. They have a special menu built around the fresh tomatoes harvested from their own garden. It was amazing! Started with the gazpacho and caprese salad. (almost too pretty to eat) Then had the homemade sausage and peppers and spaghetti marinara. Friends had other pasta dishes. Topped it off with their tomato panecotta. All of it delicious. Service was attentive but not overly so and the chef (I believe one of the owners) came out to say hello. Tomato Wednesdays are only during August and September so better hurry, only one Wednesday left.,.. The regular menu looks great too and based on lunch, I'm sure everything will be perfectly prepared and delicious

Teri K.

Yelp
Our first time here and what a lovely meal!!! Everything was delicious and the pacing was not rushed. We had the vegetarian tasting menu and each dish was incredible! Wait staff and owners are so professional!!! Can't wait to return!!

Shayna E.

Yelp
Love love love! I've been coming for a solid decade and they never disappoint. Their truffle dishes are always amazing and their tasting menus are always a satisfying mix. This is a great place for a special occasion or comfortable dinner - Marino is always perfect.

Yelp
My wife and I love Marino's and we try to visit whenever we are in Los Angeles. We park our car with the valet as the no parking signs are confusing regarding which locations are legal to park We both started with salads both were excellent but I preferred my wife's radicchio salad more than the Marino salad primarily due to the texture of the greens We got a half order of the oxtail red sauce on pasta.. Just delicious and seasoned well and took me back to Italy! Just wonderful Also had clams vongele My wife ordered the lobster fettuccine which she enjoyed.. We had the strawberry rhubarb crostata like dessert with gelato.. A perfect dessert for us Service throughout the meal for bottled water alcohol lemon drop martini and food courses piatti was attentive Chatted with Mario and wished him much success and happiness..

Chris D.

Yelp
It's been a while since I've been to Marino but they remodeled the dining room and the Ambiance is great. Mario was Frank Sinatras private Chef. Mario has since passed on but his sons have taken over operations. The Marino salad was fantastic. My main course was the Filetto Sinatra. A nice cut Angus steak with Mushrooms in a Wine sauce. It melted in my mouth! The steak was cooked med rare like I asked for. The service was also excellent. Definitely worth the money for a nice Dinner.

Brian L.

Yelp
I wanted to love this restaurant experience more bc it is an icon with 40+ years of existence and an amazing history hosting such luminaries as Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack. But while much of our dining experience was great there were a few lapses that need to be addressed. Keep in mind that we are extremely critical foodies who have lived in Italy for nearly a year fine dining our way through the country. The chef is definitely Italian and staying true to his roots so many props for that! Our first course from the DineLA menu was carpaccio of roast beef and wild Japanese yellowtail and white peaches. Both dishes were exceptional and I would rate then 8 1/2+ for flavor and presentation. Our next course Gnocchi with black truffles and lobster pasta with a fair amount of lobster pieces. The gnocchi was wonderful and delicate accented by the black truffles. The pasta in a tomato/basil sauce was very good but the lobster had zero flavor. Not sure why but that aspect of the dish was disappointing. I give the gnocchi a solid 9 and the pasta a solid 8 as the pasta/sauce was quite good. The last entrees were grilled sea bream and lamb Milanese. The sea bream was very straight forward pan fried and fresh...but nothing exceptional: a 7. The lamb was a big disappointment: breaded (as expected) but cooked until it was overdone. However the sauce that accompanied it made it much easier to enjoy. I give this dish a 5 and don't think they should even bother having it on the menu. I'm sure there are many patrons who would miss this dish but there are so many better preparations for lamb. The desserts were fine but nothing exceptional although I will say their sourcing of fresh fruits and vegetables throughout the evening was commendable. One of the desserts was a medley of fresh melons that came with a cute card explaining what the melons were. The creamy lemon pie was also nice but nothing extraordinary. The service was spot on all the time and very pleasant: never rushing us but always concerned about our experience, Even the Maitre'd came over several times to chime in and exchange pleasantries. I noticed the table next to us was dining family style and their selection of dishes looked quite interesting. I definitely want to come back and experience more of their cuisine because I don't think I'm giving them enough opportunity to prove themselves. I mean, how many restaurants in LA can you say have existed and thrived for 40+ years??? They really do deserve another chance! WE WILL BE BACK!

Yelp
This restaurant is a prime example of exquisite Italian cuisine with EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE ! From the charming owner Mario to all the servers - they do everything humanly possible to provide the best diner experience. Mauro was our phenomenal waiter who attended to us with excellent service and hospitality. The food is beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious . It makes me happy that there are still restaurants like this in Los Angeles when so many have closed---what a delight it is to dine at Marino's!

