Marion Barry Avenue Market - Review - Anacostia - Washington DC - The Infatuation

"Anacostia’s Marion Barry Avenue Market is more than a grocery and café. Aiming to help end food deserts in Ward 8, the market is backed by Dreaming Out Loud and José Andrés’ Longer Tables Fund. It stocks sliding-scale produce from local growers and serves a soul food-inspired menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner." - Omnia Saed

A José Andrés-Backed Cafe Named for Marion Barry Opens in Ward 8 | Eater DC

"Bringing aisles of fresh produce and fast-casual soul food to Anacostia, this new market and cafe honors the late D.C. Mayor Marion Barry and debuts September 27. Spearheaded by urban food justice nonprofit Dreaming Out Loud and partly backed by José Andrés’ Longer Tables Fund, it connects an underserved Ward 8 community that had only one major grocery store until now with affordable options. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served daily for pickup and on-site dining across indoor communal tables and a garden patio, and a demo kitchen hosts classes around cooking and nutrition. The market is stocked with locally grown fruit and vegetables sold at a sliding-scale price with voucher-friendly options." - Tierney Plumb

WATCH TO THE END!! Good Folks it is IMPORTANT for me to bring you this spot!! A farmers market that brings fresh produce from local black farms. A market, & cafe on the south side, & so much more!! Good eats, good energy, GET HERE!! . Where I am: @doldc & Black Farm CSA . Location Reviewed: Farmer’s Market- 301 49th St., N.E. Washington D.C. Market/Cafe-1303 Marion Barry Ave., S.E. Washington D.C. . Items Reviewed: STAMP!! At the Farmer’s Market ($16) I purchased some fresh carrots, thyme, carrots, peppers, potatoes, spinach, strawberry jam, all spice, & apple butter!! You can’t beat farm to table…STAMP!! From Marion Barry Market & Cafe *Not only is it a market, & cafe, they have classes for couples cooking, a patio out back for events!* STAMP!! Their Fried Chicken Dinner ($15.99 fried cut chicken breast, seasonal cabbage, & mac n cheese). The fried chicken breast was well seasoned, & crisp!! The cabbage was fresh, & flavorful!! The Mac was good…DELICIOUS. STAMP!! Their Chicken n Sweet Potato Waffles ($14.99 a sweet potato waffle, with syrup, & fried chicken tenders). You tasted the sweet potato in those waffles, the chicken strips were a tad bit different from the fried chicken breast…LIKE THAT!! STAMP!! Their Smoky Kale Salad ($8.99 with kale, carrots, tomatoes, ranch, & sweet potato chips). Crunchy, full of flavor, & tasty!! STAMP!! Their Mushroom Po’Boy ($14.99 breaded fried mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, a vegan remoulade, on a toasted brioche roll, & fries). Surprisingly tasty!! Crunchy, & “meaty” mushrooms with tasty toppings even though the bread was a tad bit cajun!! . Customer Service: On Point at both spots!! . Parking: Decent at the Farmers Market, Rough on the street at the cafe, but DECENT in the parking lot!! . Recommendations: Get that fresh produce, & try the fried chicken at the cafe!! . Accessibility: It’s is wheelchair friendly, & it’s differently abled persons friendly ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️=STAMP ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️➕=LIKE THAT ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️=DELICIOUS ⭐️⭐️⭐️=DECENT ⭐️⭐️=PASS ⭐️=NAH #Bigschlimsreviews

To help bridge the gap of grocery stores in Ward 8, Dreaming Out Loud opened a beautiful market and cafe along Marion Barry Avenue SE that doesn't only honor the "Mayor for Life" but provides neighbors with quality fresh produce, non-perishable goods, and more. Walk inside and you'll see a new, clean store in one room with well-organized shelves. They sell onions, lettuce, salads, ice cream, cookie dough, mac and cheese, and something for everyone. Off to the side is a cafe that sells food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

Good Vibes, delicious food at the cafe, friendly and personable customer service, responsive to feedback, not taking SNAP at the moment but offering $10 off CSA shares to SNAP beneficiaries on the DOL website. Looking forward to their consistency and growth. I’ve shopped there several times already-the collard greens were fresh and I made a really delicious pot. I’ve had the mushroom poboy (really good seasoning and crunch, remoulade) and their breakfast sandwich. The breakfast sandwich was standard delicious bread though.

Friendly staff, clean and organized throughout. Fresh produce available along with pantry staples. Good selection of cafe foods as well. Looking forward to visiting again.

Friendly team, beautiful space and pricing that is fair for the quality of goods provided. So often small neighborhood markets have to raise their prices far above comparable larger stores, but not here. Great spot to pick up all of the necessities for a picnic at Anacostia park but they also have everything you need to cook nutritious meals. They have minimally processed products, a lot are organic or made with quality oils (seed-free). There is also a cafe with a small menu! I hope they receive all of the support!

They have a good selection of produce and refrigerated items and had excellent customer service. The cafe also had breakfast and lunch options. I liked the mushroom poboy, mac and cheese and salmon salad. I didn't care for the fried chicken due to the way it was breaded.

A beautiful market in the area with fresh fruits and vegetables and other essentials is just what the community needed! They also have a full service cafe. The mac & cheese was delicious and the staff so welcoming!