Yelp
Great service, warm atmosphere, fantastic food. Ravioli was incredible and tiramisu outstanding

Yelp
Ambiance: bright and modern Italian restaurant, very clean inside and stylish and artistic decorations Service: very friendly and knowledgeable about their speciality, provided useful suggestion Food: seasonal specials and periodically changed menu Bread and Butter - **** complimentary sour dough, recommend LASAGNA VERDE dad's signature 60yr recipe - ***** spinach pasta, Bolognese, bechamel, one of the best lasagna I've ever had, so soft and creamy, melting in your mouth, highly recommend FILETTO SINATRA - **** filet mignon, peppers, mushrooms, red wine, market vegetables, juicy meat and layers of flavors, recommend Torta di Ricotta - *** Dad's famous ricotta cheese cake, signature dessert, soft and fluffy texture Price: moderate portions and decent prices, expect about $45+ per person just for food

Yelp
They put the FINE in fine dining let me tell you!! Not only was my party treated like family from the moment we walked in but the service, OOO WEEE, was phenomenal! This restaurant is attractive with a rich, clean and intimate ambiance perfect for celebrating, a romantic evening or just a bomb meal. Our server Luis was attentive, knowledgeable and very friendly. I was actually taken aback by his service considering most servers won't even tell you their name these days... let alone tour you through the menu, highlighting specials and opening up about family on a very human level and never letting a single need unmet. Made us feel very comfortable! The food was a definitely cooked by a top level chef with years of knowledge because daaaaamn! Flavor bomb after flavor bomb after flavor bomb! The rotisserie chicken was so incredible juicy and tender with a blast of roasted garlic that left me sucking the bones. The butter pasta was so tasty that my daughter ate it all up (and she's PICKY). The Ceasar salad was super fresh and had a dressing that tasted like the anchovies were just fished out of the sea. The bolognese pasta had a level of flavor profiles that no other pasta has ever had. Also, the appetizers were slap yourself silly delicious!! We had the fig one with fresh cheese and an eggplant one with cheese and red sauce. I'm actually drooling right now thinking about it. Overall, I would highly recommend this place if you want the best experience and food an Italian restaurant can offer. Yes, it is pricey for sure BUT in this case you definitely get what you pay for and I'm happy I did.

Lisa F.

Yelp
I haven't been to Marino for many years but I'm happy to report that it's as good as it ever was. It was a pal's birthday so we shared a Carsar salad and the stuffed zucchini blossoms for an appetizer-- they were as light as angel wings, only stuffed with delicious ricotta cheese. We had the impossible task of deciding what to order so another friend and I split the Orecchiette Sausage which includes rapini and the Sinatra Filetto steak medium rare. Both entrees were delicious but that steak was so perfectly cooked and seasoned, it wasn't easy to share! Sal came by the table to check in several times, it *almost* made us not miss Ciro. Marino is a wonderful, intimate space, the food is fabulous decades after its opening. What are you waiting for-- make a reservation!

Elaine T.

Yelp
Marino has been in Hollywood since the late 1950's and I had the pleasure of eating at chef Sal Marino's Il Grano many times before he came back to his family restaurant. I chose this restaurant for people in the restaurant business who came out from NYC because the cuisine was rooted in classic old school techniques, using the freshest Californian ingredients. We started with a bottle of Barolo (#4505) and the large Marino salad, with chopped mixed greens, eggplant caponata, salame, cheese, and legumes for $19 to share. The night we went, there was a special halibut crudo with beautiful radishes. Zucchini blossoms filled with ricotta and marjoram for $17 was devoured as soon as it got to the table. Classic linguini vongole with manila clams for $21 was wonderfully aromatic with sliced garlic. It's been too many years since I've eaten my favorite lasagna. It was like meeting an old friend with a comforting long heartfelt hug. It's hard to pick my favorite dish, but branzino, Mediterranean striped bass,  for $38 is definitely in the top 3, delicately and exquisitely baked, served with vegetables that are equally simply and expertly cooked.

Chris M.

Yelp
I was really impressed with the service, staff friendliness and the wonderful pasta. The espresso martini was the best I've ever had. Marino is a must try.

Caitlyn C.

Yelp
Made a reservation online but had to wait around half an hour to be seated. Once our table was ready we were sent to a separate room that didn't even have any customers in it when we entered, so my boyfriend and I were a little confused about the wait. The food and service after being seated was great. The appetizers were paced for us to enjoy one by one, which I appreciated. And a man who I believe is one of the owners visited our table multiple times to crack jokes and check up on our dining experience. Ambience is definitely more on the classy side. My boyfriend and I felt a little awkward since most of the others dining were dressed nicely, and we're a young couple who showed up in jeans and a T-shirt.

Jonathan H.

Yelp
I've been coming here for decades. I remember when the current owners' mom and dad owned the place. The restaurant is every bit as it was then and Mario and check w each guest to make sure that they enjoy their meals. I would highly recommend eating

Kimberly M.

Yelp
We have been coming here for over 15 years and have had a pleasant experience every time. The consistency in quality and service is unlike and rare of establishments in LA. The care that goes into providing a superior experience is above and beyond. Every time we are in LA we try our best to have dinner here. Cauliflower Mushroom is something that I've never seen on any other menu. It's a favorite of mine. Branzino is also a favorite. Squash blossoms. Linguine with Clams. I could go on. I love the intimate environment, as well. Mario is always coming by to check on you with a warm smile. The servers are on top of clearing and keeping your beverage dialed in. I always look forward to dinner here.

Mary N.

Yelp
Delicious food, excellent service and a great wine list! I wanted to try everything on the menu!

Ann P.

Yelp
This place never disappoints. My friend ordered a scrumptious salad. I started with the mouth watering eggplant parm. It came in a clay pot & every bite melted in my mouth. after that a water shaved fresh truffles on her had kunoichi and parmesan cheese on my pasta. Everything was delicious. The place felt intimate & decadent despite a full house. I will be back soon!

tim a.

Yelp
From my first visit to my second, this place kind of turned into a caricature of itself. The first time, I was charmed by the old school vibe (Rat Pack, Dan Tana's). The food was quite good and our waiter was exceptionally professional. The host was extremely welcoming, and I found the whole experience very continental. On our second visit about 6 mos later, the host seemed overwhelmed and irritable, and leaned on well-practiced one-liners to make himself appear congenial. Our waiter was humorless and disinterested, and the food was merely passable. I also noticed that the lighting is dreadful and the decor needs a fresh eye. Basically, the more you look, the more you see. And not in a good way.

Jefery L.

Yelp
I have been going to Marino since high school. In those days I did not know Chef Sal or Head Of The House (Sal's brother) Mario. Now I do know them very well and they are two of my favorite restaurant owners...anywhere. We have established an annual Holiday dinner there -- and it is nothing short of fantastic for the lucky group of founders. This was founded by and organized by my friend MB, and he really kicks out the jam. With Sal and Mario, it is sorta like you are dining at their home -- albeit a 3 michelin star home experience. What I mean is it is fucking fun. And we have a great somm (AW) who comes in just for us. Attached are the menu from last night and some photos of the wines.... I look forward to this dinner every year.

Swaf S.

Yelp
Just incredible. Went with family tonight and every dish was delicious and presented with unique, gorgeous plating. The service is as genuine as can be, a family restaurant with Michelin Star quality cuisine and hospitality. Tuna tartar cannoli special with the gin and honey cocktail featured in this museum quality photo by me

Yelp
Mario, the front of the house, was great. kind, funny, caring, and truly service oriented. luckily, the food matches up nicely to the front of the house at marino as well. marino is just west of providence on melrose. it has a pleasant, well lit, classy outdoor dining area with heat lamps. well behaved small dogs seem welcome. tables are well spaced. we started with the calamari - well breaded, light, and just as tasty as it should be. it might be a safe starter, but it was really good. we took 2 pastas and 2 mains for the bulk of our meal. the linguine alle vongole was solid, but not sure i'd come back for this dish. would substitute one of their many other pastas next time. but if you're in the mood for it, you won't be disappointed. the penne al arrabbiata with rabbit as the protein was delicious, and you could tell it was rabbit but it really complemented the tomato sauce and penne perfectly. would get this again. also enjoyed the new york steak, which i didn't really expect too much from, but it was cooked perfectly medium rare and the meat was very tender. glad we ordred it. the side arugula provided a nice complement to the juicy meat. finally, as a a throw in, we ordered the halibut. it was good, but maybe something we weren't looking for that night. if you are a pescatarian or fish lover, order it. a very solidly crafted dish. my vodka martinis were on point, delicious, and perfectly mixed. overall, the ambience, food, and service were great. if you want to feel like a part of an italian family restaurant with good ambience, come. i'll be back. :)

Leila H.

Yelp
Came here on a whim It was busy and bustling and had a great cozy & old Hollywood ambience. The co-owner shook our hand as we entered and greeted us warmly and seated us We didn't love our table. But that's what you get for walking in! I think I would book ahead and ask for a booth next time. They are elegant and cozy. I really enjoyed that the clientele was mixed in ages and lots of more mature couples. No "scene" here. It did get loud around 7.30pm, but everyone was having great conversation, it was just the nice hum of happy diners. We had Zucchini Flowers for appetizer, for my palate they were a little too cheesy and fried and not delicate enough. I prefer to get more of the raw flower flavor. My partner enjoyed them more than I. I had the ravioli and it was wonderful. Fresh, light with a beautiful sauce. My partner had the lobster fettuccine and he preferred mine. I think with more time to explore drinks and the menu a little more we would enjoy many of the beautiful homemade dishes. I'm giving them 5 stars because of the service and environment as well as the Ravioli. I would be excited to try the spaghetti vongole and halibut on a return trip. Certainly worth a visit for a great meal.

Rona L.

Yelp
Real Italian place, wonderful and welcoming people. The food and service were excellent.

Yagmur E.

Yelp
I've been here for 3 to 4 times and honest opinion; I'm not sure if it worths the bill. If you want to give it a try the squash blossoms and the tiramisu is a must have! Like the squash blossoms was the best thing I've eaten there so far. I got the creamy truffle gnocchi and not the best pasta I've tried. Overall it was not a bad experience, it's quite alright but compared to pricing I would expect a better pasta experience or a service for sure. The waiter was kind of rushing us, that was not cool.

Kathy K.

Yelp
Two brothers own and operate this Italian restaurant. I was so surprised at the quality of service and food. This place is a neighborhood gem ! I'm so thankful to have stumbled upon this place. Their 60year or lasagna recipe is to die for. 10/10 would recommend

Julie J.

Yelp
We had lunch at Marino yesterday and it was the best! The bruschetta has something extra, the albacore was melt in your mouth, the lobster dishes were just the right amount of rich. Hazelnut ice cream beyond. This rivals any restaurant in Italy. Marino is a local treasure. Famous for all the right reasons. Mario was the host and Sal was the chef. They were so friendly we got to meet them both. Amazing, special but not too expensive. And good acoustics-you can hear your friends talking and enjoy the music. Really great!

Yesenia B.

Yelp
Excellent!!' Tastes authentic! Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious! Service was excellent and presentation was superb

Laura G.

Yelp
I've eaten here before, it's a favorite (I can't believe I haven't yelped it). This place has history, it's family owned and run and the food & service is spectacular. Brothers Sal and Mario are an unbeatable team. Mario in the front of the house, he's welcoming, warm and attentive. Sal is passionate, energetic and accommodating to the vegetarians and those with dietary restrictions - he's in the kitchen. You may remember Sal from Il Grano in Santa Monica. We celebrated a friends milestone birthday (during COVID) - we were sat outside and we arrange to let Sal do his thing. He knocked it out of the park. We did a tasting (10 courses in all) - every single dish was not only delicious but beautifully presented. The "pasta" like dish they do that is shaved mushrooms with Pistaccio is a MUST try - one of the best meals I've had.

Christine F.

Yelp
The waiters and kitchen team seem capable enough, but management is a verbal harassment lawsuit waiting to happen. Their to-go system is particularly rife with negligence. I witnessed packaged pasta orders growing cold on the counter, while the delivery driver was spoken to condescendingly and eventually yelled at by a manager (potentially an owner) for wanting permission to take her customer's package and be on her way. I spotted another review that mentions a manager losing his temper over the phone, so this appears to be a pattern. With so many restaurants to choose from in L.A., why settle for one whose management treats people this way?

Kat K.

Yelp
Called today to ask a question for a large order for my family & the person who picked up the phone said "you ask too many questions." WTF? So RUDE! Never goin there & you lost future customers. Will inform friends & families. CIAO!

Loren J.

Yelp
Great service and delicious food!!! The best cappuccino I've tried. I will definitely go back there

Jc S.

Yelp
TERRIBLE If I could give this a negative star I would. It was such a bad experience, tables were empty yet the waiters couldn't get their you know what straight. Terrible.

Sebastian K.

Yelp
Food and Service is incredible. Sal certainly finds the best pairing for exceptional wines. This is truly one of Los Angeles Italian restaurant gems. My favorite thing to do is just let the Chef create their own specialties with the freshest ingredients they sourced for the day. Must try!

Skylar T.

Yelp
The last time I ate at Marino's was outside and had a wonderful meal. Think it was during Covid. Last night we stopped in, on a whim, and I am not sure why we have stayed away for so long. Mario, the best.Thank you taking my coat and folding it like an origami gift and seating us in a corner booth. The waiter. I have no name but he was on top of the service chain and good looks to boot, and did not disappoint. Wait staff, so attentive. The food. Divine. Branzino perfectly cooked with a lovely color display of veggies. The salmon lightly cooked and not floating in sauce. Well, then there is the bread and our expertly crafted Negrone's served in vintage glasses. The remodeled dining room - well there is something elegant, old Hollywood about it. So much more to say but it is so worth having a memorable dining experience.

Yelp
Really good food and the restaurant is very cute. We were here for a group event and the private room was perfect. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
This restaurant had the most amazing Italian food I have tasted in a long while. But this review is about the passive racism that I encountered which frequenting this space. As the CAO of a Charter school system, I decided to treat my team to a nice dinner. I work with the staff that had countless tech issues to book a reservation for a part of 12. Once this was squared away, we all arrived and where seated the lead at the restaurant came and was looking for the person that booked the reservation. He called out my name but immediately look at the non-person of color male on the team. Once he identify that I was the individual he was looking for her came and immediately asked " how did you find us?... what made you pick us?" Looking around at the other patrons in the restaurant it is evident that they had a crowd that was primarily Caucasian. This was reflective not only in the patrons but also in the staff that would easily be identified in this race category based numerous factors. With that I mentioned that I did a google search and identified a restaurant that met my criteria based on reviews, for pairs and intimacy. He soon left and returned later to lap everyone's napkins. Which was a nice gesture but also came with a sly comment. " oh i know this is not something that you can experience in the district". I reminded them that we are a charter management organization. Not to mention we all have advanced degrees and are committed to our crafts and the advancement of free education for all student. I was really taken aback by the experience which over showed the great food.

Yelp
Thanks for a delightful lunch today. The persimmons and burrata laced with arugula and a hint of olive oil was a great starter before the pappardelle either lamb ragu. I'll be back!

Yelp
If the vermillion (fish) is on the menu, order it! The cauliflower pasta is not to be missed. We met old friends there for lunch and it was the best meal we had during our week in LA. Granted, our friend has been eating here for years, and the service was attentive and fun. Still, the food!!! We've eaten a lot of good Italian food over the years - here and in Italy. The food at Marino ranks right up there. The sauces and light and full of flavor. The portions are generous without being overwhelming (hello most mediocre red sauce joints). The leisurely pace of a Friday afternoon lunch, filled with satisfying food, left us transported to Italy. We could have stayed and continued into dinner.....

Yelp
Very much enjoyed the food here, ambiance is nice, definitely upper class feels and service is minus a star, it wasn't bad but it wasn't great. Let's stick to the positives - the food and drinks! I like the half bottle of wine option, we went for thr Barbara D'Asti and it was a good not too heavy red wine to start the meal. With my meal i had a glass of Côte de Rhones and it was so yummy! A touch of sweetness and felt a little cold, not room temperature which I prefer. My dish was the parpadelle bolognese and I loved it. Somehow the bowl trapped the heat cause I felt like every time I'd dig down and scoop up there'd be steam coming out, amazing...I loved it, enjoyed the dish more because it didn't ever cool off. Felt the meat and sauce was a good ratio to the wide noodles. The flavor was so enjoyable and dipping bread into this sauce was divine. I really liked this dish and would get it again. I also had enough to take home, score! Lol My companion got the truffle gnocchi, it was delicious. It is a heavy dish, as our waiter informed and she confirmed but that's not a reason not to get it, just what to expect with gnocchi and creamy truffle. The dark truffle is scraped over the dish like they do with fresh cheese and then the smaller pieces just melted in, mmm. The sauce in this dish is a total winner, buttery and again, perfect for dipping the bread into. And yes! They give bread! Extra star just for that lol. An Italian restaurant staple. We thought it wasn't going to happen here cause it came out randomly like ten minutes later but I was still very happy and they were totally cool with refilling the basket ;) We ended with shots of limoncello, one of my favorites and these were perfection. Served chilled in a mini flute . The perfect way to end this meal :)

Yelp
We spend a lot on New Year's Eve dinners but this year at Marino's was one was unforgettable. From the impeccable service to the outstandingly tasty food, you understand why Marino's has been around for so long. And long may it last! The love that Chef Sal put into every single course, you could taste in every single delicious bite of food that was tasty yet innovative. I don't come from LA but you can be sure that I will return if just for a meal here! Grazie!
